International airport. So much has happened today. Tonight we will take stock in whats happening on the ground, and we will answer questions that you submitted online, about why this happened and what could happen next. From nbc News World Headquarters in new york, im joshua johnston, welcome to the week. Let us begin at the monumental events that took place in afghanistan today. Taliban fighters marched into kabul, Intent On taking full control of the capital city. They faced a little resistance as they entered the president ial palace. They are flag now flies in place of afghanistans flag. Meanwhile, the american flag no longer flies over what was the u. S. Embassy. Diplomats removed, as they an Embassy Personnel were evacuated by helicopter. President of afghanistan has fled the country. He wrote on facebook that he did so to try and spare the city from additional violence. Just in time to. Commercial flights, out of afghanistan are off suspended. That blocks a key escapers, for afghan citizens, who are still inside the capitol. Our mission on this show is to slow down the news cycle, to make time for clarity and context. We on this network of spent all day telling you whats going on, in this hour its time for us to listen. You have sent us an array of good smart questions about how we got here. What comes next and much more. Thank you so much for sending them. We will spend this Hour Answering as many of them as we can. So, if you know someone whos been asking you questions about all of this, tell them to tune in, because we have so much to unpack, from this historic day. First lets get the latest from nbcs bureau chief, who joined us live. What are people In Kabul waking up to this morning . Hi joshua. Kabul are waking up to a new regime in Afghanistan One that was ousted 20 years ago because of its tyrannically brutal rule, but now they are in full power of the country essentially. Now they have taken it over, without much of an effort. They are as you mentioned, in the president ial palace. The afghan flag has been taken down, and the taliban flag is flying their. The president , or should i now say the former president of afghanistan, has fled, the Security Forces have essentially all fallen apart. And the taliban are in control of kabul and other cities. What was left of the Security Forces have shed their afghan government uniforms. And they are either wearing taliban close or regular close, just to blend in. Because everybody there knows now it is all over. And of course with the taliban taking over in that country, it is also triggered an exodus, a desperate exodus from the country, trying people trying to get anywhere they can, and obviously many of them are pouring into iran where i am now, which shares this long border with afghanistan. They are desperate to get out of the country, the iranian government here has set up three makeshift camps for afghan refugees, along the border. And theyre waiting to see just how many people are going to flood into this country. Theres already about two and a half million afghans here. That number is going to go up dramatically. In many of the afghans that work here, that have been here for many years, are making desperate calls to anybody they know, to borrow some money or to make a call to a contact they know. To help get their wives, their children, and other family members, afghanistan, willing to leave everything behind. Just to get their family over here. And its also triggered some extraordinary scenes. We saw yesterday, this amazing video, of Afghan Military pouring into iran, with advanced equipments in vehicles. They were probably supplied to them by the u. S. That the iranian Defense Ministry will be very happy to get its hands on. Of course the iranian government says they are not taking any sides. They dont support the taliban nor are they against them. But they have put a call out to the taliban, asking them to protect iranian personnel In Kabul. There is some irony there. That the u. S. Would be in afghanistan for 20 years, are frantically evacuating, but the irony personnel are staying puts In Kabul, thank you ali. Thats nbcs ali arouzi, just west of out ghanas. Sandwich shares a border with iran. Heres matt seller, u. S. Army veteran, and author of watches without time. An american soldier enough dentist in. Also with us tonight is kevin, bear in the Executive Editor of defense one. Gentlemen we appreciate you being with us. We have lots and lots of good questions including some very good smart basic questions, about what is going on. Lets begin with a question from twitter. They write, why did we go into afghanistan in the first place . Kevin, could we start with you, just give us the quick 1 01, remind us how we got to this point, from a perspective at the beginning. Thats a real eyeopening first question. Thats where the real Starting Point is in the american conversation. Here we got in afghanistan because thats where the terrorist of 9 11 trained, in the immediate response was sending u. S. Special forces into afghanistan, to basically link up with friendlier forces there. And go after the terrorist, specifically alqaeda in the Osama Bin Laden who is believed to be hiding there. The cia probably has a much fuller answer for that than i do. I was jacksonlee going to come to you with the next set of, that to why we got, into how we are getting out. Maryland on instagram asks, if not now, when should we have got now . Was it inevitable that the taliban would take power, i dont blame biden or any past president , i just think this is what was going to happen. Im praying for those afghanistan women and children. We will talk about that women and children more as our coverage continues. Please stay with us for that. But matt, what about her question. If not