Just at this point it would not be in our best interest to talk about it. About four months ago you and i in very vague terms talked about it and you said essentially victims need to come forward before we can take any action. Is there any indication of why the timing is now, now four or five months after the initial report, you decided to take action . I really Cant Answer that. What i can say is its obvious that the Attorney General released her report. I think maybe at that point she became aware of just how brave the other victims are to come forward and that may have empowered her some as well. Do you have any estimate of how long the investigation might take . You know what, i would be guessing. I mean, this is obvious a very high profile investigation. Theres a lot of information out there. We have a lot of factfinding to do. We have a lot of interviews to do. And im not going to rush it because of who he is, and im not going to delay it because of who he is. Were going to conduct a very comprehensive investigation, as my investigators and my staff always do, and when the data and the facts are compiled, well make a decision at that point. [ Inaudible Question ] i couldnt hear the beginning of that. [ Inaudible Question ] no, its obviously a high profile investigation. I mean, its the governor. But, listen, we treat victims the same, we investigate the same, this one just has more eyes on it. [ Inaudible Question ] no, i have not. I have spoken to our District Attorney and members of his staff. We have discussed it and we hope to sit down in the upcoming week to come up with a game plan. Listen, the last thing we want to do is continue to revictimize these victims and have them tell the story over and over again. Ive read the report as well. Ive read our report that we took from our victim. And, again, i commend them on their bravery for coming forward and now its time for us to begin our investigation. Will your investigation be assisted by the. [ inaudible ] it would be hard for me to answer that. Theres other information out there and thats the data and information were looking for. [ Inaudible Question ] im sorry . [ Inaudible Question ] well, right now i would say that our investigation is involving criminal conduct. I believe that the Attorney General was given their investigative powers, that were steered more toward civil investigation. Our investigation is more toward a criminal investigation. [ Inaudible Question ] so obviously mr. Primo and his client came in on thursday afternoon, as i said they had roughly an hour of a more or less meet and greet and explanation of the criminal Justice Process and how this is going to proceed. From here, weve already requested investigative material from the Attorney General and the private counsel that they had hired out. Were waiting to review what comes back, as well as the District Attorney from albany and i believe theres several other District Attorneys involved in this at this point. Our focus is right here. And then at that point well review that data, at some point were going to have our victim back in for probably a very lengthy interview. It could be a series of interviews. And at that point, depending on the facts and circumstances, well sit down with the District Attorney and make a decision to move forward with a criminal charge. [ Inaudible Question ] based on again, im really on the peripherals of this, but it would probably be a misdemeanor, possibly a couple. [ Inaudible Question ] well, youre being very presumptuous as well. I think weve all read the Attorney Generals report. I think we all know whats in it. At this point im very comfortable in saying that she is, in fact, a victim, and again i commend all of them for coming forward. This is a very tough time for something that you know is going to put a lot of Stress And Pressure on a victim. I give them all the credit in the world. One of the main parts of this particular allegation was the fact that executive Assistant Number one is anonymous. That being said, what do you think is or should be the role of the media as it relates to this . Listen, i obviously want to protect all of the victims. We spend hours of training and learning how to handle victims and theyve had a lot of stress put on them. Theyve been through a rough period of time. The last thing i want to do is continue to revictimize. I think every time their faces Pop Up on tv or their names are mentioned on tv or radio, it does, in fact, probably put more stressors on people. I know that everybody wants to know whats going on and its your job to report that. I just think at some point showing the pictures and things like that, enough is enough. Do you think she needs to maintain anonymity to protect the investigation . I would like to see that but i cannot tell her to do that or not to do that. Do you think it will be revealed over time as a function of the judicial process . Yes. [ Inaudible Question ] not at this point. But, again, we got this complaint thursday night, thursday afternoon. [ Inaudible Question ] it would be premature for me to answer that regarding questioning him, but, yes, it could lead to an arrest. [ Inaudible Question ] would our agency be effecting that arrest . Absolutely. [ Inaudible Question ] i would rather not get into that. The albany Police Department does have some small involvement in this. Is this going to be at some point a joint investigation