other critical infrastructure needs. this also represents themost significant investment passenger rail in 50 years of public transit ever. here in new hampshire, that means replacing about one third of the transit vehicles. what it means is you'll be safer and you go faerp and better money. this may create up to 2 million jobs extra a year and up to 16 million jobs nationwide, good paying jobs, union jobs, jobs you can raise a family on, jobs that can't be outsourced. they can make it easier for companies to get goods to market. reduce what you're experiencing now. i just had to convince the portses of long beach and lanch to stay open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day because they're back uncontainer ships and vessels for hundreds of miles and miles and miles. that's why we don't have things on the shelves. they're making products we're buying here in the united states of america, the products that go into the products we buy. folks, we're going to lower costs for you and your family. this con gronk has passed a bill so we can turn on the faucet and drink clean water. it will create thousands of good-paying jobs with replacing these pipes. you know, in every meaning about this law makes it clear high-speed internet is as essential as clean energy and electricity. now to some action from new hampshire families and businesses as well. today one in ten households don't have internet actions and in some places there's none. it's going to create jobs lag down the broadband lines. no parent should ever have to sit in a fast food parking lot so they can get connected and kids can do their homework. really, think about it. in southwestern new hampshire there have bun 200 named storms in recent years you all know every winter power will go out from ice storms. it cost $551 million. this year, $899 billion in damages. more fires in the west burning down businessnd and horms and forests. this is the united states of america, for god's sake. why is it happening? there are severe storms. there's a lot going on. fewer people are going to loose power after storms hit. most of all, this law does something else that's truly a start. maggie, jeerngs annie, chris, we understand that it is time to rebuild the backbone of this nation. it's the reason why i ran. i left politics. i had no intentions of running again till i really got upset when i saw those folks coming out of that field down in virginia carrying swastikas and torches and white supreme cysts. take look at what's happened in the last 20 years. seriously, they built this country and they've been left out. trickle-down eric nomic does not work. to rebuild the economy from the bottom up is what i wanted to do, but do you know how much money they made in the last four years? $1 trillion. how about capitalists? do you want to be a billionaire and millionaire? that's great. good for you. pay your fair share. 550 corporations in the fortune 500. guess what -- i misspoke. 55 corporations in the fortune 500 made $40 billion last year. did not pay the taxes. who pays it? you all pay it. for real. think about it. that's why this bill is paid for. i'm going to be clear, especially here in new hampshire. no one earning in america less than $400,000 will pay a single sostair extra penny in extra taxes. i wouldn't even let the bipartisan commission include gas tax in this bill because that would mean working folks would be paying more money. look, this law is a blue collar, blueprint. we leave nobody behind. now a lot of focus moves on to implea meanting this infrastructure law. by the wa he loves the snow. i was asked by the president to make sure $900 billion that was being spent was, in fact, used well. well, guess what? we spent all that money building an awful lot of things, and less than 1% of waste is fraud. that's going to be much's job, making sure everything gets where it needs to go. this law meets that program. for most of the 20th century we led the world by a significant margin because we invested in ourselves. somewhere along the way we stopped investing in ourselves. china and the rest of the world are catching up, in some cases. now they're passing us. this is not a joke. according to the world economic forum, we now rank 13th in terms of infrastructure. we're about to turn things around. next year will be the first year in 20 years that american infrastructure investment will grow faster than china's, for example, and we'll have the best bridges, roads, and airports. folks, when you see these projects start in your hometown, i want you to see that. i think the same goes -- i don't want to get into the detail. my plan to build back better for our people, getting folks back to work and reducing the cost of things like child care, health care, drugs, 13 -- excuse me -- 14 nobel laureates in economics said it will bring down the cost, reduce the deficit, and it will totally pay for and reduce inflation. it will meet the moment of climate change as well. i'm confident the house will pass this bill, and when it passes, it will go to the senate and we'll get it passed within a week. it's fully paid for. it will reduce the deficit. as i said no, one making less than 400 grand will pay a single penny more. let me close with this. we emerged from the crisis by invoting in ours. during the civil war, we built the trance -- trance continental bridge. last night i had an important virtual meeting for 3 1/2 hours with china's president, xi jinping. years ago when i was vice president he asked me if i could define america for him. this is god's true story. i looked at him and said, yes, i can, in one word. possibilities. think about it. of all the nations in the world, we're the only one, the only nation i can think of that has come out of crises stronger than when we went into it. americans have always believed