Right now we are obviously very focused on working with congress to get the president s jobs package passed. And his familys package. The reality is, we have fallen behind, with our investments in the economy and people are still struggling. The gop is blaming the april jobs report on the jobless benefits that were put in place to combat the pandemic recession. Some republican governors have started cutting federal aid hoping to force people back to work. President biden says he still has hope for bipartisan support, of his multi trillion Dollar Infrastructure and jobs plan. This week he plans to meet with each partys house and senate leaders, and with a group of republican senators. But the gop has more on its minds than even this huge Infrastructure Plan. House republicans could Vote Congress woman liz cheney out of her Leadership Position as early as wednesday. Opinions on the state of the party, are very mixed. In 2022 and 2024, we need everybody. We need those who feel as liz, we need those who feel as lindsay. Ultimately its about the policies. You see that cheney, cassidy support those policies. Those policies are tickets a victory. This idea of lets just put our differences aside and be unified, you cannot unify truth with lies. Any member can take whatever position they believe in. Thats what the voters vote on the individuals, and they make that decision. As conference chair, you have one of the most critical jobs as the messenger of Going Forward. It bothers me that you have to swear fealty to the dear leader, or you get kicked out of the party. Its sort of a circular firing squad, where were just attacking members of our own party, instead of focusing on solving problems. I think its true that and liz cheney are going to have to free elections. Whats senator cassidy said at the top of the show is right, republicans need both people who dont like trump, and identify as republicans and like the policies and people who do like trump. To vote next year to retake the house in the very close to that. The problem they have is that they have members like kissinger and liz cheney who have so boxes right now and youre going to see that all this week who are not willing to be quiet and willing to compartmentalize this issue of who won the election, whether trump was responsible for the January 26th Riots and thats a real problem for liu mccarthy. Well with stefanik her transition into politics has been someone rapid since trump took office. When she first won in 2014, she was known as a moderate independent anchor in the gop caucus so often crossed the aisle and often going with democrats. Since trump took office, however, she has made her pitch much more loyalty to trump and we saw that climax during the impeachment especially the second one where she has trump have the same falsehoods that the election was stolen, that the election needed to be overturned because biden was an illegitimate president but the same time if youre looking at the Voting Record it has so consistent since our election. She is among the most willing members of the gop across the aisle and she is a far more moderate owning records and liz cheney. Michael, youve been reporting about how the former president s Favourability Rating may have affected key districts in whether or not that has been kept by republicans. There are polls that show the Favourability Rating was really upside down in some key districts. Clearly the gop is betting on donald trump having further viability in the future to buoyed forward in elections. What is your sense of how shrewd about that is . Well so that reporting was the National Republican Congressional Committee had pulled in earlier this year. The districts will be the ones that are hoping to flip and save. And they found that trump was underwater by about 15 points in those districts. Now, thats an Interesting Data point and it doesnt predict anything but liz cheney was the not sharing the information with members at one point in april. There is even a question asked a briefing about the polling, and the brief or didnt give them a numbers about trumps favourability. The speed to whether or not the leadership of the party is willing to go with the effects here. I think the bet of people like Leader Mccarthy is that trump is a drag in some ways in some of these districts but if you illuminate his space its a greater drag, so highlighting those numbers and creating this debate can really hurt the party more Going Forward and their hope is by next year when people are sitting down to figure out how to vote they are going to be united on the republican side by come info which is wanting council biloxi, wanting a check on democratic power, being unhappy with president biden. What is your sense of a least of onyx and game . There is that its suggests just wants to serve one term and then move on. Its a good question. If you look throughout her career, she has a willingness to ascend the party. She is obviously by all indications about to claim number three in the house beyond that she might be looking at becoming Speaker Of The House are joining a future Republican Administration rule than anything she is currently in. I think she sees trump as if you get to that kind of rise in the party. And michael, very briefly weve had some comments on our air. We wont play them i, dont think we have quite enough time but some comments from including from former chair Michael Field suggest that there might because some kind of Effort Coalescing very very soon, possibly in the next week or so to create a formal potentially formidable challenge the gop as it is evolving. What is your sense of whether there is actually going to be something that would give homeless republicans or republicans who are feeling conflicted, a choice in terms of when they put their allegiances before we go. I would not be surprised if its never and i think its very hard hill to climb and i think people like cheney and kinzinger are more likely at least in the short run to fight within the party and to fight within the Party Primary system. If there is a third party breakout, former President Trump was ending that earlier and you can really spell doom for that side of the aisle. Russia. The Biden Administration has been racing to get the bottom of this attack. It targeted the Colonial Pipeline. That runs from the Texas Gulf Coast through the southeast up to the northeast, 5500 miles. The Colonial Pipeline, transports up to 2. 