Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources confirmed Thursday a young bull moose who had been seen making its way across the Spirit Lake area drowned in East Lake Okoboji after venturing out onto the lake's thinly frozen surface. DNR officials decided the best course of action was to leave the moose alone, in hopes it would make its own way to shore. The moose was seen standing on the ice for a number of hours Wednesday and is believed to have fallen through early Thursday.
