It is supposed to be blast off day, potentially a history making moment that could be a break for the future of Space Tourism just a few hours from now, billionaire Richard Branson is supposed to take off from new mexicos Southern Desert to the edge of space, just nine days ahead, of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos lift off. Intergalactic release says this is branson getting ready aboard the company spacecraft, his team of experts offering a tantalizing glimpse of what to expect. It is quite dramatic. So, you will get pushed back in your seat. We will actually pivot them downwards, such that the vehicle pitches itself upwards. Nice and smoothly, two zero g. It feels wonderful, and you will want to get out of your seat, automatically. So strap yourself in, and experience this. When you get out of your seat, and look out at that window, for a moment it will seem like you are inside a Snow Globe, because the beautiful Silica Flakes will be around, and it is beautiful. We just heard this in the last 15 minutes, it is a 90 Minute Delay, we are looking at 10 30 eastern, about 8 30 here local time. What you are going to see is going to be nothing short of incredible and dramatic. Hopefully, what we will see in the next couple of hours is the crew starting to make its way towards an aircraft, dubbed eve. This will be that dual fuselage aircraft, it looks a little bit like a catamaran from the air. That actually carries you, it is the Space Planner that Richard Branson will be eight with his other three colleagues. Plus, two pilots. Three of the folks who will be on this have already been to space, technically. They were on the earlier flights, three others will be given wings when they reach above 50 miles, there is some controversy, we will get to that. Anyways, unity will fire its rockets for a minute, it will go almost vertical, into that sort of sub orbital space, where it will be about four minutes of weightlessness we will then do what is called a feather maneuver, which basically bends the wings of the Aircraft Back, hopefully, it will then come back down to earth. Richard branson has been waiting for this his whole life. His company has been working on this for 16 years. So a 90 Minute Delay should not be a big deal. We do not know the exact details of what it is, Tom Costello has been working this story for years things its something about winds, atmosphere, that will make sense. We talk about an airplane that will fire its rocket at 50,000 feet, trying to reach that sub ordeal space, guys it should be pretty amazing. We are still trying to figure out exactly what is the reason behind this 90 Minute Delay. There were some military experts, just last night who were saying, there was a 60 chance this launch will not happen today, because of a Weather Report they have been seeing. In the meantime, the backdrop is what appears to be a competition of sorts between two Billionaire Bros, branson and bezos. He is set for takeoff July 20th of course, talking about basis, brandon moved up his launch, to kind of be into the punch of all of this. But really, there are a lot of people looking at this and wondering, are these the right guys to be doing this sort of thing . Well, these are the guys who are in this game, right . Two of them, bezos and branson are trying to commercialize this. And it has been nothing short of trash talk, going on leading up to this about, what is space . The carmen line, as it is called is technically, according to international law, 62 miles above sea level. Richard branson will go to 55, bezos making that plane earlier, that he will go further into space, past that carmen line. There has been, in the last 24 hours, Social Media Posts backing up this trash talk, this sort of congratulatory posed we have seen from bezos. Look, if theres a Modernday Howard hughes, it is Richard Branson. The man has been doing these sort of adventurous acts his entire life, he tried to cross the atlantic three separate times in Hot Air Balloons he once landed in the arctic, 3000 miles from where he was supposed to. In his book, he talks about the first time he parachuted. He pulled the wrong cord. So this man, by his own admission says he has had 27 near misses with death. We see some posts this morning from bezos, sort of talking about him being a daredevil, wishing him the best of luck. The other thing we should say about this Space Race is Elon Musk, whether or not you think of Elon Musk as a good guy, Bad Guy or a guy with a lot of social problems, he is functioning with nasa in deep space. These two individuals, and this Billionaire Bro race, a good way of putting it, they are trying to commercialize it, this is about selling tickets for a future safe space travel. And Virgin Galactic, we have to remind viewers, has something like 600 reservations, going at about 250,000 a pop, Richard Branson told Tom Costello he hopes commercial flights will happen next year, assuming that today goes okay. And this is something he has been trying for since 2004. So, he is probably thinking, hoping it was yesterday. Kyle perry, thank you so much for launching our coverage. We are now going to bring into special guests who have been there, done that a little bit. Former astronaut and international Space Station Commander lee roy chao, also, Major General charles bolden, also a former astronaut and former nasa administrator. We are so honored to be speaking to both of you this morning, thank you for being with us. Commander we will start with you you spent half a year aboard the international space station. You have been on for Space Shuttle missions, as commander. What will it be like for branson, why is this launch so significant . For this launch is significant because it marks the First Sub Orbital Flight that was going to open up this whole opportunity for other people to basically buy tickets, and get opportunities to go. And what they will see, they will see the beauty of the earth even if its just a glimpse for a few minutes it is better than nothing. And they will get a taste of what it is like to be up in orbit. Of course, these are