because of the Overlapping Jurisdiction . Im not sure what their involvement is in this. Our investigation is partnered up with the albany county District Attorney and david and i have had a couple of conversations and bounced a few messages back and forth as a result. How it expands, i cannot answer that at this point. [ Inaudible Question ] well, i would think living in a digital age we could get it expeditiously but im not confident of that. Im hopeful well have it by the latter part of this week [ Inaudible Question ] we may. It all depends how the investigation unfolds. I think as far as investigations and forensics, im very confident in the men and women that work for me. But we may use the lab at some point. A Reoccurring Theme from the administration as a whole is that a lot of this has just been political in nature and motivation. How can you reassure those who are questioning whether or not this is politically motivated . Politically motivated from your office. From my office . Well, i can tell you, darrell, that i had a female victim come forward which had to be the hardest thing shes ever done in her life and make an allegation of criminal conduct against the governor. I think as far as the sheriffs office, i am elected as well. I think that we have a proven record in this area, in this region, of helping people, taking care of people, and i think thats what were supposed to do with law enforcement. I think thats what were supposed to do in government, take care of people. I have a young lady who came in alleging she was victimized and were going to do everything in our powers to help her. [ Inaudible Question ] so we will share information back and forth. We may enlist the help of their investigators. He has seven to ten investigators over there as well. We may have to partner up to do some interviews or something to that effect. But ultimately its welcoming to have the District Attorney involved on the foundation. Theyre very familiar with the investigation going forward, they know the facts, and youre not in the eleventh hour trying to push a case on him and expecting them to make a quick decision. [ Inaudible Question ] i have no timeline on that whatsoever. Again, were not going to rush this because of who he is, were not going to delay it because of who he is. Were going to conduct a very comprehensive investigation. When all the facts and data and evidence is compiled, well make a decision at that point. [ Inaudible Question ] yes, we do. I would rather not disclose exactly what we need, but we need more than just information from the Attorney General. And dont forget there will be an interview conducted at some point with our victim. [ Inaudible Question ] in addition to the identity, i was asked by our District Attorney not to release it at this point until we have an additional meeting to discuss exactly what were going to be able to gather. We didnt want to have singular pieces of paper out and about. Were going to keep Everything Inhouse at this point. When will you be meeting . Im hopeful it could be tomorrow, but it could be monday or tuesday at this point. If the allegations are born out to be true, can you tell us if that would be within the confines of a Misdemeanor Or Felony . I dont think that would be proper for me to answer at this point. What i have read so far, i can say that were floating around a misdemeanor, but, again, thats just from the Attorney Generals report. We havent had an indepth interview with her. [ Inaudible Question ] im sorry . [ Inaudible Question ] i did not watch any of that. [ Inaudible Question ] excuse me . I cant understand. [ Inaudible Question ] it would be improper for me to answer that right now. Is it safe to assume that you are protected as far as retaliation from the administration, or do you think that theres a chance that the administration, meaning the cuomo administration, would retaliate against you, as there have been ongoing rumors of that . Im the county sheriff. Im not going to be intimidated or coerced. That would not play out well for anybody. [ Inaudible Question ] its a group of investigators that are trained to handle sexual assault investigations, as well as regular criminal investigations. Theyre very well trained, theyre very professional and theyre very thorough. [ Inaudible Question ] we only have two or three that do specific sexual victim investigations, but they have unlimited resources of other investigators. [ Inaudible Question ] ultimately that would be my office, but i would hope that were in agreement with the District Attorney. Listen, if you dont have the backing of your District Attorney, its relatively moot to move forward. [ Inaudible Question ] i would rather not answer that at this time, just to keep things from being convoluted. Anybody else . When can we expect the next Press Conference or update, or do you not know . I do not know. Again, this complaint came in thursday afternoon. I was unreachable yesterday. We will be sitting down after this and having a meeting with our command staff, come up with a strategic plan, and then we will also confer with the District Attorneys office and commence our investigation. Will you and the District Attorney be doing the interviews together . In all likelihood, yes. And i need to talk to david about some of the other District Attorneys. Ive seen theres four or five other District Attorneys seeking information. Again, i