Families and the coworkers because we know that so many are feeling deeply this loss of their Loved Ones and their friends. The Santa Clara County sheriff said they would be holding another briefing later this hour. We assume that will have some more information about the incident itself, the Suspect And Number of people injured and killed. Well bring you that briefing when it happens live. Let me go back to Lindsey Reiser who were just hearing in the previous hour. Shes in california near the scene. Also joining us is a reporter from the San Jose Mercury News. He covers public Justice And Safety for the paper. Lindsey, let me start with you. You know, lets start with what we know. Take me back. When did we learn that there was an active incident . Catch us up on the timeline. Yeah, chuck. We heard shots fired calls around 6 30 this morning. Within an hour, the Sheriffs Office was announcing the shooting was announced dead. Like you said, a lot of details still left to be answered. For example, how that shooter who we just learned is male, how that shooter died. But were hearing multiple victims, not only multiple injuries but multiple fatalities. The exact number has not been disclosed but some of the victims are employees of this facility. It is the Valley Transportation Authority facility, just across The Street here. This is the main Transportation Hub for the area. This is a Big Bay Area suburb, of course, very close to downtown San Jose. And the Sheriffs Office headquarters is actually right next door to this vta facility. To give you a little geoographic lay of the land, this is a horseshoe here. And just moments ago, we saw dozens of employees walking, being walked with authorities across The Street, up these steps and down this path here to a county administration building. And of course, we were asking them how they were doing, if they were okay. Many were visibly shaken, chuck. Of course, we can all understand why and how distraught they are not knowing exactly what they have been through today, but some of them also told our producer, chris, they were told not to talk to the media, but some of them were absolutely shaken and distraught as they were walking by us. There should be another Press Conference here in about 30 minutes. Hopefully we can learn a little more, some questions that still arent answered, what kind of weapon was used, whether the shooting was inside or outside this vta facility, also something were looking to have answered, chuck. And lindsey, do we know it certainly has all the description of a potential Workplace Shooting. Do we know if the shooter was an employee . We dont know what the Shooters Relationship was to the facility yet. That is something, of course, everybody assumes when they hear of an area like this that was targeted, why . Was It Somebody who was recently fired or suspended . We havent confirmed that yet. But we will be working on that and well bring you the latest when we have it. And lindsey, what kind of impact on i mean, this is impacting we heard in the Press Conference theyre suspending a lot of commuter traffic. So this is really going to impact the entire city throughout the rest of the day. Yeah, it truly is. Of course, during the Press Conference, i was trying to talk to some of the employees here, but i heard them say as of noon, theyre going to be shutting down the right rail services. This is going to have a huge Ripple Effect. It already has. The court is really just down the road, of course, a lot of court systems, a lot of all the procedures werent able to go through because of covid, so a lot of people there not sure what was going on. Thats all been blocked off. Of course, the Ripple Effects for the Transit Authority as well now with the Light Rail being suspended as of noon. This is the main Transportation Hub serving San Jose. Let be bring in robert from the San Jose news. I think everybody is scrambling for more information. It is somewhat surprising how little confirmed information is out there. What is the reason for, i would argue, the delay in sort of some public confirmation . The delay is authorities sorting through this. I mean, we have heard news, you know, through our own sources about circumstances of the Shooting Wrrg right now, were in front of a home that caught fire right before the shooting occurred, and theres heavy Police Presence here, which is unusual for a fire scene, and our understanding is that the person who is believed to be the shooter lived here. Now, obviously, i know these reports are out here. I want to say, i dont want to speak for your News Organization. I know our News Organization hasnt confirmed that, but there may be some connection here. What are you hearing on the ground there, since you are that is the scene youre at right now . Yeah, its not a coincidence. What we understand is that the person lives at the house behind me thats being currently tended to for a fire is a Vta Employee in his 50s. As you can see live, theres a larger Police Presence coming up. So its starting to look like this is going to be a Focal Point of the investigation. Tell me more about the vta, how many employees, how often, what can you what details and context can you add about the facility for us . The vta is a very large organization that runs transit for the south bay, which is Santa Clara County, primarily