now, when. Was it kind of inevitable that this might happen . Unfortunately, it clearly was. When i served in 2000, innate i had a distinct feeling that we had lost, then for a number of reasons. My favorite is, i got to meet my enemy, once it was after a battle in which we had killed, a certain number of Taliban Fighters. In the result the one guy left, alive and i actually got to talk to. Him and i asked him why was he fighting. I explained to him that he couldnt beat me in a battle. I just killed all of his buddies that day. That i had more military than he will ever bear on the battlefield. Why was he fighting me. I wanted to know that. And he pointed at my watch. He said you americans have all the watches. We have all the time. And i knew then what he meant was that, they simply meant to outlead us. They knew eventually we would tire of this and want to go away. And i also saw from the Afghan Military that was going to take it least generation to train them in, then we would lose interest by then. But heres whats so tragic. At the beginning of this. Year we had 2500 troops in afghanistan. We have not suffered a casualty in a very long time. And we still controlled every single major city. Those women you care about, their futures, they are over. The afghan government is gone. And that is frightening, because this taliban is not the taliban of the 19 nineties. The taliban of the 19 nineties took over a country that was devastated by civil war. And had a couple of tanks. This taliban, they now have more helicopters than 166 other nations on the planet. To include australia. They have an air force, they have arm drones. They have all that Military Equipment that you saw pouring into iran. They have that tenfold everywhere. Kevin, with regards to all of that. With the 20 years we spent, lets get to a question from terry, who tweeted, after 20, years what has changed for the better. How long should american troops be expected to give up their lives for an unwilling Ball War . Lets break this into two parts. Kevin take the first part. What has changed for the better if anything in afghanistan . Including perhaps some of the things that might change back under the taliban. Thats a two Part Question and a loaded one of The End as well. There are a Lot Set of change for the better. The taliban then, is different than the one we are seeing today. And so is the country. There are a lot of Aid Workers, who pointed the women first and foremost. Saying women could not go to school before, and under the united states Led Coalition, and now passed afghan government, women went to school and they did in droves. They had better rights, not perfect rates, but better rights. They were actually women serving in Government Leadership positions. There was something different happening. There is greater agriculture production, greater economic output, there is an international community behind. Then there was a lot of things different that were better. But there was also rampant corruption. And afghanistan still remains one of the least developed countries on the face of the earth, by the un development index. This is a country where we were sent into train a military to become a better military. I also spent a lot of time going in and out, getting briefed by commanders in charge, saying this population cannot even read. They dont understand the numbers that are written on the checks that are being to pay them. I remember meeting one special Operations Soldier who said, he realized that when he was talking to counterparts when evening, that the afghans they were speaking to, did not have a concept of the solar system. So the gap from zero to whatever the goals were, including functioning air force, governance, was monumental. But things have changed. Things were better for a whole lot of afghans, and this is not just a bad News Story until today. Matt that kind of gets to the second part of the question, how long should american troops be expected to give up their lives for an unwinnable war. Understanding of course that breaks into the question that the assumption that the wars unwinnable. But considering what kevin told us, i wonder if you think this could have gone any other way . As long as the american military stay, there we essentially protected the status quo. I would argue that is would now transpiring is far worse. Let me ask the viewers this. I have a daughter, shes nine, if it gone on much longer she couldve fought a, knit and shame on us for having a gone on that long. It wouldve been like a fight fought in vietnam when i graduated from high school. With that being said, if we are a country that truly cares about human, rights and defending those human rights. Unfortunately sometimes that means defending them at the barrel and of a gun. And the people who just took over afghanistan or as evil as the nazis. They are conducting mass executions right now, in some of the cities. Like kandahar. Where the people come to the stadiums in watching. Women in are now band of going to work. That seems to be a common theme now all across the country. I Cant Help but think what is transpired is truly awful. And would i am most concerned about, is not only the 10,000 american citizens who are still currently trapped in afghanistan, some of whom ares my own family. Im also worried about the over 90,000 wartime allies in their family members, interpreters, engineers, i. T. Workers, the people who picked up our trash. All of those people now are going to be sentenced to death. Im sorry to interrupt. You mentioned the people who are trapped in afghanistan, including your family, have you been able to make contact with them . Do you know what conditions are . And you might have looked to me at the beginning of this looking down at my phone. Yes there