Where he focused on rebuilding our international relationships. I felt a genuine sense of enthusiasm that america was back at the table and fully, fully engaged. Bidens diplomatic skills will be tested again when he sits down with russian president vladimir putin this week. Well have more on that in a moment. But first, two concerns about our own democracy here at home. Democrats top priority for protecting Voting Rights, the for the people act, appears doom, thanks to one of their own, senator joe manchin. But Today House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed some optimism. Sees a Glass Half full. I dont give up on joe manchin. I read the oped, and you read a part of it. Yeah. I think he left the door open. I think its ajar. Im not giving up. Well just have to see how long that ajar door remains open. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is expanding its own efforts to enforce Voting Rights. Here is with the Associate Attorney General said to Jonathan Capehart this morning. I think there is no question that right now we are experiencing enormous challenges to our democracy. Some might even say were in a crisis on Voting Rights. Yes, some do say that. So are we . Are we in a Voing Crisis . Perry beg began junior is one who said yes. America is becoming less democratic. Thats an existential threat and it should be treated like one. But conservative New York times Columnist Ross Dutot argues that were all doomed attitude is extremely premature. Lets discuss this with our panel, Christine Chen is a Cofounder And Executive director of api vote. And Maria Hinajosa, The One And Only superstar, President And Founder of futuro media group. Thanks for joining us. Anita, i want to start with you. What are the chances right now that we will see some sort of a legislation that will protect the Voting Rights and modernize our Elections System . Look, maria teresa, i dont have speaker pelosis Glass Half full outlook right now. Its a moment where manchin has been explicitly clear, did not leave a door open. He said i will not support this. We know that civil rights leaders have been in his office. Progressive groups have been in his office advocating to him, making the points, but he has not been moved. And im not sure that anything will move him. Because lets keep in mind, he represents West Virginia. He sees that as his priority. He doesnt see a push from them, even though polling in West Virginia has shown a lot of support for the people act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. But his premise that it would further divide the country is what showed he is not operating in this reality where black, latina, api and inindigenous voters exist where we know our rights are being challenged, where we know what its like to wait in long lines or face any type of discrimination at the polls. So manchin may enjoy his lofty post as senator, but he is not recognizing the threat that voters are facing. And when we have these laws as the Brennan Center has reported, passed in 14 states, 22 different Voter Suppression laws, that march is just going to continue across the country. And unless there is congressional action like we saw from Texas Democrats in the state house, who walked out of the chambers, who stopped the latest law from passing, they said unless we have congress act, this is something that we wont be able to continue to fight. I think thats absolutely right. I think thats absolutely right. Christina, have i this question for you. One thing is something that was underscored Is Manchin seems to be out of touch with the rest of the country. I know you are front and center in the field talking to individuals, trying to get them access to the polls. But at the same time, making sure that their vote counts. Talk about the differentiation that you see manchin talking about versus Vinita Gupta who recently was one of those people also in field. Whats the difference there . You know, the reality is that we just experienced the 2020 census, and there is a huge shift in terms of changing demographics. And we can see that in the last decade. The asiapacific Islander Community is extremely alarmed that just as more of our voters are using our rights to make our voices heard through the electoral system, more barriers are being placed. I think this is the time where we need to reengage everyone, that perhaps have typically had thought okay, you know what . I voted in the president ial election. Sometimes i vote in the midterms, but they dont are not as activated in between. This is where were asking everyone to go ahead and participate and make their voices known and educate themselves and have these discussion what these Voter Suppression laws are looking like. You know, for instance, Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial and Ethnic Group in the u. S. And the work of our Community Partners focused on engaging this electorate to vote at the same rates of other communities. And we made tremendous strides in 2020. Many reports and data focus on the cycle, highlights how the electorate increased by 47 relative to 2016 president ial elections. And 73 of Asian Americans voted early or voted by mail. And in places like georgia, it was as high as 85 and 89 in arizona and texas. By making these early voting more accessible that we believe all americans can benefit and ensure that our democracy is truly one and only by increasing participation by all who are eligible. We know that one of the biggest reasons for not voting for the Api Voter in the past was the excuse that they were too busy. And thats truly the case for a lot of other people. So, you know, making sure that all these abilities and options to be able to vote early and is really important. So thats why whether its at the State Level or making sure at the federal level that were passing legislation that really restores the voting Rights Act. So maria, i want to bring you in. This seems to be a calculation on the Gop State houses and the gop in general of basically seeing what they dont like to see. And that is an emerging Multicultural America. Im going walk you through a graphic, and bear with me. I want to get your reaction. In 2003, latinos officially became the largest demographic in the united states. 