Thats coming up a little later in the program. We begin with the Republican Partys complete and total inversion of the Big Lie. This has become a crisis in realtime. The u. S. Senate could vote as soon as this week to investigate the January 6th insurrection. All evidence shows one Republican Party, that in time recently this year, wanted to find facts and even hold Donald Trump responsible, now theyre going on record opposing the truth, the party putting Donald Trump ahead of a basic national Security Probe into how and why their lives as well as others, as well as police were put in such danger on January 6th. I have actually opposed the idea of a commission immediately from the very first because i think well start waiting for a commission rather than moving forward with what we know we need to do now. This is driven solely by politics and nancy pelosi, but we should not be a part of that. If you didnt know the Tv Footage was a video from January 6th, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit. House democrats have handled this proposal in partisan bad faith, going right back to the beginning. Last statement from Senator Mcconnell is factchecked false. This has been in its organization, in its development, an attempt to have a literally bipartisan that would be the opposite of partisan whether one party was to stand in benefit a bipartisan effort to find the facts first and also seek congressional accountability and potentially change policy to make the congress as secure as possible, to make sure this never happens again and also reinforce protections, physical and otherwise, around Democracy And Counting of the ballots in the United States. Including that final, usually ceremonial certification, which was attacked so violently that day. Republican party is increasingly afraid of one blogger in florida. January 6th happened in part because of the Big Lie and now were learning just how far Donald Trumps Lawyer Rudy Giuliani went. The Arizona Republic obtained a voicemail that giuliani left for a key Election Official Maricopa County Supervisor Election eve. And he said, Bill E. Its rudy giuliani, president trumps lawyer. I have a few things i would like to talk over with you. Maybe we can get this thing fixed up. You know, i really think its a shame that republicans are sort 6 both in this kind of situation. I think there may be a nice way to resolve this for everybody. Gates did not even return that call. Meanwhile, Maricopa County officials are outright threatening to sue their own State Senate because it wont back down on false claims that basically defame what based on the evidence appear to be the honest administrators of that countys election. Instead they are being defamed, they say, by false information some sort of Election Evidence or materials are destroyed. In fulton county, florida, ballots from the 2020 election can be reviewed. Investigators did not find a valid Absentee Ballot of an audit of over 17,000 votes and signatures by individuals who chose to vote that way. Republicans in arizona and three other states who tried to overturn the 2020 Election Results are now running to become election officials in their home states. The american Democracy Crisis continues, even if the last election was not ultimately stolen. With that in mind we turn to our strategists tonight, a Staff Writer of the New York times, emily bazelon. Good to have you here. Thank you. I will start with you on the law because this could look like a story in decline. People who dont follow this daily could say a lot of noise but the guy does go back to florida to blog. The other guy became President And Vice president. When you look at where we end tonights report at the top of the program, the reason its the top story, the people who want to cheat and end Democracy In America are running to get more power are in positions where in a different election, they might have gotten away with it, emily. Yes. We are talking about an election which the system held because the folks who actually have to conduct and administer the elections made sure it did so. They resisted an enormous amount of political pressure. They did that whether they were republicans or democrats because they were dock their job. Doing their job. Theyre now in a position, particularly arizona, where theyre watching all of their work in effect made a mockery of. And they are trying to pick up The Machine as a democracy and not having it used towards a partys end. And to me, that is clear. I did a lot of reporting around the election about the work that was going under the have scrutiny, the dropboxes, how secure they were, counting. It was a remarkably well run, pret kwlien election. The story thats being told from trump and his supporters are completely at odds from that reality. And that was tough if you actually worked on it. Yeah. Waneta, i want to put on the screen a quote republicans who sought to undercut or overturn Bidens Election Win are Launching Campaigns to become the states top elected officials next year. We all know in the news perhaps a little unfortunately when planes last safely, its considered less of a big story than when they tragically crash. While politicos and people interested in this stuff may have followed this closely, i think the fact the plane did not ultimately crash in the largest sense