Mira-Bhayander cops had filed an FIR on the high court’s orders MUMBAI: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Thursday transferred to the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai police a case of illegal construction of a club in Mira Road on wetlands by former BJP MLA and former mayor of Mira-Bhayander Narendra Mehta. On the Bombay high court's orders, the Mira Road police had last year registered an offence against Mehta and the management of Seven Eleven Club under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act and the Environment Protection Act. Activist Dheeraj Parab had filed a criminal writ petition in the high court in 2019 alleging that Mehta, the management of Seven Eleven Club and officials of the Mira-Bhayander municipal corporation had destroyed mangroves on 3.5 acres of land and built a luxurious clubhouse in violation of environmental norms. In September 2019, the division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Nitin Kamdar had directed the Mira Road police to lodged an FIR.