dont think we need to have a roomful of people to sit down and interview our victim, so well have to go over the logistics of that. [ Inaudible Question ] i believe david is waiting for the ags materials as well. Its kind of a race right now to see who is getting it the quickest. [ Inaudible Question ] whatever is going on up there is none of my concern. Were seeking investigative material and additional reports from the Attorney Generals office, and those who conducted the investigation. Whats happening on Eagle Street is none of my concern. Were worried about our victim and our investigation. I know you said youre not giving dates, but for executive assistant one there were multiple incidents that were documented. Any concern about the statute of limitations on any of these . The Attorney Generals report has dates. [ inaudible ] none whatsoever. Again, i Thank You for coming out. I hate to break up your saturday. But, again, were just starting to get moving here. So Thank You all for coming. Everybody, welcome back to Alex Whit reports. We have just been listening to a Press Conference, the albany county sheriff, craig apple, talking about the first criminal complaint thats been filed in the Sexual Harassment allegations against new York Governor Andrew Cuomo. We know Nbc News is reporting that this is a complaint filed from executive assistant one alleging an incident back in november of 2020, in which she says the governor reached under her shirt and groped her, which the governor denies. I want to get to kathy park, and our Political Analyst who knows a lot about this office, as she worked there. One of the things that really stuck out to me was the one of the reporters asking the sheriff, you keep referring to this person as a victim, and he said, right now, hes read the Ags Report and he said hes comfortable saying she is a victim, saying its the hardest thing shes done in her life to make an allegation against the governor. What else did we learn that tells us about the process moving forward . Reporter well, lindsey, it sounds like, according to the sheriff, that right now this investigation is certainly in its infancy and they do need to interview the victim again and they will be reaching out to her. Meanwhile, they will also be linking up with the Das Office to move forward with the investigation. Obviously there were a lot of questions about this process, a lot that the sheriff could not answer, but moving forward he said that this is going to be a Factfinding Process and because this is the governor, they will not expedite this process because of that or slow it down. This is something that they will do regardless of his title and follow the procedure as it lays in the county as well as the state. But as you mentioned, this is a complaint that was filed on thursday by executive Assistant Number one that was the label given to her according to the Ag Report released just a couple of days ago. She alleged that the governor touched her inappropriately back in november of 2020, something that the governor has vehemently denied. She said that this is a crime and also on friday, as you know, this continues to evolve surrounding the governor, and we heard from governor cuomos legal team and they pretty much said that the Ag Report they slammed the Ag Report saying it was onesided. Take a listen to this. To the extent that the assembly wants to move forward, to the extent they want to move forward with impeachment, you now have an impossible standard for us because we are not given access to the evidence. Reporter so governor cuomos legal team is asking for more transparency and theyre asking for the transcripts of all of the witnesses who came forward to provide information in this Ag Report. The Attorney Generals office said they will be providing a redacted version of these transcripts to state lawmakers. Meanwhile, governor cuomo, you might be wondering what is his next move, where is he right now. According to the ap, there were images that surfaced not too long ago. He is in albany. It looked like he was on his property, preoccupied by his phone. On monday, i can tell you that the Judiciary Committee will be coming together to look into the next steps as far as the impeachment goes, and he has until friday to share any more information in his defense. Big developments there on monday. And then the sheriff also saying after they get those documents from the ag and the private investigator, theyll bring the alleged victim back in to interview her. Kathy park, Thank You. I want to bring in republican Strategist And Msnbc Political Analyst. You worked with governor cuomo. In fact, you wrote an oped. Were going to show it on the screen now. You wrote it for Nbc News think. The new allegations made you rethink your own albany experience. What is your reaction now that this is rising to the level of a criminal complaint . There is something very different about the criminal complaint, which his lawyers will attack differently, versus the Impeachment Process. Thats political. Now, what i witnessed firsthand is a Government Operation that was also very political in the way they operated, they bullied, they retaliated, and they did things as if there were no consequences for their actions, which now they are starting to realize that the governor has no friends, No One backing him up now. He is literally on an island. So when i look at the whole experience, i