of the Election Results were honored and inaugural election occurred may leave some people underestimating how different it could have been, juanita, in just a couple of these states, two, three states, you had people willing to take it to the max and try to overthrow everything. They want to win these Secretary Of State Offices now. Yeah, ari, the first thing that came to my mind seeing that political headline, what if one of these pm were in Raffenspergers Spot when you call and say, can you come up with 11,000, 12,000 votes . Absolutely, lets go. The fact you got this call into a Maricopa County elected official, trumps call to raffensperger and then the followup with the insurrection highlights the complete rejection in Trumps Mind to his ability to even take a l that has been over and over confirmed through the recounts and fulsome county, which we know is going through this fourth recount through this ridiculous I Cant even call it an Audit Display out of Maricopa County and how easy it would be if you didnt have a few people who would follow and uphold this institution and preserve our democracy from, essentially, lets be real, the person at the time who held the highest elected office in the land. Thats no that feat. What i see here is also a fissure in the Republican Party between these State Legislatures which are republican run, which are still telling the Big Lie, which are passing Voter Suppression bills in the name of that Big Lie and advocating for these recounts against these local officials. And as emily mentioned, theyre the ones who did the hard work of making sure the election came off okay, an election that took place during a pandemic no less. We know they put everything they had into making sure this was a safe and fair election, which it has been confirmed to be and now have their work undermined at what expense . To make trump feel better . We know biden is not going to leave the White House while hes legally certified to be in that role. Whats the goal here . Right. The goal here is undermine the institution, undermine the people and no voter in this country deserves to be undermined in this way. As you said, its not an audit down tlxt you can call it a confidence audit, which is what the mafia and cartels do, where they use the Word Audit to try to take something thats not theirs. But, no, its not a real audit. Its very seriously a problem. I want to play a little bit of george will, who has been a very strong conservative, very much right winger, he would say himself for a long time. Heres what he said about where this party is headed. We have something new in American History that was i political party by the terror it feels from its own voters. Every elected officials is frightand of their voters and doesnt respect or like their voters and afraid a vote for this will be seen as an insult to the 45th president. The very fast retreat by republicans from January 7th and 8th, obviously this is a bad thing or lets have fact finding, what were recovering tonight, the real in peril that would support their position e. What does that say to you . I think it emphasizes a couple of things. You have republicans in the party who load this Voting Base who hate being beholden to them. But you also have the Marjorie Taylor greens, who amplify their believes further. Is r so that fissure is only going to deepen. I think its appalling the very people whose lives were on stake January 6th need a second pause to think about the Validity Or Purpose of this commission, when absolutely we dont want nick like that to ever happen again. They have to pause and i think everybody in this country should be looking at them like, is being loyal to trump, being loyal to this Base Worth your life, worth this happening again . And raise that question to republicans because this is not a hard decision. This is not a hard choice. Honestly, if im leading the democratic caulk right right now, im like okay, choose to filibuster this and i will organize my caucus against eliminating the filibuster. Jennifer, i want to starts with you, what does Allen Weisselberg in your new know about the Trump Org thats critical to these investigators . I think hes the maestro. Hes the one that has orchestrated hes at the apex of it. I think that i dont fully believe donald knows the ins and outs not of whats going on, hes absolutely fine with whatever you saves him money on his taxes to benefit him, but allen is the one who orchestrated all things and put the Family And Everyone in a bad position. Why is it a bad position at this time from your Point Of View . I think there are serious allegations of Tax Fraud, Tax Evasion and, you know criminality. Did you ever see criminality. Did you ever see Allen Operate in a way that made you think or question a way he and the electoral org had crossed legal lines . Yes, allen himself admitted to me his taxes and pay stubs, he said, ill never show those. Oh, no, hes supposed to be the guarantor on my apartment, my lease after i was getting divorced while i was getting divorce, excuse me, he said oh, no, I Cant show my taxes. I cant show my pay stubs. I thought why not . Basically hes saying theyre illegal and im not releasing them. It was during the cohen fbi investigation. Pretty telling. He had access to money that if in your view legitimate would not be a big deal