investigation we have got some explosive new reporting from a book that reveals more about just how far donald trump was willing to go to overturn the election and if you think you've heard everything, just wait until you hear this. we are also just days away from the next big date in the fight over the texas abortion bill. i talk to leaders ahead of a key court date. plus following breaking news on a wild and deadly shooting in minnesota. and then a shocking story from ohio as a man makes a simple plea to police who pulled him over. >> i cannot step out. i'm a paraplegic. >> telling police he was paraplegic and unable to get out of the car didn't stop officers from violently pulling a man from his car. we're going to have that story ahead. incredibly disturbing stuff. we want to win the january 6 investigation so even as a subpoena shutdown looms this week for key aides a disturbing detail of donald trump's conduct before and during the attack on the capitol. abc news's jonathan carl describe it is length to which the former president went to overturn the election. this included arguing against aides who told him to call off the rioting. and spreading falsehoods shared first by jeffrey clarke that wireless thermostats made in china were used to manipulate voting machines in georgia. so intrigued was the president by this lie writes carl that he instructed jonathan ratcliffe to look into it. there is obviously no evidence to support the thermostat claim. got to say that. with me is two guests. welcome to you both. great to see you on this sunday afternoon. julie, evidence of discussions like the one with trump and clark, is that the kind of thing the committee's going to be looking for in the days and weeks ahead? [ no audio ] >> reporter: they look into january 6. >> there we go. >> reporter: i don't know what you heard me there but the rev lags in the new book are going to be part of the evidence that the house select committee considers. by the way also waiting for a trove of material from the national archives and those are sure to detail some of what jon karl lays out in the book and you have former president trump pressuring the ex-aides to defy the subpoena. they are required to appear and attend this week to detail what the former president knew and said and did on january 6. let's take a step back. the insurrection happened because former president trump supporters wanted to stop the steal and stop congress from certifying the election. you had the number two house republican on fox news asked point blank whether he believed that the election was stolen. take a listen to what he said. >> do you think the 2020 election was stolen from donald trump? >> i have been very clear from the beginning. if you look at states that didn't follow the state past laws that govern the election for president. that is what the constitution says. they don't say that the states determine what the rules are but the state legislatures determine the rules -- >> the states certified -- >> follow those -- right. are we going to follow what the constitution says or not? i hope we get back to what the constitution says. >> so you think the election was stolen? >> what i said is there are states that didn't follow the legislatively set rules. >> reporter: that was important to play for the viewers believe that interview took place this morning nearly a year after the 2020 election concluded. you had liz cheney who used to serve in republican leadership before she was kicked out and now the co-chair of that house committee investigating january 6 and said millions of americans have been sold a fraud that the election was stolen. republicans have a duty to tell the american people that this is not true. perpetuating the big lie is an attack on the constitutional republic. >> americans, folks i'm speaking to in the streets they believe this stuff hook, line and sinker and repeat it to us asking them about the election of 2020. danny, let's talk about jeffrey clark as a potential witness. is he exactly what the committee is looking for? those types of storys that are being told in karl's book? >> who the heck was jeffrey clark a year ago before the january 6 riots even happened? because here comes this justice department lawyer in late december apparently and allegedly meets with trump in the white house and a violation of policy. anyone who wanted to meet with the president would have had to run it by justy to get clearance and we want to know, the committee wants to know what was said at that meeting or at any of these meetings. where did the ideas come from? sending letters to georgia and other states raising issues about the election. jeffrey clark is a very important witness and folks have important questions for him. >> trump specifically instructing the former aides not to comply with the subpoenas. right? folks like mccarthy and scavino. bannon. wouldn't that suggest to a certain extent to the committee that he and his allies have something to hide? >> if they do that's a strike against them using executive privilege because a thing it protects and we don't know the contours of executive privilege since the supreme court created it. it cannot be used to she would wrongdoing and if there's wrongdoing or bad behavior this is not the thing the ex-president can use to shield it and a question whether an ex-president can raise privilege. nixon 2 part of the original series of cases the supreme court said the former president might have a say but not as much as the current president. >> all right. thank you guys both. appreciate it. we have new information out of st. paul, minnesota, where a bar shooting left one dead and 14 hurt. three men are arrested who police say were involved overnight. may began fitzgerald has the latest on this investigation. what more do you know about the men who are arrested here? >> reporter: yasmin, what we know is within the last couple of hours police confirmed that they did arrest three men as you mentioned connected to this shooting. their ages and they range from 29, 32 and 33 years old. we understand that this entire situation happened just after mid night this morning. multiple people opening fire inside a packed bar. police saying they saw people suffering with gunshot wounds outside and more people inside lying on the floor. altogether we are talking at 15 people shot. 14 transported