alive. I have a cousin whos at the airport. I have another relatively strapped in the city. Im trying to get them out. This is personal for a lot of us. These are people who, i was just talking to a guy in the war, his name is chuck. Hes probably watching. He told me he called the veterans hotline tonight. Not cause hes feeling suicidal. He just need to talk to. Somebody i get, that i might be calling later to. Cause this is triggering a lot of things. But one of the things that triggers the most is that these are our people. Just because they were born in america, does not mean that they should not be protected as americans. When i came home from the war, i have the luxury of coming back to the best country on the planet. These people went on to the next unit in the next mission and for that, the taliban are going to kill them, if theres any veteran that we should be saving, it should be them. Im sorry that you have to have this conversation with this while this is hanging over your head. If you need to dip out and take a call, we obviously completely understand. I appreciate you being willing to talk to us about that, as hard as it, is and answer some of these questions, we will get more into these questions in just a minute. So matt, kevin, sit tight. Coming up we will dive into how we got here in afghanistan. In what we should expect going forward. But first heres some of the days first headlines. Joshua thanks so much, a very good sunday to you. Has been changing fast. It did not take long for Taliban Fighters to Takeover Provinces across that country. Today Afghanistans President fled, as Taliban Fighters and to the capital. New video shows fighters inside the president ial palace. This all happened despite the u. S. Pouring 83 Billion dollars into training, and equipping afghan forces, this is what that investment was meant to prevent. So how do we get here . We are back afghan Security Forces, and kevin, the Executive Manager of defense one. Joining our panel is a u. S. Army veteran, and Board Member of iraq and in Ghana Stand veterans of america. Good to have all of you with us. Lets start back up with, you in something that President George W. Bush said back in 2001. He said quote, ultimately, one of the best weapons one of the truest weapons that we have against terrorism, is to show the world the true strength of character and kindness. Of the american people. And that the american people were united in the fight against terrorism as well as united in their concern for the innocent people of afghanistan. How does that statement look now, 20 years later . Its one that still resignations in us, and thats the pain of this. So many of us, i was already serving in the reserve, when 9 11 happened. And i remember the unity, and the patriotism that people felt, after 9 11 and so many people signed up after 9 11. And we felt like we were serving our country. We are standing against the people who attacked us. We were preventing any Terror Attack from ever happening again in afghanistan. And through our experience in afghanistan, we got to know afghans, we got to see the ruin that decades of war by other competing interests, have caused, in the illiteracy, the lack of economic development, we wanted to help. We built relationships, we built partnerships, we made friends. We made strong friendships. And we worked with the army, we worked on humanitarian aid. We did all of these things. I know for one that i really believed in. And i believed in a better afghanistan. I believed that helping afghanistan, be better, modernize, get folks educated, get a media started, get the army started. Get the police. That this would really, was an expression of who we weres americans, we made promises to our afghan partners. That we were with them, shoulder to shoulder. We believed in it. We risked ourselves together. I saw my Afghan National Army colleagues out with nearly any of the armor that we had on our vehicles, are on our bodies. And i remember having conversations after a very bad night, and saying, how did you guys do this. How did you all go out there and do the mission. And be taken aback at how brave and patriotic they were. And to know how much they were risking in sacrificing, even then. Afghan troops and Security Forces, they sacrificed year after year. This june alone, more than 700 afghan Military And Security forces died. In defense, of their country. We forgive me for interrupting. To that point that leads to one of her audience questions. And i wonder, kevin could you take this question. This is a question from lisa, who wrote, i really want to hear why weve been lied to for decades by multiple administrations. And multiple military leaders. About the readiness of the afghan army we trained. Short of staying forever how is today ever going to be any different. Kevin what about that . Thats a good question thats been brought up. The readiness of the afghan army. Or the willingness of some in the afghan defense forces to even resist the taliban rather than surrender at the risk of their own lives. Kevin how do you see it . All day ive seen a lot of these comments, aimed at the u. S. Leadership from day one. Arguing that the american people have been lied to. Are that every time a general said that they thought progress was being made, that somehow that general is lying. I dont believe that. And i say that with some seriousness. Ive spent the last decade myself covering the pentagon, more than a decade actually. And many times in my role, you cover the leadership. You cover the four stars, the three stars, the chairman who go in and out. And i believe a lot of them Whos Cycle in, they are handed the problem. And its their job to assess it. And then move it forward. And they have a mission. That mission may have been