to circulate that financial material, and he made you aware it was a sense of guilt or could be looked at as criminal by other Potential Parties . The reason i believe those, yes, since his behavior in 2017 what i witnessed is that when he took over as trustee, he was not only nervous but he started immediately hiding money in escrow confidentially, for example, like in the lawyers various lawyers in Civil Case, hiding money in escrow and having them confidentially cut checks that would make him vulnerable to Tax Evasion, Tax Fraud conversations, taxes. Thats how hes hiding his culpability and already saving himself. And before i bring in our other guests here, jennifer, there were payments, as we read, for your childrens tuition, thats correct . Correct. Thats one of the them. I was going to ask, what was the purpose of that, and do you think thats an exposure for mr. Weisselberg for investigators . Oh, i think its not only an exposure for allen, i think its an exposure for donald. He was writing one of them too. Inside the Trump Payroll Corp. , which is the hub of the issue for state, federal, disability insurance, workers comp, saving on that, Report Rg Onefifth of your actual income, Donald Trump himself, writing lower compensation for taxes and allen. But as he said in his deposition, they were just compensation. Michael cohen is here with us. Michael, how does this all sound to you . Some of those details and accounts are things that might be consistent with what you experienced, but because the family nature, i dont know you knew all of them directly. Did that sound like how mr. Weisselberg operated and do you think he has legal exposure . I think if you Take A Look at the panel thats here in front of you, ari, you have what i would term to be the trifecta of trouble for trump. If you Take A Look. You have, of course, stephanie, who has the Melania And President ial inaugural committee. You have jennifer, who deals directly with the cfo, and myself that sort of encompasses Trump And Family as well as the organization. But allen is a very interesting guy because allen was the gatekeeper for every penny that came in and went out of the Trump Organization. But it wasnt just the Trump Organization. It was donalds personal accounts. It was the Kids Business accounts, president ial inaugural committee, campaign. Any penny that had anything to do with Donald Trump went through Allen Weisselbergs desk. Now that they have allen under sort of investigation, i remember once i bumped into allen and the family at a restaurant here in the city. When i went over to say hello, hes like you Cant Talk to me. You Cant Talk to me. Youre under investigation. I really do hope as soon as i get off of home confinement tonight, hopefully bump into him again, i can turn around and say to him the exact same thing. But i do believe that he has significant exposure, and i think his exposure is not one that you can just hide because the beautiful thing about numbers is numbers dont lie. People do. And as we know donald lies about everything. Donald lies and allen swears for it. So its a question of whether or not allen wants to now serve time in his golden years or he wants to provide the information to the multitude of different organizations, Law Enforcement organizations, that are currently investigating him. My suspicion is that hes going to provide the information they want. Lets take that point to jennifer, and its interesting hearing you say that, michael. S as i think viewers know, there was a point in time you were making arrangements for Donald Trumps benefit, mdas and other Business Arrangements and when it was all said and done, you did things that youre saying allen did, committed things to are him and everyone knows the story. Ari, im sorry, just one quick allen was involved in every aspect of that transaction as well, which, of course, is something that one would have to expect that he, too, would be a coconspirator to the Hush Money payments. Im sorry, go ahead, jennifer. Let me take you to jennifer. I think michael raises at least a fair question, which is whether this review will go through all of those things. Youve each attested to the fact that mr. Weisselberg is under significant heat here. There was a significant sum of are money he had his hands on. And we will get to that too. Jennifer, go ahead. Ari, im sorry, what was the question exactly . More than one question. When we have this much going on, but one Question Michael raised is he didnt think mr. Weisselberg ultimately would go to Risk Jail or take personal risks to save Donald Trump In The End. Oh, no. What is your view of that . Oh, no, hes going to flip, absolutely. He will save himself. Him and donald are just the same. Theres no difference. They will save themselves at any cost, no. Thats what im saying. Hes already for example, you know, All Of A Sudden he was getting an apartment at Trump Place and then a Lease Showing hes paying rent for an apartment because it wasnt appearing on his taxes at all. They were missing. Thats what my voice brought, what was missing . What the numbers are supposed to be because i lived it 28 years. Its all been deemed true. I could tell them what number is wrong and how i know its wrong. But there are a lot of differences when donald says numbers and certain things and allen says number