America has always been propelled into the future by landmark national investments, investments that only the government has the capaCity To make, only the government working together could make. Today happens to mark its coincidental, but today is the 60th Anniversary of one of those significant investments that changed the nation. 65 years ago Today President Dwight eisenhower signed a bill to create the interstate highway system, 65 years ago today. That was the last Infrastructure Investment of the Size And Scope of what im about to talk about today. Its time for us to write a new chapter in that story. After months of careful negotiations, of listening, compromising together and in good faith, moving together, with Ups And Downs and some blips, a bipartisan group of senators got together and they forged an agreement to move forward on the key priorities of my american jobs plan, The One sitting in front of me. As a result, this is a generational investment, a generational investment to modernize our infrastructure, creating millions of good paying jobs. Thats not coming from me. Thats coming from wall street. Millions of good paying jobs and positions america to compete with the rest of the world in the 21st century because china is way outworking us in terms of infrastructure. Its going to make the world a difference for families here in wisconsin. Heres what its going to do. This bill will put american workers to work in good paying jobs, not minimum wage jobs, not 15 an hour jobs, prevailing wage jobs, good paying jobs repairing our roads and bridges. You all know why that matters. 1 in 5 miles of highway and roads in america are in poor condition, 1 in 5 miles. Some states its worse where the weather is tougher. 50 years, 50 of our bridges are over 50 years old. More than 1,000 bridges here in Wisconsin Are Rated as structurally deficient by engineers. 1,000 just in wisconsin. That doesnt make wisconsin better or worse. Its all across the nation is this way. The bridges, the 10 most traveled bridges in America Need Repair and some need to be completely rebuilt. More than 600 here in the state of Wisconsin Bridges have Weight Limits to prevent trucks from crossing. That means long detours for farmers heading to market. Its more than just an inconvenience. Its about safety as well. In november 2019, a School Bus in arcadia, wisconsin, tipped over going around a curve and went into a ditch with 20 students on board. It wasnt because of snow and ice. It was just an old country road. It was rough conditions. Thank God Nobody was seriously injured at the time. But this is a drain on our economy as well. Typical american, it varies slightly from state to state but the typical american pays a hidden tax of more than 1,000 a year in wasted time and fuel due to traffic congestion. Now, the more rural the area, the less the congestion, but that creates otheR Difficulties. You all know that feeling, losing time, sitting in traffic or being rerouted because the Bridge Isnt wide enough or the road is poorly maintained. This deal is going to put americans back to fixing all of that and good paying jobs. This deal will also put americans to work replacing 100 of our nations lead water pipes. You know, theres 400,000 its really dangerous. Every single american child at home or in school will soon be able to turn on that faucet and their moms and dads know the water theyre drinking is clean and safe. Ill give you an example why that matters. Just look at the city of milwaukee. Milwaukee has more than 160,000 Water Service lines. More than 70,000 of them have lead service lines. By the way, its not picking on wisconsin. Every states like this. But just to know what youre going to be doing for the State Of Wisconsin here. You know, we know that exposure to lead in Drinking Water can trigger a number of serious problems. Even low Level Lead can cause behavioral and learning problems in children, impairing their growth. There are up to 10 Million homes with Lead Pipe Service lines and pipes. Children in up to 400,000 schools and Child Care facilities are at risk of exposure to lead. This deal contains the largest investment in clean Drinking Water and Wte Water Infrastructure in american history. This bill also provide something youre very familiar with. It provides funding to get dangerous chemicals out of our water system, known as pfas or forever chemicals. I know that youre feeling it right here. Here in lacrosse county. Just this spring the state had to provide free Bottled Water to thousands of people on French Island because they were worried about chemicals in the groundwater linked to cancer and other illnesses. Well pay for that. Well get that done. Were also going to serve resources to help address the forever chemicals not just here but all across america. Unfortunately wisconsin is not unique in this problem. This deal will also put americans to work Building Transmission lines. The largest investment in clean Energy Transmission in american history. Power outages cost the u. S. Economy 70 Billion annually. You hear me . Nationally, 70 Billion annually. We need to make investments to build a more resilient grid to carry this electricity. The Nations Grid is aging. Some components are over a century old. And 70 of the Transmission And Distribution lines are well into the second half of their life spans. You saw what happened in texas this winter. The entire system in the state collapsed, the entire system. So we have to act. This deal will modernize the Power Grid to be more energy efficient and resistant to extreme weather. Resilient against bad actor who is try to hack and attack the grid, because i just spent a lot of time in europe trying to work on that. Its going to strengthen and revitalize our natural infrastructure, like our coastlines and levies while preparing our physical infrastructure from wildfires, floods and other extreme weather. Anybody ever turn on the news and see its 116 degrees in portland, oregon . 