But youre on the scene. Tell us what youre Seeing And Hearing for police and fire. Yes, what were seeing here is a there are Bullet Holes in the walls and cars. It is very scary scene. Police have told us that three individuals are with rifles and handguns fired into a crowd of people attending a concert, just after midnight in miami. What kind of concert was this . When did this take place . Gives us a little bit of background on what was happening. The investigation is still very preliminary. Things have not yet told us all the details about the concert. But it did happen around 12 am to 1 am, today on sunday. And the Concert Goers were outside the avenue when the gunmen came out of their cars and fired indiscriminately at them. Police are telling you that this is a targeted act of violence. Can you explain why they believe that . Police have not yet told us why they have believed that. But they did ride into the concert a white vehicle, a pathfinder. Before getting out and being armed. So i cant say for sure until police tell us. The Trouble Thing about all this right now, even though this incident happened according to devoun, around midnight. Police are still on the search for that white Nissan Pathfinder. Which would make you believe that there are still several suspects who are out there on the scene. Devoun, there are people that described just a horrific situation where there were people who got into regularly hills and were on the way to hospitals after the shooting. Besides ambulances they are on the scene taking people to different hospitals there. Yes, that is correct. Im actually on my way to the hospital now because a Family Members. Police have told us hospitals in Miami Date and broward have taken people of our injured in the shooting. Again, it was 20 to 25 that were hit by bullets. Police are not told us the condition of all of those. But we know at least one is in critical condition. Devoun, before we let you go. This white Nissan Pathfinder pulls up, according to the reporter from the Miami Herald, jumps out, Assault Weapons and handguns, and start firing into large crowds. So this is an ambush. Firing into a crowd of basically people who are dancing. I mean, they are not they are shooting into an unarmed crowd of people. The craven cowardice of this is unbelievable. Miami dade is the county police, huge force down there. Very large, very good. And they are going to have all of their Man Power out. As will all of the cities. Theres another 26 Police Departments in the dade county. They are all going to be looking for this car. They need the publics health. They have to leverage that. Hopefully they will have a quick press conference. Get that information, start talking about it, this is really a dangerous situation. These people are loose. They could do it again. It is a very optimistic outlook. Democrats though are not trying to shy away from this topic. In fact, theyre keeping it front and center. And really trying to move forward with their own alternative ideas. And that includes establishing what is called a select committee. It would allow House Democrats to move forward and investigate the effects and the events that led up to january six, on their own. The reason that we got to this point was because that procedural motion to move forward the legislation in the senate was blocked by senate republicans. And in large part due to the fears over political repercussions of what this independent commission could find, as they move forward in their own investigation. There were only six republican senators that did sign on with the democrats in order to try to move this legislation forward. But it was. Blocked those six republicans though, including senators mitt romney, susan collins, lisa murkowski, rob portman, Ben Sasse and bill cassidy. And of those sick, there was very strong reaction, especially from congressional democrats. Coming out against the fact that there were more publicans that would support you trying to find the truth around what led to the attack at the capitol on january six. A very scathing statement from House Speaker Nancy pelosi. Already just part of that statement. It said quote, Mitch Mcconnell asked senate republicans to do than him a quote, personal favor, and vote against january six commission. In doing so, Mitch Mcconnell asked them to be complicit in his undermining other truth of january six. But as to what happens now with House Democrats, potentially moving forward on this elect committee. That would allow it a partisan way, houston across to investigate what happened. And it would have subpoena power. They would bring witnesses forward to testify. They can schedule various hearings. But it wouldnt have that bipartisan nature of the commission, on that panel. Which areva original leadership was really trying to establish, in order to investigate what happened. But we heard yesterday, from Congresswoman Natalie Dean when she spoke with ali velshi, about what this commission could really look at. This commis fortunately, We E subpoena power. We will be able to get at the truth of what happened on january six. The greatest attack on our democracy. But we should have done it by way of an independent commission. Sadly, it will have to be now through oversight in the house. With subpoenas. With getting at the truth. A Selecting Text messages, phone calls. We will find out who was a part of this. But it would have been served our country better to have seen it an independent commission. And with that independent commission we did hear from Senate Majority leader chuck schumer, who said that he could put this through a vote again on the senate floor. Even without having all ten of the senators from the republican side on board, in order to break that 60 vote threshold. So, not a very optimistic path forward that could actually move forward. New concerns about the Summer Games in tokyo, with the Opening Ceremony less than two months away, japan is battling a surge In Covid cases. The Prime Minister extending the State Of Emergency in tokyo and nine other areas. Unlike in years past, when fans poured in from around the world, foreign spectators have been banned from this summers games. And now the head of the olympic Organizing Committee is hinting that japanese fans might not be allowed either. A final decision is expected next month. And could mean athletes competing in empty stadiums, with no cheering crowds. Still, olympic officials insist the games will Go On. Testing, masks and Temperature Checks will be in force. And no singing or chanting allowed. Even without spectators, some 90,000 people, including athletes and their delegations, are expected in tokyo in july. And with less than 3 of Japans Population fully vaccinated, there is growing public concern about welcoming in delegations from around the world. This man says he is worried about new covid variants been brought in from overseas. Polls show 60 to 80 of japanese want the games to be called off. Are people booking flights . Whats going on . E peop i think what right nowt were doing is going along with our old routine. Just preparing if youre trying to qualify. Or just preparing the team for training to get ready. Theres so many different concerns that we all have, obviously, with coronavirus and the postpone it. By think right now athletes are trying to focus on what they can control, which is their own activity. Their own preparation. Yeah, but a lot of sports, many of them are as much as they are physical, there are a lot of Head Games that take place. So when you hear 70 of the japanese public do not want the olympics to continue, doctors and japan say no thank if it is postponed another year which, in all honesty may be a better idea, otherwise, go ahead and prepare and get ready as if its going to happen because, if you let all these other things seep in, its going to distract you, and its going to hinder your participation if you do, in fact, have to play. You mentioned it being delayed for another year. A lot of people are talking about postpoing it to summer 2022. Former Nbc Sportscaster Bob costas weighed in. It should be postponed, not canceled. If they postponed it until the summer of 2022, as a oneoff, its would go back to the way it was before the 90s, the Winter And Summer games took place every four years in the same calendar year. Under these circumstances, it makes sense. It is an interesting concept. It is getting a lot of momentum. What do you think . I actually agree with bob. I think right now theres so many variables up in the air. Like i said earlier, athletes are trying to focus on whats important to them, what they need to do and what they can control. I know there is a waiver that is expected to be signed and protocols and the precautions arent as specific as they probably could be. I feel right now that just all the stars arent aligned in any way, shape or form, and that next year would actually be a better situation, but i understand its difficult for the ioc, difficult for the japanese because it is right around the corner and its a lot of preparation and a lot of money that goes into this. How important is it, especially in the olympics, to be able to look up in the stands and see the american flag, to be able to hear the american fans cheering you on that wont be there this year . To be telling the truth, Theres Nothing like it. Theres nothing like having that Fan Influence there, you derive energy from them. Having my family and friends at every limbic games i ever played in, especially my Mom And Dad was very meaningful. You just get that extra jolt of energy and support. Right now i think whats important, also, to note is that athletes are trained to deal with difficult situations, and i think right now the athletes have conformed to understanding that theyre not going to have their friends and family in the stands now and they have to focus on what they need to do and absorb that support through Zoom Calls or Social Media or on the phone. Theyre going to be competing in a little bit of a vacuum if the games do go forward that.