Santa Clara County. Hundreds of operators, maintenance workers, and when the shooting occurred was during the busiest time of the day, when the system is really starting to boot up and get going. And during the Press Conference, the mayor, mayor licardo, hinted he had a lot more to say about what they have been working on when it comes to the implication was on gun safety. What more do you know about what the mayor was referring to there . There have been several initiatives over the past year and beyond to regulate through municipal Ordinances Access to guns, the kinds of guns that are allowed to be bought, so and those originated, you know, by other Mass Shootings that have occurred across the country, and has now unfortunately gotten a much more resonant catalyst because of what happened here locally today. Thats for sure. Robert, let me bring in jim kavanaugh, hes, of course, our nbc News Analyst when it comes to these events. Hes a longtime atf and criminal investigator. Jim, theres now two Crime Scenes here. Obviously, authorities are trying to piece all this together. We have very limited information. We want to be careful, too much speculation, youre a pro at this, but walk us through the Puzzle Pieces here that you see that you think investigators are trying to put together. Right, chuck. You know the Puzzle Pieces are all in the killers head. What the detectives and agents have to do is draw all that out through the physical evidence they find at the murder scene, and of course, wherever his Vehicle And Residence are. If in fact that is the residence, were not sure, the reporter was very clear, good reporting, telling us the straight facts. Maybe it is, but hes not sure. You know, its not unusual for these guys to murder someone at home, a partner, their Family Members, their kids, their mom and dad. You know, and then go off and seek revenge at the workplace. So he could have started a fire. He could have had a time delay. He could have threw a cigarette in a pile of clothes. He could have done a lot of things if he wanted to burn down his house and burn down himself when he went to the vta. So thats going to be pieced together by the investigators. You know, like i always say, hes dead. Theres no prosecution going to be here. So and if theres no accomplices or nobody supplied him the gun illegally or guns, there may be no defendants, so what can we gather to stop the next killing . Thats really key. You know, its so sad to see these Workplace Shootings because it seems to be Groundhog Day again, where an employee is having difficulty at work. They may be fired or terminated or let go. In the days or even weeks prior, and then they show up with a long, large gun or multiple guns and go in and kill everybody. Employers need to be expecting that when people are terminated, theyre under tremendous stress. And some people just cant take that stress. And they could come back. And if you have no security that will allow a person to walk across your Parking Lot, who you have recently terminated or had very difficult relations with, you dont have any security at all. So you need businesses need to understand that. You need to have some security. And a lot of these situations are exacerbated. Everybody, every witness in some of these cases, i dont know if it will hold trow here, chuck, we all Know Joe was a problem, he was always a problem, then he got fired and his head was going to explode. Everybody knows that, but nobody does anything. And an employer can hire private security officials for, you know, some period. The studies have shown this often happens in close timeframe to the events where theyre confronted by supervisors or fired. And so you know, its a peak time. And you can stop the person from entering your workplace with security. And you know, maybe avoid a mass murder. So all employers are leaders of their facilities. They need to think about this. It happens too much not to be ready to stop people walking across the Parking Lot with a long gun. I mean, dont allow it. Thats why i always think the open carry laws are just wrong for america. But we jim. Right, and at what point, you know, employers need to worry about security. What about the Mental Health . Like, you know, there comes a point, theres only so much an employer can be expected to do in intervening in somebodys personal crisis. At the same time, if you feel as if the rest of your employees are vulnerable to an employee or former employees personal crisis, what is the obligation . I say this somewhat rhetorically, because i think we deal with this, the mental Health Aspect to all of this is something in a free society we have been struggling with. Youre exactly right. You know, i love The Blues and lucy flores, im stressed, depressed, and a mess. Thats what america is, stressed, depressed, and a mess from the pandemic, from years of shootings, Mass Shootings. We have to recognize that. And stopping security at the end, what were talking about, is only at the end. So in the middle is your workforce. Are you providing them with some training, discussions, Counselling Availability that you have on site, or you pay for them to go remotely, and even before that, are we teaching children, young people, high school, college, where a lot of these shootings happen, too, Coping Skills . Coping skills. We use a general rubric of