116 degrees. But dont worry, theres no global warming. Doesnt exist. Its a figment of our imagination. Seriously. When a severe Storm Rolls in like you had in some parts of the state just recently, the power is less likely to go out. Town Water Systems will be able to withstand what happens if we make these investments. As all of you know, america is one of the highest Fatality Rates of anywhere in the industrial. The highest gross Fatality Rates of any industrial nation in the world. I lost a Wife And Daughter and almost lost two sons. Our Fatality Rate is double the rate in canada on a per capita basis. I bet every one of you here can tell me what the most dangerous intersections in your town are. Maybe you dont have many, but everybody knows what intersections are the most dangerous. Youre teaching your kid to drive, what do you do . You tell them, dont go down that road. Im being deadly earnest. If you come home, come home the other way. Well, Guess What . Weve got an agreement to invest 11 Billion to help cities and locals reduce crashes in their community especially for cyclists and pedestrians, which are increasing significantly. This deal is going to more than double the funding direct to the state and local programs and improve the safety of people in vehicles, including highway safety, truck safety, Pipeline And Hazard material safety. You know, we have thousands of miles of pipeline. The vast majority of those pipes are 60 years old, some of them more than 80 years old. A lot of them are leaking. This is the united states of america, for gods sake. What are we not doing . This deal will also help high Speed Internet and make sure its available to every american home, including 35 of rural families who currently go without it. As of last spring, more than 82,000 children here in wisconsin, which prides itself on its education, didnt have reliable Internet Access at home. Think about that in a year of remote schooling. Some of our needs and connections were forced to move online. Tens of thousands of Wisconsin Kids got left behind. Did you ever think your kids would have to sit in a fast Food Parking Lot just to do their School Work so they could connect online . Its not a joke. Ask any mom that had kids in school. No child should have to do that. No farmer here in wisconsin should think if they dont have reliable connection to the internet, No One to buy new York City no when to buy, know when to sell and know whats going on. Back in 1936 the federal government brought electriCity To nearly every Home And Farm in america and spread the opportunity out for cities through every part of the country. It changed the lives and fortunes of thousands of homeowners, thousands of hometowns and millions of american families. It set the stage for a massive sustained economic boom that followed World War ii. High Speed Internet is the equivalent of that today. Its an equivalent of that. It isnt a luxury. Its now a necessity like water and electricity. This bill could provide for everyone while bringing down the cost of Internet Service across the board. This deal will also put americans to work in the firstever national effort to install electric vehicle Charging Stations, 500,000 Charging Stations nationwide along highways and in rural and disadvantaged communities as well. Think about what that could mean to the american Auto Worker and the future of Electric Vehicles. China is going full bore with providing more Electric Vehicles than any nation in the world. You know, it used to be when i first got to the united States Senate in the 60s when i was getting out of law school, what happened . We invested more in R D and Investment And Manufacturing than any nation in the world. Now were number eight in the world. China used to be number nine. Now theyre number two in the world. When you build a Charging Station, it spurs more Investment And Infrastructure around it. The local convenience store, the local hamburger place. My dad used to tell me because he worked back in the days for the american oil company. The combustion engine, needed to put gas in the car. Guess what . They had to build gas stations. One of my dads jobs and my grandpops jobs was to go from City To city convincing them it was okay to bury these great big tanks with gasoline in them. Entire communities grew up around it. This is exactly what we have to do with regard to Electric Vehicles. This deal is also going to help our cities and towns and schools to deploy electric buses, 35,000 electric School Buses are accounted for. There are about 475,000 School Buses in this country. 