The government responded fairly quickly to this attack in loosening restrictions, for example, on Truck Deliveries to try and reduce the impact of the Colonial Pipeline shutdown. Thats the kind of collaboration between the private sector and the government we need to see. I think this in many ways as an unwelcomed illustration of how vulnerable key Supply Lines can be, you have a Cyber Attack on the biggest Fuel System stretching from atlanta to new york and what is the administration doing to be more proactive instead of reactive . But beyond that, the administration is confronting a set of questions that previous administrations have to a degree pushed to the side which is, you know, we are only as safe as the weakest link in a partnership between the government, State Government and private industry that runs much of the Energy Infrastructure in this country, and as you pointed out, a private company may not want the government in their and learning what they regard as trade secrets, and thats why the pipeline has not proactively shared information that the public will want to know, and thats one question. And then beyond that, did this company pay ransom and what does the national security have and weigh in on that. Drivers across the East Coast are piling into Gas Stations resulting in long lines of what could be the shutdown of a Pipeline Due to a Cyber Attack. Gasoline is up 40 in just a week across many states, and 200 Gas Stations across georgia had run out of fuel by tuesday morning. So the impact here is huge. Its squeezing Gasoline Supplies and threatening a spike in gas prices. Give us a sense, though, of the other consequences of the Cyber Attack, perhaps the Unintended Consequences of it. Well, it will have a Ripple Affect, of course. This is not just potentially impacting Fuel Supplies at Gas Stations, and that impact is being driven, it appears from panic buying, because there really was plenty of petroleum in storage because of the low demand during the year of covid, and so there did not have to be this level of impact on supply, except for this panic buying. But this pipeline carries fuel not just for Gas Stations but also for airports, particularly baltimore and atlanta, and so you know, the pipeline the Colonial Pipeline say they expect to be back up by The End of the week and that should reduce the impact and the fact that they are not sharing information with Dhs On what happened and how this happened and what they are doing to get back up and running is troubling since dhs has authority to protect that information so it cant be used against them in a regulatory context or civil lawsuit, for example, to encourage just this kind of information sharing. This is in Tel Aviv tonight when hamas fired rockets at Tel Aviv, and this was an unusual thing when it comes to rounds of violence or escalations in gaza, and just imagine in southern israel, this thing has been going on for the last ten years. Yeah, and to your point we have not seen an escalation like this since The End of the 2014 war. You are reporting on this and living it, and give us a sense of what this escalation has been like for you and your family . Its substantially more than what they have seen Up To this point but its still redacted to protect the identities of the deputies involved. Thats what the police say. The 42yearold Father of seven was outside his home and behind the wheel of his car when he was shot five times by Sheriff Deputies last month. The police were serving drugrelated Search And Arrest warrants at the time according to their account. That raid can be seen in part from a nearby surveillance camera. The only video of the incident to be made public. It shows deputies arriving at browns home. Joining me now is Nbc News correspondent, katie beck, and also the reverend al sharpton. Katie, we will start with you. What are we expecting today . Reporter we are expecting to seat brown family and representatives arrive momentarily and go through the footage, and the judge in this case determined that the parts that did not show brown in them were not relevant for the family to see, so moments before the shooting occurred and after, and there are several parts they will not be able to view today. They will go inside and watch this video with their lawyer, presumably several times and we expect them to come out and tell us what they saw. The trick is the public wont see anything they have seen, and the judge ruled he will not even consider the public review of the video. Today is a discloser, not a release, so the video is not leaving the building, the family getting the chance to view more of it than they were given before. They have only seen 20 seconds of the video before, so seeing 18 minutes will give them a better context of what happened. The brown family has been clear that they feel like it was an execution, a bad police shooting, that civil rights were violated. The District Attorney in this case made clear in court that he says Andrew Brown actually moved his car forward and backward making contact with deputies twice before any shooting began. Those details are yet to be deciphered and today we will not get a chance to look at that video, as i said, but we will hear more from the family as to what they have seen when they come out. Jeff . Reverend brown, i know you have grown close to the family the last two weeks, and they are fighting for transparency and one for accountability, and these are two battles intertwines, are they not . Absolutely intertwined. The purpose of having Body Cameras is for transparency and to having delays in the drip, Drip Kind of scenario, 20 seconds, and then a week or ten days later we will let you see 18 minutes but dont want you to see everything. This is not transparency and certainly not accountability. If the police had nothing to hide then why are they hiding the footage from not only the family but the community. The idea of having Body Cameras is so everybody can see what exactly happened and what didnt happen. If its their contention that Andrew Brown jr. Had backed into police or did something to police twice, that would be seen on the footage. Why wouldnt you put that footage out immediately when you have the whole city, the whole state of North Carolina focused on this and you refuse to be transparent and therefore hold accountable what the police did on this occasion . The private autopsy that the family had done came back saying that Andrew Brown was shot in the back of his head, in the back of his shoulders. Thats certainly not a seemingly Somebody Pb was a danger to you or moving forward towards you. After the family sees this video today, this 18minute snippet, really, what comes next for them . Is there anything that facebook could do to convince you and other ags that instagram for kids would be safe . Well, the product doesnt exist yet in the wild. So its a little bit difficult to be able to say what that might look like. All we have right nowing to by is the common experience that anybody that gets onto facebook can see, which is that they dont even enforce their own rules all that well. The experience on facebook is very uneven. And we see Cyber Bullying happening there even though that is ostensibly against the rules. Attorney general herring, Space Book rather, a Facebook Spokesman told the Washington Post that kids are already online so this is just a way to improve parental controls. Is there something to that argument . There is a youtube and also a youtube for kids. Childspecific social Media Platform really opens them Up To exploitation by both predators as well as Cyber Bullying. Let me take up the predatory aspect first. In 2020, Facebook And Instagram reported 20 Million child sexual abuse images. And as attorneys general, one of the most important and difficult roles that weve is to protect vulnerable people, especially our children. And it also opens them Up To Cyber Bullying. A 2017 survey reported that 42 of young instagram users had experienced Cyber Bullying. These social Media Platforms for kids, 6 to 12 years old, really carries some distinct harms to young children. It was very concerning in congressional testimony that mr. Zuckerberg really dismissed the connection between Social Media and those distinct harms to children. Ag yost, what do you say to republicans who point out that, you know, the gop is usually for less regulation and a Free Market and this is the government essentially doing the opposite here . Well, look, were against, as a party, the idea that government has to give you permission to do things that are not harmful. But we all support rules that keep consumers safe. We all want people to drive on the right side of the road and not crash into each other. These are just things that we have as a duty, republicans or democrats, to keep Control Over look, you have a situation where youre creating an electronic playground. I would hope that, first, that facebook would really rethink this idea, because as Attorney General Yost said, if there is a specific social Media Platform specifically for kids aged 6 to 12, youre going to have a specific group of accounts who are all children that will make it even easier for predators. And we know that dangerous individuals can hide behind the internet and its anonymity in order to prey on kids. And this is some of the, again, most important and difficult work that we as Attorney Generals are engaged in, which is to protect children from exploitation online.