anything is possible. anything is possible. we've got to re-establish that spirit. we've got to re-establish that sense of who we are. there's no limit to what our people can do. there's no limit to what our nation can do. if you think about this thing, it's never been a good thing to bet against america. it's never been a good thing. never. give americans half a chachblts ordinary americans half a chance. they have never, ever, ever, let their country down, not once. this new law gives our people a real chance. it gives everybody a chance. that's why i truly believe that 50 years from now when historians write about this moment, they reasserted. that's exactly what they can do. god bless you all. may god protect our troops. thank you for your time. all right. i'm garrick headache in washington for hallie jackson. we've been washing president biden giving his speech in a snowy new hampshire, the first of a lot of speeches, as the president begins an all-out blitz to tout the new infrastructure framework. it's now the law of the land. let me bring in josh lederman who's traveling with the president. ali vitali is on capitol hill hill and annie palmer is from punch bowl. josh, i'll start with you. this is to be an all out push. talk about what we just hear and what we should expect in the weeks going forward. >> in a way, garrett, this felt like the kickoff for the plid term elections. the message you heard from president biden is going to be heard over and over again up and down through the democrats as they try to sell the public on what they feel are their biggest legislative achievements. you're going to see over the next week president biden, v.p. kamala harris, and top officials fanning out. a lot of battleground states, politically speaking. they're trying to get across to people of the magnitude of what he and democrats feel that they've been able to accomplish. as republicans we should note on this bipartisan infrastructure deal. they're trying to get across to people how this is going to affect their lives directly. a lot of this is going to take some time to really kick in. we're talking about five-year funding. a state like new hampshire, a ten-year plan. meaning some of this will be in the pipeline but went really be getting warnd for some time. it started snowing as (was coming out to speak. here in new hampshire they have the largest amount of home heating that uses propane gas. so when gas and energy costs go up, they hit people and consumers here in new hampshire, so it's a reminder, garkts even as president biden is counts on some prong, there are all of these eck nom eng charges. it's making it harder to buy them. >> it's a good point. we also heard the president talk about the future that the white house and democrats are hoping to get momentum on the larger climate and social spending bill. ali vitali, he says the house will pass it in a week. china chuck seemer is expecting that they will i do it together. people are coming back and forth. they expect to do this by the weekend, even saturday. the thing they're waiting for was the congressional office score. the thing they're hearing, they could have the cbo score by friday. they could set it up for wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday. nancy pelosi has said they're not leaving town for thanksgiving before they build the house business largely finished by the time everyone goes home to their familile. it shows all the different senate procedures you need to have in order to make sure this bill is privileged and it meets the rules of salvation so the democrats do this this in a partisan fashion. it's weeks away, but it's not the only thing on their plate. they'd like to move forward on the build back better act, both of funding the government and the date x day. there's a lot of things on the senate's plate. as we head to the midterm, josh said it felt like a kickoff. it just so happened. that's what they're going to put in from -- front of them. >> ali vitali, busy on the floor outside city hall. i don't know if you were can we get to kenosha? very good. we want to take you to kenosha, wisconsin, where the jury in kyle rittenhouse's double homicide trial is now approaching four hours of deliberations. the judge removed several of the jurors. usually a court clerk is assigned that task. nbc's shaquille brewster is outside the courtroom and i'm joined by charles coleman. shaq, bring us up to speed on the day's events. what are we looking at so far? >> reporter: we're in a bit of a holding pattern. that's because the jury broke for that pizza lunch, but we haven't heard anything since, so we assume they're deliberating, but we don't really know at this point. of course, we do know it was this morning around 10:00 a.m. this case got in the hands of the jury. since then we did get a note they did request more jury instructions. it was specifically the first six pages that dealt with the self-defense elements. those are the kind of tea leaves we're getting right now from inside the courthouse. the day started with the selection of the jury panel. it was actually done by kyle rittenhouse when he picked six out of the tumbler. up until this point we're just waiting on deliberations. while that is happening inside the courthouse, outside the courthouse you have a demonstration, picking up a little more still. a few dozen people. you have people who are here in support of kyle rittenhouse saying he was acting in his self-defense in exercising his second amendment and you those opposing it saying he was here, look for trouble, and advocating for his conviction. you have the tension here in the community. you have security folks, national guard on standby. at this point, there's nothing to suggest that it would as we continue to wait. >> let's hope that stays the case. charles, sac mentioned