Leadership, something that now appears to be inevitable and the president s new goal, Getting at least one shot in 70 of americans by Independence Day and Getting 160 Million americans fully vaccinated by them. Dr. Anthony fauci joins me to explain how to Get there. I want to bring in meg tirell, and from the state of connecticut which has the highest Vaccine Count in the country. Good for you, connecticut. En suring that people Get their second shot, thats not that hard. Theyve signed on for it, but Getting the people for their first shot and these are people who dont want it. Yeah. Absolutely. The people who really wanted a Vaccine And Yesterday those were the people who signed up, who came in and came clicking on the appointment websites. Now the biden administration is focused on making it as easy as possible for people to be able to Get that shot so encouraging or directing the federal pharmacy appointments to have walkin appointments so you dont need an appointment and have State Sites to do that. We talked with Lina Hidalgo in texas. She said at their Fema Site there, at the peak they were doing 6,000 shots a day. That really dropped off a couple of weeks ago and now theyre trying to bring in live bands and shifting the hours so people who are working can come afterward and theyre trying to bring shots to people make them as easy as possible for people to Get in there and Get that first dose. Allison, lets talk about connecticut. Theyve done well Getting people vaccinated thus far. What are people like . Are they wearing masks out in the street and how does the State Plan to Get to those who are left . Yeah, you know, its a mix. We talked to someone out walking his dog this morning and he wasnt wearing a mask and i asked if heed been vaccinated and he said in the last four or five days he started to take his mask off when hes outside following cdc guidelines and he was talking about how freeing it feels and how much more comfortable he feels in states like these where they do have high rates of vaccination and was encouraging people to Get vaccinated. This feels good being able to do this. So the state is focused on trying to Get people vaccinated and that is the next big hurdle. Theyre planning to spend 13 Million in federal aid to reinforce messaging. We spoke to one doctor who said theyre in the third phase of vaccination right now. They started with having a lot of people who wanted to Get vaccinated and not enough supplies. Now they have the supplies and not enough demand. Listen here. I think there are lots of incentives to Getting the vaccine and the primary one is you wont Get sick or die and the other is you wont Pass Covid on to your family, friends, Loved Ones and particularly those who are elderly that could be at risk of dying, and i think we have to focus on the public Health Message here. I think the incentives are fun. I think they create a little buzz, but in the large run i dont think this is the way we should run a public health initiative. He said the key is clear communication and not so much quirky incentives like beer for shots. Meg, allison, thank you. Well bring in dr. Anthony fauci in just a moment. We have to Get back to the news just crossing. The Facebook Oversight Committee has just announced the decision on President Biden and theyre upholding the ban. Dylan biers. Cara, you didnt think this was going to happen. Remember i kept saying i hope im wrong. I just really like to bring you on when youre wrong. I dont mind in this case. I made the case that he should be banned and i was not relying on this body to do so. I still have a problem that 20 people did it, but its the right decision in this case. I have a column about to come out saying Donald Trump is an outlier. He violated the rules and it is not a bigger issue of public figures being censored in any way. Its that this guy has been a longtime troll and is now paying a price. Thats what happened on Twitter And Jack dorsey did at twitter was the correct thing to do, and i think this is the correct decision, and i just wish facebook had made it itself instead of making it a circus. I want to dig into that in a second. Dylan, your take. What are the implications of this decision. This isnt just a public Figure And Freedom of speech. If you dont take a stand after what happened on january 6th, where do you . Before we Get to that, stephanie, i want to provide more context on the nature of the decision that the Oversight Board made. They did uphold the suspension, yes. They said it was right for him right for facebook to suspend trump because he was in clear violation of promoting people and encouraging people who were engaged in violence. At the same time and admittedly, far down in the decision the Oversight Board said it was not appropriate for facebook to place an indefinite suspension on the president and really when theyre Getting to is this is very much an ad hoc decision. There are not clear policies from facebook about how you would apply this across the board, particularly to political leaders in other countries and therefore the Oversight Board is asking facebook, giving them six months to come up with clear standard policies whereby they can buy something like this across the board. This decision just came out and were still rooting through it, but my interpretation of it so far is the ban has been upheld and the initial ban and then the extension of the band. There is a strong recommendation here from the Oversight Board to establish clearer rules and this decision. I would not say as of now that we can confidently say that the former president is banned from Facebook Or Instagram for life. In terms of high school, former President Trump is still suspended and not yet expelled. Theres no punting back to facebook. This is selfpolicing. They created this 20person Group that facebook is paying. This isnt senate. This Isnt Congress and a regulatory body. Is this not just noise . They just punted it back to facebook. But they are facebook is