Its about how you come together, how you raise those children, how you love them, how you care for them. And even if you dont have children, youre still family as a husband and husband, wifewife, man and woman. Whatever your family is. Really what were learning from the reporting in propublica in georgia, if youre a pregnant woman in a car accident, you know, you need prayer as much as you need medical care in those situation. Were learning that the republican Policy Package is deadly for women. So all the places they want to be is the most unconservative thing. They want to be in the er with pregnant women. They want to be in the Emergency Room for the ultrasound. They want to be they want to be there if you are in a blended family, and theyre going to look and see whether youre as humble as someone whos given birth. They are everywhere. Thats the america theyre creating for us. And the the challenge they now have and its coming home to nip a little bit. We see it in various areas around the country in the battleground states, but across the country where this storyline is not something americans want. And it is defining how theyre looking at this campaign. And at The End of the day, whether you are prolife woman or a prochoice woman, no matter where your stripe is, youre looking at what the country looks like for your daughter and your granddaughter. And you dont like what youre seeing right now. Thats i think where republicans and why youre seeing so many of them backstroke, why right now theyre stumbling over the ivf legislation. Trying to hold the hard line while at the same time recognizing theyre losing political ground with the american people. You guys are such coanchors. I think if you are part of the Prodemocracy Coalition who doesnt thinking about pregnant should be a fatal condition in america, youd like to see more pull away more. The fact that you have her husband on the stump, being the one addressing this, remind american men this isnt just about the women in your lives. This is also about you and your family being under attack. And the most amazing thing is that the people attesting to Kamala Harris role in their lives are Doug Emhoffs first wife, kirsten, i think she was the first to tweet and respond. This line of attack has been out there for a while. I believe that you have to go back to j. D. Vance saying women should stay in violent marriages, thats what they think of all women. That a marriage that is violent is better than a divorce. That is a position of this ticket. And then Cole And Ella in their own words, their own voice speaking at the democratic national convention. I know this about stepkids you cannot make them love you in that role. And i think that is a dimension that i think theyre leaning into, and they lean into constantly. And Vice President harris is an Uppity Black who doesnt know her place and needs to be humble. I put it, again, within the context of them leaning in to racial Aversion And Aggrievement politics, and this is absolutely a dog whistle, historical Dog Wisle when youre talking whistle when youre talking about blacks not being humble and knowing their place. A crazy piece of reporting has just dropped, and its led to calls for North Carolina<\/a> Lieutenant Governor<\/a> Mark Robinson<\/a> to drop out of the race. Before the story even broke, people have known about it all day. And now we have it. We know what it says. The reporting is from cnn. It has not at this point been independently verified by Nbc News<\/a>. It says that Robinson Made Dozens<\/a> of very disturbing comments on a Porn Site<\/a> between 2008 and 2012 before he entered politics. The comments include robinson, the current Lieutenant Governor<\/a>, proclaiming that he is, quote, A Black Nazi<\/a>, and saying he, quote, wishes they would bring slavery back, i would buy a few, end quote. Cnn reports, quote, the comments were made under a User Name<\/a> that cnn was able to identify as robinsons by matching a litany of biographical details in a shared email address. Many of robinsons comments were gratuitously sexual and lewd in nature. He reportedly describes himself as a, quote, perv, and describes Peep Being<\/a> on women in public gym showers. Now even ahead of the Story Breaking<\/a>, he should be robust denial of the story and responded this afternoon ahead of it by posting this video. Let me reassure you, the things that you will see in those story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson<\/a>. You know my words. You know my character, and you know that i have been completely transparent in this race and before. Clarence thomas once said he was the victim of hightech lynching. Well, it looks like Mark Robinson<\/a> is, too, by a man who refuses to stand on Stage And Debate<\/a> me about the real issues that face you. Instead, they want to focus on salacious tabloid lies. But not being partisan here, but once upon a time, people okay by Donald Trump<\/a>, they would not have had a chance in heck of of being top of Anyones Ticket<\/a> in the republican party or the democratic party. And now all the sudden you have these people who are extreatmentists and outside of streakists and outside of our Value Set<\/a> and say crazy things about women and attack minorities and undermine our values. Now they have mainstream in Donald Trump<\/a>s republican party. Its been hectic the last week. You know, this is a community that has faced a lot of challenges for years and years. And you know, the Haitian