M. , the Cofounder And Ceo of axios, jim vandehei. Jim, got to say, i love your one big thing today, look at Liz Cheneys long game. Its a hell of a bet on her part. Shes about to get tossed from leadership, and yet she thinks she might be a viable president ial candidate, maybe in 2028. She thinks the Republican Party at some point will repudiate Donald Trump and return more to its roots. You and i have talked a lot about this on the show. Were looking for indications of what does the Republican Party stand for. Is there a Policy Anchor to it, or is it the cult of personality around trump . Thats why this vote which probably will take place next week to remove her from leadership matters. It just shows how much republicans are moving even closer to trump. Theyre not moving further away. Theyre moving closer to trump. She was able to defeat, you know, this effort to try to kick her out of leadership earlier, and now it doesnt look like shell be able to. And even some of the republicans who voted for impeachment have gone really silent. Theyre not defending Liz Cheney, shes almost alone in the Republican Party. And i think it just shows the Staying Power of Donald Trump, which people hate to hear. But theres a direct correlation, if you look at how people are running in these primaries, how are they responding in the Liz Cheney situation, who are making trips to maralago, its all still the party of Donald Trump, which has him telling people privately that hes more and more likely to run again, which i always assumed he would, but now youre hearing more and more of it from his people. Its definitely the chatter increasing. And youre very right that this game is much longer than just 2024 or 2028. Weve been waiting for the last four years to see, okay, would republicans do this or not and they havent. Lets talk for a second about this facebook decision, because this is very relevant to that question about Donald Trump running again. Its kicked the can down the road for six months. It puts a lot of pressure on facebook to do something about it. What does the former President Need from facebook, if this is what he wants to do . To be honest, he needs to get back on facebook. If he really wants to be a viable president ial candidate, you need twitter, you need facebook, you need these platforms. Its how you connect with people and its how you raise money. Just to see how sort of far the mighty have fallen in terms of his communications ability, he started a blog this week. Its call from the desk of donald j. Trump, but it is like a 1995 blog. And he needs some way to communicate. And obviously has a very clear line to communicate in these primaries and with members of congress, because they really fear his wrath. They say that Hell Use this new blog to attack Liz Cheney or attack Mitch Mcconnell. But in term of how, how do you raise money or organize . If you talk to anybody who studied The Machinery of Donald Trump, facebook was the engine. Was the main engine. Its where he had that connectivity and where he got his money. That decision is huge. And its why youre going to see, i think, increasing calls from republicans to break up facebook, to punish twitter, to throw Google And Amazon in there, because in some ways, theyre rightly going to say, the biggest platforms and the most powerful companies in the world are keeping the leading contender from 2024 for one of the two major parties from communicating with his people. And obviously, the companies will say, its because of terrible behavior and the spread of misinformation and lies. But that is going to be the fight and youre seeing a lot of that in the last 24 hours. So, jim, if youre You And Me at this stage in a president ial cycle, its very early. We would still normally be covering early steps from other candidates, a big field if there was an open seat like this. Whats the deal for those other candidates, as they watch whats happening . I think there was a sigh of relief among some members of the house that trump was not put back on facebook this time. How does that affect how other people are thinking about their political futures and whether theyre going to run against him in a primary. I dont think they have a political future in 2024, unless he doesnt run. Everybody is trying to figure out what hes going to do. If he runs, hes the most powerful person. And i dont know, if you talked to any of those people who are thinking of running in 2024, theyre waiting to see what he does. And by the way, they dont think theyll know until the end.
