'Unprecedented,' 'Gobsmacked', 'Unbelievable': Changes in Antarctica's sea ice could have dramatic impacts, says climate scientist Edward Doddridge

In 1898, the crew of the first scientific expedition to Antarctica aboard the RV Belgica became trapped inside sea ice around the southernmost continent, only narrowly escaping with their lives. Now, with much of the once thick ice dwindling, we sat down with polar researcher Edward Doddridge to discuss the importance of Antarctic sea ice for the planet, and what it means now that it appears to be declining.