sort of my point. Yes, paid for by facebook, they are created by facebook. They were picked by facebook. Hand picked. Hand picked by facebook, yes, but they are actually putting it in facebooks hands where it actually belongs. My issue is you can look at it as a bigger issue or Donald Trump is an outlier in this case and violates these rules consistently and trying to make it into a bigger case puts a lot more gravitas on Donald Trump than just a bad, what i think Reddit Ceo called, not a malevolent cooperator, but a malicious cooperator, essentially. Dylan, what do you think about that . Yeah. I think what i would say about the Oversight Board to butcher a quote from winston churchill, its not a great system, but its the best one available to us and heres why i say that. It is Incon Gruous to simultaneously argue that it has too much power over speech and at the same tim suggest that they should be in the power as Cara And Stephanie both know he runs that company. Should the loan be able to dictate whether or not a former president is allowed on such a powerful and influential platform . Should facebook have the power to create its own Oversight Board that it doesnt have to listen to . No. Its not ideal, but if juan inept government that cant Get out of its own Way And Cant impose that sort of Regulation And Oversight in and of itself, what are you left with . The decision is either marks or 20 respectable, smart people from around the world to make this decision. Its not perfect, but show me a better system . Regulation. Yes, no i totally agree, but thats the real issue here, dylan. Yeah. The issue is congress and stephanie, youve heard me say this before, if someone drives down your street at 90 miles an hour and puts your kids at risk and they do it over and over and over, at a certain point are you mad at the driver or mad at the police for failing to arrest that person . Cara, is all of this irrelevant of facebook or the outside Boards Decision . A gift to former President Trump. I havent talk about him and here we are, first story of the day, 9 00 a. M. , and on the heels of him announcing his own platform. Former President Trump has proved theres no bad news for him, as long as hes the person were talking about, hes winning. Like it or not he is controlling the republican party, so we should be paying attention with him. I dont go with that idea. I think this is a very important person who has used a digital tool rather effectively and this is the judgment on how hes done that and how hes violated it. I do think what dylan is saying is correct. This is the fault of the government to allow the companies to be so big. We shouldnt be in this situation, as for the board, theres not a whole lot of critics and if you want to have a real board, make it independent. Make it something thats not like that. I know its not ideal, but long ago, mark zuckerberg, mark was talking about the issues from china and hes facing us. Would you rather have china be in charge or u. S. Companies and i call him the sheer me argument and i call it the none. Where is the None Button because i agree with them, china is a big problem, but i dont want one person to be in charge and its a topic that weve staved off. Last point to you. I think caras right and when you look back on this time, a lot of us will talk about the too much power in the hands of Silicon Valley and the real story of our time will be the failure to adequately guide that ship in the right direction and the inability to understand the issue, and unless they Get their act toGether on that front, these decisions will continue to be made by the mark zuckerbergs of the world and that will be the story of our time. Partisanship and big, big, big lobbying dollars. We will be listening to facebooks media call in just a few minutes and if there is any breaking news, well bring you back. Cara dylan, i would like to talk to you all day, but there is one person that i want to talk to more and that is dr. Anthony fauci and he is next. So lets bring in the president s chief medical Adviser Dr. Anthony fauci. Thank you for your patience. I want to talk about the president s new goal, 70 . If we reach that goal, im guessing you helped him come up with that number, and 30 of americans dont Get the shot, whats the risk to the rest of us . Well, obviously, you want to see as many people as possible Getting vaccinated and youll never Get 100 , thats for sure, but 70 is an ambitious and attainable goal, the reason we got to that goal and the reason the president chose that is its very clear from other infectious diseases as well as observations with other countries including israel have done when they reach a certain level. Youre going to see a significant diminution in the number of daily cases which would mean less hospitalizations, less deaths and a real diminution in the total dynamics of the outbreak. So i believe well be able to Get there and as you mentioned on the runin to the show, we will do that by really having a change in strategy rather than having Mass Vaccination units and we want to Get on the ground recalcitrant group of people who dont want to Get vaccinated and make it really easy for them to Get vaccinated and have walkin situations like in the Tens Of Thousands of pharmacies and have mobile units and have trusted members of the community that are messengers, that people, regardless of their political affiliation would listen to. Those can be people in the clerjy and those could be a family doctor. Those could be media and sports and entertainment figures and were going to Get to them to appeal to the fact that they need to protect themselves. Because just last week, we had a wellknown Media Figure spreading misinformation. So dont we need to listen to the experts . Because when nonexperts who are Influencers Spread Misinformation they say dont listen to them. Theyre not a doctor. No, i said trusted messengers. I used the word trusted. Youre talking about people who know what theyre talking