The experiment comes as an increasing number of people are benefiting from takeout and delivery services amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. 10 eateries in multi-building complex COREDO Muromachi and COREDO Nihonbashi make the lunch boxes. People working in nearby offices can choose and pay for their food through a smartphone app. The lunches will then be delivered per building. Organizers say about 30-40 orders are made on average per day. Purchasers and carriers can avoid face-to-face contact since the meal will be placed on a designated shelf. The trial will run until March 31.
