>> the fact they like to say how much money they got from the conviction. >> that can't possibly surprise you. if you can't think that was preordained to line up those donors to manufacture a positive headline, if you don't think that's the case, i have a bridge to sell you brother. >> the second part, the obviously like to cite the numbers that work for them and they don't like to cite the numbers that don't. the polls that came out in the wake of the conviction have all been bad and they know it. they just pretend like it doesn't exist. i thought they would be pushed back and they're not even trying to touch it. there is a headline make a hold on which is 90% of republicans still pull -- support donald trump and they didn't even touch it. that is indicative of how fearful they are that the country is against him. >> 90% of republicans are not enough to win the election. is there any case the supreme court grants from his wish and steps in? >> there is not a universe where this happens. not at all. this is a unserious request. it is not the way government works at any level. the notion that the supreme court would take an interest in and then somehow nullify a verdict that was created in a state trial is unheard of. this is going nowhere fast. >> can you walk us through how it works. he is going to appeal. >> he is going to appeal at the state level. is going to try to find an issue whether it's the instructions by the judge or the gag order, something if not all things and create an appeal and try to do that before the court of appeals so he can stave off whatever sentence the judge imposes in july. >> is it safe to say, this is another loyalty test for everyone in the party, especially those that want to be considered for the he -- the vice president position. >> they are lining up to echo the language of donald trump which is saying falsely and wrongly that this was a conspiracy theory carried out by president biden and it's a rigged system. it is really interesting to see republicans talk about the rule of law and their respect for the system and for america while attacking this verdict. they are attacking the judge and thing it's his instructions are the reason it have learned. what is clear, the republican party wants to have a future. it seems as though it behooves you to get behind tromp and to continue. it is also interesting to see the president come out and say or give more and more aggressive. donald trump somebody that had snap after the election and just can't let it go. it is also the reason that he is talking conspiracy theories, including saying that vitamin democrats are trying to assassinate him when they were doing the classified documents case. in some ways it is interesting to see this. it is not surprising but interesting to see. use have president biden starting to get forceful. >> it is interesting but distressing. when you think of the life or think about the level of anger and the threats. we know one week ago, -- 's mother was swatted. how much worse is the environment going to get between now and november? you heard tromp, i don't think the people will stand for it. >> it is a real problem. the practice of how his supporters respond, not even talking about january 6, we are talking about the last 6 to 12 months of what happens when tromp even make statements about judges and jurors. all it takes is one person, one supporter, to act out in political violence and then we have a road to a very dangerous and problematic situation. he knows this. his advisors know this. they still encourage it because it makes them feel better that he can rant on social media. they know as well full well, all it takes is one person to act on that death threat. >> it shows he has ultimate loyalty from at least some americans and he can say i didn't give them direct instructions. >> his argument, i can say what i want if someone acts on it is not my fault. he knows and he is known since january 6 because we have the discussion around that. if he does something and encourages people, they will go to the capital. >> they will and today they are sitting in jail. peter baker points out if trump wins, he will have survived two impeachments, four indictments, civil judgments for sexual abuse and fraud plus a felony conviction. how can anyone believe that there would be any meaningful guardrails on donald trump this time? >> that is a valuable question. the notion of there being no guardrails is exactly why we have to get engaged right now with respect to the ones that exist within the system. who are we sending to congress? who is going to enforce the notion of checks and balances with respect to what he tries to do. we know the supreme court is not going to do it. they are essentially in his back pocket. the concern about project 2025 and all of the things we have already heard about what trump and his agenda is, going into a second term, should be an alarm to all of us. at this point, it doesn't seem that absent the legislature doing something that there will be any guardrails and it is a real concern. the judiciary has told us and shown us that they will not be the ones to hold him and check. >> while most republican senate candidates were loudly defensive of tromp, we saw their counterparts, democratic candidates more muted. they think they will be crossover voters to win. what you think of the approach? >> it is an interesting approach. it underscores the times we are living in. as you look at the poll to see that most independents believe the verdict was correct. it also tells you there are candidates that are looking at the people in that republicans that are disgruntled and say we should be able to convince them to come to our side. that means not talking about this verdict and not challenging the echo that we hear. it also tells you we are living in a time where you think of this as a jury verdict in a way that is operating in the american system that you would imagine candidates would say yes, i respect about verdict. there is the worry that speaking out against the verdict and in a way that makes people uncomfortable, that it will possibly cost people their race. it tells us it is the times we live in. really quickly you asked could it get worse? when you think about michael cohen's family and -- family being swatted, there is the idea that these jurors are out there in nervous. thinking that stormy daniels was intimidated and i want to underscore when we think about how candidates are talking about this in both parties, there are also 12 people that put their lives on the line when you think about the political violence who were brave enough to be part of the trial. i think about them when we think about where it is going. >> new topic, hunter biden's gun charges trial began today in delaware. it is about to roll tomorrow. what you expect? >> the prosecution is basing the case on circumstantial evidence. you don't have actual evidence of proving that he had actual cocaine. they haven't sent anything to a lab. what the case is based on is saying two things, you lied about the fact that you are either addicted to or using illegal drugs when you purchased the firearm. you are in possession around the time you are addicted to or using controlled substances. a lot of the cases are based on circumstantial evidence. i don't expect the political service. people showing up saying it is biden -controlled. it is not. you have a trump appointed prosecutor. it is going to be an interesting case for the government and it should be noted, even as it is a trouble point, it is not the type of case that the feds typically prosecute, absent a violent act. you usually don't see these types of cases prosecuted if someone has not done something violent. if there has been any political prosecution compared to manhattan, it is this one. >> this sounds incredibly naove. given what charles laid out, it is a trump appointed prosecutor. president biden allowed this to happen. shouldn't this put in and to the argument that trump and allies are pushing the president biden has his thumb on the justice system. if it was, he would not allow his only living son to be sitting for the trial. shouldn't this in theory and the argument? >> it is probably too late to really change the narrative. it is important because to my last point, it can ladder up into a number of issues where this can be a point where biden says you might not like every policy decision but it can be a message to right or left voters. i'm here trying to solve problems. i'm willing to work with people to the left to try and get things done. that is what i am trying to do. this other guy, only worried about himself was happy to scuttle the bipartisan issues. that is a message that is a more likely outcome. >> nikki haley has officially endorsed donald trump. immigration policies like this fun part of president biden, could he win at least some of the voters? >> he could but it boils down to framing and we know democrats aren't always great at that. joe biden needs to articulate two-week leaning republicans and independents and even we cleaning democrats that they are actually doing something. we know he doesn't understand the typography map and wants to build walls through rivers. this also helps them with the latino voters. they are very concerned and vocal about immigration. that might help him with latinos and texas and arizona. >> let's talk about numbers. let's wait, as you are both talking about buying them and who will stick with biden, i am thinking about lara trump. republicans need him. you just were calling trump a narcissistic psychopath is focused only on self-interest. on what planet does that make sense for lara trump and trump himself and allies to go after larry hogan. they need him to win? >> on a planet where the stranglehold over the party and the belief that if he gets back into the white house he can do what he wants. he is not interested in doing what joe biden is doing. project 2025 is mostly about executive orders that have varying degrees of authoritarian impulses. i don't think he is worried about the senate vote count, he is worried about dominating the party and demonstrating strength. if there is any dissent it has to be stamped out. that is where you see larry hogan defending the rule of law. that all he did is say we respect the rule. you see him getting attacked. no insurrectionist and no extremist or conspiracists was ever criticized by the rnc during the mcdaniel years. >> shouldn't controlling the senate and winning the senate be top artie?
