She tonight revealed legislation that would create a select committee to investigate the January 6th attack. It means congress will create a new committee just for this purpose and to do this investigation. It is made up of members of congress, not outside experts. For people who had been following a lot of these lawmakers very closely, and it wasnt incredibly surprising to see that they did show up at this event considering that It Hit on a lot of the key Fraud Claims that a lot of these and lawmakers had been bolstering to their supporting ranks in the past few months. Jared, as things have gotten weirder, like those kind of allegations that you are just describing, biden sending this by plane the hunt for Bamboo Fighters and the paper, the more outlandish unbelievable and in some cases laughable claims that it undergirded the suppose the need for the audit in the things theyre investigating, as things are getting weirder, and weirder, has that undercut the seriousness with which republicans are treating this, or the anticipation many republican circles as to what the supposed audit is going to find. There are some sense of conservative relief out here in arizona that see some of that as evidence of further wrongdoing of further, you know, evidence of there being wrong issues in the election. They see it as further evidence to support that there is something going on, nefarious going on in the Election Or Something nefarious going on in the audit or the people in the orbit of the audit. Then the republicans that have been coming out and saying, no, this is not right. We are seeing a lot of Misinformation Disinformation that happen and republicans have spoken out very publicly and such as Maricopa County Reporter Stephen Richer or the Board Of Supervisors which is mainly Maricopa County supervisors which is mainly republican come out strongly against. And thats been a big point in the Arizona Senate fighting back and forth between Maricopa County bauder of supervisors which is part of the republican so they have this kind of divide between certain types of republicans within the state and sound, no matter what happens they see it as some kind of evidence between more fraud or you have others that are kind of saying, enough is enough for some of the stuff. It does feel like at times a little bit of 80 something that tends towards mass hysteria. The idea that looting can failing evidence it is more evidence for how right you are. I will tell you, just recovering this from the outside, i do find Europe Work and the work of your colleagues in the arizona republicans and other outlets have been incredibly volleyball. I also know you guys have been working triple time in order to keep the country informed as to whats been going on there and it has been hard to follow and it is a challenge. The Engineers Report said failure to replace the waterproofing in the near future, will cause the extent of the Concrete Deterioration to expand exponentially. Happy to be here to tell People Story about it. Help me understand where we are in the process. The thing that is gutwrenching here is not only the known loss of life already but the very large number of people who remain unaccounted for, and the fact that this is day five obviously the first 75 hours golden Hour Period that is the best window for finding people alive. Day five, it is starting to feel like a very scary situation. Yeah, i think over the weekend especially after this sort of initial frustration from the families about not knowing exactly what was happening and they were able to see up close they were taken as close to the side as they could get to sort of witness the Search Efforts themself. They saw the hundreds of people working near the pile. They saw this labyrinth of piles, machinery that is now working there. And they were able to sort of have a private moment there to grieve. I think that has led to officials starting to ease up into the idea, as horrible as it, is that it is going to be a long painstaking process and what they might find our human remains. Its going to be very difficult. ThE Rescue workers i have spoken to, talk about just the enormity of it being very different from anything they had to work before in terms of the number of possible fatalities. They describe, really harrowing situations where they find one floor barely a couple of feet from another floor. Normally nervy about ten feet between ceiling and floor. In the one storm of the building, now were talking about maybe two feet, one foot of spacing. Its just really terrible everything we hear coming out of the sight. Can you tell us a little bit about how officials arrived act this, as i said, terrifying number that theres maybe 150 people who are unaccounted for now, five days into this . How confident are they in that number . Obviously, it looms as a theoretical Death Toll when this is all over. They still call it a very fluid number. They have not been willing to release the names on it because they fear it is not entirely correct. They have dependent on families to come forward and report their Loved Ones missing in file former paperwork saying that. So the Question is have they read to everybody that maybe abroad in other countries, other language are theyre language barriers. Which have a process to rely on the families to come forward. Just yesterday, they said they hadnt necessarily heard from the missing families. They wanted information. They wanted their dna to be swab so that they can make comparisons with any remains they find. Its sort of a slow process, and when they dont have complete confidence in being completely correct. I think we would all love to think that these people are on vacation somewhere, and not following the news. I dont know that thats the case. And in terms of the ongoing efforts, the Rescue And Recovery efforts, its been interesting to see international efforts come, and teams from other countries and teams from around the united states that have specialized expertise specialized eQuipment, can you give us any sense of how dangerous the Rescue And Recovery efforts are . Obviously, these are specialized teams and they know what they are doing. But some of the piece of it, i think like he said, the have an enormity of a task, its daunting. Are they themselves at risk for potential for the collapse while theyre on site . That was a particular concern early on. It still is, but early on they really had no idea what they were facing and they were going through the bottom through these tunnels because they thought that was the best chance that they would have to find what they call boyds, which are empty spaces where they might find light. They started at the bottom, drilling through bit by bit taking up the concrete so thE Rescue workers themselves wouldnt be injured. Rescue Workers Themselvewe did E Rescue workers falling down the mountain 25 feet. Were also told no serious injuries. These teams travel with trauma surgeons, in large part to protect others because it is very dangerous. They dont know if there will be a secondary collapse. When there were those conditions of fire and thunderstorms, and rain, and sort of things that could destabilize a pile, that was of extra concern. Last week, Apple Daily was forced to Shut Down, they raided apple Dailies Office unfroze their accounts. Police started arresting the executives and a columnist. They were rounded up and thrown in jail. That increasingly impossible pressure, that last Newspaper Nonsense they were shutting down for good they published their last issue on thursday. We cover that here on the show people in Hong Kong woke up before dawn to stand in line at new stands to grab a copy for the last issue daily apple printed, they printed 1 Million copies. They were also that across the state a day before a 9 am. The last Print Edition of the last prodemocracy independent newspaper in that great city. Wspaper inand it is obviously an upstanding story for democracy, for freedom of the press, for authoritarianism around the world, its especially horrible for all the journalists who work there. Without the only way to stop their colleagues from getting sent to jail with this top printing the newspaper and go into business. Apparently, even that was not enough. Last night, a senior journalist who used to write for Apple Daily before it Shut Down last week, was trying to board a plane to leave Hong Kong, trying to board a plane from Hong Kong to london. He was arrested in the airport. Police say they arrested him for Quote, conspiring to collude with foreign countries while foreign sources to endanger national security. That crime, its new crime in china that the prochina government has been using to crack down on issues in Hong Kong punishable up to life in prison. O Life I Prison the prodemocracy paper he wrote for does not exist anymore. They arrested him anyway. As he was trying to leave the country. Presumably just so they could.
