On infrastructure and Climate Change were waiting what President Biden is going to stay. We expect to see more details about it on monday. From The End of the day you need 50 democrats to get on board with that and there are not indication thats there are 40 democrats on board. So there could potential i will be a Infrastructure And Reconciliation deal. Senator is joining us now. Let me pick up on what we were just talking about here, they are saying that they were talking about going it alone on this 6 Trillion bill, is that something you would support . We first want to move as far as we can on a bipartisan package, and were making tremendous progress on that. I know the president will be directly involved. But that must be accompanied by a further legislation that would include many of the things that are not included in the bipartisan package. And there is a lot of discussions taking place. I think the next six weeks will be critical how we put together a bipartisan package and a bill to deal with the other issues. I wonder if youre not too optimistic about the bipartisan deal coming together. Are you comfortable with this, you know, 6 Trillion price tag. Well try to find a vehicle to move forward on the other issues. Im optimistic that we will be able to move the legislation. I think it is critically important and the american people want us to do this. We have unity in our caucus to make sure we get infrastructure done. Obviously it will be tricky. We are committed to, woing together in unity in our caucus. Can you talk about the finance committee, right . This has been a big hold up, right . Where does the money come from . Is It Tax Hikes . Speaker pelosi said no to a gas tax, for instance. I think theyre supportive of anything that gets us the revenues that we need. Were willing to consider their proposals. Obviously as we get to the larger bill, were going to have to look for a broader way to pay for it. Some of this will require us to consider the president s proposals. I have to ask you about what we expect to be significant news or at least a significant movement on news next week. Senator schumer with that vote on tuesday, right . It is a huge priority, for example, President Biden, senator schumer, we saw it in the house, Mitch Mcconnell was very clear that he is not down with this. He is not just throwing cold water on this, he is branding it as the stacy abrams compromise. How is the path for how this becomes law . Were going to wait to see what the vote is next week. Do you think it will be 50 50 . I hope its not, i hope we have the voting, but i understand what Senator Mcconnell said, its the Vehicle Code to proceed to discuss this issue. It is amazing if the republican caucus and the senate says we dont even want to talk about Voter Integrity issues. I think theyre out of step with the american people. I hope we get at least 60 senators to vote to take this up for debate. If we dont we have to look for alternative ways to move forward in is a fundamental issue, protecting the right to vote, particularly now on juneteeth. If republicans do not get on board with what you would like to see them do, to move forward and to proceed with the discussion on this key Voting Rights bill, do you think that is enough to send a signal to senaor manchin. Were missing republican leadership. Many County Clerks are republicans. Many of our local City And Township clerks are also republicans. Were missing the republican leadership. The republican leadership in our state needs to step up, show it some leadership, and talk to its Grass Roots and let them know that the election was lost. There is one down state, a local clerk, that received just vile voicemail messages. Threats to her and her safety. And that is not okay. Someone needs to stand up and tell people that you cannot threaten people and get away with it. Especially those individuals entrusted with the core of our democracy, running our elections. S. , when union soldiers told enslaved people in texas that The Civil War had ended and they were free. The u. S. Has not seen a new federal holiday in nearly 40 years. This is the day of profound, in my view, weight and power. Jubilee day, freedom day, liberation day, emancipation day. And today, a national holiday. [ applause ] we are gathered here in a house built by enslaved people. We have come far and we have far to go, but today is a day of celebration. I will bring in frank holland. As you heard the Vice President say, we have far to go. We wanted to bring you on. You are looking at where we are when it comes to economic justice. Talk us through some of your reporting here. Absolutely. Thanks for having me on. First, the racial Wealth Gap in the united states. That could be as high as 13. 5 trillion according to new research from duke university. We break that down to a person level. The median Household Wealth for Black Americans, 24,000. For white americans, its 188,000. Also, keep this in mind. 19 of Black Americans have a negative net worth. Thats compared to 8 of white americans. Really showing the disparity here in the united states. Lets talk about parody. If we could reach it, parody would create 2 Million black people in the middle class. 615,000 black Businesses. According to them, that would increase the housing market, the Stock Market and in general us gdp. You can talk about the need for Black Banks. Absolutely. One of the important things to talk about is the difference between a Minority Bank and a black bank. There are 18 Black Banks in the united states owned by black people or the board is predominantly black people. With all banks this is true, every dollar of whats called Equity Capital, it multiplies by ten in lending power. Since the passing of george floyd, Black Banks have seen an influx of 150 Million of Equity Capital, by investments by corporations, also increases in deposits. Black banks, 85 of the loans are made in the black community. That has a multiplying impact. For many black people, its pretty much a last resort. 80 of the time black people are denied for loans more often for a mortgage, black Businessowners, more than twice as likely denied financing for their Business. 18 doesnt seem like a big number. It doesnt seem like a big number. Its many fewer than a few decades ago. There were 46 Black Banks a few decades ago. Some of that is through consolidation. Some of the banks were just profitable and they are bought by other groups of people. In one case, bought by an asian group. The thing is that while these Black Banks have more lending power, just geographically, they are not in as many places. Its not spread as much around the united states. Theres the national black bank foundation. They are proposing corporations especially invest or put deposits in Black Banks because thats a faster way to build Equity Capital and increase the lending power. Great reporting. Thank you.