95 of them, like The One you had here are you okay, honey . Sure . You took a little bit of a tumble. 95 of them run on diesel. So every day more than 25 Million kids and thousands of Bus Drivers breathe polluted air on the way to and from school. Diesel Air Pollution is linked to asthma and other health problems. It causes students to get sick and miss time in school. We dont i know the city of lacrosse is getting two electric buses this fall. I think i saw them this fall. I was down in carolina looking at the bus company. This bipartisan deal, by the way, you had half republicans and half democrats come along and present this deal and negotiate this deal. Its going to help advance that effort. This deal also modernizes our outdated airports and waterways. That means drain away so much money from families and businesses. Theres no good reason why that zero, zero of the top 25 airports in the world are american. Zero. Not one. This deal will put americans to work. Its long overdue. It means good paying jobs, Capping Hundreds Of Thousands of abandoned Oil And Gas wells that need to be cleaned up and capped. Methane leaks, protecting the health of our communities, making the same money it took to dig that well. Theres thousands of them. Not to mention this deal represents the largest investment in american Passenger Rail and in Freight Rail since the creation of amtrak. I know, im mr. Amtrak. Ive traveled over 2 Million miles on amtrak. I know you think im nuts. My Wife And Daughter were killed. Ive decided to commute back and forth. Its a 257mile round trip. Another quick story. I shouldnt bore you with that. The Secret Service is the best in the world, dont like taking amtrak because it stops too much. They want to be flying home in small jets. That costs a lot of money. I go home on fridays. When my mom was passing away, id go home on amtrak. They keep fastidious records of the miles of travel. Toward The End of my tomorrow, headline came out in all the papers, biden travels i think it was 1. 3 or 1. 7 miles on Air Force planes. So im getting on the train and these guys all became my family, all the conductors. I thought they were going to shoot him. No, no, no, no, hes a friend. He said big deal, joey. 300,000 miles. You know how many miles i travel on amtrak, joey . I said no. He said we calculated. We estimated 127 days a year, 250 miles back and forth, 36 years. Then as Vice President , joey, you traveled more on amtrak. When they named the station after me, my city, someone complained biden uses his influence. I said, held, they should name the whole Northeast Corridor after me. Studies show you can get to youR Destination in the same amount of time or less on rail than you can by car. People will take rail. You know this. Imagine you could get from chicago, from lacrosse to chicago in two hours instead of 4 1 2. This will allow us the capaCity To do that. It will not only make your travel easier, it will reduce the largest source of pollution in america, vehicle travel. 66 Billion in rail to eliminate backlogs and World Class Rail service to areas outside the northeast. Here in wisconsin well add new stops in green bay, madison. This deal also makes the largest investment in public transit in american history. A whole lot of people here in Wisconsin Depend On Public Transportation like the Bus System here in lacrosse to get to work, to school and get around. Becae of this deal, we need it quicker, cleaner and more reliable. More Transit Options mean more people can Access Jobs as well. One study found that it leads to higher wages for workers because businesses can attract more customers. This deal is a great deal for american people, not just for Red States or blue states but for everybody. A lot of those folks are being left behind now. The Guys Who crew up in scranton and claymont are being left behind. This is the answer for jobs, jobs not just in our biggest cities along our coast, but in small towns across the country. So families can build Wealth And Opportunity in rural hometowns and dont have to leave when theyre grown up. I said it all along. This is a blue Collar Blueprint to rebuild america. Long before families in wisconsin are going to see the benefits firsthand. Im always quoting my dad because he was smart and i loved him. My dad used to say joey, you job is about a lot more than a paycheck. Its about youR Dignity, your respect, your place in the community. I mean, he really would say this. When he lost everything in scranton and had to move down to claymont, delaware, all he wanted was just to have a little bit of breathing room, Just A Little Bit of breathing room. Thats why weve got to build this economy from the Bottom Up and the middle out, not trickle down. Creating good paying jobs and dignity and jobs that cannot be outsourced. Critically, were going to get it all done without raising taxes on a single american earning less than 400,000. All of you making over 400,000, i love you, but i dont mind a little bit if your taxes go up a little bit. All kidding aside, i made a commitment. I would not support anything that raised a penny in taxes to someone making under 400 grand. That means in this bill there is no gas tax. Working families have already paid enough. Instead were going to pay with these investments in part by giving the internal Revenue Service the resources