But the reality is as a legitimate and democratic i urge it to do so. Because those civilians in gaza, have walls and not an yahoo has urge for them to flee, there is nowhere for them to flee to. Israel has in effect blockaded gaza. The egyptians have a border, that is essentially for those like any border those with significant documentation that is agreed where they can go across. Is it as the idf said themselves, the exit into israel has been destroyed by hamas themselves. This is an incredibly difficult situation. It is difficult to call for restraint when a country is hurting, and as seen this sort of ongoing loss of life that it is. But this was not the Palestinian People<\/a> who did this. It was hamas, the terrorist organization. That terrorist group must be stopped. It can no longer pose the sort of threat that they clearly do posed to israel, but that is also why the International Community<\/a> has to take action and also action against iran, who are their ultimate backers. Just finally, do you fear now a broader war perhaps involving hezbollah in the north perhaps involving the west bank and other areas of israel. Do you fear that . I think we all worry about that. Weve already seen hezbollah admit that they have been firing rockets. In till the leader of hezbollah has tried to avoid conflict wherever possible. But of course, we are dealing here with terrorists. Who almost wants to be seen as the leading voice of palestinian already intervened in some ways. That is opening up the fronts. First of all tell us what has been happening to these members of your family . Yesterday morning when it comes to the awful news and, the first things he was chat with my family they. Live on a converts near the border with gaza. It took a while to get any information, we got a message from my cousin amy. Saying that they came in and burn the house, and just had this really anxious few hours waiting to get more information. Which earns that happened was, they were safe in the house around six in the morning when the rocket fire started. And around nine in the morning, they saw on their phones and Security Cameras<\/a> that they had on the house that the Hamas Terrorists<\/a> had actually entered into their house, and were trying to get into the safe room where they were. They were in there with husband , mother my aunts who is originally from here in the uk, and also amys ten day old baby. Once the fire was set to the house, the rooms filled up with smoke and they were in there for six hours. Until eventually being rescued. They held the baby up to the window, and brought him down every time a terrorist walked past. Otherwise the terror baby would not even able to breathe, and went out of survived. It sounds absolutely dreadful. How, or were they able to get out . Maybe they werent able to get out, the only thing they could do with hope and pray that they would be rescued. They were on the phone to whoever they could get a hold of, to get to the fire brigade. The fire brigade cannot get to them because they were being shot at. Eventually after nine hours and total in the room, the army got to them were able to take them out. And eventually get them treatment. Speaking to my aunt this morning, she is completely traumatized by the entire experience, as you can imagine. She was coughing out black soot for several hours, she had been hospital treated overnight. Heartbreaking image of my ten day old cousin in the hospital last night on oxygen. They are the lucky ones to survive. They are just one of many who in the situation yesterday, some people were still in horrible situations and, potentially kept hostage and so on. My aunt was just saying how traumatized she was seeing the dead bodies as the armor drove them to the hospital yesterday. Hearing the screams of her dog in the fire, burning to death. Yes she was completely shaken up, and i have never really heard her like that before. Reporter traumatized understandably, but as far as you are aware. Safe at the moment has she been able to describe to you what else is going on down there . Because we are told that there are still, gunfights going on maybe up to six places. Yes so all shes been able to tell me is that it is absolute chaos down. There are no one really knows what is happening. The army happen to get to them, but you know that is not the case for everyone. This morning when they happen to be driven out by the army, but many of their neighbors are still there. In the clubhouse of the cobots that they live. On they werent clear if there are still people active in the coutts area, and they were still very much in lock down. I think it sounds absolutely chaotic that this was happening. Did you ever believe, that an attack like this, an attack on this scale could happen . I dont think so. My cousins husband grew up in the area, they knew the dangers of the area in terms of the rocket fire and so on. But i dont think anyone ever imagined anything like this. But as i said they were in that safe room for nine hours, that room is meant to be go in there for a short time during the logins. They had no access to water, or toilet while they were in. Their cramped into this small environment. My aunt was telling me this morning that my cousin was literally had to hold the handle of the door as tight as she possibly could, just so no one could get into the room where they were. That was why they eventually set it on fire trying to flush them out that way. Good grief. Russell do you know see i think it is still early to say. The reports of many men that are still hamas operatives that are active inside israel. This cannot and while that is still the case, while there are still hostages alive in gaza as well. Morning to you sam, of course we have to talk about israel. It is dominating our agenda today. What kind of impact of whats going on there, will have on the conference . Welcome to liverpool nick, this was meant to be one of the labour party spigots to moments before a general election, widely anticipated to come at the back end of next year. But, the extraordinary tragic picture coming out of israel, do put a new context for this conference. Look, i think that the leadership of the labour party are in no doubt that the