2003. The census revealed that the Latino Boom was going to be in future battleground states, virginia, arizona, nevada, georgia, pennsylvania, texas, and north carolina. Sounding familiar . However, in 2013, the gutting of the voting Rights Act leads to Voter Suppression, and the 22 jurisdictions were all where we saw Latino Boom where you saw Voter Suppression leading from 2013 to 2015. And then something happens. From 2003, latinos becoming the second largest voting demographic, in 2020, latinos became the second largest voting demographic. Meaning they finally were able to vote in and actually voted in a multiutility churl america. Is this accidental that were seeing places like texas and georgia who are already dead last when it comes to voting, that theyre trying to create more restrictions on the Multicultural America . What say you . Maria teresa, i have to say, because i was born in mexico and chose to become an american citizen, im kind of a democracy junkie. I made a decision. Present. To believe in this country, right . And so it is not accidental. I am not seeing this the Glass Half full at all. I wake up so often. Its crazy. Most mornings ill wake up and ill be thinking about the state of american democracy, and what is my family going to do, and how am i going to leave my adult children in this country where we are being attacked . So no, what people dont understand is what this actually looks like. Georgia, Georgia Led By Black Women in terms of leading the vote, but the push, The Rear Guard was asian and latino and latina voters. And in texas, we know texas is a latino state that is increasingly going to be repeated. By the way, im looking at pennsylvania as the next state that is really the latino vote is going to be the one that tips pennsylvania in many ways. And this is only going to increase. So i agree with everybody in the panel. We need to get to work. The only good thing is this is not happening in the back rooms. Where it used to. Were seeing this. Its happening in realtime, and at least in this moment you have this group of women who are saying were not going the take this sitting down. And juanita, one of the things that we saw Is Ag Paxton is right now under investigation in texas because he filed lawsuits of unfair elections and uncertified elections in states that he doesnt belong to. And were talking about he did that in pennsylvania. He tried to do it in georgia, and the list goes on. Can you talk a little bit about what he is on the hook for and possibility what might be he might be what might be the consequences for him . Yeah, so the claim here is that he filed this lawsuit in Bad Faith and presented misleading information, as we all know, 2020 was one of the most secure elections weve ever experienced. And he is claiming Election Fraud as the basis for his claim that lets be real. When he filed this claim, he took to it the Supreme Court. His own Solicitor General would not sign off on it. And his Solicitor General even left his office. So in filing this claim, we have now the State Bar looking into whether or not he should be disbarred for abusing his legal license and presenting, again, misleading information and Bad Faith. So what i find strike about how this could play in politics in texas is that this could be something that actually appeals to trump loyalists who say paxton went all out for trump. He is still out there and defending himself and supporting trumps big lie. But we also know its something his opponents will absolutely use against him politically if he makes to it the general election showing that he should not be Attorney General for the state. And i know that the proceedings are going to be closed with the State Bar association, but if there is anything that reveals itself through witnesses or subpoenas or hearings that they hold, it could be a model for holding other attorneys accountable who signed on to this lawsuit across the country as well. So digging a little bit more of what were seeing in texas and in georgia, christine, you mentioned earlier the rise of the asian electorate. Folks dont realize that in texas there is about A Million api folks that are eligible to vote, and youre going see more of them coming of age, just like in the latino community youre going to see roughly about 250000 more young latino Youth Eligible to vote in the midterm. What does that say about the shenanigans that the republican State Legislaure is trying to do to try to prevent individuals from voting in a fair election . I believe they know the changing demographics, and thats why theyre using those shenanigans. Were alarmed that the proposed legislation in texas would grant like broaden Autonomy And Authority to poll watchers. Were really concerned. We believe that immigrant voters, especially who do not speak english well will be argued the and use this as a fear tactic. They also are banning or trying to ban Drivethrough Voting and 24hour Voting which were used in the 2020 elections for the first time in harris county. We know thats home to houston and a growing number of immigrant voters. The beauty that is happening is that in a lot of these counties, immigrant voters, a lot of other organizations are working in coalition, and they actually are seeing this. And theyre activating