5 Million Barrels of gasoline, diesel jet fuel and other Refined Oil Products every day. Its critical to americas infrastructure. Commerce secretary, says the attack is a priority for the administration. The president was briefed yesterday, its an all Hands On Deck Effort right now. And we are lurking closely with the Company State and local officials to make sure they get that back to normal operations as quickly as possible in there arent disruptions in supply. Few officials familiar with the matter tell nbc news its russian Criminal Group called dark side, which popped up almost out of nowhere last year, and set up an elaborate extortion ring, in apparently has a website on the dark web, has a whole system, is even offering discounts to Extortion Victims that pay early. Its really symptomatic joshua, of how ransomware have become an epidemic. As well as paying Epic Attention to this Pipeline Attack which affects 50 Million People across the country. Theres a Hospital System in san diego, that is also their system is shut down it is under a ransomware tack. The washington d. C. Police were attacked a few days ago. A lot of these groups, come from russia in eastern europe. One of my sources said to me is that even though this is not the russian state or the Chinese State attacking the united states, russia grants essentially impunity to these Criminal Groups that are attacking private companies, that really affects all of, us every day. And the u. S. Needs to raise the cost of that. Because its just an unattainable situation. Can this groupie independent. A nonstate actor but its hard to ignore the fact that this dark side appears to have connections to a powerful empire. What is our sense of how this attack played out, and how it could have some direct connections to vladimir putin. So right now, joshua, our sources are saying theres every indication this is a criminal attack, not a nationstate attack. But youre absolutely right, in russia Criminal Hackers also freelance for the state. Theres a symbiotic relationship. And even if they dont the state allows them to exist and to thrive, as long as theyre not attacking russian targets but attacking western targets. Thats a problem. Russia is acting as a Robe International actor here. There is no extradition, theres no Law Enforcement occasionally the Justice Department will indict russian hackers. That goes nowhere. Because they have impunity, theyre sitting in russia. Until that situation gets rectified, this is going to persist, as were learning its really difficult, for even the largest of companies to protect themselves from these ransomware attacks. In many cases it just takes one employee to click on the wrong link, and the bad guys are in, and in this case joshua, the reporting is that they stole some data, then they also locked up some systems. And that led colonial to shut down its operational systems, in order to make sure the ransomware did not spread. Do your boss is a favorite work, dont crick links that are suspicious. Just to open them. Ransomware can very easily shut down an entire system. Before i let you go Colonial Pipeline released a statement saying its in the process of restoring service to other lateral,s smaller lines that run off the larger mainline. And will bring our full system back online, only when we believe it is safe to do so, and in full compliance with the approval of all federal regulations. Can before i let you go, what is the timeline for getting this pipeline fully back up and running . I presume, i hope that this is not going to be a huge bite on the economy in terms of fuel supplies, along the east coast. Joshua, no one we are talking too seems to know. I think thats a very real risk, the Commerce Secretary said today that the entire way of the Biden Administration is working with colonial to try to get them back online. But they have to be very careful to make sure this ransomware does not spread to their operational system, so the hackers know kick a control of the physical pipeline itself. What do you make of the jobs report and how that factors into the negotiations over the president s jobs plan . We did gain jobs in april, we just didnt gain as many as we wouldve liked. Ive been home [inaudible] first of all, childcare is very real. I met with a group of women last week, one of them is working two jobs, and the combined two jobs, is not enough to be able to afford childcare. In her mother has gotten sick and cant help to do, it childcare is a real problem. In a state like michigan, where covid has been surging, and hospitals are still full, thankfully the numbers are starting to go in the right direction. But people are afraid to go to back to work. As well as anything else. There is not one problem, there are a multitude of problems. And ill tell you something else, the same people who say we have to stop helping people, saying the Service Industry that no one can find jobs. The Service Industrys job numbers have increased over this past year, there are many reasons that people are not in the workforce. And we all have to Work Together to help people get back there. Which means addressing a multitude of issues. What do you make of some of the governors including South Carolina and montana who have announced that they are going to opt out of the expanded unemployment at the end of june. Again as a way to try to, as they see, it goes people back into the workforce. What do you make of that . I say to them what are you going to do about childcare. What are you going to do about longterm care. Im once somebody that thinks not only does Childcare Matter to me, but the number of women, but men. That have also have to take care of their older parents. We are one of the only industrialized nations in the world, that does not have some kind of Long Term Care program either. These are issues that we have really got to deal with. And the fact of the matter is that we see almost 3 million women have to leave the workforce because of a variety of issues like caregiving. It would be nice to take a paint brush and painted on say these are just people that dont want to work, i know a lot of people who are desperate to get back to. Work who want to see schools open. They want the economic income back in to their living Family Situation again. But they dont have what they need to support going back to work. I love to get your response to something a viewer sent. And i think it speaks to the difference in how even in parts of michigans industrial economy, which is different from macomb county, you find all kinds of people with many perceptions of the same move. The governor has called for a crude oil pipeline, to shut down, and the deadline is this wednesday, its kind of a bit of a standoff between the state of michigan and the canadian government, from which this pipeline flows. We heard from a viewer in michigan, named philip, he works for a small Propane Company in michigan for decades, and in his view, this is an example of democrats carrying more about the optics of a decision, than how it might affect people. Because his concern is, if you shut down the pipeline, energy cost more, including the transporting it differently. Philip rates this. I personally have seen nothing from democrats to prove they