He faces charges for second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children. Two Law Enforcement sources, however, tell Nbc News that gray bought his son an Ar15style Rifle as a gift. Its not known exactly when it was given to him, but sources say it was after police interviewed the teen last year about online threats. The teen had denied making those threats, and no arrest was made at the time. Grays son is accused of shooting and killing four people at apalachee High School on wednesday. He faces four counts of Felony Murder and is set to appear in court later this morning. So attorneys for the former president and special Counsel Jack Smith<\/a> were in Court Yesterday<\/a> for a hearing to determine how the case will proceed. Judge Tanya Chutkan<\/a> declined to set a new Trial Date<\/a> but did schedule a series of filings from both sides to assess the impact of several legal issues including the Supreme Court<\/a>s recent immunity ruling. Elsewhere on the legal front in a Surprise Move Hunter<\/a> biden pleaded guilty yesterday to all charges in the federal Tax Case<\/a> against him. The plea came just hours after Jury Selection<\/a> was supposed to begin in los angeles. The 54yearold was accused in a scheme to avoid paying at least 1. 4 million in taxes. The plea avoids a potentially embarrassing trial for the son of president Joe Biden<\/a> just months after his conviction in a separate gun case. Hunter biden issued a statement following the plea stating that his decision was meant to spare his family another painful and embarrassing criminal trial. Its important to note here, jonathan, that Sentencing Guidelines<\/a> in this type of case are typically you know, you can expect a person to get like 28 months or so. That is average for guidelines, but judges typically sentence individuals like mr. Biden to around 16 months in this type of case. So lets turn now to the other significant legal news yesterday, which was Judge Tanya Chutkan<\/a> overseeing trumps Election Interference Case<\/a>. Said the 2024 campaign not relevant to deciding the Time Line<\/a> of criminal proceedings. But it is of note some of the dates that she did set for deadlines for these filings do come before the election, meaning this case will be the headlines. Voters will be reading and seeing it before they cast their ballots. What do you make of the timing of the case here . Well, ill start by saying that the defense walked into the courthouse yesterday, jonathan, with the wind at their back. They have been incredibly successful at slowing down this case, at trying to keep it from a jury before the election day. Theyve been successful there. Their one goal yesterday, their one goal was try to prevent any new information about Donald Trump<\/a>s efforts to steal the last election from reaching voters this election. Prosecutors for they are eager to get going here. They fully understand, jonathan, that whatever Judge Tanya Chutkan<\/a> decides thats official or nonofficial act, whatever is going to be included this case, they fully expect prosecutors in this case expect it to go back to the Supreme Court<\/a> before the trial can get started. And i think what you saw, what youre referencing, what we all saw yesterday in this case was Judge Tanya Chutkan<\/a> saying no more Foot Dragging<\/a> here. She is not going to be swayed by any external pressures about any external calenders. And so what we see coming forward by September 26th<\/a> if not before is prosecutors making their argument probably with new information using Fbi Witness<\/a> interviews, perhaps Grand Jury<\/a> testimony we havent seen to further strengthen their Argument Donald Trump<\/a> was acting as a candidate and not as president here. Jonathan, i will say the one reason this is important this week is just a couple days ago we heard the president for the very first time acknowledge what we all know to be true, which is that he lost the election to Joe Biden<\/a>. And this ruling comes just as that is in the public sphere, and were going to find out more of what he did to advance the big lie, which was also a big conspiracy that included multiple players and multiple states. The muted microphone i dont think is going to have that much of an effect, but it is interesting that Donald Trump<\/a> wants a muted microphone. Kamala harris would like to have an open microphone. Shed like to Let Trump<\/a> be trump. Let trumps, you know, insults, his rambling, his interjections be heard by the audience. But i think if anybody is expecting this to be a serious or substantive debate on policy, i think theyre going to be disappointed. This will not be confused with the lincoln douglas debate. Donald Trump Isnt<\/a> interested in debating on substance. His Performance Yesterday<\/a> when he was asked how hed reduce Child Care<\/a> costs is a pretty good example of the way his mind is working these days. It is as devoid of information as it is of any sort of intellectual discipline. Its going to be a fascinating faceoff between two people who never met Each Other<\/a> and obviously despise Each Other<\/a>. I think itll come through during the debate. Theyve never met, of course, because trump skipped Bidens Inauguration<\/a> in 2021. Harris was there, of course. Youre right, to highlight his comments yesterday, that wasnt the weave. That was pure nonsense. Gibberish. We come into this debate, charlie, where, you know, polls very close. Harris slight leads but marginal tie. She has momentum in terms of the money. Her camcampaign, Democrats Rais<\/a> more than three times what trump did last month. With a cash advantage, that frees her up going forward. She doesnt have to fundraise as much and can focus on campaigning. Well, she can also do Something Else<\/a> thats very, very unusual, which is shes giving money away. Shes giving money to down ticket races, which is really rather extraordinary. Look, this race is still very, very close. Donald trump still has an advantage when it comes to the electoral college. Its going to come down, not to the popular vote nationally, but to what happens in georgia and pennsylvania and michigan and wisconsin. All of those states are really on the Razors Edge<\/a> right now. Thats the audience for the debate next week. Yeah, youre certainly right to highlight pennsylvania.