their voices. Theyre participating their elected officials. This is time where everyone needs to take this as seriously as participating in 2020 and making sure that we make sure the Voter Suppression laws are not enacted. And i think each you have are underscoring something that happened last november. It was a rising Multicultural America that voted in force and made a regime change. It was african americans. It was latinos. It was asian. It was white. It was a future forward. And now were seeing is a republican party that doesnt like the future that is already present and that is voting. So i want to thank you, Juanita Tolliver and Christine Chen for joining me tonight. Maria, ill speak to you later in our hour about In The Heights. Beginning with the nato summit. And including a facetoface with russian president vladimir putin, told Nbc News he believes relations between the countries are at their worst ever. But Secretary Of State Antony Blinken tells nbcs Andrea Mitchell he is optimistic about Americas Place in the world. This meeting with President Putin is not happening in a vacuum. President biden will be coming off a very successful summit of the g7, nato summit, a meeting with the eus leaders, and these democratic alliances are an incredible source of strength for us, a unique asset that russia doesnt enjoy, china doesnt enjoy. And were finding that we are able to bring them together effectively, diplomatically, politically, economically, militarily, and thats a very strong foundation on which to engage the challenges posed by Russia Or China or anyone else for that matter. Joining me now is Hague T Host of Youtube Series oh my world. The former experience for the u. S. Mission to the United Nations and the former director for Syria And Lebanon at the National Security council. Hager, thank you so much for joining me. My first question to you, here is what biden had to say in advance of this meeting. What should we make of it . Take a listen. The best way to deal with this is for he and i to meet, he and i to have our discussion. I know you dont doubt that ill be very straight forward with him. About our concerns. Why do you think he hasnt changed his behavior in spite of everything the u. S. Has done to this point . Hes vladimir putin. How much tension should we expect of these meetings, hager . Listen, he its definitely gg to be tense. President biden has said that he is going to let putin know what he wants him to know, right . Those are his exact words in his speech on friday. And i expect him to be straight forward with him and say this is a type of behavior were not going tolerate. Were not going to tolerate you interfering in our elections, allowing hackers to hack our government and to pursue ransomeware attacks on our country and our infrastructure. Were not going to allow you to interfere in Ukraine And Sir where this way. So i do expect him to be straight. But i also expect him to tell him by the way, these are the things we want to work on. We want to work on the iran deal. We want to work on arms control. He has said and secretary of State Blinken has said that the goal is to create this kind of stable relationship through which they can have this dialogue and these conversations. And that is very important. But it is being to be tense, and i do believe that is why President Biden has said that he does not want to do a Press Conference with President Putin. I think its because he doesnt want that putin and he doesnt want the public and the Press Harping on details and signs that would hype that tension up. Is it the fact they dont want the tension or is it that Biden Is trying to put putin in his place, saying that they are not on level ground, given all of the potential nefarious activity that russia seems to be behind . And when i say this, im talking about the potential ransomeware incidents, the hacking that were seeing, and the list goes on. That could certainly be it. Of course, you know, when up was at the White House, we used to view things in that light, and you definitely see it with this administration, right. For example, thats how theyve approached Saudi Arabia and not dealing with the Crown Prince. They dont view the Crown Prince on the level of President Biden which is completely true and completely fair. So it could be that. But in their words, President Biden has said that he doesnt want the press focusing on details that could undermine his key message or make it seem as though that could weaken his points. I understand what he means. What he means is he is probably a little bit concerned that people this is this is the very first meeting the two of them will have since Biden Is president. And following four years where we had a previous president who really did not stand up to President Putin and communications really do matter, even though President Trump did impose sanctions. Public communications and private Communications Matter heavily. And so i think President Biden doesnt want to distract from his message. Now there are pros and cons to this. The pro is that on one hand, there is some control that they can have there because the Press Conference may not run out of their hands. But on the flip side, the russians are master manipulators, and theyre going to go tell the world what went on in the meeting, even if not all of it was true, and then the White House will be left chasing the message that is going to be a little frustrating. Remember, this is going to be the first step in many to try and increase the pressure on russia and tell them flat out what we will and wont accept. Hagar, nbcs own Keir Simmons had a chance to sit down with putin. Take a Listen And Id love your reaction. When President Biden was asked whether he believes you are a killer, he said i