Beginning with the events of January 6th, at the capitol and cascading like a tsunami through State Legislatures across the nation. When you look at this combination of the legislatures and the supreme court, it is like that tide of Suppression Law that swept through the south after reconstruction. This was a Twoprong Attack with State Legislatures that were disenfranchise black voters despite what the 15th and later 19th amendments said in terms of people having access to the ballots. The other thing thats important here is that when we talk about the period of disenfranchisement and we see those Police Dogs and the civil rights movement, we sum those things up like racism. We dont take it a step further and say these southern states will particularly invest it and preventing black people from voting because thats where black people were the largest portion of the electorate. Exactly. Trying to remove people from the electorate in a way thats reminiscence now. There is a whole tide of people, an emerging majority thats interested in disenfranchise in the same reason of Jim Crow were interested in disenfranchising people. Aaron, i have been saying all along that this needs to be the Number One priority of the democratic party of Joe Biden. My fear is President Biden and harris going to mess around and find out next out if they dont take this seriously enough, we wont have a democracy to fight for. If you allow people to wipe out one way or another. From the administration, you have talked to many people in this administration, how dire is this . Is this is an Alarm Bell Situation to them or do they see this part of an overall series of policies they want to push through . How serious is this of the people you spoke in the administration. President biden and Vice President harris both understand, it was the black voters who turned out in Record Numbers who got them the roles they currently occupied. Vice president harris certainly talked about it today alma mater. We know what these bills are about. Black voters had to use to be creative in the face of 21st Century of Voter Suppression. If they dont get the message, civil rights leaders or activists continue to suppress on this. The reality that if now is the time to be a single issue voter, the single issue they need to care about is Voting Rights. The black voters that elected them want to see come to pass are going to happen. Thats on the march even as we speak, you mentioned Georgia Law and so many others that are passed in the State Legislatures. A lot of those laws took in effect of july 1st. Some of these laws are already in the books as Vice President harris pointed out. I think seeing them increasingly using the bully puppet today, this is something organizers and activists want to see. They want to see both Vice President and President Biden going further on this. The measures that were put in place last year during the pandemic led to Record Turnout across the board for republicans and democrats. There was more turnout last year than the united states had in decades. You had to understand what the republican party is trying to do right now is they dont want people to vote. Clearly last year worked for them as much as it worked for anybody else. I want to play some audio for you from one of the members talking about how important this is and what theyre facing. I will get your thoughts on the other side. My message to them is we need your help and we need it now. We need hr1. We need the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to be able to block suppress laws like the texas legislatures want to pass and other states around the country. I am seeing this hologram projection. The democrats haves done a good job of saying hey, help now, we are in the come pack, we need some help here. What should Mayor Garland should be doing . The first lawsuit in georgia, should they go to texas next or is this a larger legislation . This is all hands on deck. When you look at harris county, i am a proud native New York which is statistically the most diverse county in the united states. Harris county is right there and around houston. So there are these emerging majorities in texas and texas is really a Textbook Example of whats going on here because the legislatures had been republicans. If they go the second year, they just gerrymander and gerrymander the next time, such that they can forestall whatever happens. Texas has been the real model of what republicans are trying to do nationally. That needs to be a priority for the administration, too, particularly for the doj. I want to point this out. That is great point and well show this in another segment. If you look at some of the congressional district in texas, dan Crenshaws District is absolutely ridiculous. It is written in a way to try to suppress and choke out and limit the voices of republican voters. I want to play a sound and get your thoughts on the other side. I think it is certainly up to the president to push and pass hr1 and John Lewis Act making it as a high priority as anything else on the agenda. So, we are hearing it from the State Legislature and the caucus thats coming from the state. We see Joe Biden talking about these types of issues. We see the Money Going out. My question for you is even what Vice President harris talked about, 25 Million, where does that Money Go . Where does that Money Go that actually ends up in making a difference . You can give me 5 or 25 Million. If i only got one Polling Place in my neighborhood of 400,000 people. I dont know the 25 Million is going to necessarily change anything. Another thing, yes, the 25 Million is going to go to things like voter education, Voter Registration and turnout and also some monitoring of polls to make sure there is no shenanigans at these precincts in upcoming elections. Lets be clear, 25 Million, yes, thats a lot of money. I would not be sad to have it in my Bank Account tomorrow, p. S. 25 Million is a drop in the bucket when you think of the tsunami. And so yes, marc have said with your previous point, if texas passed these laws, they plan to sue. Lets say i have Johnson Johnson or moderna, would it be safe or dangerous for me to say you know what, why dont i go back down to the Health