Prescott’s new arena and community centre will be named the Alaine Chartrand Arena after the two-time Canadian National Figure Skating champion.
Chartrand’s grandparents, David and Christine Chartrand, purchased the naming rights for the new rink for $500,000 to honour their granddaughter, Judi Baril, co-chair of the fundraising team, said Monday.

Alaine Chartrand, who grew up near Maitland in Augusta Township, started her skating career at Prescott’s Leo Boivin Arena when she was four years old in 2000. She learned to skate there at age three.