do. Mr. President , are you a killer . Over my tenure, ive gotten used to attacks from all kinds of angles and from all kinds of areas and under all kinds of pretext and reasons, but with different caliber and fierceness. And none of it surprises me. As far as harsh rhetoric, thing is an expression of overall u. S. Culture. This is a very different tactic under trump. Under trump basically, when similar questions were asked of Donald Trump, he basically said that we have to look at ourselves before we point over to russia. This is a complete reversal. Biden is being very clear of what he thinks of putin, and putin is trying to deflect. What how how is Putins Strategy walking in now that its clearly going to be a bit tense . What is he thinking . I expect President Putin to deny absolutely everything that biden throws his way. So the meeting itself may not be very productive because youre going have biden say dont hack our government, dont interfere in our elections, dont interfere anywhere. Dont allow hackers to pursue ransomeware attacks. And putin is going to smirk the way he did in the interview with Keir Simmons and say i have no idea what youre talk about, thats not who we are. If you really want to pursue positive relations, this is not the way to deal with me, right . He is going to be difficult, and he is going to be a little insecure. As Secretary Of State, blinken said biden will be coming off these meets from the g7 and the nato summit. And nato is the biggest thorn in putins side. He hates nato. Its his biggest threat. And the reason for that is nato continues to grow and it continues to accept countries as members that run up to russias border. And it was one of the things that really concerned us, by the way, when former President Trump used to say i dont know about nato. We were concerned that he was getting that Talking Point from putin himself. Biden is going to come into this meeting very strategically in Switzerland On Neutral Ground and go in there with having had these meetings, having it look as though all these countries are behind him, its a unified front. So that will shake putin a little bit. Even if the meeting seems not productive, which i expect it to be, it is one step in twisting putins Arm A Little Bit to say, you know, were not alone in this. Weve got all of these folks behind us, and were not going rest, right . This just the beginning of the biden administration and their efforts to rally international coalition to object to russias nefarious behavior. I want to underscore something you mentioned. One of the biggest challenges that america and the nato countries have with russia specifically is that this idea of Cyber Security and cyber interference is kind of like a Pinkie Swear. Im not going to do it. But there is no real type of repercussions in the event that someone, some nation does that to a country. What do we have at our disposal, what tools do we have at our disposal to enforce this Pinkie Swear so that when ransomeware does run amok, that there are consequences for folks such as the russian government . I am so glad you asked this question, because it is a really tough one. And i lived it in the government. And its a difficult one. Its tough nut to crack. I happen to come from the sanctions world. I worked at the Treasury Department for a very long time. When i was at treasury, there were Executive Orders that had developed to sanction those engaged in what was called malign cyber activity. So to encompass a range of cyberrelated issues. Even at treasury we knew this wasnt the silver bullet, that this may not be the best way, but we were trying to figure it out at the time. Youve seen the government do it since. It continued under former President Trump and biden to sanction those types of actors. What needs to happen at the end of the day is and what would be preferable is an international body taking that responsibility and not just having it be unilateral from the united states. Hagar chemali, thanks for all that enlightenment today. Thanks for being with us. Thank you. The New York times reports that the doj subpoenaed apple in 2018 for information about an account that belonged to don mcgahn, trumps former White House council, according to two people briefed on the matter. One of the source told The Times apple only notified mcgahn last month. Its still unclear what the fbi agents were scrutinizing, nor whether mr. Mcgahn was their specific focus. This follows news that trumps doj secretly seized personal data from reporters and democratic members of congress. Earlier this week, former Attorneys General Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr each denied knowledge of any secret subpoenas, but House Speaker Nancy pelosi is skeptical. She spoke earlier today. How could it be that there could be an investigation of other members in the other branch of government and the press and the rest too and these easterns general did not know . So who are these people . And are they still in the Justice Department . Joining me now to discuss is nbc correspondent ken dilanian. I have a question for you. How could they not know that this was happening . Walk me through it. Thats an excellent question. I think its one the Inspector General of the Justice Department will hopefully get to the bottom of. Hes investigating this matter. But this is a complicated issue that goes beyond the typical partisan food fight, maria teresa, because the prosecution of leaks has been going on for a long time. In fact, the Obama Administration prosecuted more people for leak classified information than any other administration in history. So there are Career Prosecutors at the Justice Department, Career Civil Servants who are only too happy to try to put people in prison if they think