Center and get a third dose, is that safe . For the majority of people, if you got and walked in and got a third shot, it called cause more Side Effect and that could cause more harm so the Side Effect gets amplified. If you felt bad in the second shot, you could have stronger effect than the third one. And everything we are talking about is what i am concerned. The public is getting confusing messages when half of our country is not vaccinated. I want to ask about these increasing variants, the Delta Variant, are these variants potentially coming out like hurricanes. Are they named or are we going to get an epsilon or gamma, do we think this is a limited outgrowth . We will, we are already watching additional variants upon variants of interests. Theyre not variants of concerns like the Delta One is. Why is that . When the virus replicates, it has a chance to mutate, mutations are normal. It is the series of key mutations into other things that can make it more infectious. Thats when it becomes a Variant Concern like delta. Indonesia, 70,000 cases a day. And thats a Breathing Ground for more mutations and more of these strains. We have four state that is are hot boxes that have not done a good job. If so, the government will take the position that it will come in and substitute itself for him in any litigation and prevent him from being civilly sued. If the republicans somehow threw stacking the courts and packing Voter Suppression laws. If they took over the House And Senate next year, they would impeach Joe Biden. They would vote to impeach biden just on principles. How does that play for democrats. Does that put the fear into their feet and a lot of fire into them or do they think talking about Infrastructure And Voting rights is going to be enough to stave off what the republicans are intended to do next fall. Thats one of the differences with democrats and republicans. Democrats they tend to focus on policies and theyre wonky and nerdy at times. What we are hearing about republicans are pure power. It is not about the legislative lever that you have. It is not about negotiating and compromising. It is about power. What you can do when you have it. Thats the difference between the two parties now. There are democrats who talking about this as well. The house, joe manchin, the other big joe in washington, d. C. , hes still is operating it seems under kind of old senate rules where obstruction was not the first play that republicans were doing when people can negotiate in good faith and compromise a little bit. Thats not how the senate has been working for the last six months and for years, right . Those are different rules and so it is going to take a lot it seems for him and other moderate democrats to make moves and make changes to kind of protect the majorities that they have in congress and protect President Biden. He serves as a proxy because a lot of them dont want to say things that dont want Filibuster Reform or doing compromise above all else. When push comes to shove, they wont say anything. When you see that the head of the state republican party is also putting on this fullcourt press, do you think an investigation might lead to criminal charges, maybe not just at the federal level, but at the local level for Election Interference . Well, i certainly dont want to jump the gun, but i think its clear to everyone watching that this absolutely warrants further investigation and whatever that lead to, i think that most laypeople can look at this and say, this doesnt look right. It doesnt smell right. It seems to be interference and trying to influence the outcome. And it is against the law in arizona, and it certainly violates some federal laws too. Look, i could get cited for standing too close to a Voting Center in a Joe Biden or Kamala Harris tshirt, so i cant imagine that this, too, isnt at least worth a citation. I want to step back and talk about some of the numbers in arizona in general. I think a lot of people were very excited to see that arizona helped push Joe Biden over, but arizona is not a blue state. It is won by the thinnest of margins and some recent polling i have seen shows that many republicans there, and many voters in arizona, they would vote for Joe Biden again if he was running against trump, but if he was running against another republican, he would be in a tight race. Talk about some of the Voter Suppression laws that have been passed by republicans in the state that theyre hoping will play into being able to send that state back to the republican column in 2024. Well, i think what we have seen since the election by folks who are not happy about the outcome is an orchestrated effort to continue to undermine the integrity of elections, continue to sow doubt in confidence and to make it harder for those voters to vote. And simply because they dont like the outcome of the election. And so, you know, this is really unfortunate. Its why i have continued to stand up for the process that we oversaw in 2020, which was free and fair, and the results we certified are accurate, and why im going to continue to fight to insure access for every eligible arizona voter. And thats what i was elected to do. Im going to continue to do my job. Many people in washington, d. C. And concerned election officials around the country, republican and democrat, think the only way that you can combat the kind of laws were seeing in arizona and texas and georgia would be to reform the filibuster and pass the for the people act. Have you had conversations with senator sinema, as secretary of state, telling her or imploring her to reconsider some of her positions given how difficult its making your job and the potential impact it could have on her as well . Our office has spoken with her staff about the provisions of the for the people act that are important for arizona and to uphold Arizonians Access to the ballot, and i have made my position very publicly clear on this issue, and i will continue to do so. And i have called on every senator, republican or democrat, to do the right thing and get this through, to insure that americans all over the place have equal access to the ballot and continued access to the ballot in light of these pushbacks were seeing across the country.
