When you see these kinds of efforts to reverse elections, to move who can vote, to change who can vote to put these impediments in front of people, these are not some alien plans taking root in american republican soil. That is the point that scholars are trying to say, we have traditionally been a [inaudible] democracy. A liberal state, in the we give traumatic rights to summon not to others. The effort to turn the clock on this has a deep soil. This is not trying to make America Something that it has never been, its trying to make America Something that it has been. A true, multi ethnic democracy that we have been for the last decade since the civil rights act. That is a recent development in american politics in american society, so it is contested, younger things are more likely failures. Watch thats one of the reasons why we have to be worries about what the republicans are doing. But i am optimistic about what some democrats are doing. There is a party in this country that is currently in power, nationally, that is trying to dramatically expAnd democracy, youre not just seeing a part of a dominant power trying to choke off democracy are trying to see Joe Biden And the democrats pass bill. If they pass them, we will see. But they want to expAnd democracy in this country. That could be an optimistic friend to the story. If you hadnt drawn attention to it as you did, we they wouldve been clearly trying to hold on to this provision. But representative John Bucy, im surprised what is this . Are they actually embarrassed about it . Are they capable of embarrassment . Why are they giving up on this provision . We they run policy throws And tried to do it overtime. They thought that they do it again here. We made it clear what they were doing, And now the President Everyone is covering, this the realize how about this policy is. Theyre trying to walk it back And not own it. I think it just shows our walkout And breaking quorum is paying dividends already. Representative johnson, other legislators, georgia And, others are trying to put in these provisions about what happens after people vote. But can we do after the votes have been cast to continue to control the outcome of the election . They strike me as the most terrifying things in any of these, laws And you have managed to defeat this one in texas, as i said that must feel like a huge win at least on that provision. It is a huge win. That provision was critically important. They changed the stAndard of proof one has to prove And they removed any evidence of actual fraud to overturn an election. By a stAnding up, walking out taking the stAnd sweet it is democrats, im glad we were able to highlight the absurdity this provision would bring on our democracy. Its huge for our elections And huge for the voters of texas And hopefully other states will pay note as well And not try to do this in their states either. Representative bucy, i have to say when i saw the Walk Out, it was dramatic. It was important. It stopped the clock. It felt from distance all it was doing was stopping the clock And at some point that clock was going to start again from the same tremendous disadvantage democrats have on that legislator. While that clock has been stopped, he did get this win at least. Absolutely. Weve seen this provision taken, out the attack on Sunday Voting hours which is really an attack on the polls which is common in the south among our African American voters And communities. Thats a provision they also want back. We are seeing multiple wins here. Our caucus, all 67 democrats in the Texas House are committed to continuing this fight to fight for all the Voting Rights for people of texas. Representative johnson, whats remains in the struggle ahead over this legislation . Well, the governor has called us And for a special session. We start on thursday. They still have not issued the call And they have not, we have not seen the newly filed bill. Obviously, we will have to see what theyre going to put forward on the table And what theyre going to file, see if these provisions are in or out or what other crazy things have come up with to try And put in this bill. Or if we are going to take the lets pass a reasonable with the house offering reasonable amendments, we have the time in our process of the house, we will see if any of those in amidst make it back into this version. We need to see where they actually try to do, And fortunately the democratic caucus for united, we are ready to fight whatever means necessary to make sure we have a fair Elections Bill for the people of texas. If that means breaking quorum, that means breaking quorum. If that means offering 1 Million amendments, And everything else, arguing And debating, we are willing to do everything necessary to make sure we have a fair elections process.