the jurors asking for extra copies of the judge's instructions. many watched the judge's instructions, kind of complicated. what can you read into these? >> they're really examining this notion of provocation versus self-defense. if you watched the summations yesterday, one of the things you saw were these competing narratives advanced by both the prosecution and the defense in as much as the prosecution was very much so selling a story about someone across state lines, went with an assault rifle for the purposes of being a hero in his mind. that's what he did. it got to confrontations. because of that, the prosecution is arguing he should not be able to plead self-defense in front of this jury. the other narrative is they're basically saying, look, kyle rittenhouse showed up trying to be helpful and providing the assistance in case people needed it. he only had the gun for protection that he had to use. the defense drove home their narrative. it's now created a jury where the jury needs to review it and make sure whatever the law says, it's consistent with their very deaths. that's the only thing i would take away from that. now they're considering them during their deliberations. >> so it seems like it's all going to come down to what the jury thinks about this self-defense argument. shaq, charles coleman, thank you both. i want to bring you back to the statement by pfizer where they're asking to have their pill approved. we should have dr. redlener back. talk about the timeline here. when can we see a vote, when can we see it going out. and how much is it that we have a pill that's effective. >> this has long been eagerly awaited. it's a game-changer, not to overuse a cliche. now if a person has symptoms and they go to the doctor and it's confirmed they have covid, they can get a pill. it's like a bring for tamiflu if you were having seasonal influenza. there's a downside i want to point out. people should not view this game-changer as a replacement for the primary weapon in the fight against covid, which is getting vaccinated. so it's definitely going to save lives, but more important what will save lives is people getting vaccinated. there's a lot of visions about this. >> i wanted to go back to that point because i think it's so important. it seems to be the fear that you or someone else you love is going to get sick. i wonder if the dark side of this positive news is, if there's a pill, i'm not going to bother getting a shot or two. >> right. i think that's exactly the point i and my colleagues are worried about, to look at it extractly as they describe it. yeah, i'm not going to bother. i think i'll wait and get a prescription. that is something that's going to set back the fight to get control of covid definitively. >> "the washington post" is reporting this afternoon the administration is planning on buying something like ten million courses of this pill at this stage of the pandemic. is that a good start or a tip of the iceberg. whatever it is, it's basically a good start. feiser is going to be allowing other countries to manufacture the bill. at the end of the day, yeah, we're going to have to have a lot of this pill available around the world, especially in those countries where there's simply not enough vaccine to get more than a tiny proportion of the population vaccinated. so it's a big deal in the u.s. and a very big deal globally, garrett. >> it's good to have you on, especially when we can talk good news in the fight against this pandemic. right now there's a hearing to in to try to step in. more good news. we have justice kronlts pete williams to is explain all this. can you take us how we got to today's hearing and what needs to happen for congress to finally get their hands on it. >> sure. if any american wants it, they can ask to have it turched over. they said, no, i don't think you're going to do that. you don't have a purpose. it's just to shame the president. >> they're automatically looking at whether or not to sanction them. the house sued the treasury department and under the trump administration, they decided not to gony gurt go through that. then they all agreed they should have the returns and that even. so we don't think the rushes should be turned over. that is what has kept the lawsuit alive. the former president is saying or >> reporter: and when you think about online shopping, the reason it's gone up in large part is when you look at those black friday sales that became so much earlier, that's helping drive some of that retail sales number and out here in california, you can see the reason why people are spending more on gas. behind me, we've got a gas station selling gas for about $5 a gallon. down the road, it's about $6 a gallon. and all of that is adding up to a holiday weekend, thanksgiving coming up. $600 million more a day americans are going to spend on their gasoline. all of that is driving these numbers up and it shows that people are spending money, but they're spending it perhaps earlier, for the holidays. it will be a sign of retailers later in the year. overall if you look at other indicators, walmart earnings, home depot, those came in strong and that means people are investing in their homes. they're getting ready for a season of gathering that they haven't had in two years. so even though consumer sentiment not so good, confidence, not great, people are still spending. we'll see what the year end brings because i think that will be the best indicator of where people are at with their personal economies and their wallets. >> thank you. i got most of my christmas shopping already because i was worried that stuff i ordered may not make it there on time. >> wow. smart. >> i felt very responsible. appreciate it. with me now is democratic congresswoman susan delbene of washington. congresswoman, i think you just