it needs to collect taxes on the wealthiest americans who owe and are currently not paying under the existing tax laws. By the way, its not done by this. It was done by conservative economists and liberal economists. It cracks down on tax cheats, not just hard working Middle Class americans. Theres a lot of important investments in this deal that are long overdue. Economists agree its going to create good jobs and dramatically strengthen our economy in the long run. Makes it easier for businesses to transport goods, makes it easier for workers to more easily Access Job opportunities. The reason this agreement matters so much is about what it represents. This Deal Isnt just the sum of its parts. Its a signal to ourselves and to the world that american democracy can come through and deliver for all our people. We can be united. I just met with the g7. I just met with all of nato. I just met with putin. Autocrats think that Democracy Cant keep up with autocrats. Not a joke. Its Living Proof we can still come together in this country and accomplish something Big And transformational. I know neitheR Democrats or republicans get all they want in this agreement. Its not all that i proposed, but thats what our economy is all about. Thats what it means to compromise and reach consensusc. We cant give up. We have to keep finding ways to come together. Every time we negotiate in good faith and come together and get something big done, we break a little more of the ice that too often keeps us frozen in place and prevents us from solving the real problems people are facing. Let me be clear. Theres much more to do and im going to continue to fight for you. Im going to keep working with congress to pass even more of my economic agenda so we can keep building an economy from the Bottom Up and middle out as we bring home key parts of my american jobs plan. Im going to make the case there are critical investments still needed, including those in my family plan, the american family plan. Maybe the most important among them is extending the child tax credit, which will significantly benefit working folks. Let me explain what that is. Pretty soon taxpayers in america are going to get a significant check back from the irs. For example, if you have to pay taxes and you have a good income, you get to deduct 2,000 peR Dependent, per child. That comes off the Bottom Line of your taxes and you probably still owe more after thats cut off. But for families who, in fact, dont have that Big A tax bill, they dont get anything from this. So we changed the law this year and its cutting by 40 . Here in wisconsin theyre going to get checks from the irs. Heres who it is. For every child you have under the age of 6 youre going to get 3600. For every child over the age of 12, youre going to get 3,000. Youll actually get a Cash Payment instead of just a credit against your taxes, because you dont pay that many taxes if youre making the minimum wage or 20, 30, 40,000 a year. People say, well, thats a giveaway. You guys, i think its time to give ordinary people a Tax Break. The wealthy are doing fine. I mean it. I mean it. Why is this not a Tax Break for working folks when Theres Stuff we give to the super wealthy are called Tax Breaks . Look, major action on clean energy, housing, caregiving, on child and paid leave, universal prek, free community college. The infrastructure is going to help us create more good jobs, ease the burden of Working Families and strengthen our economy in the long run. Im going to be out there making the case for the american people until this job is done, until we bring this bipartisan bill home, until our Human Infrastructure also needs are met, until we have a fair Tax System to pay for all of this. By the way, what im talking about in the family plan, let me tell you how im going to pay for it. If we just raise the corporate tax to 28 it used to be 35 . Its now 21. If we raise it to 28 , you know how much money that raises . 1. 4 trillion. If you have a minimum global tax, which we agreed to in europe, that means Corporations Cant Avoid paying the taxes at home. That would generate in america 385 billion. If you end deductions from foreign corporations who ship their profits out of the united states, that raises 260 Billion in these tax havens. There are 30 corporations in America Fortune 500 i come from the corporate capital of the world, delaware. Not a joke. More corporations are incorporated in delaware than all the rest of america combined, okay . Guess what . 15 of the Fortune 500 companies last year i mean 30, paid zero taxes. They made billions of dollars. Paid not a penny in tax. Not a single cent. Im not trying to punish anybody. Im saying lets be fair. If you just set up a minimum tax, if you had to pay at least 15 of your earnings as a corporation, that alone would raise 230 billion. The point is i have never had a reputation as being someone whos out there trying to just outtax people. Heres the deal, folks. I think its about time that there be fairness in taxes. I dont want you paying more than your share. The Tax Cut that was passed under trump for 2 trillion, not a penny of which is paid for. Where did it go . Over 80 of it went to the top onequarter of 1 . I think you should be able to be a billionaire. I think you should be able to be a