and certain things, theyre not adding up. Do you think, jennifer, it crossed Allens Mind that he can be in the situation mr. Cohen was in. That In The End Donald Trump was not only disloyal or unappreciative of whatever may have been done, but actually tries to pin the blame on everybody else. Has that crossed Allens Mind do you think . I dont know if it crossed his mind, but it should be. What hes done to michael and his family, stephanie and her family and my family I Cant say anything now, put a Gag Order on me, talk about Hush Money, put a Gag Order on me in my Civil Case. I can only say so much right now. And this is his own blood, own family. If nothing else to depict who this man is, and donald does not know that. They dont realize who he is at home. Hes not the same person at the organization. Hes abusive. He shut me down. Let me bring in stephanie, who also has a lot of experience and been patient with us. Thank you, stephanie. I guess my first question to you, given your work with the first Lady And Mr. Weisselbergs interaction and other projects you were involved in, what do you think about all of the above . I think all Roads Lead to Allen Weisselberg. I was shocked find out a year after the president ial Inauguration Committee was supposed to file their form 990 to the Elections Committee theyre claiming 170 Million has been accounted for. Doesnt sound like it to me. Doesnt look like it to me. And you know what, there are a lot of inconsistencies and half truths and flatout lies in the deposition. And people need to be held accountable. Lies dont work. The truth eventually comes out. I think its a lot easier to tell the truth because you cant keep up on all of the lies and theyre now tripping all over one another, all of them. Stephanie, when Donald Trump was ostensibly busy being president , who was running the Trump Organization based on your knowledge . Based on my knowledge, it was i think they were all still involved. I dont really have the authoritiy to say who was. Supposedly don jr. And eric but allen, as always, again knowing that he had his fingers all over the pits finances was so i i was so enraged because that was something thrown on me and my family, that i was accused of stealing millions of dollars after giving, you know, something that was supposed to be more patriotic. Look, weve all made mistakes in the sense i have given to a family i should have never assumed they deserved it. And thats my mistake. I learned a Lot And Cant separate ethics from politics and i say that often. But the reality of all of this is allen was also involved with what happened to me so intrinsically and i wasnt really aware until after it was brought to my attention and after i read the 900page deposition. Ari, i if i could just michael, Hang On for one sec. Hang with me. Im going to moderate. Kind of part of what i do on the program but i will get back to you. I want to play something in the spirit of we heard a lot of Criticism And Evidence against the Trump Organization. We got a montage here. This is more than one person speaking. It is how they boast. But because were doing this with evidence, i want to put up their claims are, a, the organization makes a lot of legitimate money doing a lot of legitimate branding and Real Estate. And b, as you know and i will give you a chance to respond, so viewers understand, each of you has your own agreements or disagreements with multiple people at the Trump Organization. With that in mind, i did want to play a little bit of what they say they do. Take a look at the montage. I really love shaping land, fixing land. Having fantastic locations, and doing the best golf courses. Normally when you announce a hotel, who people show up and here we have lots of people. The finest hotel in this country, if not the world. Its doing great. Everybodys talking about the building. They love it. Its become the favorite place in hawaii. Every year were incredibly pressed to have a lot of celebrities. That is the organization thats under Criminal Investigation in New York, two different Prosecutorial Offices looking at it. I will go to you, michael, as promised. You worked there with them, as well as anything else you wanted to add, sir. What i wanted say to you was give you the answer to the question which stephanie didnt want to give you the direct or wasnt knowledgeable on it. Allen managed the trust and the two boys, don and eric, managed the Company But Allen was the gatekeeper. Mind you, each and every day they sent information back to donald in the White House, who was, of course, signing checks on behalf of the Trump Organization, Donald Trump trust. For example, when he signed the 35,000 check, the first installment of my money back on the Hush Money payment. That was to answer that question. As far as the nonsense they put out about how fortunate that they are to have so many people coming to the various different, you know, openings and so on, most of them are employees that were there or people that are related to the project in and of themselves. The you can rest assured nobody from The Street decided to come in to just sit and to listen to donald or Ee Vank Ka talk about how beautiful the marble is because its the same marble they used before or the same carpeting and wallpaper. Theres not a lot of thought that goes into the trump