We dont think it is going to go there, but it is all related at this point to this china bill. There is procedural votes because of senate rules. The republicans are doing some things right now stretching out making the Senate Use all of its time before they can get to final pass of this china legislation. Once they do get to final passage, which again could be today, could be tonight, could be the middle of the night, could even be tomorrow, then democrats are committed to holding a vote on the January 6th commission. And that is what everyone is watching to see if they will come out to support it to move on to that legislation. Yesterday Senator Lisa Murkowski was talking to reporters about that legislation. She was critical of her members that she says doesnt want to find the truth. Also of Senate Minority Leader Mitch Mcconnell to find out what happened. Officer goodman was there, the hero that day leading the rioters away from the senate chamber. When she found that out she gave him a hug. You have Eugene Goodman guarding the very chamber that he was protecting the inhabitants of on January 6th. We just Cant Pretend Nothing bad happened. Or that people just got too excitable. It is important to lay that out. It is basically the leader of her own party who has been lobbying for days now. What chances between now and the other vote. Senator Susan Collins, who wants to see changes, the math just isnt there. The math is not there. There is only three republican senators in favor of defeating a Phil Buster and moving on to a vote. They need seven more and i dont know where they will find that seven. Some republican senators including Mike Braun of indiana said it will not get the 60 votes and it will be Phil Bustered whether or not they agree to the changes in structuring the staff that some like Susan Collins has back. And it gets to the fact that these are supporters of trump that attacked this capitol. Last night in a steech that was deeply symbolic in the future they had Speaker Ryan talking about President Trump. Lets Play Sound of what he said. Lets talk about that. If the conservative cause depends on the appeal of one personality then were not going year. Voters looking for threadleader. The former president just put out a statement moments ago aggressively attacking the former speaker of the house calling anymore a curse on the republican party. We have to have this commission to show the american people who those people were that day. Who came, how they came, and what went on here. We want to get to that developing news this morning with new reaction coming in from that new Cyber Attack from russia and what microsoft warns is an active incident. The russian Hacker Group behind the solar Winds Attack targeting two dozen groups. The timing of the hack coming at such an incredibly delicate time, just three weeks before national security analyst, author of messing with the enemy, surviing in a social media world. Let me start with what we know here. What are you hearing this morning now from the White House and from your sources in the administration. Theyre essentially saying what you are right now. This could not have come at a more perilous time. What action will this administration take. The government saying they had no information about this attack, but we know it upported attacks like this in the past. They warned that they infiltrated an Email System for international development. Hitting more than 150 groups in at least 24 countries but really focusing right here on the u. S. The russian Hackers Burrowed in. They say it is the same behind that massive solar Winds Attack. This is the first statement from u. S. Officials. They say in a statement were aware of the potential compromise of u. S. Aid there an Email Marketing Platform and were working to better understand the extent of the compromise. I can tell you based on my conversations here behind the scenes theyre working to sort through exactly what happened. The reaction from the front line, which is unsurprisingly that they dont have any anything in mind. I think because it is what we have seen related to solar winds. They did a great job using signatures and thinking through different patterns that russias foreign intelligence has been using to do hacking. This is also consistent with the behavior and the targeting. Also, u. S. Government assets and Human Rights Organizations and think tanks. It fits the targeting pattern. I think the last thing to note is that it is using Third Party and what are american systems to target americans. One of the big challenges that we have right now in the country is who Depends Dot Come . Cyber command has part of the Dot Gov and dot mil protux. Its really a barrier for our organizations to defend the u. S. Domestically. We are constantly innovating targets. And they really picked it up according to the Microsoft Announcement in april. He is the target of the investigation out of brooklyn. He is one who the u. S. Treasury sanctioned and determined him an active russian agent for at least a decade and what he did in the election, the treasury was sort of the suggest of the treasury sanctions is he released a number of audio recordingings recordings. Our reading as our listening of these tapes suggesting that he is misrepresenting them. They dont necessarily reveal anything new, but the u. S. Treasury said that he had misleadingly edited them and formed this false narrative about corruption. Right as we were getting you hooked up we learned from one of your colleagues that a just judge gave this request for the appointment of a Special Master to review materials seized by sports in the Juliani Investigation saying it is to ensure the perception of fairness. We rr ported that the Special Master was under investigation, whats the significance of that. What happened here is the Justice Department executed search warrants on Rudy Julianny and his office as well as a lawyer that worked with joule guiliani. There could be potentially Attorney Client Information in the information seized by the Justice Department. A lawyer that sort of worked on the edges of trump world, so what a Special Master does is essentially holds the evidence like in escrow and then we valuates what pieces of evidence can be used in court and can be potentially released more confidently. You know as well as i do, we both understand, that republicans will almost certainly argue that that is even more partisan than this independent commission outside of the structures of congress. I think that between doing nothing and doing something namely that Ving An Inquiry and a select commission or committee, i think you have to have a select committee. And i think we will probably go in that direction, but hallie i think this is a chance for the senate to do the right thing. 35 democrats voting to pass this bill. It wraps up all of the business by December 31st as an equal five and five democrats and republicans on the commission. And then third and finally it makes sure that if any subpoenas are issued it would be done under bipartisan cooperation. So this is something they should take up. Its aimed at a broad change in thinking about what role the federal government plays in peoples lives. It also, as you mentioned, raises taxes. The White House believes theres public support when it comes to raising taxes on the wealthiest americans and corporations. This Mining Company that was trying to expand their Mining Operations in new south wales, the judge actually said that that Mining Company can continue to expand its Mining Operations and potentially continue to pollute. The reason you mentioned this was unprecedented. It is. The reason why its important is because in a common Law System where this was decided, it sets a precedent. That means that going forward as you mentioned, all of these governments, whoever comes after this current government and this current government included, theyre all going to be obliged by law to protect the future generation. You could call this the first shots fired in legal intergenerational warfare. It sets a precedent that not protecting the environment is in violation of the law.