heard jolene reporting, congress working on a couple of these big spending plans, but you've got also americans worried about more local economic issues to them personally. things like inflation and making sure their holiday spending is under control. how do you sort of balance those issues that people are having with the work that congress is doing right now? the votes of the members of the new democrat coalition? >> i think we have a lot of data already. there's the numbers that come from the cbo which are going to be estimates. they have to provide data within a certain framework that they are required to follow and i think we know that many of the investments we make for example in the child tax credit, lifting children out of poverty, they give us a long-term return. a return outside of the window the cbo looks at. lifting kids out of poverty is something that will help us for decades to come. so i think it's up to individual members to look at the data and to understand the broad implications which i think folks are doing, which is why the cbo score alone does not tell us whether or not we should make a vote. i think making sure we're making strong investments in families and workers in communities where we're going to get a strong return, that's what's important and that's why i support the legislation. >> congresswoman, i need a quick answer to this because if i go over time, a trap door opens under my chair and i just drop right out of the building here, but politico is reporting now there will be a vote on censuring paul gosar, the republican from arizona, perhaps as early as tomorrow. is that something you can confirm for us? other critical infrastructure needs. this also represents themost significant investment passenger rail in 50 years of public transit ever. here in new hampshire, that means replacing about one third of the transit vehicles. what it means is you'll be safer and you go faerp and better money. this may create up to 2 million jobs extra a year and up to 16 million jobs nationwide, good paying jobs, union jobs, jobs you can raise a family on, jobs that can't be outsourced. they can make it easier for companies to get goods to market. reduce what you're experiencing now. i just had to convince the portses of long beach and lanch to stay open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day because they're back uncontainer ships and vessels for hundreds of miles and miles and miles. that's why we don't have things on the shelves. they're making products we're buying here in the united states of america, the products that go into the products we buy. folks, we're going to lower costs for you and your family. this con gronk has passed a bill so we can turn on the faucet and drink clean water. it will create thousands of good-paying jobs with replacing these pipes. you know, in every meaning about this law makes it clear high-speed internet is as essential as clean energy and electricity. now to some action from new hampshire families and businesses as well. today one in ten households don't have internet actions and in some places there's none. it's going to create jobs lag down the broadband lines. no parent should ever have to sit in a fast food parking lot so they can get connected and kids can do their homework. really, think about it. in southwestern new hampshire there have bun 200 named storms in recent years you all know every winter power will go out from ice storms. it cost $551 million. this year, $899 billion in damages. more fires in the west burning down businessnd and horms and forests. this is the united states of america, for god's sake. why is it happening? there are severe storms. there's a lot going on. fewer people are going to loose power after storms hit. most of all, this law does something else that's truly a start. maggie, jeerngs annie, chris, we understand that it is time to rebuild the backbone of this nation. it's the reason why i ran. i left politics. i had no intentions of running again till i really got upset when i saw those folks coming out of that field down in virginia carrying swastikas and torches and white supreme cysts. take look at what's happened in the last 20 years. seriously, they built this country and they've been left out. trickle-down eric nomic does not work. to rebuild the economy from the bottom up is what i wanted to do, but do you know how much money they made in the last four years? $1 trillion. how about capitalists? do you want to be a billionaire and millionaire? that's great. good for you. pay your fair share. 550 corporations in the fortune 500. guess what -- i misspoke. 55 corporations in the fortune 500 made $40 billion last year. did not pay the taxes. who pays it? you all pay it. for real. think about it. that's why this bill is paid for. i'm going to be clear, especially here in new hampshire. no one earning in america less than $400,000 will pay a single sostair extra penny in extra taxes. i wouldn't even let the bipartisan commission include gas tax in this bill because that would mean working folks would be paying more money. look, this law is a blue collar, blueprint. we leave nobody behind. now a lot of focus moves on to implea meanting this infrastructure law. by the wa he loves the snow. i was asked by the president to make sure $900 billion that was being spent was, in fact, used well. well, guess what? we spent all that money building an awful lot of things, and less than 1% of waste is fraud. that's going to be much's job, making sure everything gets where it needs to go. this law meets that program. for most of the 20th century we led the world by a significant margin because we invested in ourselves. somewhere along the way we stopped investing in ourselves. china and the rest of the world are catching up, in some cases. now they're passing us. this is not a