trucks entered gaza since the war began. even as almost causing over the border town of rafah, israeli forces struck hamas terrorist targets in gaza. we will have a live look at what's been happening on the ground in just a moment. here in the united states, we are going on three weeks with no speaker of the house. after congressman jim jordan failed to secure enough votes to grab the gavel. that throughout the day. there have been volleys of missiles coming from the israeli side into gaza as well as missiles fired from gaza into central in southern israel. hamas on a telegram post claim that they had made an offer to israel, via qatar, to release two additional civilian hostages they currently have inside of gaza. the idf, israeli leadership, they have not yet responded to those claims. they claim that they made an offer to release two more civilians who have been abducted, without any other conditions. after we saw those two american israeli hostages released yesterday, hamas put out another statement, saying that they were willing to continue releasing civilian hostages if the right security conditions were met. in the past, they have said that they would be willing to release all of the civilian hostages they currently have, if israel stops its aerial bombardment of gaza. israel has shown no signs of stopping their bombardment of gaza. in fact, in recent days, we along the gaza israel border, and told them, you've seen gaza from afar. soon, you will see it from the inside. tonight, at a press conference, a spokesperson for the israeli prime minister's office talked about that again as well, saying that they do plan to move forward with the next phases of this war. they have gotten approval to move forward with the next stages, and that will include a ground offensive. he said the majority of their efforts, they expect to be focused on northern gaza. that area that they have told civilians to evacuate from. and that they will go in with a lot of the washington post, jennifer reuben is with us. ladies, i really want to talk to you both, this is such a critical moment. yet, the greatest deliberative body in the world, and i'm using quotes, which consists of part of the house of representatives, cannot do its job. despite that, jennifer, you wrote earlier this week, president biden's response to the terrorist attack in israel, that rose to the challenge. can you break down a little bit of your op-ed for our audience? >> sure, you have this remarkable split screen, simone, just as you explained. on one hand, the president has given a address from the oval office, that was very well received. he went into a war zone, met with israelis, he helped broker the humanitarian relief that is now first going into gaza. he has cautioned the israeli government about abiding by the laws of war. on the other hand, you have a completely dysfunctional, frozen, crazy house of representatives. we should always caution, it's not the house of representatives, it's the republicans in the house of representatives. the democrats could not be more uniform, more organized, more disciplined. you cannot have the american government, which operates with a legislative and an executive branch, function when one of those branches is essentially eating its own. no matter how diligent, no matter how competent the president's, no matter what is reviews from israel are, unless the house of representatives can get its act together, we're not get a bill to supply aid, other to israel or to ukraine. little and keep the government operating. >> i mean, it's such an important point. i talked about this with yasmin last hour, the american people, they see this chaos happening in congress, they don't immediately think the republicans are the ones that are doing this. they just say congress doesn't work. i think it's a incumbent upon democrats, especially on the hill, to continue to differentiate themselves. you know, michelle, as the president has been communicating with these world leaders, he's also made it a point that, to reach out to the families of people who've been kidnapped and taken hostage, as we played the first few hostages were released yesterday, he spoke with him, the white house has a video of. that he also spoke with the family of six year old palestinian american young boy, -- who was killed in chicago. he was killed just because he was palestinian. having been in the presence of joe biden when he's had to make phone calls such as these, it is no small thing for someone when the president calls to check on you. i think it shows that who the president's matters. their character. their demeanor. it matters. during times like this, it's showing. do you think the american people fully understand how different life would be right now, michelle, if donald trump or president? >> i hope so. although, i imagine that there's some part of the population that just says, you know, the world is burning, and so we're going to blame the person in charge. certainly, this is a week in which joe biden's remarkable empathy has been very important. i think it's particularly important, because of the failures of empathy, frankly, that you see in the israeli government it's something you hear again and again, the israeli government, netanyahu's government, didn't contact families of the hostages for days and days. there's been a lot of noise coming from senior members of the -- saying that the rescue of hostages is not their first priority. their first priority is the destruction of hamas. i can't imagine how terrifying, i'm sure that some members, some family members certainly support that agenda. for some, i think it's really deeply terrifying to hear that the rescue of their family members isn't the first priority of the dominant power in the region. at the same time, i think that now biden also has to communicate, something we've heard from a number of reporters close to the white house, -- in the atlantic, an axios piece about this. biden strategy has been to embrace bibi netanyahu in public, and then try to restrain him in private. i think the american people, and particularly american muslims and arab americans, who are, at this point, just feel that the administration has been completely one-sided, need to see a little bit more of that strategy. >> jennifer, let's expand upon upon what michelle is talking about. i