look at the fact that what happened in that office that i witnessed, and lets be clear, i didnt i was not sexually harassed, i didnt see it. But everything else allowed for this kind of environment to fester and needs to be called out at every turn. Yeah, you mentioned the atmosphere, the hostility. And democrats right now are almost unanimously calling on cuomo to resign. The island that you were talking about. We heard, in fact, the sheriff was just asked, do you worry about retaliation, and the sheriff was, like, im the sheriff, im not worried about it, ive got this. What do you think how much of the Impeachment Process do you think is related to this culture that were learning about, this alleged culture . Theres some, but lets not make any mistake about it. All of the democrats are speaking out now about how horrible it is the culture existed. They all witnessed it for decades and they never spoke up. In some ways, they are part of the perpetuation of this environment. It was one assemblyman back in february, assemblyman kim, who, quote, had the audacity to actually speak truth to power, call out the Governors Secretary on some comments about nursing homes, and then the governor threatened and bullied him and kim didnt back down. He went forward and publicized what happened. In a lot of ways, that started a crack of people talking about the culture and maybe even led to an environment where these women felt more comfortable coming forward, because people were starting to realize, at least the public was, what a bully Andrew Cuomo is. It appears that it is really resonating right now. Theres a new pole from quinnipiac saying 63 think he should be impeached. You say nobody does defiance like cuomo. We are certainly seeing that. How do you see this playing out . Most likely he resigns about a day or two before there is an Impeachment Vote on the articles to move forward. Theres a slight possibility that next friday the governor says this whole process is a Witch Hunt and im not participating and i resign. I doubt that will happen. One thing i would also like to note, though, is that the governor has really brought out his inner trump in that hes attacking the investigators through his lawyers, as well as attacking and trying to discredit the accusers and victims. That is disgraceful, and i think Thats Part of the reason why you see that number at 70 . Thank you so much for joining us. Were lucky to get to hear from somebody who has been inside. We appreciate it. We want to get to more Breaking News right now. Vice president Kamala Harris arriving at Capitol Hill in just the last hour. That was video of her exiting her car and entering the building. Shes expected to take part in meetings this afternoon on that big bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. The senate is in session right now as they work to pass the more than 1 Trillion package. Msnbcs Ali Vitali joins us live right now. Any reporting on why Vice President harris is there and what are we expecting to hear in the next couple of hours . Reporter her team says shes here to talk with other senators about the ongoing push to pass this infrastructure package. This is the second weekend that weve had a rare busy saturday, and likely a busy sunday coming. Last weekend senators were up here on The Hill just waiting for the text of the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. This weekend its waiting for them to figure out which path they move forward with as they try to push it through. Theres two ways that they can do this, as we heard from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer just about an hour ago. Hes looking at it as, theres an easy way and theres a hard way. Listen to how he put it. We can get this done the easy way or The Hard Way. In any case, the senate will stay in session until we finish our work. Its up to my republican colleagues how long it takes. Reporter so when Senator Schumer there says theres an easy way and a hard way, the easy way is what he and other democrats would likely prefer to do, which is an expedited process that goes outside of the timing bounds of regular order. The only way they can do that, though, is if all 100 senators agree on a way to move forward specifically as it relates to voting on amendments before they actually get to voting on the final version of this bill. Right now they dont have full agreement on that. So what were seeing happen on the Senate Floor right now is the first of these procedural votes. They look like theyre on track to get to the 60 that are going to be needed to then get to a round of debate. But thats The Hard Way of going about this if youre going by chuck schumers standards. The hard way is going by regular order and that means youve got a few more rounds of procedural votes and more time up for debating amendments. It just means a longer process. Democrats have long said they wanted to get this done as soon as possible. Schumer previously had been bullish that he wanted this bill passed before the weekend. Obviously that timing doesnt work out. But its not really a question of if at this point, its when. The only real clock, lindsey, that were up against is whether or not they would like to go on recess sooner or later. Im looking at the live Senate Feed right now that you cant see. If we can pop it back up. It looks like Senator Susan collins is talking. I cant recognize the other two. I also saw