Mental Health, but most shootings arent related to people who are diagnosed mentally ill. Some are. The percentage of these is low. 20 , 25 , a low percentage. More of these are not that. Theyre criminal conspiracies like white hate, terrorism, international terrorism, or revenge, or workplace violence, or people who cant cope with life. And you know, you gotta be tough. You have to be knocked down, you have to be able to get back up over and over. Youre fired, youre sick, youre terminated. Things didnt work out. You got a car wreck. You dont kill everyone for that. People need to be understanding how life is going to be, and they need to be able to cope with it. We dont teach it in school. We dont teach it in workplaces. We need to start thinking about that. Plus, we need an overlay of reasonable Gun Laws that dont violate anybodys constitutional rights, but make society much safer. You know, the director, the new director of atf is in a hearing today. And for confirmation. There hasnt been a director in three out of the last 15 years. Thats a big mistake for america. I want to share a Viewer Email that just came in. And this viewer just said, im sorry to say it this way, but theres something demoralizing about the sameness of this incident. And i understand what the viewers coming at with this. And this gets at this numbness combined with is it time to deal with this in a national way . I think in many times, we isolate these incidents to, its a San Jose issue, its a Workplace Shooting over here. It sounds like youre thinking its time we are a nation thats coming out of what you just said, a pandemic, four years of very stressful politics, our polarizing politics. All of it is contributing to this. Do we need to be framing this differently . You know, youre exactly right. Youre answering the big problem with a big solution. Look, you dont win a war by making one big bomb usually. You have to have war on all fronts. You have to flank, you have a Navy And Air force, ground troops. No One Thing beats the enemy. You have to have a lot of longs. You have to have all kinds of elements in your attack against the problem. This the same with all this mass violence. We need all of those things to work together. No one of those things is going to fix it. We all have to understand its coming to your town, if its not already been there, its coming to your family if it hasnt bib there yet. What are we doing positivity to stop it, through Coping Skills, through better Mental Health counselling. Some cases, that is appropriate. Through fighting white nationalism. International terrorism, to reasonable Gun Laws. You know, california, one third of all the crime, guns are ghost guns. Think about that. One third are ghost guns. We need to put an end to that. We have so many tools we can do without hurting the lives of lawabiding citizens. You know, a little inconvenience to sign a form, or a little inconvenience to get on an airplane is something we all need to accept for the safety of society as a whole, but we tend to forget to do all these things when the News Cycle changes. And we need to really think about it. We have some of the best doctors and minds in Psychology And Psychiatry that can lay out training for business and schools for coping. I think that would be a real major change because i think a lot of that were going to find out we have a Man Choking on an empty grudge, and hes destroyed himself for it. This one appears to have two Crime Scenes but well wait for authorities and more confirmation. As we await that update, well turn to a political and legal story that involves the former president , donald john trump. The Washington Post and Associated Press are reporting a Special Grand Jury has been seated to consider evidence in the Manhattan District attorneys Criminal Investigation into Donald Trumps business dealings. The latest indication prosecutors believe they have found evidence of a crime. And it comes amid a flurry of reporting in the last few days surrounding the former president s legal trouble, including the long time cfo of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg, is under investigation. The new York Attorney general is pursuing a Criminal Investigation into trumps businesses and that the Attorney General is also conducting her probe in conjunction with the manhattan d. A. s office. Recently, prosecutors got their hands on millions of pages of Trump Documents after a lengthy battle to subpoena his financial records which went all the way to the Supreme Court. To be clear, the former president has not been charge would a crime, and nbc has not been confirmed the reports that a Special Grand Jury has been seated although the move would logically be the next step for prosecutors. Where does this story go next, and whether an indictment is handed down is going to have an enormous impact on our politics because donald Trump Isnt just any former president. Hes still the De Facto leader of the republican party. Republicans had a chance to make a clean break from trump after he lost the election, and instead, they embraced his lies about our democracy. They ousted Liz Cheney from leadership because of those lies and theyre blocking investigation into the siege on the capitol the lies incited, and now they face the fact their leader might be indicted in the coming months. With me now