Im doing today. Biden is just one of many democratic politicians in federal, state and local positions who now say cuomo can no longer remain in office. State Attorney General Letitia James issued her report following a fivemonthlong investigation. It paints a picture of inappropriate behavior. He sexually harassed current and state employees in violation of both federal and state laws. The independent investigation found that Governor Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, many of whom were young women. By engaging in unwanted groping, kisses, hugging, and by making inappropriate comments. The governor and his senior team took actions to retaliate against at least one former employee for coming forward with her story, her truth. Governor Cuomos Administration fostered a toxic workplace that enabled harassment and created a hostile Work Environment where staffers did not feel comfortable coming forward with complaints about Sexual Harassment due to a climate of fear and given the power dynamics. The investigation was launched after multiple women accused cuomo earlier this year of unwelcomed comments. One of the many encounters laid out in the report describes cuomo embracing an Executive Assistant and reaching under her blouse to grab her breast. Another involved a new York State trooper assigned to Cuomos Security Detail whose allegations had not been previously reported. The governor also several times inappropriately touched a State Trooper assigned to the unit to protect the governor. In an elevator while standing behind the trooper, he ran his finger from her neck down her spine and said, hey, you. Another time she was standing holding the door open for the governor. As he passed, he took his open hand and ran it across her stomach from her Belly Button to the hip where she keeps her gun. The touching incidents, The One where he touched her stomach was witnessed by another State Trooper who confirmed it to us. The kiss of the the governor kissed her once. That was confirmed to us by another State Trooper. The Attorney Generals Investigate Team says it reviewed more than 74,000 pieces of evidence and interviewed 179 people. The governor denies the allegations. And this afternoon, he issued this Prerecorded Rebuttal complete with photos he included of people hugging and kissing. I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances. I am 63 years old. I have lived my entire adult Life in public view. That is just not who i am and thats not who i have ever been. I do kiss people on the forehead. I do kiss people on the cheek. We are living in a superheated, if not toxic, political environment. Politics and bias are interwoven throughout every aspect of this situation. For those who are using this moment to score political points or seek publicity or personal gain, i say they actually discredit the legitimate Sexual Harassment victims that the law was designed to protect. Andrew cuomo is now under criminal investigation. The new York Prosecutor has requested material from the State Attorney Generals Office and hes encouraging other victims to come forward. The allegations early on certainly led myself and other prosecutors with concurrent jurisdiction to believe that criminal activity, in fact, had taken place. But we will conduct our own independent investigation. It will be done expeditiously and we will arrive at those conclusions. Were following new Developments Tonight in the effort to stop the Covid Delta Variant which continues to drive up infections in several states. The New York times reports the fda is speeding up its timetable for full approval of the Pfizer Vaccine with a goal of completing the process by the beginning of next month. The times quotes a source saying the unofficial deadline is labor day or sooner. Fda approval would likely trigger vaccination mandates. Tyson foods joined the list of companies requiring vaccines for its more than 139,000 employees. And new York City became the first to require proof of vaccination. President biden made it clear he supports actions by businesses and officials to try to curb the spread of the virus. I will have their back and is the backs of other private, Public Sector leaders if they take such steps. But others have the declined to step up. I find it disappointing. Worst of all, some State Officials are passing laws or signing orders that forbid people from doing the right thing. As of now, seven states not only ban Mask Mandates, but also ban them in their school districts. I say to these governors, please help. If youre not going to help, at least get out of the way. In a Television Conversation with the new York State assembly speaker, cuomo insisted he wouldnt Leave Office and told the speaker he needed to work fellow democrats and garner enough votes to stop an impeachment. For those who dont live in New York and arent familiar with Andrew Cuomos ways, what does that tell us about who he is as a political figure and how hes operated particularly within the democratic party. Chris, Governor Cuomo is spoiling for a fight, clearly. Hes a political island tonight. He has virtually no support from within his own party. President biden, obviously, is calling for him to resign. So too is every member of the New York congressional delegation, many leaders of the new York State legislature and Impeachment Proceedings are due to begin in due course and quickly in albany. He may be forced out of office but hes not taking the hint and resigning gracefully as most democratic leaders would like to see him do. And in a way, hes acting very trumpian. This is the same way that Donald Trump handled so many controversies in his presidency. He denied any wrongdoing and would hope people would forget and he would stay in Office And Charge