Senator Dianne Feinstein and they have their purses on. Are they coming or going . Reporter people are really just in and out today. What they know is about to happen is that they have to be near the floor. There are votes that are happening. So it makes sense that theyre going in and out of the chamber. They dont need to stay static in there. At the same time, thats why we may have purses out and it may look like people are in transit. People are milling about the Senate Today and when im not here with you, ill be trying to find them and talk to them about whats going on in the interim period. Flag us when you get anything. When you use the term longer process, well see. Well check back in a little bit. Now we want to get to the latest on the Coronavirus Pandemic and the cdc is reporting that half of the u. S. Population is now fully vaccinated. Even as the number of cases in the u. S. Sets records in some states. You can see here on your screen the upward trajectory of infections across the country right now. Florida added 22,783 new cases in the last 24 hours. Its highest singleday count. Heres a look at the nationwide picture. More than 35 Million confirmed cases. Despite all of this, weve got big events this weekend around the country, like in sturgis, south dakota, bikers are swarming the area for their motorcycle rally. Hundreds of thousands are expected there. And officials are bracing now for the potential of a superspreader event. Joining me right now is dr. Rick bright, an immunologist and virologist and senior Vice President of the Pandemic Response at the rockefeller foundation. Dr. Bright, im sure that you are squirming in your seat to say i told you so in 2020, but right now give us how stark a picture this is. I mean, i want to play for you what dr. Fauci recently said, a new warning, of course, as were seeing the Delta Variant. He says its going to get worse. Lets listen. As long as the virus continues to spread, you give it ample opportunity to mutate, and when you give it ample opportunity to mutate, you may sooner or later get another variant, and it is possible that that variant might be in some respects worse than the already very difficult variant were dealing with now, which is a major reason why you want to completely suppress the circulation of the virus in the community. Doctor, what are we looking like for the next couple of months . Lindsey, Thank You for having me on today. Dr. Fauci is exactly right. This Delta Variant, first of all, is attacking us from every angle. It is spreading rapidly. Mostly among unvaccinated people. It is causing really severe illness and death. The sadder part of it is its also infecting more and more immunocompromised people and more and more children. So the good news is that the White House said last week that more vaccinations were administered in this last month than we have recently, so were increasing the rate of vaccination. And we need to keep vaccinating more and more people and Masking And Testing and social distancing to get ahead of the variant. Dr. Fauci mentioned the potential for new mutants to evolve. Im a virologist and i have studied viruses my entire career. I can tell you the next variant is already here. Its already lurking under the radar and we need to be watching it very closely. And honestly, were not doing a very good job of that. That is why im leading an effort called the Pandemic Prevention Institute to get more information about these variants from Vaccine Breakthrough cases so we can get in front of this virus once and for all. My biggest fear is that one of those variants that you said is already here or days away from mutating, that it could be really a formidable opponent to our vaccines. You mentioned right now a lot of the immunocompromised are being affected. I want to ask you about Booster Shots because the fda said yesterday its going to Fast Track boosters or Immunocompromised Americans and moderna said this week americans will likely need a boost before winter. Right now maybe you can give us the different kinds of people who will be affected. At some point are we all going to need a booster . I want to be clear, the vaccines we have right now are very effective and effective against the Delta Variant. Vaccinated people are much better protected against hospitalization and death. Theres a report thats coming out, i saw on the news yesterday, about a large clinical study in south africa, 480,000 health workers, one Shot Johnson Johnson vaccine, and it showed to be 96 effective against death, against the Delta Variant. So for right now i do not believe we need to be boosting people who already responded quite well to the vaccine. But its important to note that theres a significant part of our population, a large group of people, who dont respond well. Theyre immunocompromised because they had an Organ Transplant or theyre getting Cancer Treatments or they have hiv. These people did not respond to the regular Onedose J J or two doses of Messenger Mrna vaccines. They need an additional dose. When you say they didnt respond, do you mean they dont have the same Antibody Level that, for example, another person, a healthy young person might develop after a vaccine . Thats what were seeing. Were seeing after the regular course of vaccination, their Antibody Levels arent as high as those that are healthy. So the extra dose of vaccine will help them respond and have robust