Americans<\/a> here have been a part of that community for, you know, the last five years, and you know, theyve been creating businesses, theyve been working jobs, theyve been going to school, theyve, you know, theyve been part of the community. So really right now things are just tense. Theres a sense of anxiety in the air. There continue to be Bomb Threat<\/a>s every day. Were going on six or seven days in a row. You know, like you said earlier, Governor Dewine<\/a> and mayor rue, resources are stretched thin. The ohio State Troopers<\/a> have been called into the city to kind of help keep the schools secure. But you know, when i was on tuesday sitting in the Parking Lot<\/a> of one of the schools, there were parents running into the schools to pick up their kids after they heard about a new rumor of a threat on facebook. So Everyone<\/a>s just really on edge. And yeah, theres a lot of uncertainty about whats going to come next. Do people feel do they understand why theyre in the middle of the president ial race with 50 days to go . Do they understand that the lie that people like you, people have done the work to debunk the lie that nobody that follows the truth believes that anyones Labrador Retriever<\/a> is at risk . Do they has it shattered their feeling that theyre welcome in this country . I think it depends on the person. Ive been able to speak with a lot of haitian american folks over the last week, but you know, ive been reporting on this issue since 2020. Its not even an issue. Ive been reporting on the reality that Haitian Americans<\/a> are moving to our area. And you know, kind of what theyre dealing with and, you know, both the challenges and the successes theyve had. So there are some folks that have talked about moving back to florida. I think theres a real misconception that these people ar immigrants or illegal aliens. Theyre not. The vast majority are transplants, people that lived in florida or Long Island<\/a> and decided to move to springfield, ohio, because of a cheaper Cost Of Living<\/a> and an opportunity to start their own businesses here. So some folks are talking about moving back to places where theres a larger haitian american community. But other folks are talking about, you know, sticking it out and being resilient, and that this, too, will pass. A lot of people have started businesses, theyve started families here. So its you know, theyre in they dont want to leave. They care about this community. They care about springfield. Whats amazing, alicia, is theyre neither of those things, right . Theyre that is what Donald Trump<\/a> and j. D. Vance are calling them. And j. D. Vance knows better. He knows that whether theyre his constituents. They know he knows what Temporary Protective Status<\/a> is. But i want to take us to a moment in the debate where Donald Trump<\/a> was talking about how spreading a lie that immigrants are coming and stealing jobs and says, you know who its the worst for block americans and hispanic americans. He was trying to drive a wedge between those of us who are here with paperwork and those of us who are not. I think part of what springfield has illustrated so sadly is that once that lie is out there, it attaches to All Of Us<\/a>. To be antihaitian is to be antiblack, to be antilatino at the border is to be antilatinos at the interior of this country which theyre doubling down on by saying we want to depart 11 Million<\/a> people living on the interior of this country. So if he is trying to call to you and say dont worry, you will be protected, you will be special, you will be different because you have paperwork, they are now saying that is not true. Temporary protect onned status, j. D. Vance protected status, j. D. Vance is still calling you an illegal alien. They see no distinction between people who are here without papers and people who are. But i was also enraged because i know that a lot of it is rooted in lies against the community that has shown me a lot of love. All this activity with the bombing threats and stuff, i mean, its has a little bit of an impact on the kids. Theyre kind of scared. Whats going on now is chaotic and hectic. Everybody has a right to live in peace. And this is just disrupting our peace. And theres these people are nice people. Theyre good people. Shaq brewster, youre on the ground there for us. Reporter yeah, i think one of those conversations that our team had with parents who were dropping their kids off to elementary school, one of the Elementary Schools<\/a> that was evacuated last week because of that hoax threat, one of the parents said he didnt know how to explain a Bomb Threat<\/a> to his 6yearold. He tried to sanitize it a little bit and tried to still explain, and the 6yearold started crying to him wanting to go to school, but also just scared and fearful of going to school. Thats the word i continue to hear in the conversations ive been having with people. Folks are fearful, folks are scared about the reality. Of course its the threats that weve been talking about, the Bomb Threat<\/a>s that have targeted Elementary Schools<\/a>, high schools, campuses. Yesterday it was a Grocery Store<\/a> and a walmart. But its also the fear that something else could happen because you continue to hear this rhetoric. You continue to hear false, these debunked and nasty claims continue to be made. I spoke to the manager of a Creole Restaurant<\/a> in town. He told me people are still calling up his restaurant and saying, hey, whats the cat special today . Are you still serving that dog that im hearing about . Just hateful calls that hes dealing with. And as hes dealing with that, hes also dealing with members of his community, other immigrants fearful of their reality. Fearing that not only they can face a threat just existing in springfield, but fearing if Donald Trump<\/a> is elected and that temporary protected status, that is what is keeping them in a legal status here, A Legal Immigration Status<\/a> here in ohio, if that is revoked, what that means for them when they have purchased homes, when they have started businesses. So theres a lot of fear that youre hearing on the ground, and its fear based on very different things, but all rooted it seems from that lie. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I think when youre listening to his rallies, or listening to his remarks, oftentimes, it is trying to decipher what that blurry line is, is it intentional or actual confusion . Thats where i will cite the former administration officials that worked closely with him, from two of his former secretaries of defense, to former secretary of state, to former national security advisers to him, who have questioned Donald Trump<\/a>s judgment, and the extent to which he would respond erratically to situations. We have seen hes increasingly surrounded by an operation thats not one that necessarily pushes back and engages in a conversation about the truth and the facts, but one that has allowed him to live in sort of a distorted reality. Thats where you see Mike Pence<\/a> not backing him, not endorsing him. I think that oftentimes i think Donald Trump<\/a>, who is really his chief communications director, chief strategist, a lot of this plays out in real time in his Social Media<\/a> account. As somebody who follows him on the truth social account, he often is posting at 11 00 p. M. , 1 00 a. M. I will say im often at times awake at those hours, but oftentimes they come out in all caps, when he said Kamala Harris<\/a> should resign out of disgrace over the iran hacking incident. Again, our job as reporters is trying To Discern<\/a> exactly the line between Donald Trump<\/a> with that Social Media<\/a> post, whether he has a good understanding of the facts at play that the Department Of Justice<\/a> laid out to him to his campaign and the public, versus intentional distortion, versus actual confusion. I think that that is is for Donald Trump<\/a>, and journalists have the most difficult job trying To Discern<\/a>. Vaughn, you Do It<\/a> almost better that anybody on the beat. He found himself in rooms of the most powerful people in the maga world, by making sizable political contributions to Donald Trump<\/a>s superpac, to ron desantis, to rick scott, to jeff sessions, to a litany of people, all in furtherance of some Schemy Kind<\/a> of russian energy company. He was looking for Marijuana Licenses<\/a> to grow in various states, and ultimately, because he was the closest ukrainian to Rudy Giuliani<\/a>, he enlists him to go to ukraine and dig Up Dirt On Joe<\/a> and Hunter Biden<\/a>, because Hunter Biden<\/a> sat on the board of this very corrupt ukrainian company called bur isma, and all of that kind of starts here with lev and his partner in literal crime, Igor Being<\/a> dispatched by the president of the united states and his private Attorney Rudy Giuliani<\/a> to go on effectively an offthe books shadow Diplomacy Mission<\/a> to ukraine. There is a quote here in variety that i feel like encapsulates why the Trump Era<\/a> has been what its been, which is the effect that he has to dehumanize everybody. I never looked at the Human Being<\/a> before. I looked at Hunter Biden<\/a> as a mark, and never sat down to think about what he was going through, what the Biden Family<\/a> was going through. Parnas told the people at the screening, he wanted to apologize, saying, quote i wanted to make things right. Its sort of like, even the Lego Version<\/a> of batman, like the joker, you dont exist without me. Trump doesnt know who he is without running against a biden, but to me, trump gets his operatives to dehumanize trumps enemies. When youre in trumps operation, you must dehumanize the enemy. I feel lining that is part of the story, too. I dont know that lev parnas has shared of Hunter Biden<\/a> before Rudy Giuliani<\/a> sent him on this heist, this scheme. This really is the story of the Reality Show<\/a> foreign policy of a Reality Show<\/a> president. Thats where it begins, and what we should come to expect if theres a second trump administration, which is kind of chaos and mayhem, not just domestically but internationally. What happens here with lev parnas and Hunter Biden<\/a>, is really a remarkable thing. My understanding, im sure its Hunter Biden<\/a> will tell it himself someday, but my understanding is based on my very brief interaction with him is that the reason he did this was because, in his own program, working through his addiction, he felt that he had had to go to his family and loved ones to ask for forgiveness for the most horrible things he did and he put them through. He felt, how can i then deny this man his ability to make amends. That pass for, not just for forgiveness, but even accepting the offer, i thought showed an extraordinary amount of humanity, but a bit of hope, i think, in how people can possibly come together, no matter who wins in november, get over a really devastating hump that i think has torn apart a lot of families.