ahead. Thats what cuomo is trying to do in New York. It may not work, however, because again, we should underscore that hes an isolated political figure tonight, has no support in his party. You asked the President Today about possible prosecution for cuomo. Talk about their relationship over the years. Wasnt there even talk at one time that he might join the administration . Thats right. And these were two men who have known Each Other for a long, long time. But President Biden made clear in an Interview Way back in march that if there were allegations that were corroborated and that the governor was bound to actually have sexually assaulted, sexually harassed women, then he would call for his resignation and President Biden added that hell probably also be prosecuted. Thats what he said in march, which is why i was pressing President Biden to say, well, do you think that these women should get justice in the form of a prosecution against the governor. But the president said, in fact, that he had not read the entire report and would reserve comment on that. The big picture here is exactly what phil was talking about. Its this idea that because after former President Trump, there are so many people who think maybe i can hold on. Lets remember that the former president had dozens and dozens of women come out with their names saying that they had been sexually assaulted, even raped by the former president and he continued to have political power. He continues to have political Power Right here in the Republican Party. The issue with Andrew Cuomo is that democrats have made fighting back against Sexual Assault a Core Part of their ideal. And youre seeing senators and House Speaker Nancy pelosi, the president , chuck schumer, all of these democrats saying this governor has to go. So, i think, Andrew Cuomo is absolutely isolated. He is in a party that has said that theyre not going to stand for this sort of behavior and as a result its going to be very, very hard for the governor to stay of course, there are people that i talked to who say they dont imagine him resigning because of the fact that hes had this sort of bullish personality where he doesnt want to give up a fight. We could see the governor impeached, possibly. There was nobody who watched his pretaped Response Today who planned to do anything but fight this. He denied everything. Cynthia, we heard cuomo address a few accusers in those comments and one of them, Charlotte Bennett spoke to nora odonnell. Do you think hes gaslighting you . Absolutely. Hes trying to justify himself by making me out to be someone who cant tell the difference between Sexual Harassment and mentorship. He sexually harassed me. I am not confused. At one point, he said that he was trying to help you work through a difficult time. Did that seem like that was his intention . No. His intention was trying to sleep with me. So, cynthia, in that Prerecorded Rebuttal, cuomo said he was trying to help her because she was a survivor of Sexual Assault. What do you make of how he responded today . I think it was gutless. He didnt have the guts to take questions from reporters. And he had this prerecorded pictures of himself kissing his mother. He disgraced his Family Name which breaks my heart because i adored his father. And he will eventually be sued for Sexual Harassment civilly. And he will be sued in his personal and official capacity and he will end up with judgments against him. Thats obviously whats going to happen. At some point, hell be out of office. I dont know, because im not a political person if that will be impeachment or resignation. But the writing is on the wall for him. About the criminal case, the da in the county is looking at it criminally. My guess would be its never prosecuted criminally. If you read the allegations, theyre Misdemeanor Assault allegations and the statute of limitations is about a year. Many are out of the statute of limitations and i would think that a Year Prosecutor with the kind of crime that they have in albany will focus on the murders, and arsons and leave the demise of the disgraced governor to the president and the entire democratic party united against him. I think when you look, again, at that rebuttal, it was part politics, part legal, you could make that argument. Im interested in what you thought about it as a legal strategy as part of that lengthy rebuttal that was released first of all, theres a Written Document Released by cuomos lawyers in response to the new York Attorney Generals Report and they included images showing other political leaders embracing people, politicians embracing him. He said Hes Someone who naturally embraces people. We saw those kinds of images in his prerecorded statement. What do you make of this as both a legal strategy and trying to win people over . Im just a friendly guy. Yeah, right. I view it as weak. I think what hes trying to do is be Joe Biden and hes not Joe Biden. He is somebody who has 11 were not talking about one or two. Were talking about 11 women who have accused him of Sexual Harassment and several of them have been corroborated by other people watching him do it. And worse, the staff was told about it in his office and they had a policy not to allow women to be alone with him. That tells you what you need to know. And the fact that hes kissed his mother in public or that biden has kissed people or that George Bush kissed people has nothing to do and its not admissible in any court in this country as to what he was doing. So i thought it was weak and a disgrace to his Family Name. It looks like this could move quickly if State Lawmakers want it to. And we could start seeing some of these Impeachment Proceedings in the fall. But in the meantime, yamiche, what should we make of Joe Bidens