But shes making the right decision in the minds of a lot of people in this moment, i think the question is what comes next for like Liz Cheney. She will remain a republican but she will be on that lonely side of the aisle within the republican party. I have been there, i know it. I think the broader question is where does she go from here . Do you think calling anybody in the republican party works right now . Well you dont know until youre trying. And i do think, look, the voters are where they are and theyre much more approachable than i like. If we once succumbing by Donald Trump, we would be astonished by Mitch Mcconnell. Its something to say that you want to stop the biden administration, what does that mean . Weve been in a pandemic, there is a recession, theres a new administration, their Foreign Policy challenges, a normal Minority Leader would say that i would want to help you, correct their ways, work with the democrats and help them change legislation and oppose stuff that we think that is the right thing to do. That is a normal opposition party. Mcconnell has always been very partisan, hes got more partisan over the year and what used to be a loose rhetoric over im going to obstruct, has become a sense of the right thing to do if youre the opposition party. It is dissimilar opposed to, stop the new administration. I think the democrats are being too passive and letting those kinds of statements pass. I think they should be harrowing mcconnell. If i was Chuck Schumer i would bring them out of the big bills, and dare the republicans to vote and let them try to stop things that are popular and really put them on the spot, time after time. The democrats have been very busy, theyve taken over the senate, the presidency, they have a lot of things to do but they need to make the republicans pay a little bit more of a price for their attitudes. Jeanne, i want to leave you with some thoughts about facebook. You wrote about that today. What do you make of the situation . Well, i think the Oversight Board said, no you know the interesting thing that ive read in the ruling of the supreme court over facebook, the interesting part is that facebook would not turn over a lot of information its own Oversight Board requested about how its algorithms work. How it drives people to self reinforcing and extreme content. How it might have helped build the monster that it has has the Oversight Board to team. I thought that was significant and i think that speaks to a fundamental issue with facebook and that is the business model. And that is what i think people are going to be looking at in the coming months, lets look at these algorithms, lets look at how facebook really works and how other Social Medias really work and how they help increase polarization. How they augment extremism and in that sense, perhaps, how we can how they help weaken democracy, we need to examine it impaired coolly and see if that is what is happening.