millionaire. But for gods sake, at least pay. Pay your fair share. Pay your fair share. Folks, a lot of work ahead to finish the job ive just outlined. There will be more disagreements to resolve, more compromises to forge along the way, but today the american people can be proud that democrats and republicans, families here in wisconsin can be proud, congress can be proud, because this country came together, forged a bipartisan deal. A lot has to do with your senator. It delivers for everybody. Weve shown the world and ourselves that american democracy can come through. Theres nothing, nothing, nothing beyond our capacity when we come together as one nation. So thank you, wisconsin. Thank you all for who you are and what you do. May god bless you all and may god protect our troops. Thank you, thank you, thank you. [ applause ] we taKe Care of our own Ke C and we have been listening to and watching President Biden deliver those remarks about his Infrastructure Plan there in lacrosse, wisconsin. Calls it a blue Collar Blueprint to rebuild america. I want to bring in from Wisconsin Nbc News correspondent heidi przybyla. Weve all heard versions of this speech before. I will suggest, though, that we have not seen President Biden deliver this speech in this way. I think he was fairly fired up. We all got an education about his american jobs plan, the american Families Plan and how he intends or proposes to pay for it. So heidi, put into sort of a fuller Context Everything we heard from the president this hour. Reporter well, now we know, jeff, why we are here, because the president wants to underscore very explicitly just how overdue we are for a major infusion into infrastructure. We are marking today the 65th Anniversary of the last time we did a major Infrastructure Investment in the interstate highway system. Joe biden was 13 and you and i werent around. Hes saying that to illustrate to people that its time, that the check is due and what it means for local communities like this all around the country, speaking with great specificity about what it means for wisconsin. For instance, he mentioned 1,000 bridges that are in poor condition. Entire portions of the state where theres hardly any broadband. With covid really bringing into sharp focus those inequalities with children not being able to do online school. Half of milwaukees Water Service lines that are lead pipes. Speaking and hitting on all of those portions of his plan and then giving specific numbers for what it means for people here. Finally, jeff, making clear that although many of the people in the surrounding area here may not support him, they should support this plan, because we spoke about them. He spoke about farmers, Union Workers and how they would be getting the jobs and they would not be paying for the overall plan. Yeah. Pick up on that point. This trip originally was all about agriculture. He was supposed to be joined by the agriculture secretary. Ultimately he stayed home and this became about infrastructure. Did the White House feel like they had to raise the pressure on lawmakers back here in washington by going out into the country and helping real people understand how this plan, as the White House sees it anyway, would benefit them . Them trying to make the case and theyre trying to make it in a very personal way. You heard President Biden Today Talk in very personal terms about infrastructure, about roads and bridges and building a Charging Station for Electric Vehicles, how that could change an entire community. He was really kind of putting it in historic terms and also putting it in terms of this competition with china, saying basically that the u. S. Has fallen behind and that now they need to catch up and really pass china, because thats who this country is competing against now. It also comes at this moment when really the White House is kind of playing this massive game of jinga, like trying to build this tower where they keep the progressives and conservatives in line and trying to get this whole thing done without the whole tower collapsing. Thats where they are right now and theyre trying to build the pressure. Thats a great way to describe it. My thanks to you for getting us started this hour. This afternoon i was able to sit down with michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer to get her take on the Infrastructure Negotiations and what her State Needs in the face of destructive flooding. Good to see you. Thanks for your time this afternoon. Thank you. Glad to be with you. The detroit Metro Area is grappling with the impact of flooding from a torrent of rain this past weekend. How is your administration providing assistance to those folks whose homes and belongings have been destroyed . Second it also strikes me that this flooding highlights the urgent need for revitalized infrastructure in michigan. Theres no question about it. This is climate Change Meeting with decades of underinvestment in infrastructure. This is whats happening. Weve had freeways that were flooded. Weve had homes that were flooded. I declared an emergency very early onto get the process started. I went and looked at the damage yesterday. We took an Aerial View in a state police helicopter. Also we were on the ground, visited with a number of municipal leaders. Were working in close