hamstrung, and may have been wrong, and may have been misguided, it may have been under funded or whatever you want to say about it. But a lot of them thought that what they got, and what they left with were two different things. They thought things were better. I dont know, one person that i covered, whoever thought things were great, whoever thought the mission was accomplished. In fact i heard just the opposite. I heard mostly from generals who said, washington was not giving them enough. They would ask for some and then get half that number. And on the other side, they would ask for even more money for the state department, Money For Non Military Ways to build up the country, to do the counterintelligencey, and that was underfunded to the level that was required. It was always something. Less more politically palatable. And so im not arguing that more should have been done. Or that left should have been done. Im just stating that its not, i think its disingenuous in too easy to say, that generals a belong to us all of a long. That the afghan shouldve done better. The ground troops new butter. We all knew, that the success of the afghans, was entirely dependent upon the united states Led Coalition having their, back and that their capabilities were only going to be as good as their faith in the government in the country that they were asked to go out and defend. Just like iraqis and syrians when Isis Storm through their country as well. No faith In Kabul. And now especially overtly to have no reason to have any faith in the united states or the community, once biden pulled the plug. Of course this is what was going to happen. Briefly before we have to pause. Matt can i get your assessment to. That particularly in terms of what happens next. We train the military, the mission was to prevent further attacks on u. S. Soil. Now the taliban seem all but assured to retake the country in total. What does this mean going forward, one of our viewers wrote on twitter, have we been put engraved injure now . Are we less safe because of the way this mission has turned out . Before we pause, where does this leave us, in terms of Fighting Terrorism . I can tell you immediately what needs to happen, is the president of the united states, and i hope hes watching, or somebody who works for him is, you need to order the u. S. Military to seize control of the entire airport of kabul. You that need to create some type of Safe Corridor that we can evacuate the people that we currently have stuck In Kabul, to the airport. Meaning you either have to go get them, or you have to make a deal with the taliban to let them move safely. Because the taliban again, have erected checkpoints, and theyre using the biometrics, database that what you left behind, as a Hit List to hunt down anyone that works for us. And kill them. Onsite. So immediately what needs to happen is we need to keep that fundamental promise that my sister kristen was talking about. We have to keep the promise, to the people who stood shoulder to shoulder with us. People like kristen i look these people in the eye and said wed be there for them in their moment of need. That is. Now you open with president bushs remarks, i still hope they hold true. I know theres an army of americans right now, who are fighting to try to privately get them out, and this is 1 am to, tell you i dont know what happens after we get these people out of their. I can tell you this, however weve left behind a far more dangerous Taliban And Alqaeda that ever existed on september 11th. We will continue this conversation in just a minute. Do stick around. President biden, as weve mentioned, is monitoring the situation in afghanistan tonight, but with kabul under siege. Some in congress are laying blame. The House Intelligence Committee is planning another briefing soon. But with washington in crisis mode. Many are looking for someone to blame. I think absolutely President Biden Bears Responsibility for making this decision. But there is no responsibility that trump, and secretary pompeo, also bear significant responsibility for this. President trump told us the taliban would fight terror, pompeo told us the taliban was going to renounce okita. None of that is happen. None of it is happened. They are destroying classified documents as we speak. The Visa Processes stopped. And now, President Biden said in july, this is not going to be a saigon. Guess what, we think its gonna be worse. Joining us now our Matt Gorman and anita. Good to see you both. I wonder math, can i start with you. Who is to blame for this. Some of its been laid as President Trumps terms with rather than pull out and perhaps with the winter, when we know the taliban do not fights, because the winters are two forbidding in afghanistan to do so. Maybe theres enough blame to go around. But who do you think we should be pointing the finger at . Ill say this, it seems like it doesnt really matter to have blame, we need to get those guys out. When Donald Trump and Joe Biden Head essentially the same position. Get the heck out of afghanistan as soon as you can. A lot of people disagree with that. Certainly liz cheney, but it is defendable. Whats not defensible is how were doing, it. Were jeopardizing the lives american military personnel, and personnel to think Nothings Man kristen were talking about, about the afghans that helped us along the way. And the way the biden administration has handled it, with a strongly worded statements from the state department, or the White House saying will the taliban, we can only consider with the international community will think of them. Like the taliban cares. Whats happening right now, under the biden administration, is absolute disgrace. When eta, what do you make of the fact that among other, things President Biden has not made a public appearance today. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was on a number of the Sunday Morning programs, including Meet The Press over an embassy, trying to defend the administrations actions, but hes not the commanderinchief. Where is President Biden . I feel like President Biden is making the move of let me get as much more information as it unfolds as possible, to be able to pivot when necessary. Because right now what we have seen, are a few pivots. As hes got more information from the joint chiefs, as well as the secretary of defense, hes added additional troops on the ground twice over the weekend, to get those americans safely out of afghanistan. As well as to get the Tens Of Thousands Afghan citizens who did help u. S. Troops, u. S. Media. I feel like he is hunkering down, paying close attention to this, and Secretary Blinken is out definitely doing his rounds on the sunday shows. But i do agree with the know that, the definition, or the reason for this chaos that were witnessing, has not been adequately address by the administration. And i do appreciate the focus on getting americans out. What were seeing with the Helicopter Airlifts with the airport, what were seeing with the president of afghanistan leaving the country. There is so much more that needs to be explained, as to why is the Embassy Staff did not go down to the Skeleton Staff as troops left the country weeks ago. And so much more that couldve been proactively prevented here. Including the Visa Process for the afghans you are trying to seek refuge in the united states. Matt, i mentioned that Secretary Blinken was on Meet The Press this morning. Heres part of how he explained, the Administrations Perspective on the outcome of this mission. Watch. We went into afghanistan, 20 years ago. For one mission. And that was to deal with the folks that attacked us and 9 11. To bring them to justice, and to make sure to bring him to justice and to make sure they can do that for afghanistan. We succeeded in achieving those objectives. The idea that we would sign up for remaining, there in the midst of a civil war. For another 5 10 or 20 years was simply not in the national interest. That was the hard decision the president. Made so matt, what about. That the way that he elaborated the mission. To deal with the folks that attacked us on 9 11, bring them to justice, and make sure, to the best of our ability that they would not be able to do that again from afghanistan. If that was the mission, in its totality, how did we do . Later in that interview also, though Secretary Blinken said well, we had our hands tied because President Trump committed us to a timetable that we already extended. So the biden administration is trying to have a both. Ways whats he saying their innocence was, mission accomplished, we need to get, out thats where were going to. Due in later said, we can do anything about, it President Trump committed us to a deadline, that we had already extended. I think criticism is very justified, from president obamas own ambassador to afghanistan. Who said that we handed the country over to the taliban. And i was very surprised how strong worded he said. He questioned the ability for Joe Biden to be commander in chief, these are obamas own people. What about the impact of what we left behind. Congresswoman Jackie Speier from the san francisco Bay Area told msnbc this, earlier today. This is a crisis of untold proportions. And i would agree with richard. This is an Intelligence Failure. We underestimated the taliban. And overestimated the resolve of the afghan army. The Richard Shes referring to, is richard angle, three who have the report for us in the next. Our basically saying, totally saw this coming. Was not in any doubt that this was the way that it could, or likely would go down. Was this than Intelligence Failure . Was this an unforced error, was this Snatching Defeat from the jaws of victory . If we knew that this was likely to happen, how did we let it happen . Joshua, im convinced that no matter when the u. S. Left afghanistan, this type of Scenario Wouldve played out, because after 20 years, after a trillion dollars, after countless resources. After sacrifices from our troops, this is what were left with. And so im convinced this type of Failure Wouldve precipitated no matter when we left the country. Again i want to come back to, is the lingering impact in this country. This lack of stability, this lack of safety for women and girls in particular, is absolutely something thats going to be an ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country, that needs to be addressed as well. As again the first priority of removing any americans on the ground in afghanistan. Along with any afghans who helped u. S. Forces. Matt in the last few, seconds would about the way they were pulling out of afghanistan. Its possible that this was the best possible outcome. That this was the least bad outcome. And because of the situation we are in, there was no good outcome. There was no winning in afghanistan. Its just the least bad of all the outcomes. What about that . Before we go . I think its a fair point, i think what youre going to see now is afghanistans going to be pre9 11. Youll also the chinese will be when they deal with taiwan, and the russians when they deal with the ukraine. And now the reacts according lee as well. We appreciate you making time for us tonight, thank you very much. Coming up. Some have compared this taliban siege, to the fall of saigon. Or the battle of dunkirk. But are those comparisons fair . Back in 1975 people Saw Chaos on their televisions. Americans being airlifted to the u. S. Embassy, in saigon. The moment became a symbol of defeat. Today, we saw helicopters flying over kabul. Americans