joke. according to the world economic forum, we now rank 13th in terms of infrastructure. we're about to turn things around. next year will be the first year in 20 years that american infrastructure investment will grow faster than china's, for example, and we'll have the best bridges, roads, and airports. folks, when you see these projects start in your hometown, i want you to see that. i think the same goes -- i don't want to get into the detail. my plan to build back better for our people, getting folks back to work and reducing the cost of things like child care, health care, drugs, 13 -- excuse me -- 14 nobel laureates in economics said it will bring down the cost, reduce the deficit, and it will totally pay for and reduce inflation. it will meet the moment of climate change as well. i'm confident the house will pass this bill, and when it passes, it will go to the senate and we'll get it passed within a week. it's fully paid for. it will reduce the deficit. as i said no, one making less than 400 grand will pay a single penny more. let me close with this. we emerged from the crisis by invoting in ours. during the civil war, we built the trance -- trance continental bridge. last night i had an important virtual meeting for 3 1/2 hours with china's president, xi jinping. years ago when i was vice president he asked me if i could define america for him. this is god's true story. i looked at him and said, yes, i can, in one word. possibilities. think about it. of all the nations in the world, we're the only one, the only nation i can think of that has come out of crises stronger than when we went into it. americans have always believed anything is possible. anything is possible. we've got to re-establish that spirit. we've got to re-establish that sense of who we are. there's no limit to what our people can do. there's no limit to what our nation can do. if you think about this thing, it's never been a good thing to bet against america. it's never been a good thing. never. give americans half a chachblts ordinary americans half a chance. they have never, ever, ever, let their country down, not once. this new law gives our people a real chance. it gives everybody a chance. that's why i truly believe that 50 years from now when historians write about this moment, they reasserted. that's exactly what they can do. god bless you all. may god protect our troops. thank you for your time. all right. i'm garrick headache in washington for hallie jackson. we've been washing president biden giving his speech in a snowy new hampshire, the first of a lot of speeches, as the president begins an all-out blitz to tout the new infrastructure framework. it's now the law of the land. let me bring in josh lederman who's traveling with the president. ali vitali is on capitol hill hill and annie palmer is from punch bowl. josh, i'll start with you. this is to be an all out push. talk about what we just hear and what we should expect in the weeks going forward. >> in a way, garrett, this felt like the kickoff for the plid term elections. the message you heard from president biden is going to be heard over and over again up and down through the democrats as they try to sell the public on what they feel are their biggest legislative achievements. you're going to see over the next week president biden, v.p. kamala harris, and top officials fanning out. a lot of battleground states, politically speaking. they're trying to get across to people of the magnitude of what he and democrats feel that they've been able to accomplish. as republicans we should note on this bipartisan infrastructure deal. they're trying to get across to people how this is going to affect their lives directly. a lot of this is going to take some time to really kick in. we're talking about five-year funding. a state like new hampshire, a ten-year plan. meaning some of this will be in the pipeline but went really be getting warnd for some time. it started snowing as (was coming out to speak. here in new hampshire they have the largest amount of home heating that uses propane gas. so when gas and energy costs go up, they hit people and consumers here in new hampshire, so it's a reminder, garkts even as president biden is counts on some prong, there are all of these eck nom eng charges. it's making it harder to buy them. >> it's a good point. we also heard the president talk about the future that the white house and democrats are hoping to get momentum on the larger climate and social spending bill. ali vitali, he says the house will pass it in a week. china chuck seemer is expecting that they will i do it together. people are coming back and forth. they expect to do this by the weekend, even saturday. the thing they're waiting for was the congressional office score. the thing they're hearing, they could have the cbo score by friday. they could set it up for wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday. nancy pelosi has said they're not leaving town for thanksgiving before they build the house business largely finished by the time everyone goes home to their familile. it shows all the different senate procedures you need to have in order to make sure this bill is privileged and it meets the rules of salvation so the democrats do this this in a partisan fashion. it's weeks away, but it's not the only thing on their plate. they'd like to move forward on the build back better act, both of funding the government and the date x day. there's a lot of things on the senate's plate. as we head to the midterm, josh said it felt like a kickoff. it just so happened. that's what they're going to put in from -- front of them. >> ali vitali, busy on the floor outside city hall. i don't know if you were watching, but start when the president came out. le i always look kin paechb. >> i was talking to democratic forces earlier today