conjunction to make sure that we have got a Real Itemized Encompassing list of all of the different catastrophe issues that we are confronting so we can submit that to fema. But that process has been started and were working in close communication with our federal partners and the biden administration as well as local leaders. Thats all being organized through our State Emergency operations center. Help us understand how a federal Infrastructure Bill would impact your state. Michigan has a significant stake in this. Its the heart of the american automotive industry. Its infrastructure was given a dplus by the american society of civil engineers. Thats not news to you. Michigan has an aged infrastructure. What would federal Investment Mean . I ran on fixing the roads. We are doing just that. I went forward with a bonding plan. It was only in the scope of state trunk line. What we need is comprehensive investment across this country. The pipes underneath the ground that take our Waste Water out of our homes, the roads on which we all drive, the bridges under which we travel as well as broadband. These are all crucial infrastructure pieces. Im grateful that weve got someone like buttigieg leading the charge. This would mean we can really start to rebuild infrastructure in a resilient way with a mind toward mitigating our impact on climate change. This is about our economy, putting people onto good paying jobs and moving our infrastructure forward with the Safety And Strength of our economy. Lets talk about covid or as the White House would say it, the sort of comeback from covid. The White House announced this saturday the president is going to join you to celebrate the Countrys Progress against the virus. This past spring, though, you were critical of the administrations vaccine strategy. You wanted the White House to redirect vaccines from states where cases were low to hot spots like The One that michigan was. The White House said no, they werent going to do it. Did that substantially limit Michigans Ability to recover quickly . Well, i was doing my job, right . My job is to fight for the people of michigan. So at that point in time when we saw a surge in covid, we knew that additional vaccines would be helpful. We had a difference of opinion on strategy. Thats fine. Were in such a strong position now nationally. Were thrilled to be hosting the president in travers city. Its the Cherry Capital of the world. We are really proud of our agriculture here in michigan. The Cherry Festival Fourth of July Weekend is all americana. Were really glad to host the president and show off the Great Lakes which really set michigan apart from anywhere else on the planet. A final question about covid because there are lots of concerns about the Delta Variant and the threat it poses. Los Angeles County is now urging everybody to wear masks indoors, even people who are vaccinated. Might you require the same . Is that a concern that you have . At this juncture our Covid Numbers are so low, our hospitalizations are so low. I mean its under 2 . Thats good. Thats a strength. We need to continue getting people vaccinated. So we are meeting people where they are, getting into neighborhoods, partnering with churches. This is slow but important work so were really trying to continue vaccinating people. Of course were going to continue following the science and keep our eye on the Delta Variant. At this juncture, we feel really good about where we are and were going to continue to grit our teeth and do the work and get more people vaccinated. Thanks for your time as always. We are learning this afternoon that on Thursday President biden will travel to the scene of that Condo Tower Collapse in florida where officials announce there are now 210 Search And Rescuers, but 5 1 2 days in the waiting for families is agonizing. The Search And Rescue process is increasingly painstaking. There was frustration, there was a little anger. There were questions about why the work has to stop when theres rain, thunderstorms and lightning. The Police Chief or the Fire Chief addressed this issue and said that he would talk to the higher ups about whether or not that it was an interesting comment. Because the speaker said theyre already risking their lives anyway, theyre working under a building that could fall down, why do we have to stop for lightning . As those efforts continue, Nbc News has obtained a letter sent this past april to residents of the champlain towers south by the president of the buildings board. In it, she warned that the buildings, quote, Concrete Deterioration is accelerating and that damage, quote, would begin to multiply exponentially. The purpose of the letter was to explain why the repairs could cost nearly 16 million. The warning was more urgent than what residents said they were told back in 2018. Those residents, some elderly and on fixed incomes, learned they would have to pay for the repairs themselves. A lot of this work could have been done or planned for in years gone by, the Board President wrote in that letter, but this is where we are now. Joining us from surfside, florida, Antonia Hilton and allison barber. Theres that letter from the Condo Board a couple of months ago. But there are also new photos obtained by the Miami Herald from just a couple of days before the