I think the select committee wanted to put the political chaos that weve seen leading Up To this first hearing of the investigation of January 6th, and to put the spotlight strictly on the first person accounts from these four heroic Police Officers, and the traumatic experiences that they had banking on the fact that these would resonate with the american public. Breaking through the political War Weve seen back and forth between Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader kevin mccarthy. All eyes were trained on officers fanone, gonell, and harry dunns, and officer hodges as they provided excruciating Graphic Details of what happened that day as they as the capital was invaded by hundreds of rioters. Funneling described in Graphic Detail being beat with a metal rod, electoral shopped with a taser. Shortly thereafter he suffered from a heart attack, traumatic brain injury, and ptsd. More importantly, all these officers Sort Of rounded up their experiences and said that what was most disheartening who are the people whose lives they saved now turned against them as funnel and said, they betrayed their oath really, in trying to downplay and minimize the severity of the events that happened on January 6th. In my opinion, those officers did accomplish their goals in really telling their stories with clarity and again, some really gripping detail about what just happened. Jeremy, in many ways, weve heard some of these details before we had seen some similar videos before, but there was profound impact and seeing them all in a way that they were, and hearing those stories that had an excruciatingly difficult sameness to them, of being under attack. Whats the most important thing you heard coming out of the testimony that struck you . Chris, what struck me was the very clear and direct way that this run emotional testimony from these four heroes made clear that it was a domestic Terror Attack on democracy. It wasnt a ride that got out of control, a hyped up march on washington. This was an organized, planned, well trained, well motivated, mob violent attack, that was designed to affect the Policy Outcome that congress is considering on that day. As officer hodges did and reading the domestic terrorism, it fits it to a tee. What came out of the hearing was, the same way a Terrorism Investigation is you, have to analyze whether they were inspired by, or directed by a higher political party. That will be the challenge here for the select committee. They will analyze and keep their mind open and without judging the facts whether or not the real people high up in the government who tried to plantain instigated this domestic terrorism. So important, doctor red linger, it was raw and emotional testimony. How their families are still impacted, how they thought they might die. But there was also a request to do something. They want the facts known. I hope and know they are getting the help they need, whatever they are left with psychological trauma they need to get what they get. Hopefully they will come out of this okay. He told us today that was still the plan, but didnt provide any details of timing or what the structure of such an investigation is going to look like. Surveying the rest of these members today, after this gripping testimony, most of them didnt even watch the testimony of the four Police Officers, and few expressed little appetite in pursuing an investigation further. There were same republicans who were saying that these officers condense and and are dumb playing the events and Andrew Clyde getting into a verbal altercation with represented Representative Jamie Raskin on his claim of what happened on January 6th was comparable to potentially committed by a bunch of tourists. So jeremy, lets talk a little bit about the security. One of the parts that stood out to me, all of it was riveting, but it was when Officer Dunn talked about getting a Text Message about things that had been on Social Media about whats the plan was. As he put it, it seems to foreshadow what happened later. At the time though, we had not received any threat letters from our chain of command. Chris, i think one of the big issues that this committee will have to look at is what warnings were provided to Capital Police, to d. C. Metro police, to federal agencies, and what were the response times . That will be investigated and analyze so that an attack like this cannot happen again. Chris, the broader issue that i think the committee kicked off with today was, yes, they are gonna analyze the physical Security Posture, but the Big Lie was the reason why this all unfolded. There are several things that are really concerning. First, i think, heres the pace of what is happening. You mentioned the increase of 700 over the last several days. I can tell you, just through last week in the entire state, we had about 500 people hospitalized and we are now over 1000. I suspect, by The End of this week, we will be close to 2000. What is so upsetting about that, it doesnt have to be that way. Vaccination does prevent severe disease and almost all of these hospitalizations are occurring in people who received no vaccine. The key is to try to get people vaccinated against this really devastating surge, which is largely here being driven by the delta variant. Just to put a Punctuation Point on it if everybody was vaccinated, you would have zero or near zero patients in your hospital, suffering from covid. You can never say near zero, because some people are clearly remember the vaccines are 94 to 95 effective. You will always have a small percentage of people who are not going to be totally protected, but we also have people who have immune immune compromise. People on dialysis and receiving transplants. They dont respond so well to the vaccine, but look at other states like vermont. They have achieved astonishing amounts of Vaccine Coverage, they are not seeing anything remotely like this. The rates of Vaccine Coverage with the hospitalization, right you will see there is and completely inverse correlation. There is no question. When we look at the people in our hospital who are ill, we know most of them are not vaccinated. Probably less than over 97 are not vaccinated. Youve been saying, this other doctors have been saying it. Federal health officials have been saying this, politicians as well. Yet, alabama remains at the bottom, i think, in terms of vaccinations and the entire country. Very frustrating, how do you turn it around . Several things need to happen.