they leaked classified information. And patiently theyre willing to go after Reporters Phone records and democratic Members Congress Phone records to do it. Normally the Attorney General and the people at the top of the Executive Branch would rein those prosecutors in, would say hey, there are competing interests here. Leaks are bad, but so is investigating so is grabbing Reporters Phone records there is a first Amendment Issue here. So is grabbing the records of democratic members of congress. But in this administration, you had Donald Trump screaming about leaks. You had Jeff Sessions saying he was going prosecute leakers. And its very possible that an investigation got approved and certain things were green lit, and then the prosecutors ran with it. Thats the story were getting from people close to jeff session, Rod Rosenstein and Bill Barr, all of whom say they never approved a subpoena for the records of the chairman of the House And Intelligence committee. It appears that one democratic staffer was the focus of this investigation, but we now have seen subpoenas that went to Apple And Microsoft looking for Email Addresses and Phone Records associated with more than 100 different Email Addresses and Phone Numbers, including Adam Schiff and eric swalwell, two members of congress. So that needs to be explained. I think your question is a good one, but one theory is some prosecutors thought they had a green light to do things and they went ahead with it. I have a question for you. Its my understanding that apple that notified these individuals. It wasnt the department of justice. Can you speak to that . And is that unusual . Oh, yes. This whole thing is unusual. The fact that the doj got a judge to order a Gag Order to prevent Apple And Microsoft from telling these people that their records had been grabbed. Normally, you would be told if the government goes after your records and you have a chance to litigate and quash that subpoena. In this case they convinced the judge that the investigation had to remain secret. And Apple And Microsoft expressed frustration about that, although interestingly that. Didnt say they went to court to challenge the Gag Order. Thats question i have for them if they havent answered yet. Yes, once the Gag Order was lifted, it wasnt the biden Justice Department which you would think would happen, it was apple that sent sort of a weird email to members of congress. One source i tatum talked to said they thought it was spam it was so weirdly worded. Thats how they learned their records had been seeds. They also retrieved minors. There is one minor involved in this incident. And im assuming it was a congressional Staffers Kid or was it a member of Congress Child . And why would they go after a minor . Well, here is how that could happen. So they subpoenaed the records of say a democratic staffer who is under investigation, and then they saw 100 Phone Numbers that that staffer was communicating with, and they send a subpoena to apple saying i want the records associated with these it was actually 70 Something Phone numbers and 30 Something Email addresses, not knowing who theyre attached to. So if a congressman happened to use one of his Childrens Phone to talk to a staffer at some point, thats how that would happen. It doesnt mean they were targeting the minor. But nonetheless, you know, for these members or whoever it was, its very disconcerting to know the Justice Department was secretly spying on you, essentially, especially because, maria therese sack, these are members of the intelligence committee. We trust them with the nations most closely guarded secrets. They are briefed on covert Cia Action and all kinds of intelligence matters. So the idea that if they werent trusted, their access should have been cut off that didnt happen. Its really a very strange situation. Ken, i think the challenges that in the silo it seems strange. But when you realize what they were investigating is the same people that were looking into the Russia Connection potentially with trump, and then you hear more about the access of the stuff that youre covering oftentimes with National Security and how russia seems to be a thread through our elections and through these investigations, it really gives a pause and say what is happening . Take a step back. It seems to be all interconnected somehow. Ken, i want to thank you for joining us this evening. I know that it was a bit of a fun jumping through the hoops, but im super appreciative of your insights. Great to be with you. Thanks, maria teresa. Thank you. It brought an end to Benjamin Netanyahus 12 consecutive years as leader. Moments ago, Secretary Of State Antony Blinken said the u. S. Is looking forward to Working Losli with the new Prime Minister. A spokesperson for hamas has also reacted to the news. He said the Shake Lineup not change the way they deal with the israeli government. Nbc news Foreign Correspondent Kelly Cobiella is live from tel aviv. No doubt a Sea Change in israeli politics tonight. This is a big, big deal. The Knesset Voting to confirm this new Coalition Government by a razorthin margin. Just one vote, 6059. We have been told all week long this would be a very close vote, that this Coalition Government couldnt afford to lose a single lawmaker. And there was intense pressure on a lot of these right wing lawmakers who are part of this government to drop out, pressure on the part of Benjamin Netanyahu. When this vote went through, the former Prime Minister sat stonefaced, subdued, staring straight ahead. And then after a moment, got up and shook Naftali Bennetts hand. Naftali bennett, the new Prime Minister of israel, sworn in shortly after that vote. Has already held his first cabinet meeting, has already gotten congratulations from the