The White House wrote in part, we stand ready to provide Booster Shots to eligible americans once the process concludes at The End of next week. That process includes a signoff by the fda which could come as early as next week, then the cdcs vote. It could be just days before millions more americans roll up their sleeves again. When it comes to the other two vaccines, Booster Rollouts is unclear. Moderna we know has submitted an application with the fda this month. Good morning and good to see you. What do you make of the Decision Sheer by the panel to only recommend boosters for older and more vulnerable americans . I understand how the public could be confused. I believe President Biden spoke prematurely. The decision made friday by the Fda Viedsry Committee makes sense. It follows the signs that we have available thus far that older people are more likely to experience wang immunity to the vaccine and are more like loy to develop severe disease. Also people at high risk. Those include high Risk Disease or high risk occupations like Health Care workers. It will be interesting to hear what the Cdc Advisory Committee has to say because them kind of tease out which specific people in those highrisk categories will be eligible to receive the third dose. Doctor, i am always glued to your Twitter Page even though after your last vacation you said you werent going to respond to every tweet, you still are. And one of the reasons why i love following you is because there are so many people who say, doctor, i follow you, i listen to, you are the reason why after i was hesitant i ended up getting the shot. What do you say to people confused by this, and do you think eventually its just a matter of time before boosters will be for everybody . Yes, i absolutely believe there will be a time that a third dose will be available to everyone. Its just that right now at that time in terms of looking at the reallife data out there, so far we have hundreds of millions of people have received the vaccines and we really need to be careful about following the science, especially given you also have a large number of unvaccinated people in the country and the whole issue of global vaccine and equity. So, again, i am reassured seeing that the fda is following the data that is available. So for folks who are not eligible yet i would say wait for the data to come out once they are eligible they will receive their boosters. And personally how do you feel . As a medical professional you were one of the first to be eligible. Right. Yeah. Especially as a Health Care worker. Yeah, no, i think that especially those people in highrisk settings, the Delta Variant behaves very differently than the other variant. It makes sense for people in high risk settings to receive the vaccine, especially folks who received to more than eight months ago. That makes a lot of sense to me. Two more questions for you. I want to get to both of them. A new Cdc Report says Modernas Protection hoelsds up better in the longterm While Protection from pfizer declines over time. I got pfizer. Kendis got moderna. How could that impact the next steps snrchlts right. I know. Another piece of data. And so i think that the findings of this study actually really confirm and support the fdas recommendations for boosters for people over 65. This study actually looked at people, their median age was 68 years old. It was really an elder Age Subset of people showing this reduced noount to the pfizer vaccine. Seems appropriate that the advisory committee would recommend the for people over 65. Its interesting for the majority of the vaccine recipients, you know, we know that the Moderna Vaccine includes three times as much vaccine as the pfizer vaccine. We know that dosing between the first and second doses is different duration and that may be affecting the efficacy of the Moderna Vaccine. Interesting. All right. Finally, doctor, Flu Season. A lot of doctors and health officials are worried especially with covid cases so high right now. Last year it wasnt so much of an issue because we were at home, right . And so much of us were masking as we were supposed to. How can we convince more americans to get a Flu Shot when so many are, 54 are vaccinated against covid . Actually i tweeted about this the other day, this is the Fall And Winter to get that Flu Vaccine if you have never received it before. Our hospitals are overwhelmed. They dont have capacity to also deal with flu patients, especially in areas of low vaccination rates. But then the other issue is that we had a very good Flu Season last year. So we know that the flu is going to kind of is gonna return like a lion this fall and its gonna be pretty bad. So i encourage everyone to get their Flu Vaccine and covid vaccine, too. All right. That means that if congress doesnt pass a continuing resolution next week, the government may shut down as we have seen in the last few years. The second piece of that is the debt ceiling. Republicans said they are not going to help democrats raise it and they say thats because its democrats who spent trillions of dollars on covid relief bills. That upcoming reconciliation package. They said why should we help you now . Thats usually a bipartisan process. And if they dont work together to make this happen, the government could default, which neither side wants to happen. Now, that second deadline, september 27th, thats when Speaker Pelosi promised moderates a vote on that trillion dollars bipartisan infrastructure package. Now, progressives in the house will not vote for that unless they see significant movement on their democratsonly soft infrastructure reconciliation package. That has a lot of hurdles. Schumer last week, Majority Leader schumer in the senate, says that could take weeks because you have Joe Manchin and other democrats who say, no way, we are not spending anything close to the 3. 5 trillion. Thank you. Thousands of haitian migrants are set to be deported as soon as today. The group is being camped out as a makeshift Processing Site under an overpass in Del Rio, texas. Authorities have gone so far as to shut down this bridge running into mexico so they can better take care of the thousands of people, mostly haitian, that are currently living beneath it. Those plans are in place to increase the deportation flights in the next 48 hours. We have seen Border Patrol buses running nonstop as of yesterday trying to take people from this scene to other Processing Centers located up and down the texasmexico border in hopes of alleviating the overcrowding here. At last check the number nearly 15,000 strong. Men, women and children, some have been here from earlier this week. This Group Tripling in size since wednesday and right now it is just a race to get enough resources here as there is an indefinite amount of time before they see anything being alleviated. I want you to hear from a Del Rio residents how quickly this group has grown in the last few days. Take a listen. Talking about flying them to haiti. They came from south america. They left haiti. Haiti just had another national disaster. They are not set up to accept these people. So i dont know what the answer is, but its one thing when you see it happen like in the middle east. Dhs has