sub orbital flights, theyre Gonna Touch Space for four minutes and come right back down, but nonetheless, the impression, first impression i had was just how beautiful and peaceful our earth looks, and how beautiful all of the colors are. Oh my gosh, yes they will experience four minutes of weightlessness there, i am sure your Point Of View as were. Major general bolden, in addition to running the space agency, you traveled into orbit four different times aboard the Space Shuttle. So help us solve this debate here. Bezos, his team, they raised questions about whether branson is actually reaching space at all, because bransons triple pay them 50 miles of, thats where nasa considers the border of space, bezos is going to go 62 miles up to the internationally recognized border. Is either experience different . No. [laughs] simply put, no. And i think, it is theater. You know, when leroy and i flew, because nasa said 50 miles when we crossed, 50 miles, you have no idea where you are, at the time. We were considered to be astronauts than. So, it makes for good feature, good show but, The View from 50, or 62, or 100 kilometers, 80 kilometers, it is breathtaking. It is unlike anything that anyone here on the planet, would you experience. And that is the big point, to get more people to that point, where they can enjoy viewing our planet, the way that leroy and i have had the opportunity to do. And frankly, only about 600 people or so have, less than 600 people on earth have experienced that sort of thing over the years. And commander chiao, to you, i dont you are not necessarily a meteorologist, but you starting this stuff, in order to get to space and throughout. So i want to talk about the Breaking News of today, being delayed about 90 minutes. We just received words the launch will be delayed about 90 Minutes T perhaps there is a reason for this, i want you to talk me through this. This is not just a Rocket Launch where you went up into space, and it is like, we worry about the Weather Conditions for that one moment, of that one day. This is a full 90 minute experience, where you have to be concerned with the Weather Conditions, correct . That is right. So, if you are launching or boarding a rocket, a missile if you will, as i did on my fourth mission, flying above a russian soyuz rocket, you are less concerned about climate, and upper level winds and stuff like that. But when we were flying Space Shuttles, you know, we were very much paying attention to the level of winds, sometimes we would scrub a launch on a clear day, and all of the reporters would wonder why. And, you know, it might be weather overseas, on port side, upper level winds or something, we just do not know. I do not know right now what the issue is that is causing this launch delay, but since it is a winged vehicle, it is more sensitive to those upper level winds, and other factors like that. To which of course, bezos, and his crew would probably say, see . It is not a rocket like the rest of us have. It is just a plain but, to you, Major General bolden, you know, there is a Bezos Biographer who told the new York Post there are big egos at play, over here. You think . Three of the most iconic, including musk, entrepreneurs. All used to winning. Jeff is not used to being second or third, elaine is a gambler, he risked it all a number of times. What do you think of a time when we have these Billionaire Bros, going whats some people are saying they are booming their rockets up to space. Are they the right people to be leading the charge here with Space Tourism . You know, as a person who has become into this commercial space flights, space is expensive, space is risky, it is on and on. And i do not get hung up by how much money a person has, who will go fly. What i am interested in is seeing Jeff Answer which are to get their flights off so, other people can follow on. It is still going to be expensive, its not going to be any cheaper biggest Jeff Bezos, and Richard Branson the important point is to get as many people to have this experience as possible. With democrats pushing republicans doing the special session, on whether theres even any evidence of the fraud that republicans are citing as justification to take all of these measures cracking down on drivethrough voting. Denying a quorum in the texas state legislature. Now, according to the New York times, democrats considering doing the same thing to try to prevent this bill. The truth of the matter is, they are targeting because they know this disproportionately impacts people of color. Particularly brown and black but voters who are the most electric in texas. This is a bill specifically designed to be able to marginalize black and brown voters. Specifically designed, particularly around targeting houston area, where they have 24hour voting. Where they also had drivethrough voting. So, this is a effort that is targeted to marginalize black and brown voters in texas. What can you all do . I know you all were out in Force Yesterday protesting and planned to be processing again. But there is just a very limited things that you can do as protesters. Or even the legislators, the democratic legislatures in texas. Absolutely. We will be out there. We will continue to push the fight. We will continue to organize. There is a group of ministers who are actually having a prayer and a march on this thursday. But i think what we have to recognize is this is so critical. We cannot organize our way out of this. We have to add fraternal legislation to be able to protect Voting Rights a citizens in this nation. That fundamentally, even if the democrats walked out in texas, it will continue to be a political maneuver. Thats not enough. We are going to need, im hoping on tuesday, a strong Message And Assurance from the president that they are going to do everything in their power to make sure to protect Voting Rights. Including that will be ending the filibuster. I need you to get into weigh in on this story which is just absolutely incredible. It comes with curious timing. Which ill say last year, you had that Houston Man who Made Headlines after he