is Nbc News white House Correspondent Monica alba, sahil kapur, and andrew weissmann. I want to begin with you, andrew, to try to put some context around what does this Special Grand Jury convening mean, what Tea Leaves are you reading here . And what is the significance of the manhattan d. A. And state Attorney General essentially combining some Grand Jury Resources . Well, i do think its important to put it in context. Because just because a Grand Jury is convened doesnt mean that there will be an indictment. But here, theres a lot more. To remind viewers, you have the Manhattan District attorney has won two Supreme Court cases to get the accounting records of the Trump Organization. He has brought in in a way that is quite unusual outside experts, an Accounting Expert from fti, an outside accounting firm. A partner from paul weisz, who is an Expert Prosecutor and defense lawyer, and now, as you mentioned, chuck, people from the new York Attorney Generals Office, who have been conducting at least a civil investigation into apparently tax and related charges from a civil perspective. And those are now all aligned. If you put all of that together, and now its announced that there is going to be a Grand Jury sitting three days a week for at least the next six months, you know, that feels to me like its not just another shoe to drop. This starts feeling like the inevitable is going to happen. With a caveat, of course, you never know if theyre going to make it across the finish line, but with that context, this is clearly not a good development to say the least for the Trump Organization and individuals in that organization. So andrew, what would fit into what would make the indictment criminal on the Tax Front . So the big difference between civil and criminal is intent. So you could have civil liability where youre merely negligent or wrong, but to prove a criminal violation, you have to show that the individual or the organization that you are charging intended to do something wrong and in case of tax charges it can be an even higher standard, that they knew this was in violation of the tax laws. Now, there may be such proof already, and presumably, the new York Attorney Generals Office had evidence that they thought would rise to at least approaching that level, because otherwise, there would be very little reason to combine forces with respect to Criminal Investigation and to have people sent over from the new York Attorney Generals Office to assist in the Criminal Investigation of the Manhattan District Attorneys Office. Andrew, i know youre a little reticent sometimes to and for understandable legal reasons, about the Mueller Probe, but could you have used his Tax Returns during the Mueller Probe . Well, its interesting. We did not have general jurisdiction to go after any and all financial crimes. Everything that we did had to relate to the issue of russian interference, coordination with russian actors, or obstruction of justice. So that could encompass some financial information, but it is definitely not the free reign that the new York Attorney Generals Office and the Manhattan District Attorneys Office had. So i dont think the Tax Returns in and of themselves would have been a terribly interesting lead given our limited jurisdiction. But just to be clear from your Viewers Point of view, they obviously are something that is very interesting and could be potentially criminal, and were certainly something that could lead to civil liability at the federal and criminal level. Lets move to the politics here. Sahil, i had, my ep and i had a conversation last night about this story. Its both hugely consequential and possibly politically inconsequential, at least for a while. Republicans have been through this wash, rinse, and Repeat Cycle with Donald Trump and investigations for five years now. Are they numb to this . For the most part, chuck, yes, i suspect they are. I think the republicans break down into three categories with trump. Theres a small number of republicans like mitt romney, like Liz Cheney, who are vocally critical of him and are willing to rebuke him. Theres a small number of protrump diehards who are eager to defend him at any moment, as much as they can. And then theres the vast great middle, the silent majority, you can call them, who want to not talk about him, who want to avoid questions about him, who dont want to land in the crossfire. I suspect thats where most republicans are going to continue to be. The thing about President Trump is that he got very politically effective during the Mueller Probe, during the russia investigation, at treating investigations into him as a political conspiracy by his opponents. We saw the majorities of selfidentified republicans believed him on that with the mueller identification. We see that they believe his falsehoods and fabrications about a stolen election. Hes gotten very effective at this and hes using the same rhetoric, to call this a witch hunt, to say it was politically motivated. I would expect a lot more of that, and i would be surprised to see Party Leaders like Mitch Mcconnell or Kevin Mccarthy say a negative word about him during all of this. And heres the thing, when he turns it into grievance, and we have had five years of him sowing mistrust in institutions, particularly our legal institutions, does it you know, look, i