do think that there is maybe a generational divide within the democratic party apparatus with how younger democrats, maybe even more progressive democrats, view what has been happening in the middle east. now in the context of this since this tariff attack on october 7th, differently. then maybe the folks, older democrats, the folks of the presidents generation. on top of that, you have the fact that there are airborne american as michelle noted muslims. who are definitely do not agree with hamas and denounced a terrace attack. but they're also really concerned about the humanitarian crisis that's unfolding in the region. talk about some of the tightrope the president is talking about. do you share the concern that folks have raised. you share the concern tha>> lis really repeatedly, and i think correctly, gone out of his way to denounce antisemitism and the united states and elsewhere, and to denounce islamophobia. he has, again and again, try to make this distinction. hamas is not the palestinian people. the gazans are not the representative -- represented by hamas. they suffer because of hamas. and i think his call to the family of those tragically, tragically murdered young boy is important, that we have a human rights perspective that says every life is valuable. every life is precious. and as for the strategy, i think that this is a very sage well thought out approach. under president trump, for example, it was guilty as well as whatever they want, no holds barred, no restrictions. kind of, faith the worst instance of the netanyahu government. under president biden, he has said we are not going to do that. we're going to make sure they feel secure, that americans are with them, a life with them, but we also have to be a good friend and restrain them. he analogize, remarkably, to americas mistakes after 9/11. and i think, in the past, where presidents have tried to confront the israelis publicly, as president obama occasionally did, it really hasn't worked. because like it for a defense, if they get their spines up. and suddenly, you have the allies fighting in public. biden is committed not to do that and it is a hard line to wall. and i think he just has to repeat it over and over again, that his concern is for all innocence, and that the distinction between hamas and palestinians must be forefront in our mind. our enemy is not the civilians suffering and gaza, it is not the israelis enemy, it is hamas. >> you know, i just can't help but think about all the people that said the president is too old and someone else is pulling his strings. seeing the president over the last, week i also think it is a testament, and definitely quiet that noise in the corner that perhaps joe biden's a little bit too old for this. it seems like the relationship, the age, and the wisdom is playing to his favor thus far. that the white house. we talked about the senate. michelle, both worked the white house is doing, the huge aid package and the security package that is being sent to congress, the senate seems to be on board, ready to do something. it's all irrelevant, though, if the house and particular house republicans cannot agree on a speaker. i, mean jim jordan lost support over three floor votes. even with that republicans who ousted kevin mccarthy promising to excite punishment. is there anyone who could be a consensus candidate for republicans, and if, not worries that line for republicans to work with democrats? when is too much, too much, and they just need to go ahead and do a little bipartisanship? >> i think we're seeing the kind of trumpism that republicans have been, some republicans, been privately griping about for heroes and here is now, finally starting to devour them. there is a meme that often comes up about the littered eight doing your own face. and i think that's what we're seeing right now. we're seeing this kind of arsonist approach to governing, this extreme and -- indiscipline, the celebration, kind of, refusing to work with an ordinary roles. and now you've seen this explode the republican caucus. and not just that, but the sort of violence that trump and some of trump's allies routinely use to threaten other republicans to keep them in line. you are starting to see that really affect the ability of this body to function. i thought it was so interesting that even the 25 republicans voted against jordan publicly, many more voted against him privately. so i think there's even more to saint john than we're seeing in public. >> i want to play for you all, before we go, that leader of the democrats, hakeem jeffries. because you know, a lot of people have been trying to blend democrats for the chaos around the speaker vote, and minority leader jeffries had something to say. here is his response. >> what you say to those who blame democrats for the situation wherein, since you all voted with those eight republicans to oust mccarthy? >> the job of the house republicans is to elect a speaker who can get to 218 votes, and to sustain a speaker at 218 votes. that is the job of the majority. >> jennifer, why are folks asking democrats about the republicans, instead of asking the republicans what that will not be adult in the room, the majority party, and work and above partisan fashion to get the government back to work? >> because there is this ridiculous doubles than in washington, and which democrats are responsible for all bad things that go on and republicans have a level of expectation that is so low that people brush-off is simply, well, they are just being republicans. and it's ridiculous doubles dander. that minority leader is correct. this is entirely on republicans own doing. and i think it should be clear that if the so-called moderates, if there are moderates, wanted to do a deal, democrats have said over and over again they're willing to talk to them and make a partisan agreement. it's the republicans who refused to. >> jennifer reuben, michelle goldberg, thank you both very, very much for getting us started today. and it's a big conversation, and he all did it. thank you. we have a lot more to get to today, folks. coming up next, now the two american hostages have been released by hamas, should we expect more people to be released? and will more humanitarian aid be sent to gaza? israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's senior adviser will