collapse. What can you tell us about that . Reporter thats right, jeff. This reporting from the Miami Herald is really intensifying some of the conversation happening here in surfside right now as people ask, what did the leadership of this building, the condo association, know about the extent of damage and the risk to the people who lived in this building . I should say at the outset that Nbc News does not know the person who took these photos. These are exclusive to the Miami Herald, but what they show are standing water and extensive corrosion. What i did when this reporting came out is i brought it to an expert engineer, a man named Troy Morgan and asked him to break down what this all means. How serious are the signs here. He told me they show serious damage that required repairs in one area of the building basically adjacent to the pool deck area, but he told me this is not the Smoing Gun yet. He said if it turns out there is similaR Damage in other parts of the building, this may be an important early clue, but he cautioned reporters to understand it is going to be months still from this point before we understand exactly why this building came down. He basically said those few Photos Cant explain why the towers would crash down in the middle of the night. Still the reporting out of the Miami Herald coupled with that letter are really adding to the pain people are experiencing here, because were reaching day six. Tomorrow were going into day seven of this Search And Rescue mission. As i talk to people who live here, many of them are starting to lose faith that their loved one is going to be found alive under such heavy concrete over the course of these last several days. Many of them are turning their attention to accountability. Some of them are Launching Lawsuits against this condo association, seeking to hold them accountable for what they may or may not have known. This Accountability Piece is now the focus for many people and theyre asking why did this happen and who can we hold responsible. Jeff. Allison, lets talk more about the families. What are you hearing from them . To antonias point, they are certainly trying to hold out hope, but the trauma is just agonizing. Reporter its a lot of emotions and its hard for a lot of people to put into words exactly what theyre going through. Its hard to imagine what these families are going through because very few people have ever experienced anything like this. 151 people are still unaccounted for. 151 people still missing. Among them are Nicole And Luis. They were just married in january of this year. They were going to have a bigger wedding, a bigger celebration soon, but obviously now this has happened delaying all of that. Nicoles Brother Martin told us that their story was really just beginning and now their Hole Family are praying for a miracle. Luis was 28 years old. Nicole, 26. This morning we met Nicoles Brother martin and heR Dad Pablo Right here and they told us that Nicole And Luis were very chose to the perfect couple and when nicole walked into a room, she just lit it up. It was impossible not to notice her, not to want to talk to her. They also came to speak with us because they wanted to thank the rescuers and ask them, please do not give up hope because they have not given up hope yet either. Listen here. I see your working. Keep fighting. Its my daughter and my soninlaw. All the families, please keep Taking Rock By rock, sand, piece of sand, anything. Keep pushing, keep pushing until The End. Just do it for us. Do it for the families. Do it for the world. Reporter martin who you saw standing next to his Dad Pablo there, he told us his sister nicole is a fighter, that she would fight for her life. He believes she is still fighting. Every single day they are praying for some sort of miracle. Theres a Go Fund me as well thats been set up on behalf of the family because what were hearing from so many people is a lot of these are people who have families that live abroad. In the case of Nicole And Luis, they have family in Argentina And Venezuela who now because of this are trying to get here to miami. Jeff. It is just endlessly heartbreaking. My thanks to the both of you. I want to bring in michael noriega. His Grandmother Hilda Noriega is missing after the collapse. Tell us about your grandmother. Oh my goodness, my grandmother, she is larger than life. Shes the most loving person. Shes crazy about her family. Shes a woman of faith. She loves god. She loves jesus. She has tons of friends, fiercely independent and dearly loved. Just to give you a testament of her character, my Grandmothers Condo was for sale. One of the realtors that actually came to show the property had sent a Text Message to my sister, who is the Selling Realtor and had said to my sister, does your grandmother come with the sale of this condo. That is just how loving she is. Yeah. What a testament. I understand that you found some photos of your grandparents and your father in the debris near the scene, also a Birthday Card. Tell us about that. Yes. We were very, very broken when we arrived and we saw debris everywhere. We did find a lot of personal belongings, but my father, of all people, stepped on something and looked down and it happened to be a Birthday Card that my grandmother had received two weeks prior. When