immunity against the virus. Its really important to get the right dosing regimen for people who are immunocompromised who are vulnerable, but that doesnt mean for all of us. Honestly, it means to me that we should be vaccinating more people around the world to get more people around the world more fully vaccinated, than it is to be focusing on a third dose of vaccine for people who may not need it right now. Sounds like you agree with the World Health Organization on that in getting more people around the world just one shot at least. Doctor, Thank You so much. Im going to take your advice, worry about just the delta right now, that the vaccine is doing a good job up against it and not worry about the others we have yet to see. Thanks for your time. The senate is on track to vote on that bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, possibly this afternoon. So if it passes, what does the Battle Look Like In The House . Thats next. Someone once told me, that i should get used to people staring. So i did. Its okay, you can stare. When youre a twotime gold medalist, it comes with the territory. More on the Breaking News in washington. The senate is convening for the second saturday in a row in hopes of passing that more than 1 Trillion infrastructure package. This is a live look right now, the senate is holding a procedural vote on whether to end debate on the bill. Were going to continue monitoring this for any developments. Also new today, another republican has been added to the January 6th select committee staff. Former Gop Congressman Denver riggleman is joining as a senior technical adviser. Riggleman tweeting this video, stressing how the investigation is not a matter of partisan politics. We Cant Worry about the color of the jerseys or whether they have an R Or D next to our name, its time for us to look in a factbased way on what happened January 6th. Two men became the first to be charged to plead guilty to assaulting police officers. A new Jersey Gym Owner and a man from Washington State could face three to five years in prison, potentially setting benchmarks for the dozens of others charged with assaulting officers could face if they cooperate. Were keeping a close eye in texas, where in just about 25 minutes the State Legislature will begin its second special session. Notably absent, the 57 house democrats who left the state weeks ago to block the restrictive voting bill. Joining me is tennessee congressman, a member of the House Judiciary and transportation committees. Happy saturday to you and thanks for being with us. Obviously infrastructure, transportation, both issues near and dear to your heart. If the senate gets to this the finish line, do you think if a vote were held in the house right now, it would pass . I dont think it would have enough votes right now. There are a lot of matters that were considered and added to the house bill. We passed the invest act a long time ago concerning Climate Change, concerning diversification of our utility system, our grid, complete streets and some other items, are not included in the senate bill. But well have to see after they vote on the amendments how it stands. Peter defazio did some outstanding work and our committee did in having a progressive 21th seven century Transportation Bill. It might need to go to congress and have some of the house Add Priorities to the bill. Correct me if im wrong. I thought they would be done separately. You have the Infrastructure Bill and then the human structure, Climate Change, child care, that would be in Budget Reconciliation. Is that still the plan right now, that you want to do them together, knowing Budget Reconciliation doesnt need, for example, 60 votes to pass, you can just do it just democrats going alone . Thats true, but Climate Change is also part of the Transportation Bill. Theres hardly anything that causes as much problems with the climate as automobile usage, gasoline automobile usage, and usage of airplanes, et cetera, et cetera. Transportation contributes a great deal to the ozone layer, and that was in the Transportation Bill. Theres some things in the building back better bill that include that, too. But there was a lot in the Transportation Bill that made sense. We had a lot more helping us get to Electric Vehicles and highspeed rail. But the ideas that they will be considering are together, but they will also be considered with house input. We are an equal branch of government with the senate. Theres a house and a senate and the houses work should be considered and we should not just have a take it or leave it with the senate. And thats possibly what were going to be faced with. It would be better to go to conference if we have differences, and i think we do have differences, just sort those out and hopefully the senate would be able to maintain 60 votes to pass the Transportation Bill. Now, the build back better is a 50 vote in the senate and a 217 or whatever majority would be in the house, and thats a different situation. So then if correct me if im wrong, congressman, but that would mean that if this more than 1 Trillion is passed in the senate, it goes back to the house, the house adds more spending and it would go back to the senate and youre confident there will be 60 votes there . Not necessarily more spending. We might change priorities and put more emphasis on 21st Century Transportation systems, where we may have more in Transit