join me after the break to discuss just that, and how president biden's powerful show of support is >> that would be, they gave basically what they will testify to the prosecutors. i haven't seen the video, but i did many, many proffers when i was a prosecutor. you go from a to z and asked him what it. no you figure out if they're being truthful, and you know that by the evidence you. have you asked him to confirm evidence. this is not a typical cooperating agreement, like as cooperators, but that basically would not have been allowed to plead guilty if i did not agree to testify. let me just clear up one thing. mr. chesebro's attorney on this network and another network today said his clients did not complicate anyone. well, conspiracy when i. one you can't commit a conspiracy alone. it requires two more people. so when he pled guilty to conspiracy, his plea necessarily implicated his name coconspirators. john eastman, donald trump, and rudy giuliani. >> so anna, let's talk about that. because again, chesebro's attorney was on with my colleague katie fan earlier today, and that's where he met his comments. what are some of the other lawyers for these other defendants, remember, there were 19 folks initially charged in this conspiracy case. what are they saying, what are your sources telling you about the concern of these pollydale? 's because these are not low-level. folks sydney powell was at the top. she wasn't all the, masons on all the, emails as was kenneth chesebro. >> right, so i think catherine is exactly right. i've heard also, steve sago has echoed what scott grubman, can chesbrough's attorney wasn't this morning on katie phang's show. he said it is significant, you know, the r.i.c.o. charge was dismissed for example. but that's actually just not how that rico case even works. you kind of have to understand a little bit about the theory of culpability here, right? you have to show this group of remaining defendants, now it's 16 people, they have formed an enterprise. and enterprise had an objective, which was to overturn the results of the 2020 election. and in the indictment, what fani willis has done, is kind of, said, there is a series of acts and predicate crimes that went towards that objective of overturning the 2020 election. that is the breach of voting systems in coffee county. it is the fake electors scheme. it's pressure on state officials to call a special session and overturn results that way. so there is these different, kind of, building blocks of this r.i.c.o. case and chesbrough and pal or two of those building blocks. so even though they haven't played out to the r.i.c.o. charge, it's still the case that they have knowledge of penalties other aspects of the alleged conspiracy that, you know, trump has been indicted for. so it's certainly something that's not good news for him. >> so, catherine, i'm thinking about special counsel jack smith and washington d.c.. sidney powell and chesebro, they are believed to be unindicted coconspirators and the federal election case. could things have been different if jack smith would have pulled up fani willis, as i'm going to call it, and charged more individuals? it seems the information that d.a. willis and her team are being able to glean from this plea agreement is going to just bolster the case against former president trump and folks like rudy giuliani. >> i think the reason why the january 6th case is scheduled to trial on march 4th is because only one defendant was indicted, and that donald trump. so i think it was a practical decision on behalf of the special counsel for that indictment, just to charge donald trump. he can still, after the donald trump trial, charge these unindicted coconspirators have been indicted by d a willis. we don't know what conversations the officers are having, if any. if he wants them to testify, he's going to have to give him immunity or enter a plea agreement with them. but it makes practical sense to just charge donald trump if he wanted the trial to be completed before the november 2024 election. >> all right. catherine christian, anna bower, think you both very, very much. folks, the united states has been spared the possibility of speaker of the house jim jordan. and that's largely because of the strong arm tactics his allies used to bully his republican colleagues into backing him, they did not work. these tactics are undemocratic and they are an american. so does georgians lost main house republicans are finally willing to stand up to the extreme wing of the party? maybe. i think one thing is for sure, though. these lawmakers, they have made it crystal clear that they will stand up for what they want to stand up for. donald trump's endorsement of jim jordan meant nothing to these republican members. they chose to stand up, even when it meant they could lose their seat. now i am not one to demonize someone for arriving to the party late, i'm just happy you arrived. but it's now on these members of congress to keep doing that right thing. even under withering pressure. because they take an oath to support and defend the united states constitution. coming up, folks, help is on the way and gaza. but it's just a small start. so i speak with a spokesperson for the international committee of the red cross. and joining me to talk about what civilians in gaza really need to survive this humanitarian crisis. stay with us. stay with us >> the red cross is calling for a pause and flattened during the israel-hamas war, in order to help save lives. this comes as at least 20 trucks carrying vital aid cross into gaza from egypt but went off the rafah crossing. the trucks carry basic necessities, like food, water, and medicine. this is the first aid shipment to arrive and gaza. since the israeli hamas conflict started. officials warn, this delivery is barely a fraction of what needed. but icrc it's also calling for f-16 supplant lancaster and a humanitarian corridor. joining me now is jason straziuso, media team leader and spokes person for the international committee of the red cross. jason, thank you for being here. today, the u.n. secretary general called for, and let me just be really specific, they called for again, unrestricted humanitarian aid for gaza. and the red cross has also cold for the same. what can you tell us about conversations or guarding a humanitarian corridor?