was standing in line for more than six hours. Being the last person to vote in line on super tuesday. The truth of the matters is, the first question, why in the world a man who said that he was on his way to work which means that hes paying taxes, hes contributing. At the end of the day, what youre going to do is arrest him because hes trying to use his civil rights. Secondly, the fact of why we know that making a formerly incarcerated folks. That in itself was targeted at black foods. I was targeted to marginalize the voice of voters. I think this should open up even a larger fundamental question around how this is also hes a victim of Voter Suppression himself. What we have to do is literally put pressure. This is what republicans are using in this case as just like they did so they can make an example. One, the case of a Black Man who is actually on his way to work. That was so committed to this Country And Voting in this country, and using his agency that he stood in line for six hours. And Theres Nobody being held accountable for that. And im very we will fight for him. I hope he gets released. I dont know of anybody who would stay in line for six hours to knowingly break the law. The crew was supposed to go into eve, which is that big dual Fuselage Plane that will carry the smaller craft theyre supposed to get into even about an hour before the Countdown Sort of began, before that plane takes off. Everything is now pushed back. As weve heard previously from other majority leaders, that they could cut into the August Recess if they dont get things done. I want to repeat what that letter said from schumer. He said quote, my intention for this Work Period is for the senate to consider both the bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation and a budget resolution, with reconciliation instructions. Which is the first step for passing legislation through the reconciliation process. He goes on to say, please be advised that time is of the essence. And we have a lot of work to do. Senator should be prepared for the possibility of working long nights, weekends, and remaining in washington into the previously schedule August State Work Period. The senate is currently scheduled to head out for about five weeks starting august 9th. This all comes as that bipartisan Infrastructure Package currently does have at least 11 republican senators on board. That could pass it if all democrats in the senate are also on board. Thats a big if. We know there has been a lot of back and forth over what that package should address, and whether they can stay in line. Here we also havent heard from Senate Minority Leader Mitch Mcconnell if he feels that this framework is worthwhile. We havent got that official endorsement. So, is still a life ball. Here but House Democrats and House Speaker Nancy pelosi have been pretty intent that they are not going to address one without the other. Shes not willing to bring this for a vote from the senate, once it passes unless you see both of that bipartisan deal and the Reconciliation Package intended. Reconciliation p all right, t. We are seeing this as well, when members of the congress took a trip to the border, there was an alleged insurrection is down there with them and cpac is an interesting case. They sort of Play A Role like gate keeping, what they see as the appropriate conservative movement. So, when you have a situation where you have the leader of the oath keepers, whose members have faced charges over their alleged role in the riot, you know, i think there rates a lot of questions of these conspiracy theories groups, these farright groups are really finding a welcoming place within the mainstream republican party. But i mean, i believe, correct me if i am, wrong White Supremacists were not allowed a setback, i was kicked out. So why are some of these people walking around . Interesting question. He had a situation, for years when he shows up at Cpac And Kind of causes a ruckus. This is a guy who really has gone on the attack against the mainstream republican party, in particular, cpac and its affiliates. So you can see why he would be kicked out. On the other hand, someone like stewart rhodes, and proud boys their, activism, those guys are almost looking to be welcomed into the republican party. They are getting that reaction. These are guys who are trying to make an accommodation, they are finding a welcome home of their. I mean, you walk into a political convention, you see Qanon Theme shirts on sale, a number of speakers at cpac with ties to the movement. How do this evolve from being fringe, to now, would you say mainstream . Really, i think with so many things here, we have to look at Donald Trump, and the people, his top allies during that administration. These were people who consistently refused to reject the support of Conspiracy Theorists like qanon, obviously, the onetime Qanon Believer in congress, they did not denounce her. So now, this is spread out through the republican party. You find this situation where people are either afraid, or they just do not care about the kind of stuff that they are tacitly endorsing. You know, zachary patricio, our reporter who claimed he was harassed at cpac, it does not surprise, me i was reporting in Times Square yesterday, and someone shouted, enemy of the people. What are you hearing about his experience over there, and does it surprise you . Yes. I was talking to zach yesterday, i was facing this harassment another republican events actually, just a couple of months ago i was at a qanon convention, sort of a different thing, in dallas. I got ejected. I mean, this is really something we are starting to see more mainstream republican events like cpac having, in part because republican leaders, most likely Donald Trump, have promoted this idea that you can attack the media verbally, and it really creates a very, very hostile and sometimes dangerous environment, for extreme situations, for reporters. Just at the January 6th riot, you saw members of The Press attacked physically, and their equipment was destroyed. Yes, they were smashing the cameras and tripods.