have equated this politically to long term erosion is going to be noticeable when you look at it from a tenyear period, but you may not notice it in a sixmonth period. Thats right, chuck. And where the former president is very effective at this is he goes directly to the voters. It may be 30 or 35 of the country who ends up believing him, but thats a very significant 30 to 35 that votes reliably in republican primaries and this is why many politicians in his party are eager to go up against him, eager to cross him because they know theyll hear from the same voters that expect and demand that loyalty to him regardless of what it means for the institutions, regardless of what it means for the future of american democracy, if there is this widespread distrust in an election that by every legitimate account was properly carried out and that which Donald Trump lost. Monica alba, you have covered Donald Trump for quite some time. What is the level of nervousness in Trump World . And is it more of the Trump Organization is in much more trouble than Donald Trump the individual . Meaning he knows how to survive, and he doesnt sometimes care who gets crushed in his path. If Allen Weisselberg is collateral damage, so be it. This is about the constellation of key players here. And im told the former president is, of course, worried about the Trump Organization, and of course, his sons, eric trump, of whom is the one who is the most involved with this, and certainly was over the last few years. So this extends beyond him, of course, and then Allen Weisselberg, we learned just a couple weeks ago, we know he had been under investigation, his taxes specifically, but now we know he had been notified that the criminal probe extended to things that mr. Trump at the time had extended to him. Fringe benefits, things like tuition for a grandchild or cars. All of that now we know is being scrutinized. So absolutely, Donald Trump right now is very trepidatious about what this could mean for him and his family, not to mention all of his properties and the Trump Organization that is essentially where he lives right now. He moves for this hotter Summer Season up to the Bedminster Club from maralago, thats where he is right now. I can tell you, chuck, hes been in a lot of discussions with the people, the small circle of aides who are still around him. He wants to get back out there politically, even if its incredibly precarious right now. So hes planning to resume rallies as early as next month. Were talking just a couple weeks from now, and you bet, if the only thing about this investigation is his predictable response, calling everything politically motivated and a witch hunt, he is itching to do that on a way larger stage, and of course, that brings a lot of questions as well in terms of what other things he might say that could be problematic, and there are probably some close to him who are going to advise him to be very careful about what he says. He can release these 900word statements where hes trying to dismiss them or go after the democratic prosecutors, but it will be a different matter altogether when he gets back on the stage that he really hasnt been on for almost five months now, chuck. Monica, i assume their fear here is Allen Weisselberg flipping. Is there concern . Obviously, is that the real nervousness . Thats at the top of the list, absolutely. This is somebody who was extremely close to Donald Trump. If we look at perhaps the relationship between Michael Cohen and Donald Trump as something to help us understand how this happens in terms of people who were very close at one point and of course, that Relationship Sours and goes down the drain once Michael Cohen came out and started speaking against him. We saw how quickly at the time President Trump dismissed and distanced himself from cohen at the time, and we have seen since then, everything he has said. It was Michael Cohen himself who is now predicting he thinks these people around the former president will turn on him. He even speculated his own children might do that, of course. We have no indications thats the case, but Allen Weisselberg, i think, is the person to watch in the coming weeks. It is likely going to be months until we know whether these potential new criminal charges end up being what happens in the particular case. Just to refresh peoples memories. You are looking at the scene in San Jose, california, where were awaiting a briefing from authority after another Mass Shooting in this country. Heres what we do know thats confirmed. Multiple Law Enforcement officials tell Nbc News there are at least seven deaths from this shooting. It occurred at a Light Rail maintenance yard. The shooter is confirmed deceased. There has been some notable activity nearby a house that caught fire. And you heard San Jose Mercury News reporter tell us earlier in the hour that his reporting suggests theres a possibility the fire at that house could be connected to the shooter. As he said, a huge number of police at what is normally just what would be just mostly firefighters. Theres still a lot we do not know about these incidents. Well get the latest now. Well go back to our correspond on the ground there, Lindsey Reiser. We also have katherine schweit. She ran the Shooter Program to preven and respond to shootings. Were getting information slowly but surely. We