And Rail than roads and bridges, and it may just be the same amount of money. Youve got roads, bridges, airports and ports, Broadband And Water and infrastructure that carries water and pipes. Youve got a lot in the bill. But theres a lot of policy in there, too, and thats why theyve got 125 amendments in the senate. Some of them will take care of the concerns the house has and some wont. Well have to see what it looks like in The End. The house should be an equal branch and we need to express ourselves and work together to get a bill. Congressman cohen, Thank You so much for coming on and talking about this Breaking News. We hope to have you back on to give us an update as well. Breaking news also, out of california. Thousands of firefighters are working to contain the nations biggest wildfire. Were talking about the Dixie Fire. It shows no signs of slowing down. Hes going to be sending one of his police friends to your front door, to knock on the door, take down your name, address, your Family Members names, your phone numbers, probably ask for your social Security Number and whether youve taken the vaccine or not. What they dont know is in the south, we all love our second amendment rights. [ applause ] and were not really big on strangers showing up on our front door, are we . They might not like the welcome they get. Joining me right now is political Strategist And Biden campaign consultant, Usa Today Contributor and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee adviser. I should know that the Media Wasnt allowed in that event that took place in late july. I was talking this morning on msnbc with a Peace Corps Volunteer going Door To door in virginia to educate people about their vaccines and this is something that she could encounter. You know, im so grateful to the volunteer you spoke to because thats my home state, virginia. We have states where we do see high Vaccination Rates but Rural Areas that do not have high Vaccination Rates. Somewhere particularly like alabama, southern states, Rural Areas, we know how they are politically, this rhetoric is extremely dangerous. Were trying to save peoples lives. Literally trying to save peoples lives just to get vaccinated with a proven, safe vaccine, and yet she wants to use this rhetoric to use a gun for someone who is trying to save our lives. And i think this is really reminiscent of what we saw at the beginning of the pandemic when President Trump was playing it down, was ratcheting up crazy rhetoric and were seeing a lot of republican condone this. So its really scary and i feel for the volunteers who are literally just trying to save more lives and are being threatened like this. The crowd also cheered when she mentioned the states low Vaccination Rate. Is that something to applaud . Time and again were seeing the extremists and radical elements of the republican party do the unthinkable, which is put their own voters in danger. Theyre playing Russian Roulette with their lives and cheering them on at the same time. And i would like to know what the called leadership in congress like Kevin Mccarthy is going to do about one of his own members going out there and advocating for people to shoot and kill and hurt and perpetrate violence against people who are trying to do their civic duty. This is deranged, this is dangerous, and the one thing that we know, after what happened on January 6th, Republicans Cant Hide behind the idea that its just empty rhetoric, its just for effect. Its entertainment. No, we know that their people, they live and breathe by the words of what these guys say and they take it very seriously and very literally. And after what we saw on January 6th with people incited by the rhetoric of republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump and the majority of the republican party, going out and giving these kind of Marching Orders can result in violence, can result in mayhem, can result in very dangerous and just mindblowing consequences, and i want to know what the republican leadership is going to do about this. Its not just Marjorie Taylor Greene. Congressman hawthorne, lets listen to what he recently said. You have sacrificed the social, emotional and psychological development of our children on the altar of wokeness, forcing our children to wear masks is nothing sort of psychological child abuse, period. We have schools starting across the country. That message is very different from parents, you can make your own decisions. I cannot control my emotions. The fact that we have children, and you all have had doctors on this station talking about how were seeing the rise not only the rise in covid cases in children, but particularly more dangerous. Were seeing children in icus, and now theyre playing this political rhetoric around some freedom when its a public Health Emergency and our children need to be protected. The people that are in the Schools Day in and day out need to be protected. And so this want to be oppressed because of the mask mandate, im sorry, as a descendant of unslavd people in this country, i promise you that wearing a mask is not oppressive and i promise you that taking this vaccine which has had years and years of study is actually not going to hurt people. Curt, i dont know how youre going to follow up on what alenci just said. Florida schools are prevented from doing their own Mask Mandates and a lot of people are accusing Ron Desantis of