offense in the middle eats are now going to dominate our screens for the coming days. That means as a first consequence, this conference with its announcements, its feature is, its big moments are just going to come out of so much less of the publics attention. Perhaps otherwise than it would have done. There is the concern that this issue of israel and palestine and associated groups there has been a lot of effort this morning and last night amongst Senior Labor Party<\/a> members to make sure that those or strong views, are sensitive to the context of what is going. On when Chairman Corbin<\/a> was leader of course, he might have expected a more accommodating position. But to some of the factions involved here, we have a labor leader coming out out of the blocks yesterday morning. Being very clear and saying he stands with israel, in that israel has a right to defend itself. Now we will be looking around the kind of margins in this conference, to see that kind of statement has gone down. There is a sense among the leadership, to show that he is a very different leader from the one that he succeeded, and they will try needs as much of the platform as they can to get their message across, but it has become very hard indeed. And this could be the last Party Conference<\/a> big for the general election, so keir starmer telling his party did not be too giddy at what could be been on a brink of power. What is he hoping to get out of the next few days . Well, when Peter Mendelsohn<\/a> was talking with Travel Phillips<\/a> an hour ago, this is about, in his view, in his frame, in the labour party stop doing stupid things. Now the job of keir starmer at this conference, is to take the five missions that hes talked about, the mission to grow the economy and so on, and to make them a bit more real. Theyre making clear theyre going to build 1. 5 million more homes. That led to another one of the missions. This week is all about giving a little bit more detail behind the kind of broader, a loftier goals that the labour party has been talking about in the first part of this year. Bluntly, nick, this moment is about trying to excite the electorate, excite the country and unite potential supporters behind keir starmer. The partys been saying since mid august that we know people are fed up with the tories. Thats fairly evident from opinion polls. Weve got to give people a positive reason to vote for the labour party. Now this is that moment when they tried to change their perception to get the public to think that. But given all of the other noise thats going on, that job has become a little bit harder. Interesting interview with Sharon Graham<\/a> with charterer philips this morning insane the party had been too timid. Yeah, and thats actually a refrain that you hear not just from the left of the party, but Sharon Graham<\/a> represents a General Secretary<\/a> of unite, but also figures in the Shadow Cabinet<\/a> on the right of the party to. No sign of this 26yearold following the hamas attack yesterday. As news comes in on that. And in the meantime, lets take a look at whether. There were two, who i think, Hostage Situations<\/a> involving at least 50 hostages each. Reportedly one in the coutts area, just outside gaza, the other one in four key, about a dozen miles inside gaza. The israelis are reeling in shock from what is really an unimaginable nightmare, arreola horror. Something theyre not prepared, for something that never really seen coming. And they have seen the palestinians to launch a counterattack that no one saw coming. The two pillars of israeli the two things that israelis depend on most and rely on and believe. In their military and their Intelligence Agencies<\/a> have been completely taken unawares by this and caught totally by surprise. But adding to that, the palestinian enemy, hamas, seems to have transformed itself into a completely different kind of Fighting Force<\/a>. Able to launch its multipronged attack on land, sea, and air fronts. But also penetrating through the very expensive what these rallies had thought was an impregnable Security Fence<\/a> that surrounds gaza. At 29 points now, the israelis say, and through these breaches they poured hundreds if not thousands of fighters on motorbikes, on jeeps, and they went through the neighboring settlements, could blitzes our round gaza and deeper into israel. Massacring civilians, killing soldiers, taking Armored Vehicles<\/a> and also taking hostages. Whats been happening overnight is an exchange of missile fire, rocket fire. We are hearing from here about a dozen miles north of gaza have the sound of big israeli guns firing missiles into gaza. And in return, the palestinians have hit a number of sites in the towns of ashkelon and ash tour. They hit a residential complex and a Medical Center<\/a>, say these rallies. The israelis say that the Air Operation<\/a> is now underway, in retaliation for what the palestinians have done. And continue to do. And a Ground Operation<\/a> is imminent. And so, these really Prime Minister<\/a> is saying that no hiding place will be left. They will all be turned into rubble, he says. They say they need to move out of gaza war across gaza to avoid the areas the israelis will be striking with their artillery. Of course, the operation, which is expected to go on for a long time, or will be in for the long haul, is going to be deeply complicated by the fact that the palestinians have taken 150 at least hostages, it seems. Civilians and soldiers. And at the lowest of any hostage, has been in agony in the past. But normally its been an ones or twos. To lose that many hostages is something israelis have never had to go through in the past. And they are releasing videos of these hostages being taken into gaza. Videos, as yet unverified, but deeply distressing to israelis. Harrowing for anyone to watch. One jewish israeli boy being bullied and slapped around by palestinian kids, and a number of israeli families being held by the palestinians. One of an old woman. I think the fear is that the palestinians are really getting the israelis to do their worst, to launch something so disproportionate that they may draw in other actors and supporters of the palestinians around the region.