brand. But thats neither here nor there. Donald is great at puffing. The kids are great at puffing. And thats how they ended up with the original case against them with Cyrus Vance years ago with the Trump Soho project. Famously not in soho, imagine that. Its also not trump anymore, by the way. Fair. Jennifer, your response to the view that they say, well, you have grievances . I dont have grievances. Its not easiest to do this with my own family. Allen and i were close actually. I was a math major. So i know the numbers. We often talked numbers. I talked to donald and he told me they like the gift of gab and so often about business things. This is heartbreaking. I mean, i never thought i dont like to hurt anyone. But when the government called me, you know, and im doing my best, this has also destroyed me. Im being shut down like if you sue anybody, basically they cover up their haunts, you wont be able to feed your kids, pay your mortgage or sustain a business, and thats what theyve done. Allen has done this to his own daughter that he never had, over three decades. But him longer, im closer to him than my own family. So its tough, really tough. The Civil Case, ag turned criminal, theres nothing civil going on in my Civil Case, its very criminal. And Michael And Stephanie know that. What im going to do is fit in our shortest break. And as a cooperating Witness And Someone who has documentation and facts as i wrote in melania and me, i have facts no regrets. Did everything i could. What i do regret is i thought i could make a difference standing with them and next to them. And i just think theres so much evidence that points to all of them, and that their words and their, you know, photogenic, Artificial Acting is now going to catch up to them because theyve all tripped over themselves in this deposition. And this Civil Case in d. C. , not knowing allen was so intrinsically involved, is going to change things, in my opinion. Appreciate that response. Were in our kind of final moments here. I like to do a quick lightning round, since i have each of you live. In a Word Or Sentence if possible, starting with stephanie. What is the Word Or Subject that investigators asked most about . Follow the money. If you follow the money, you will get your answers. People need to start following the money. Jennifer . Jennifer . Taxes. Tax fraud. Tax evasion. What was compensated, what was gifted . What are their actual Real Estate . Taxes. Over the park, taxes. Allen weisselberg. Which is an interesting answer, not a complete surprise, but each of you identifying different areas of intrigue. The second question is related, do you have a sense in your own view of who may have the most criminal exposure here . Would it be the people involved in signing checks like staff . Would it be potentially former president trump himself . Who has the most exposure in a Word Or Sentence, stephanie . Word or sentence, this is a very insular group. I think if one goes, they all go. Jennifer . So the trifecta for me that i know is allen, Donald And Barry weitzeil. Michael . All of them. Each and every one of them have culpability and will not be able to escape it, not with somebody like Mark Pomeranz as well as Now Tisch James coming in. And the last question i think is one of the largest ones on everybodys minds. You all lived through this. I appreciate you sharing your own personal experiences. Everyone here is a Human Being and this is obviously quite difficult for you and your families, including people on the other end, Trump Family members. I say this whenever i cover this stuff. But its extraordinary when we talk about a criminal probe months after a president leaves office, Serious Criminal Probe with sear ours evidence that was really scrutinizing not only what he did, what his company did, but whether his company has been in some sense criminal for years running back. Its actually pretty extraordinary, even if people are desense tiesed. That last question in that spirit is there are, as you all know, agreements that can be made, cooperation agreements, for example, where people admit some kind of wrongdoing but they completely evade prisons. Sometimes those kind of provisions are controversial because theyre considered so lenient. Im curious because of how close you all are, do you ever think a world where mr. Trump is facing allegations or any kind of charges for the Trump Orgs activities we discussed, he would cooperate under some terms, he would strike a deal in some way, stephanie . I think over the weekend i shared a few tweets that were about allen, letting him know i think its time for him to wake up and realize this family is going to pretend that it all had to do with allen, and allen was in charge of everything, allen was responsible. And theyre all going to flip against allen. Everyone needs to realize eventually they all Do Flip against you, regardless of who you are or what you mean to them. Because you mean nothing to them. People, i hope, realize that. That Donald Trump in a certain situation, might quote unquote cooperate but only blame him . Jennifer . Im so scared thinking about it, if he gets elected again. This Power And Control they have, theyre hiding their crimes. Because i know about the crimes, i will never be free as long as theyre free because i know too much. I know way too much.