were being evacuated, from the u. S. Embassy. Our panel is back with us. Kevin and christian, what do you make of her comparison to the withdraw from zion. Is that a fair comparison . I hate it. To be honest. And i posted on twitter saying one of the smarter responses was that, in vietnam over 50,000 americans were killed. Back home in the united states, there have been a years of antiwar protests. There was a whole other set of circumstances that led to that image. And a shot of the helicopter over the embassy of saigon on that day, compared to a shot that happened to caption the Helicopter Flying Over Kabul today, its simply not the same thing. Yes, they are both bad. Yes, there are now afghans in americans rushing to have airports to get out. But im not sure why we can make this comparison other than them saying for years and years, anytime a world looks like its not going gray, it must be another vietnam saga. For me, i understand why it comes off, but its incredibly frustrating. I expected. It doesnt, matter its not the same thing. Theres a lot more to talking about moving forward. We have a few more questions would like to get to from her audience. But first, chris, i want to get your sense of this comparison. I think that underneath it is this implication that we ran away with her tail between our legs. We screw this, up they caught us flatfooted, we shouldve seen him coming. And because we messed up this whole thing, weve had to kind of leave the house was on fire. So, we are just blundering our way out of afghanistan in a situation that was untenable, and unwinnable. Do you think that thats a fair historical comparison . No. Because, the u. S. Evacuated more than 120,000 vietnamese After The Fall of southeast nam. The afghans that we are evacuating right now are a tiny sliver of that. We are hearing from afghans on the ground right now who have been trapped for years and bureaucracy, a 15step Process for an interpreter visa. Even within the last few days, interpreters were getting appointments at the u. S. Embassy In Kabul for september. Even as they were evacuating. It is inexplicable how long the Siv Process has taken. The new puppy to visa has been opened up. And i cant make sense of it. It is so opaque. Theres no timeline to it. Its such a wait and see process. And afghans dont have insights to be able to get out. They dont have passports for their families to be able to take everybody out. There is such restriction right now on getting any afghans out. We are hearing from folks on the ground who are hunkered down, and they work with the u. S. , they know that they are going to be hunted down by taliban very soon. Some of them are sending goodbye notes because they believe that they are going to die imminently. We are abandoning tens of thousands, if not more than that, and there is a lot of talk about evacuating our afghan allies. But were not seeing it happening. With were not seeing it happening. With regard to evacuations i should say that we have a government from Europe Know who says that french authorities have also decided to relocate their embassy to campbells airport. According to the statement, more than 600 people are under the custody of the ministry of interior. They are also at the order of french president emmanuel back home, sending military me enforcement to the United Arab Emirates to begin evacuations to abu dhabi. Just to get the geography of west of afghanistans iran, west of that is the persian gulf. And a Bit South of there are dubai, and the United Arab Emirates. So, its a bit of a trip. But france is also closing its embassy In Kabul. More than 600 people to be evacuated, with French Armed Forces on their way to the uae to facilitate that evacuation. Id like to infect, its worth mentioning that within the last couple of, hours the state of point out a joint statement explaining what happened in the next couple of days, which is that with the now Grand Total of 6000 u. S. Troops going into the country, and an unknown number of air frames, their attempt is to do exactly what we talked about earlier. Security airports, Takeover Air Traffic control, secure all routes to the airport. Secretary blinken has put out a tweet, or statement saying, you know, those routes to the airport for afghans who want to remain open. The international community should keep them open, we just dont know how quickly we can we look at people out. Theyre Counting Bodies on pictures of people walking up and see 17. I think that the next three days, maybe the next week is going to be very very sorry briefly met before we go. It cannot be im sorry. We have to add that and that conversation right now. Nobody can navigate for three days to. Week where the united states of america. We will sorry, no. We will leave when this mission is complete. Let us be fundamentally clear. The Islamic Emirate Of Afghanistan are not our friend, we should not honor agreements with them. They just overthrew the democratically elected government of afghanistan, and theyre not going to install sharia law. What we should do is focus on honoring our promise. You talked about vietnam. That there is something that we need to make abundantly clear. In vietnam we got lucky. We had an ocean and boats to work with. We do not have that now. We have to fly people out, we should stay there to do it as long as we can, and it is really simple. At The End of the war, there are two things that matter, was It Worth . It how do we end it . Youve been talking all night about whether that that is worth it. Thats for history to say yes. But how do we end it . That is up to us, and right now we are doing it with shame, not honor. Appreciate the three of you talking to us to help answer all of these audiences quenches. Matt zeller, kevin berry, karen morales.