and how there's redissatisfaction. they're going across the country. yesterday was that typical day. you know, they're starting to do that, but i think there is a real fear it's too little too late. a lot of these jobs are not going to benefit them. the other real problem is the build back better lack. they're not selling some of the things that are more popular, paid leave. things like that, that could potentially play well. there's goemg to be frustration. removed several of the jurors. usually a court clerk is assigned that task. nbc's shaquille brewster is outside the courtroom and i'm joined by charles coleman. shaq, bring us up to speed on the day's events. what are we looking at so far? >> reporter: we're in a bit of a holding pattern. that's because the jury broke for that pizza lunch, but we haven't heard anything since, so we assume they're deliberating, but we don't really know at this point. of course, we do know it was this morning around 10:00 a.m. this case got in the hands of the jury. since then we did get a note they did request more jury instructions. it was specifically the first six pages that dealt with the self-defense elements. those are the kind of tea leaves we're getting right now from inside the courthouse. the day started with the selection of the jury panel. it was actually done by kyle rittenhouse when he picked six out of the tumbler. up until this point we're just waiting on deliberations. while that is happening inside the courthouse, outside the courthouse you have a demonstration, picking up a little more still. a few dozen people. you have people who are here in support of kyle rittenhouse saying he was acting in his self-defense in exercising his second amendment and you those opposing it saying he was here, look for trouble, and advocating for his conviction. you have the tension here in the community. you have security folks, national guard on standby. at this point, there's nothing to suggest that it would as we continue to wait. >> let's hope that stays the case. charles, sac mentioned the jurors asking for extra copies of the judge's instructions. many watched the judge's instructions, kind of complicated. what can you read into these? >> they're really examining this notion of provocation versus self-defense. if you watched the summations yesterday, one of the things you saw were these competing narratives advanced by both the prosecution and the defense in as much as the prosecution was very much so selling a story about someone across state lines, went with an assault rifle for the purposes of being a hero in his mind. that's what he did. it got to confrontations. because of that, the prosecution is arguing he should not be able to plead self-defense in front of this jury. the other narrative is they're basically saying, look, kyle rittenhouse showed up trying to be helpful and providing the assistance in case people needed it. he only had the gun for protection that he had to use. the defense drove home their narrative. it's now created a jury where the jury needs to review it and make sure whatever the law says, it's consistent with their very deaths. that's the only thing i would take away from that. now they're considering them during their deliberations. >> so it seems like it's all going to come down to what the jury thinks about this self-defense argument. shaq, charles coleman, thank you both. i want to bring you back to the statement by pfizer where they're asking to have their pill approved. we should have dr. redlener back. talk about the timeline here. when can we see a vote, when can we see it going out. and how much is it that we have a pill that's effective. >> this has long been eagerly awaited. it's a game-changer, not to overuse a cliche. now if a person has symptoms and they go to the doctor and it's confirmed they have covid, they can get a pill. it's like a bring for tamiflu if you were having seasonal influenza. there's a downside i want to point out. people should not view this game-changer as a replacement for the primary weapon in the fight against covid, which is getting vaccinated. so it's definitely going to save lives, but more important what will save lives is people getting vaccinated. there's a lot of visions about this. >> i wanted to go back to that point because i think it's so important. it seems to be the fear that you or someone else you love is going to get sick. i wonder if the dark side of this positive news is, if there's a pill, i'm not going to bother getting a shot or two. >> right. i think that's exactly the point i and my colleagues are worried about, to look at it extractly as they describe it. yeah, i'm not going to bother. i think i'll wait and get a prescription. that is something that's going to set back the fight to get control of covid definitively. >> "the washington post" is reporting this afternoon the administration is planning on buying something like ten million courses of this pill at this stage of the pandemic. is that a good start or a tip of the iceberg. whatever it is, it's basically a good start. feiser is going to be allowing other countries to manufacture the bill. at the end of the day, yeah, we're going to have to have a lot of this pill available around the world, especially in those countries where there's simply not enough vaccine to get more than a tiny proportion of the population vaccinated. so it's a big deal in the u.s. and a very big deal globally, garrett. >> it's good to have you on, especially when we can talk good news in the fight against this pandemic. right now there's a hearing to >> reporter: and when you think about online shopping, the reason it's gone up in large part is when you look at those black friday sales that became so much earlier, that's helping drive some of that retail sales number and out here in california, you can