now know the number of dead. I guess one piece of information we dont know is the seven casualties, that does not include the shooter, i believe, correct . Yeah, chuck. You read my mind. Were working to figure that out, if that seven number that we have confirmed from sources does include the shooter or does not. But we know, backing up a little bit, how this started, 6 30 this morning that call came in of an active shooter at this Valley Transportation Authority facility. This is a main Transportation Hub for this busy Bay Area suburb. Were very close to downtown San Jose. Within an hour, sheriffs officials told us that shooter was dead, and were working to figure out hout that shooter died. Just as you mentioned, theres still a lot of moving pieces and authorities are being pretty tightlipped about some of the details here. They have been holding somewhat hourly Press Conferences so a little more information trickles in. The Vta Building is behind me, and right next door is the headquarters for the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office. Its sort of a Horseshoe Area here. And just in the last hour, we saw dozens of employees walking two by two in a long line here from across The Street, and then into this area, which is a county administration building. Theyre calling this the family reunification area. So they have Grief Counsellors here. This is also where Family Members can see their Loved Ones, and anybody who has information about the shooting is also urged to contact the Sheriffs Office because theyre still investigating. A lot of different scenes in this area. As you mentioned, we heard rumblings of that House Fire that investigators were honing in orb of course, when something like this happens, everybody wants to know however logical, you know, it might be, what the motive was. And were hearing this could be a Workplace Shooting. Why was this area targeted . Were working to confirm that. What is the Shooters Relationship to the facility . As soon as we have more information on that, well let you know. We know this is going to have a Ripple Effect in the area. The Light Rail is shutting down at noon. We also know the courthouse nearby is being affected as well. So we are continuing to gather, chuck, as much as we can, as we update you on what we have learned and well continue to do so as we gather. All right, Lindsey Reiser. This are Fire Trucks that are the most visible right now from my vantage point, but theres also a tent behind me where theres a Command Post. We see a Command Post here, and you mentioned what the activity is like. It was very organized when those employees were walking across The Street and into this area. And you know, chuck, we want to give them space. We want to give them privacy, but we also want to ask how theyre doing. I did so. A couple told us they werent allowed to talk to the media, but chuck, i have to tell you, they were so distraught, so shaken. You know, sometimes people want to talk to the media about these things. And maybe in a few days they will, but for right now, i can tell you none of us can imagine and hopefully never will have to imagine what they went through today. Right. All right, lindsey. I want to bring in pete williams, our Chief Justice correspondent. I believe you have some reporting that indicates we know who the shooter is. Several Law Enforcement officials have told my colleagues andy and john that the person that they believe carried out the shooting is an employee of the company where the shooting happened names samuel cassidy. Apparently, a fairly longtime employee there. Its been reported that the shooting began at a Union Meeting this morning. But we dont know yet what weapon was used or whether the shooting began inside. If it did begin inside a room, that may explain why the number of people shot here is going to be fairly high in terms of people wounded or dead. But we dont have any confirmed numbers on that. And the second part of this is, i know you have been reporting about a fire nearby this morning. Santa Clara County sheriffs deputies are at the scene of that apparent house that may be Cassidys Residence or connected to him. And that house caught fire this morning. So theyre investigating whether the fire was set before the shooting. Im being careful here not to say who they believe set the fire, because i think we just dont know that yet. But theres some indication that the two things are somehow connected. How theyre connected is unclear at this point. The other point that i would make is that a couple of Law Enforcement officials have said that cassidy killed himself after the Shooting Spree this morning. Theres been the Santa Clara County sheriffs officials have declined to say at their News Conference whether he was shot by Law Enforcement or whether he shot himself. The best information we have is that he did shoot himself. But in terms of why this happened and why today and all of that, its just way too soon to tell. And pete, do we have any indication what kind of weapons he was carrying or using . No. Nobody has been able to give us that information, whether it was a handgun or a long Gun Or Something different, a rifle. We just dont know. Pete williams, you know, theres a lot more information to be gleaned. Ill let you go and try to do that. Let me bring in katherine schweit, the