White House and President Biden who called who said that israel has no better friend than the u. S. , and also offered his congratulations to the Prime Minister and his new cabinet. The two men already on a Phone Call as well, confirming the u. S. Israel alliance and pledging to work together going forward. But there will be differences, notably on the Iran Nuclear Deal and those talks. Earlier today in a smeech in the knesset that he was strongly opposed to reforming the Iran Nuclear Deal, to the u. S. Rejoining that deal. The majority of Latino Cast in the film stands out in a moment when Hollywood Latino actors have very little visibility. The film adapted from the Musical And Hamilton cocreator Linmanuel Miranda tells the story of residents and Business Owners in new York Citys washington heights. During production, miranda fought to achieve portrayals of latinos that defy stereotypes. They moved away from the worn out tropes typically seen in blockbuster movies and instead celebrated the blockbuster films. Joining me is ak Tor And Author of before there was you. I watched this in one of the prescreenings. When you had a conversation and were you that leader trying to organize daca recipients, i was filled with joy. Talk to me a little bit about that experience. He oh, my gosh, sweetie, people know me about 40 years ago i came to New York to be an actor. But i turnedna a journalist. So this is my message to everybody out there. Really is like never give up on a dream. Never give up on a dream. And i think In The Heights in many ways is never give up on a dream. This has been in creation for so long. I mean, it starts in Lin Manuels Dorm Room and leslie ann, slowly gets on broadway. And many stops and starts to get to this actual point and then its a pandemic. Are you kidding me . Its a pandemic. So right now, youre right. This is a film helping to change the narrative. Entirely about who we are. You know, i lived in washington heights, and im like, yeah, this is a film, its a musical. We were dancing on the fire escapes. We were in fact making music wherever weigh are, and also it was a community that was really challenged. I mean, when i was living there in the 1980s, this is when crack was flooded into this neighborhood. And you know why . Because it was easy to get in and out of washington heights. And thats why they allowed the drugs to flood into our communities. It wasnt us. It was easy Drug Dealing for outsiders coming into our communities. This is a movie, you know, maria theresa, finally saying this is who we are. We dont all dance all the time. But we do. I love when people ask me how is your thanksgiving different from ours, and i say well, we eat our turkey. We move the table and dance. We do that. What i loved about this film was the nuance and characters. I identified with the young women, it was so much my experience. One young woman, it was the first to go to college and the other young woman who wanted to be able to exercise her artistic abilities based on her talent, not because she was latee that. Then there was the young man who found out that he was a dreamer, he wassion documented. So he wasnt able to pursue his dreams. Talk about that. It captures the essence of being latino in america. I want to give a Shout Out to the screenwriter, john chu. But every single word that you see, which, to me, is poetry, is because it came through her. And what she did is take a script that was written for the stage and adapt it to a very 2020, 2021 reality. There was no undocumented Story Line in the play. Kiara made that happen in the film because we needed to talk about whats happening thousand. And the reaction that youre seeing from latinos and latinas and others across the country are just saying its helping us to understand what that feels like. Gregory diaz, who play this is character is a star on his own. A lot of these actors were unknown, really, so i guess the biggest name would have been marc anthony. Or jimmy smiths. But theres a lot of love in terms of giving many latinas voice. I want to address the criticism, because i know its out there, and i think everybody involved in this film, i just had an hourlong conversation with my daughter as well. Yes, we live in a very critical time in our country. The Idea And Notion about talking about not having enough black, latino, afrolatino presence is being heard. Theres a lot of critique but a lot of love, maria theresa. Because in our work as journalist, which is to correct a narrative. We can do both things. We can hear a critical voice and say yes, yes, we have to think about giving more visibility to afrolatinos, and we can go celebrate this movie, have a great time, be dancing, screaming in the aisles, by the way, take your tissues. I think one of the challenges we see is the lack of representation in hollywood, that there is less than 7 , i believe, of hollywood in executive positions in film but we are 20 of the population. Its lack of representation that allows the stereotypes and allows bad politicians to rise, because People Tonight know who we are. How is this different . Well, i think this is different because there was a very concerted effort to, again, bring our community and all of its beauty and simplicity. Theres a couple of words that i want to say that are actually written by kiara which are, small ways of asserting our dignity, little details that show the world that we are not invisible. And if you look at this film and see some of those little details, theres these beautiful scenes where theyre just shooting our food. And youre like, how can this be so beautiful . Thats what makes this film different is those little details made of love for latinos and latinas, immigrants and All Of Us go watch In The Heights, bring tissue.
