Harry dunn has been a Capitol Police Officer for 13 years. His first glimpse of the chaos came as rioters stormed the capitols western side. I had a rifle that they a long gun. And we were told that they wanted us to stay away from the crowds. So we took a position of advantage. So we were overseeing, surveying the crowd. So you have a military assault rifle. You show up. And youre on that upper tier looking down on this riot. What do you see . Im seeing thousands and thousands and thousands of people. And theyre just continuing to come. Its waves of them. And they are fighting with the officers down there. And you see the rioters down there. They have their weapons. They had grenades, smoke grenades. They had bear spray. They had Gas Masks on. So they were prepared. They knew that this was Going to happen. One officer, brian sicknick, died. More than 140 police were injured. They were calling out the whole time, traitors. Join us. We are the Good guys. We like cops. They sure had a Good way of showing that. How did that sound like you to when theyre like were the blue lives matter guys, we love the cops, were on your side, help us . It enrages you. It enrages you. You literally want to just say get the hell out of here. They had the nerve to be beating officers with the blue lives matter flag. People say that that didnt happen, its on tape. They Got some nerve saying that theyre doing this for us. What . In what world does that make sense . As the capitol was overrun, Officer Dunn was called to respond inside the building. Youre called in because the buildings been breached. And now theres 60 of you and you guys know the building. What do you see . You walk up those steps and you just see 100 or so people running around in there like its a rave. Theyve Got their arms around statues, taking selfies. I had a moment where he just paused. I said this cant be real life. What do you do . Do you say youve Got to Go . Do you fire in the air . Yell at them . You put your Hands On them . What do you do . Get the [ bleep ] out. Youre not welcome here. Get out. This is our house. This is my house and i said youve Got to Go. You had people coming up asking where the bathroom was. People were asking hey, wheres the exit . The same way you came in. Get the [ bleep ] out. The calls on the radio Got more severe. They went from hey, theyre breaching this window or hey, theyre overrunning us here to hey, youve Got an officer trapped surrounded by people. Youve Got staffers that are calling police because theyre hearing banging on the doors. In this video, shot by a West Virginia lawmaker, Officer Dunn is seen trying to reason with the group of protesters. What about the fact that you are a black officer and there were guys in there who were wearing Camp Auschwitz tshirts . Was being a black officer there a different experience for you . Was that a big factor for you . It was a time, one instance, it was off of the rotunda area, and i was still holding the hallway. And these people are standing there yelling. So i started talking to them, started talking about why theyre there and Joe Biden didnt win the election and its stolen and i started talking about me voting. I voted for Joe Biden. Did my vote not count . And then one person said, you hear that . This N Word voted for Joe Biden. And they just started booing. And the people that were with them joined in with them and said yeah, this N Word, f you. This N Word voted for Joe Biden. F you, f you. Boo. What do you think it means about the state of america, where we are today . Youve had a little bit of time now to process it. We have a long way to Go. Weve Got a long way to Go. And what makes that even scarier is that people still dont acknowledge what happened as bad. Yeah, it wasnt cool but it wasnt a Big Deal. It wasnt a Big Deal . What if they succeeded . More than 400 protesters have been charged for the capitol breach. Dominik pezzola is in jail awaiting trial on 11 counts including Conspiracy And Assault and could face up to 20 years in prison. He pled not guilty. Robert gieswein is facing charges for assault with Aerosol Spray and a Baseball Bat. Jessica watkins is also behind bars after a judge said she was too dangerous to be released prior to trial. Shes pled not guilty. Riley williams is charged with four counts including aiding or abetting the theft of Government property. Qanon Shahman Jacob Chanzly has pled not guilty to six charges. Only Chancelys Lawyer responded to nbcs requests for comments on the charges. He said chansly is in the process of reconciling with the propaganda, words and actions of former President Trump. Ashli babbitt died of a Gunshot Wound to the shoulder. Her family accused police of an unjustified use of deadly Force And Plan to file a lawsuit. The Justice Department found insufficient evidence to file charges. President trump was impeached for incitement of an insurrection but was acquitted.