said that those flights will be resuming. They are in conversations with the haitian government to take some of these individuals back to the country, but as you heard that man mention, it is important to note that many of these people here have been living in south america for the last several years before making that dangerous Journey North to the border. Dhs stating the border is closed. Dont make that dangerous trip here as they now work to take some of those folks back to haiti. Others being flown to Processing Centers here where they can make that claim of asylum. Meantime, authorities being tested as the former policy under President Trump in which had these people waiting in mexico while they awaited their Court Cases for asylum is no longer being implemented under the biden administration and right now we are seeing partially the result of that here with thousands being able to cross the rio grande, wait under the bridge on this side of the river while they wait for hopes of making those claims. But as you heard from dhs yesterday, these flights are resuming in the next 48 hours. Each plane carrying about 135 migrants. When you have a group as big as this one its still no small undertaking to alleviate the issue here. The mayor of Del Rio telling me complicating the issue is the fact that the city of see Yew Dad Acuna hasnt necessarily been as cooperative as they would have liked in slowing down the flow of some of these buses caring migrants. It looked like there were very few anomalies, if any. I was thinking these folks inside, the crew inside, they are very excited. I am sure they are monitoring what they can monitor and excited to ride into orbit and just as excited to come back home. Of course, reminded me of my first Shuttle Mission years ago. But i understand how they feel. It was neat to see how pumped up they were when they got back and brought back a lot of old memories. Reporter so your space Shuttle Missions, most space Shuttle Missions were about eight days. The ones that were just floating around, that werent going to the Space Station itself. What are they feeling like this morning . Are they still a little wobbly . Its only been three days that they had weightlessness. Even after a short flight of a few days like these folks they are going to come back and it will be surprising how dizzy they were when they got up on their feet. They felt heavier than they expected. Thats completely normal. And so after a short mission, after a good nights sleep probably the following afternoon, probably sometime today they will feel pretty much back to normal. After 6 1 2month flight, it takes you about a week or so or maybe even two or three weeks before you feel like you are back to normal. They are feeling the symptoms, definitely, but the adrenaline gets you through and they are certainly still very excited. Reporter yeah, so im curious about something. I assume that your dog is excited about the Spacex Mission as well. But im curious about something as well because the Inspiration 4 crew only did about five months of training. You guys trained for years for some of this stuff. Some of the equipment that they had onboard, they just came up with the idea for earlier this year. And it was already flightready on this mission. Did that give you any sort of concern at all about this mission . No, youre right. My Space Station mission we trained for 3 1 2 years, they in depth, very hands on. We are a professional crew. We have manual flying capabilities and things like that, all kinds of Emergency Scenarios to train for in addition to the payloads we were doing, the experiments and Everything Else. For this crew with a few months of training they are mostly trained on how to take care of themselves, how to take care of their pressure suits, put them on, take them off, what screens they could monitor, you know, some Emergency Evacuation procedures, things like that. So they were certainly trained, but there was no, you know, this was a fully automated flight. There was no flying to do for them. Of course, the Mission Control Center could also control the capsule from the ground. You were saying this week, i believe, that this feat happened a lot quicker than you expected it to happen. Where do you see Space Tourism going from here . Absolutely. This happened in very short order. I think it took a while for the commercial space and with humans, anyway, to reach Critical Mass and get going. Once it did, very excited to see Spacex Launch the first u. S. Astronauts to the Space Station and back and in short order Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos touched space and now weve got the first, you know, amateur crew flying into space. This kind of opens the door, the beginning, i should say. Its not, still not for the Quote Unquote Average Person because even though spacex has dramatically reduced the cost of launch, if you take Tens Of Millions for a rocket and divide it by four seats, its still a pretty big number. They have been speaking to various media and one of the things that we have been hearing most is that the family does want compensation. They are not satisfied with this extraordinary apology, though they were surprised by it, just as the media and everybody has been, this incredible reversal that you rarely see from the u. S. Government on something like this from a Drone Strike that killed so many civilians. One of the interesting things is that this family, of course, they were very afraid of the fact that they had been smeared as isisk members. Remember, even though isisk, they were responsible for that massive Suicide Blast after kabul fell that killed nearly 200 afghans and 13 u. S. Troops, isisk are also enemies of the taliban, which are now ruling all of afghanistan. So they were actually, this family, according to some media, were very pleased that the u. S. Insisted that these family members werent members of isisk. But this Drone Strike that tragically killed ten innocent civilians, it was targeting a man working for a u. S. Backed charity in california called nutrition international. He had been seen on video bringing Water Bottles into his house from his car and i think it sounds as though the u. S. Officials had confused those Water Bottles as Fuel Or Ammunition for some sort of Suicide Bombing and tragically decided to target him and again killed ten members of the family. We have one in wyoming, one in florida. What are investigators doing right now . Well, quite clearly, the investigation and the focus of the investigation has shifted somewhat. Of course, the multijurisdictional investigation is prioritized on locating gabby. Because theyve labeled mr. Laundrie a person of interest, there has to be a shift and resources devoted to try to locate him. What will be difficult is mr. Laundrie has focused as a person they could have been treating as a potential Witness Or Someone who had some valuable information to in essence a subject, a suspect and if that is the particular case, well find that the cooperation will be limited. No attorney on the face of the earth is going to advise mr. Laundrie to cooperate with any interview moving forward and now that hes a suspect the interview has turned into a potential inter row guy.