to the hospital and expected to be okay but a 20-year-old woman, she did not make it. investigators tell us that she died in the hands of a friend who was desperate to save her. police have not released the names of the victims. they tell us they'll do so tomorrow and talking about an extensive investigation here with multiple law enforcement agencies that are right now combing the scene talking to witnesses, trying to get some answers because at this hour there's still unanswered questions and things we don't know how this started and why. >> thank you. in 48 hours or so a deadline looming over the next court fight over the texas abortion law. the 5th circuit court of appeals issued a stay on the halt. doj has until tuesday to stay the injunction. i sat down this weekend with two women on opposing sides of this battle. >> so your critic resumed abortion services over 48 thundershowers until the decision by the appeals court for this stay. that's going to leave you vulnerable to legal action. are you worried about that? do you regret resuming services during that time period? >> we don't regret it. it was the right thing to do. the people in texas needed abortion care and needed the hope and the victory of that injunction and so it means something to all of us, the doctors and the staff to get that injunction and to resume that care. it is scary. right? that's the whole design of it. it is meant to intimidate, to threaten, to make us afraid. >> part says essentially that you can pursue legal action against some of those clinics. do you so intend to do so? >> yes. so texas right to life and the movement we are dedicated to enforcing the act but there's a four-year statute of limitation and plenty of time to hold the industry accountable if they did violate the law in those 48 hours. >> what now? because no matter what happens on tuesday there's a fight ahead for the clinics and folks that are wanting abortion services for women in your state. >> the legal battle is going to be long over the next year or so, maybe longer, so we are hoping that we can get another injunction so that we can resume care in the interim. >> we have to wait and see what the full appellate court decides but we are optimistic that they may be favorable in that ruling. let's talk about this with me now wendy davis, former texas state representative. founder of deeds not words. you have been outspoken on what's taking place with sb 8. talk first about what is next for the state of texas was we await an answer by tuesday the deadline for the doj. >> sure. so right now, of course, the injunction has been lifted. that means that sb 8 is fully in effect once again. as you asked, the question of the anti-abortion guest that you interviewed earlier, she didn't really answer whether they were immediately going to bring suits against the clinics and front line abortion care workers who did perform abortions in those two days. if the appeals court does continue the position of preventing this injunction to be in place those clinics are going to be vulnerable to the suits under sb 8. my guess is that they're going to continue to try to keep things in limbo. right now they have had the best of all worlds because they have intimidated front line abortion care workers so much they're afraid to violate it. and they noy they haven't had to bring lawsuits in order to accomplish the closure of these abortion clinics across the state and i think they'll continue to take a restrained position because they know any lawsuit puts them in a courtroom that potentially is going to rule sb 8 unconstitutional and they're trying to avoid that at all costs. >> yeah. it is interesting that you say because the impression i got in my interview with texas right to life, right, the anti-abortion group, was that this law was designed to threaten some of these clinics from performing abortions. but whether or not they decided to carry out a lawsuit against any individual that participates in the performing of abortion services is another question. full well knowing if the constitutionality was questioned they may lose. >> that's exactly right so they're just sitting back and waiting to see what happens. and honestly, there may come a time if there is no injunktive relief there may come a time when it's necessary for clinics to begin providing abortion care under the constraints of roe v. wade, not of sb 8 and force this to a head. because unless and until those lawsuits motivate a test of its constitutionality our clinics continue to be shut down and roe v. wade continues to be overturned at least for the state of texas. one of the most important ways to help is to indemnify the workers if they violate sb 8 to test the constitutionality. we have a fund here in texas, fund the front line tx.org. that's what we'll use to indemnify the medical care workers if they face individual financial risk from the lawsuits. >> all right. wendy davis, thank you so much. stay close to us. because i know this is changing over the next couple days and like to keep in touch with you and talk to you once again as we see things emerge. thank you. still ahead, everybody -- >> help! >> stop. >> someone help! >> stop. >> somebody help me. i'm a paraplegic. >> the investigation into the shocking traffic stop in ohio where a man was forcefully pulled from the car after repeatedly telling officers he could not exit the vehicle. plus -- peanut butter and espionage. the bizarre details of a couple's arrest for allegedly trying to sell nuclear secrets. we'll be right back. ♪girl, i don't know, i don't know,♪ ♪i don't know why i can't get enough of your love babe♪ ♪oh no, babe girl, if i could only make you see♪ ♪and make you understand♪ get a dozen double crunch shrimp for $1 with any steak entrée. only at applebee's. now that's eatin' good in the neighborhood. we gave new zzzquil pure zzzs restorative herbal sleep with any steak entrée. only at applebee's. to people who were tired of being tired. i've never slept like this before. i've never woken up like this before. crafted with clinically studied plant-based ingredients that work naturally with your body. for restorative sleep like never before. ♪ limu emu & doug ♪ got a couple of bogeys on your six, limu. they need customized car insurance from liberty mutual so they only pay for what they need. what do you say we see what this bird can do?