care about the working people in this country. They cater to the rich, and they give to those on the bottom, but just enough to convince them they are helping. If you really want to help the american people, put them to work and stop taxing the working class. Congresswoman dingell, how would you respond to. Philip would you say to him . I would say to him first of all i understand what youre saying, as ive told you josh when i told many others, four years ago i predicted that donald trump could become president because a lot of Working Men And Women, didnt think we cared about them. I think joe biden, president biden, understands what its like to be a Working Person in this country. And i would disagree with you, that he is trying to create the Infrastructure Plan is actually called the jobs plan. He wants to create good strong middle class jobs, that are going to pay people. And then they will be paying taxes into our income. Its a very complicated issue. But the last thing any of us wants to see, is an oil spill in our great lakes. I would like to believe at this point in our fight against covid that there are some part of you that is thinking we got this. Weve got a lot of ups and downs but were on the right track. As the pace were on, we got this. Is that how you feel or are you still a little pessimistic . No, i do feel that way, joshua for the most part. I still want to make sure that we dont declare victory prematurely because as you said, we need to get more people vaccinated. We want to hit that 70 of adults getting a single dose by july 4th and even go beyond that. So were on the right track to where we want to be. In that regard, i do have that feeling that we got it but we want to make sure that we dont look the other way and let it get bias. We have to stick with it but the Public Health measures and we have to get as many people vaccinated as we possibly can. This morning on another network, you said its probably time to begin relaxing some of the indoor mask mandates. What is going to be the data point for you the list is no its going to be the right time . The cdc is going to be coming out in a rolling fashion, with recommendations as we get more people vaccinated and as we do that, without a doubt youre going to start saying the case is coming down even more so. And just a couple of weeks ago we were averaging 60,000 cases a day. Were now down about 40 to 1 42,000 cases a day. Its still too high to feel great about it but its going in the right direction and that as continues to go down, the cdc is going to be relaxing the guidelines both an indoor, but workplace, things like that. So we have that to look forward to. If we want to get back to normal, will we need to do is a community is to get vaccinated. We have a number of questions from our audience which will go through in the next few minutes including several questions i have to do with children, particularly siblings. One of our viewers, kendra, asks if an older sibling is fully vaccinated, is it okay to sign him up for an indoor sport like basketball or ice hockey before his younger siblings are eligible for a vaccine or should we hold off until everyone in the household is fully vaccinated . Doctor fauci, this gets to some of the science because dont you think its still kind of emerging about how the vaccines affect children rather than adults . Well, you shouldnt refrain from having one member of a family because another member is not vaccinated. The fully vaccinated person can do things according to the cdc guidelines which means they can do almost anything outdoors except to go to a very highly concentrated number of people like enlarged stadium, for now. Everything else, from an outdoor standpoint is fine. Indoors, it really depends on the level of infection in the community. As the level of infection in the Community Gets lower and lower, the risk to a person gets extremely low. Being vaccinated itself is going to markedly diminished any risk whether that risk is outdoor or indoor. And again, thats the thing we want people to understand. The risk becomes dramatically diminished. As far as the unvaccinated child goes, again, follow the cdc guidelines. One mom asked on twitter, i got the j. J. Vaccine four weeks ago. My tenyearold is high risk. We havent left the house and must months. Now if im vaccinated negotiating and we travel, how likely is it that i could somehow infect my son . Also how soon can he be vaccinated . Doctor fauci. Well, the risk is not zero, joshua, but is it extremely low. So the fact of the mom is vaccinated diminishes dramatically any risk to the child. I would want to know how old the child is because, you know, we are getting to the point where we will very soon be vaccinating kids who are adolescents hold that thought, she is ten years old. Ten years old. Ten years old, youll probably have to wait as we get into the fall if you get the child. If the mother says the child is at a high risk, but even more reason to get that child vaccinated to prevent the kid from getting to the point where theyre at a high risk of getting a severe outcome. These are great answers to some of the viewers questions. Make has a question that of think a lot of people are asking as it relates to getting the whole country are getting as much of it is possible vaccinated. Mick wants to know if not enough americans get vaccinated, can newer unknown variants not covered by current vaccines put fully vaccinated people at risk of getting covid . I think what hes asking is we kind of push toward Herd Immunity which we may or may not hit. This gap of the people who dont become part of the herd, for lack of a better term, might become a weak spot that allows variants we havent developed medicines for yet to sneak in and basically kind of ruin all her hard work was getting people vaccinated. Doctor, what would you say to that . Yet, thats a great question joshua. Absolutely. Thats the reason why we want to get as many people vaccinated as we possibly can. If you have a vaccinated person and a variant comes in, fortunately for us the variants that have become dominant in the country happened to be quite susceptible to the vaccines that were using. But that doesnt mean that at sometime in the future, we will get a variant come in from another country or some other place and wind up putting people at risk even though they are vaccinated. Another really good reason to get as many people vaccinated as you possibly can. So, so far all the questions you asked are pointing towards what were trying to do. Getting as many people vaccinated as possible as quickly as possible. Can you just clarify something for me . I think i understand this, but i want to make sure that i have this right. In terms of some folks hesitancy about getting the vaccine, i feel like part of it had to do with the speed with which the vaccine emerged.