see the reason why people are spending more on gas. behind me, we've got a gas station selling gas for about $5 a gallon. down the road, it's about $6 a gallon. and all of that is adding up to a holiday weekend, thanksgiving coming up. $600 million more a day americans are going to spend on their gasoline. all of that is driving these numbers up and it shows that people are spending money, but they're spending it perhaps earlier, for the holidays. it will be a sign of retailers later in the year. overall if you look at other indicators, walmart earnings, home depot, those came in strong and that means people are investing in their homes. they're getting ready for a season of gathering that they haven't had in two years. so even though consumer sentiment not so good, confidence, not great, people are still spending. we'll see what the year end brings because i think that will be the best indicator of where people are at with their personal economies and their wallets. >> thank you. i got most of my christmas shopping already because i was worried that stuff i ordered may not make it there on time. >> wow. smart. >> i felt very responsible. appreciate it. with me now is democratic congresswoman susan delbene of washington. congresswoman, i think you just heard jolene reporting, congress working on a couple of these big spending plans, but you've got also americans worried about more local economic issues to them personally. things like inflation and making sure their holiday spending is under control. how do you sort of balance those issues that people are having with the work that congress is doing right now? how do you convince folks that you are listening and addressing those problems that are hitting people's pocketbooks right now? >> well, we are very focused on the economic issues that families are facing right now. and part of the challenge is that we're really seeing the exposure of a lack of investment in the past. things like infrastructure investments in our supply chain that would help get goods to market more quickly or components to manufactures so they can get goods out. these aren't new issues. these are issues that became worse during the pandemic and we need to address those. make sure that we are making investments in infrastructure thanks to the bill that the president signed yesterday. those investments start right away and we'll have a long-term impact. but we also need to make sure we're making investments to our families. lifting children out of poverty. addressing climate. helping with housing and childcare. those are all things that are hitting families right now and we were behind before the pandemic so this is not only an opportunity to catch up, it is an opportunity to get ahead and build back better. >> i know you can hit on those things if you pass this bill. i don't have to tell you the deadlines have come and they have gone on passing build back better out of the house. now speaker pelosi says you guys aren't going home until you pass this bill. what's your sense of the timeline and having a vote in the house? >> i think right now, the hope is to have the vote maybe thursday or friday. we could also be working here over the weekend. folks are waiting for the congressional budget office members to come in with that final piece of information so that some members who are waiting on that have the data that they need, but we really know because of the work we've done in the house, many of these issues have been well vetted. we've had hearings, et cetera. i think it's an important time for folks to decide and hopefully we'll be able to have that vote as soon as thursday, but we'll get it as the speaker said, want to get this vote done before the holiday. >> there are indications the cbo's going to come back and say that the provision about going after people who aren't paying their fair share of taxes might not bring in as much money as democrats believe it will. if this bill falls short on paper of being fully paid for, will that affect your vote? the votes of the members of the new democrat coalition? >> i think we have a lot of data already. there's the numbers that come from the cbo which are going to be estimates. they have to provide data within a certain framework that they are required to follow and i think we know that many of the investments we make for example in the child tax credit, lifting children out of poverty, they give us a long-term return. a return outside of the window the cbo looks at. lifting kids out of poverty is something that will help us for decades to come. so i think it's up to individual members to look at the data and to understand the broad implications which i think folks are doing, which is why the cbo score alone does not tell us whether or not we should make a vote. i think making sure we're making strong investments in families and workers in communities where we're going to get a strong return, that's what's important and that's why i support the legislation. >> congresswoman, i need a quick answer to this because if i go over time, a trap door opens under my chair and i just drop right out of the building here, but politico is reporting now there will be a vote on censuring paul gosar, the republican from arizona, perhaps as early as tomorrow. is that something you can confirm for us? do you support that? does more need to be done to discipline him as a member? >> i hadn't heard that, but i think we should hold him accountable. what he posted was awful and is something no member of congress, we shouldn't see that from people at all. no member of congress should have posted something like that. >> thank you for joining us and thank you all at home for watching this hour. deadline white house starts right after this short break. deadline white house starts right after this short break he . keep dreaming.