he picked it up and opened it, he just could not believe what he was looking at. So then our family thought to ourselves, well, what else could be here . We found two pictures, the first being a picture of my grandmother and my late grandfather and my own father as a baby in the picture as well as a picture of my grandparents on vacation. It just warmed our hearts. Is there anything you want to hear more from officials, anything you want them to do that theyre potentially not doing as you wait . Not at all. I mean, since the moment that weve been here we arrived 2 30 in the morning the night this happened. Weve watched the firefighters and first responders relentlessly put their lives on the line. Weve watched all of the officials that are here put all politics aside and just come together in unity from our coun mayor to our senators, to governoR Desantis who just has had a personal touch on our lives. Hes just been so supportive. Its been amazing to see everybody come together. I think what everybody is a little bit confused on that may not be as close to this scene is that this is such a delicate situation. There were two days of fires that kept coming out. People dont realize if you move the wrong piece of rubble or the wrong piece of rock that is holding up other pieces of rubble, then you could cause an avalanche that could potentially kill survivors. The first responders are doing everything they tirelessly and let me tell you, it just in spiers us and fills us full of hope. You know, michael, i have to tell you what, you have an Entour Country holding your family close in thought and that is lifting you up. Really appreciate your time this afternoon. Thank you so much. Were just asking as a family for prayers. And we really appreciate it. Absolutely. Absolutely. Officials say at least 11 people have been confirmed dead in this tragedy. Manually lafont, 54yearold father of two. He had a 15yearold Daughter and 10yearold son. And 52yearold Marcus Joseph lotta. They were all among the missing right now. Well be right back. E missing right now. Well be right back. And we could find out at any moment if executives inside the Trump Organization are indicted as part of a new york probe. The new york times reports that attorneys for the Trump Organization met with senior officials from the Manhattan District attorney and made the case for no charges. According to the times, the trump attorneys, pointed to the harm that business could face if it were indicted including damage to its relationships with banks and business partners. Thats according to people with knowledge of the matter. Matt miller joins me. So first of all, good to see you. St but this sort of meeting that happened yesterday, as i understand it, is routine when it comes to white collar investigations. What if if anything does it signal about where the prosecutors work stands right now . I think it signals that barring last minute development, the Trump Organization and the cfo are likely to be indicted this weekend. This is the last step before indictment typically. There are occasions where the entity being investigated will come in and present some piece of evidence that is so compelling it will lead to prosecutors to change course. That is pretty rare at this stage of an investigation. In anything, prosecutors take a look at what the defense has to say and then they take that into account when they write the indictment. So i suspect that were going to see an indictment not of the form of president himself but his business and Chief Financial Officer in very short order. Why not of the president . If we take his attorneys for his word which of course is hard to do historically in, the meeting they said thats not going to happen at this early stage. I think that probably is consistent with the fact that we have not yet seen him cooperating with prosecutors. The if you look at what would likely what they would likely need to indict the former president , they need the Paper Case and someone that can speak to his untent. One person that could do that is his attorney. He may cooperate. If youre Fating Indictment and facing potential jail time if youre convicted, why wouldnt you cooperate. If you work for someone foR Decades like he has foR Donald trump, it is a real kind of almost psychic break for people to feel like theyre turning on someone to whom theyve shown loyalty foR Decades. It is real Brass Tax time. In the minute with have left, the charge was trump the donald Trump Organization and brand. Obviously. Is that something that prosecutors have really taken into account . Prosecutors do take that into account when investigating companies and considering resolutions of their investigation. You cant just come in and tell a prosecutor if you indict this company, its going to an impact on our business. If they believe you committed a crime, you have to come in with some kind of proposal for resolving the criminal liability. The come back i suspect would be, fine. We wont indict you. But you need to agree to plead guilty to these charges. You need to agree to some sort of rest constitution. You need to agree to a plan. And barring that, that is not thats not a very compelling argument for the company to make. All right. Matt miller. Thank you. Ayman mohyeldin picks up our coverage next.