putting kids lives at risk because he has future president ial aspirations. Do you see that as what hes doing . He is, and, again, i dont understand the quote unquote logic of someone thats running for president in 2024 presumptively thinking that the best thing to do is to have his voters go out and die. I dont see the logic at all. And i love these republicans who like to hide behind the idea of personal Freedom And Liberty to validate their antimask, antivaccine, antipublic Health And Science decisions. If youre a woman who wants to make a decision with her body, its okay to have the government tell you what you can or cant do. After the Terrorist Attacks when they were using every element of the government and do the patriot act, they were okay with that back then. This party has clung to ideas and notions and are now hiding behind them to put us in danger. I combined your titles in the beginning. Alencia, political Strategist And Campaign consultant, and democratic congressional committee adviser. Thank you so much for this conversation. America is getting back to work. Employers last month added the most jobs since last august, but theres a big caveat that seems to suggest the economy is not out of the woods just yet. For the love of people. For the love of community. For the love of progress. Citi. Now to this weeks good news on the jobs front. 943,000 jobs were added in july, pushing the Unemployment Rate down to 5. 4 . And President Biden is taking a victory lap. While our economy is far from complete and while we will have ups and downs along the way as we continue to battle the Delta Surge of covid, what is indisputable now is this, the Biden Plan is working, the Biden Plan produces results, and the Biden Plan is moving the country forward. Joining us right now, austin golsby, economic professor at Chicagos Booth School of Business And Chairman during the obama administration. We saw impressive numbers in june and july. What does this tell you . We keep hearing from restaurants, Business Owners that cant get people to come back to work. Do these numbers paint a different picture . It seems like they painted a different picture. This month and last month together, that might be the best twomonth package in the history of The American job market. We added almost 1 Million jobs each month and the hiring was the greatest in exactly the Leisure And Hospitality sectors. So i think we have seen in the last two months that when places start paying higher wages, they actually are able to get a lot of people to show up. You know, i went on your Twitter Today and you said, look, all these Jobs Numbers are great, but coronavirus is the boss. We obviously see the Delta Variant wreaking havoc across the country. Whats your prediction on where were going here economywise . Well, look, i desperately hope that we get control of the spread of the virus, but ive been saying since march of last year that the virus is the boss, and if the virus starts raging Out Of Control again, such that people get nervous, and they dont want to go out because they think they might get the disease, we will see that in a slowdown in growth. That is exactly what happened, if you remember, at The End of last year in november, december, january, the virus surged back again and previous to that we had job growth, it actually went down to zero and negative. So i hope that doesnt happen, but weve got to get off our duffs. We do not want to mess this up, the progress that we made with vaccinations. Youve got to get the Vaccination Rate higher. Other than encouraging vaccinations, maybe even some of the mandates that the federal government is looking at, if you were advising President Biden on what to do to keep up this momentum, and we know the investment in the covid relief plan, we know the investment in the Infrastructure Bill, how else would you advise him on what steps to take next . I mean, the most important thing to think about is the economy wants to come back. People want to go back out to restaurants, they want to fly on airplanes, they want to take the vacations that they havent taken for a year and a half. They want to go back to work. To mostly were just trying to control the virus so that the economy can get back to normal. Now, i have been a big fan for many years of investments in infrastructure, and im a fan of the infrastructure, both of the bills. The important thing to recognize is those are tenyear packages that are about making big investments that the country has neglected for a long time. Those arent really about turning us around in the next couple of months. In the next couple of months, by far the most important thing is to try to reduce the rate of spread of that virus and to not mess up anything else. Short run, immediate increases in the interest rate, or big cuts or washington disfunction, shutting the government, things like that would throw us off the path in a disturbing way. The top line, dont mess it up. Thank you so much for your time. Holder not holding back. The former Ag Blasting trumps efforts to pressure the doj in our next hour. Elicious ble was microwaved . Theres a lot of buzz words that are thrown around, but effectively what you and i were talking about last hour, which was senators in the Chamber Voting on a procedural vote to advance to basically 30 hours of debate about this bill that has been pending here in the halls of congress for some weeks