former fbi special agent in charge of the active Shooter Program. Tell me what your former colleagues on the ground now are doing in the aftermath of this. Well, certainly, the people in charge, the Sheriffs Office, you have to have one person in charge, but you have all the Law Enforcement agencies working tooth. Theres a mention about all of the potential fire or the cameras are kept far away. Thats because Law Enforcement really has one chance, so you want to have a very wide perimeter, and you dont know whether or not the shooter might have dOne Things like left his car, you know, with bombs in it, like we saw the Aurora Theater Shooting years ago in colorado. That shooter had in fact detonated he had dozens of bombs set up to blow up his own Apartment Building several blocks away. So we know that although those didnt go off, Law Enforcement was able to dismantle those bombs, but thats the kind of situation that right now Law Enforcement has to look for. There could be secondary devices specifically designed to hurt Law Enforcement. So theyre going to make sure theres a wide perimeter, and the idea that, you know, youre seeing the employees moving through. One thing that we do know is if this happened at a Union Meeting, there are a lot of witnesses and we want to gather all of the evidence before they start talking and mixing and matching information and forgetting what they saw versus what they heard on some news report. The briefing has begun and we want to go there live and take a listen. Lets do that. This morning, at 6 34 in the morning, Santa Clara County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls regarding a shots fired call located at the area of 101 West Younger Avenue in the city of San Jose. This building is a Valley Transportation Authority, vta, transit building. And houses a Vta Control Center at that building. The information that we have so far is we do have multiple victims, and we have multiple victims ranging from fatalities and multiple major injuries at this point. We do have a suspect that is pronounced deceased at this point. I wont go into information about identity information. That will be released by the Santa Clara County coroners office. This is an active and ongoing investigation. The Sheriffs Office activated our Santa Clara County active Shooter Protocol where we activated multiple Law Enforcement agencies and Fire Department agencies in the surrounding county to assist with this incident. This is still a fluid and ongoing incident. And were trying to figure out everything that transpired and what happened to this point. Again, this is still ongoing and were still trying to gather the information of what exactly happened at this point. Right now, with numbers, i can confirm with you at this point that there are eight victims that are pronounced deceased at this point. And there is one suspect that is pronounced deceased. This is still ongoing, like i said. The numbers can change. So this is still a fluid and active ongoing investigation. We have all the resources out here from city, county, and federal agencies out here, including the fbi and the Dea And Homeland security out here to assist with this investigation. We have a lot of resources out here. Were trying to figure out what exactly happened, what is going on. We received information there are explosive devices that are located inside the building. That being said, we activated our Bomb Squad which is currently out on scene and trying to determine, pretty much, were trying to clear out every Room And Crevice of that building to insure that public safety is rest assured if we open up the building in the near future. That being said, getting the information to all youf is fluid and dynamic. Its going to take time for us to go in there and render the area safe so we can have investigators go in on scene to collect evidence and gather all of the information we can at this point. We do have a Reunification Center located next to me. Its going to be at 70 West Heading in the city of San Jose. Its going to be over at the isaac newton auditorium. Eight victims, theres eight casualties from victims and one Suspect Casualty at this point as well. The building that theyre at is 101 West Younger Avenue. Its a control center, and thats where theyre at at this point. The fire. Theres a fire scene. Were still ongoing and trying to figure out exactly if theres a connection or any information on that point. Were still trying to gather that information. Information. This is an active investigation and there are many components were trying to discover. We mentioned the victim Reunification Center. Its in the building next door. Please, please have respect for the victims families right now. There is still a lot to be done. We appreciate San Jose pd was with us immediately going into the building, and our teams showed exemplary behavior as shots were still going off. There were attempted rescues, and were unsure of where that is right now. We dont have time to answer all the questions. Well give you information we can give you as it becomes known, but we really dont want to speculate right now. In addition to that, the district attorneys victim witness folks are helping support the families through this tragic time and the individuals who were part of the really, of the chaos and who witnessed this horrific crime.
