Municipal dev't forums have played a key role in Uganda February 10, 2021 Written by BOGERE STEPHEN MUBINZI Uganda is urbanizing at an unprecedented rate of 5.2 per cent per annum, putting a major strain on local governments to meet the developmental needs of the urban population. While Uganda’s urbanization level is relatively low, at only 18 per cent of its population residing in cities and towns, it is one of the most rapidly urbanizing countries in Africa. The total number of people residing in urban areas is expected to quadruple from six million people at present to more than 20 million people by 2040. This is already causing various urban challenges for policymakers.
