Today in 1901, U.S. Steel was incorporated in New Jersey and, almost exactly 123 years later, its sale to Japan’s Nippon Steel is nearly finalized for $15 billion. For some, it’s a sign of the times. For others, it’s a sad coda to a storied history that will likely be a political football during this election year.
