Now, it appears North Carolina lawmakers are hopping aboard, as they recently unveiled a bill to legalize the possession and sale of weed in the state. The legislation was introduced by Dem. State representatives John Autry, Allison Dahle, Pricey Harrison, and Zack Hawkins and would legalize the possession of up to two ounces of weed, several cannabis plants, and other types of weed products for those over 21. According to The Hill, the legislation also includes regulations on lab testing of cannabis, along with the taxation of weed products. It was noted the bill also proposed certain marijuana convictions being expunged for residents in the state. The bill would also create an “Office of Social Equity,” which pushes for “full participation in the regulated cannabis industry by people from communities that have previously been disproportionately harmed by cannabis prohibition.”