Comments Tonight criticizing governors for trying to block certain mandates to stop this latest Covid Surge . What we should make of it is that the president is really hes talking about and really expressing the increasing frustration of the White House with really conservative leaders who are playing to their base, but playing around with public health. When i talked to White House officials, they find it to be pretty preposterous and the president seems to find it pretty preposterous that you have leaders who are trying to tell localities, you cant even require people to wear masks, even though were living continuing to live through a pandemic, even though were seeing hospitalizations, deaths and cases go up because of the delta variant. I was told ahead of this these Remarks Today that the president was going to be more aggressive than usual because he wanted to call out and by certain states in particular, he pointed to florida and texas and said that these laws cannot stand. That these the way that theyre looking at this and really playing politics with science, that it cant be the way that we move forward. Hes saying that there are people who are dying, they dont need to die. There are people who are going to die. They dont need to die. And not encouraging people to wear masks, not encouraging people to vaccinate people just simply is not a political stance. Its not a public Policy Stance that can stand. He continues to be blunt about that, phil. So talk about the white Houses Counter in what has evolved into a Culture War with republican State Leaders over this push for getting people vaccinated and other measures, including masking in schools. Chris, theyre trying to do a couple of things at once. First of all, theyre trying to get the real science, the information, the guidance from the health experts, the medical experts out to the american people. Youve seen a steppedup public Relations Campaign from the Cdc Director but also from other leaders in the administration to communicate that mess. But youre seeing President Biden who was calling on the governors who are not going to help save lives in their communities to step aside and to let the truth get to the people. At our hospital in louisiana, what were seeing is, were seeing the increased volume. A month ago, we had zero covid patients. Today we have ten. Our icu is full. Were a small hospital. We have an eightbed icu. Seven of those patients have covid. One of which is pregnant. And so what were also seeing is, were seeing that this is really taxing our staff. Were short on nurses. Were short of staff. And we really feel like Here We Go Again and the morale is low. And so were really struggling with the challenges that were facing right now with this pandemic. So if im there and i have a Heart Attack or i get into an accident or i am in need of the Emergency Room and maybe i have to wait and wait, whats the danger . Right now, what is happening is, what i talked about at the Press Conference was the bottleneck. What were finding is that because we dont have the staffing available, the capacity available to take Care Of patients, were having to board patients in the Emergency Room. Sometimes, two, three, four days that were having to keep patients in the Emergency Room until we can get them into a bed in our hospital. In addition to that, hospitals in the state are full. And so were unable to transfer patients out that need to be transferred out to a highlevel care. What that means for you with a Heart Attack is, when you come in, we may not have the staff available to take Care Of you. Or, you might be sitting in a Waiting Room and youre having chest pain, but because we dont have the bed available to pull you back into our emergency department, now you leave without being seen and weve found that our left without being seen patients has increased because of this. You might leave without being seen and then you go home and have a Heart Attack and pass away. Its one of those things that can make you cry is when you know that has a Health Care Provider, youre not providing the same Quality Care to patients as we did prepandemic. How do you process that or deal with that . Your job is to heal. I saw an article in the advocate saying that a hospital in Bat Batten Rouge had a Strike Unit come in . Can you get something like that . Its going to go to the larger hospitals. And thats the right thing to do. It will go to the new Orleans Hospital and that is the right thing to do. What that does for us, though, is it allows them to have more capacity to accept our patients. So maybe we can move our patients and then that gives increases our capacity for what we can take care in the hospital. But your question is a very good one about how do you deal with that. And you know, you go home and you sit down and you eat a good dinner and you go to bed and you wake up and you do it again. Because it really is about the patient. It really is not about me, its not about this pandemic. Its not about any of that. Its about that patient in that bed that i want to take Care Of. One of the things we dont have we might not have the capacity, but when we take Care Of you, were going to take Care Of you with care and compassion. Its Driving American Politics sadly. So i think there is still some influence there. But at the end of the day my guess is over time, as we get deeper into 2022, trump is going to lose a lot more races than hes used to. Hell have some wins and some losses. But at the end of the day you have to understand that that is driving so much of our politics today. And even if trump himself wanes as a figure over time, that approach to politics is not going anywhere. Based on what tim said earlier, and i very much agree with that. We have to understand that.