about and in fact, there is a program that is called covid community core, which is literally thousands of these people where the cdc is providing Realtime Information to them, correct information about the dynamics of the outbreak and about the kinds of messages that need to be sent so that those people can effectively and accurately reach out to people who dont want to be vaccinated and try to Get them to understand why its important for themselves and what i would call their societal responsibility to the community because its not only about protecting yourself and its about interrupting the dynamics of the outbreak and you do that by not allowing the virus to affect you even if you dont Get symptoms at all. If you Get infected you can inadvertently transmit it to someone who could have a serious outcome. How worried do we have to be about an outbreak. Earlier this week The New York Times ran a piece. Experts believe we will not reach Herd Immunity. Do we need to . Again, ive said it so many times over the past couple of weeks. Weve got to Get away from this elusive concept and elusive threshold. If you look at what Herd Immunity means, it means if you add up the people who are vaccinated and protected, the people who have been affected, recovered and have durable immunity and when you have enough of those and it will vary from disease to disease. Measles is different than Covid And Cove sid different from polio. The virus has little opportunity to find someone who is vulnerable, and even though there are vulnerable people in that herd. We dont know what that number is for coronavirus because weve never been through this experience before. So rather than people Getting hung up on this elusive threshold number, why dont we focus on the endgame and the endgame is to Get as many people vaccinated as we possibly can, as quickly as you can. If you do that with all of the unknowns that we have, the one thing that we absolutely know as a fact is that the more people dwru Get vaccinated and the lower and lower the number of infections will be in the community. Thats an absolute given. Soon, we may be able to vaccinate children and parents are asking, should they. It was obvious, given the risk of Senior Citizens in the beginning, we should vaccinate them and for parents who are asking, should they vaccinate their kids, it may not be obvious since the riblg of kids is much lower. What do you say to the parents on the fence . It isnt only about yourself and protecting yourself and by the way, its absolutely correct. Statistically, children have a much lesser chance of Getting a serious outcome. It isnt zero. We see plenty of children who Get into serious trouble, but relatively speaking the risk is lower, and you dont want them to be a part of the chain of transmission. Thats the point. It isnt only about you and its about Getting the level of infection in the community because that child, again, even if they dont Get any symptoms may inadvertently and totally innocently infect Someone Else who might actually have a severe outcome. So if you really want to Get control of the outbreak, you want to Get as many people vaccinated as quickly as you can no matter who they are. I want to stay on kids, and i want to share some Summer Camp guidelines that were put out by the cdc. They say everyone has to wear masks at all times, even if youre vaccinated and even if youre outside. Campers have to stay three feet apart. Campers and staff should be six feet apart and you should not be Share Anything toys or games. I know you said that those are conservative guidelines. Do you worry that the cdc is being too conservative and if they dont ease up some of these logical restrictions people are going to ignore them. I havent even looked, but im quite sure, but im sure there are countless facebook groups of moms, this is ridiculous. We already did everything. Were not going to do anything anymore. You have a point. They are conservative gid lines. The cdc will look at them, reevaluate them because the feedback were Getting is exactly what youre saying so youre absolutely right. That doesnt mean theyre going to change them around completely, but they need to relook at them because of the response, the reasonable response the community is having to them. I have to agree with you on that. Can i ask you, as someone who is double vaccinated, when you go outside and you go for a run, do you wear a mask . No. No. I dont. Do you think the president the president is wearing a mask. I think he might be double masking. Do you think he should change that behavior because its sending a mixed message to people . We do follow the president s lead. I think the president wants to be overly careful, but again, hes going to do what hes going to do. I dont think you should make that a negative thing because hes doing that, not at all. Once the Emergency Authorization is lifted on the vaccine, should companies, businesses require the vaccine . A company cannot require you to do anything, thats for sure. What you can have is you can have independent entities decide. It will never be a decision from the federal government down, but you can see there will be maybe Business Organizations that say, were not going to let anybody in unless theyre vaccinated. You can see some colleges are already talking about that. Im sure youre going to see some airlines that are going to say the same thing. So at the local level you will have individual entities almost certainly are going to require, not all of them, but some of them will require vaccinations. I want to read something actually about you. The Washington Post wrote about a Focus Group on the Vaccine Messaging and one of the pollsters wrote about the findings and said this. The data have shown that unfortunately, dr. Fauci has been politicized and we need different messengers because even the right messages coming from the wrong messengers arent always helpful. I have to ask you how does that make you feel . You have dedicated your whole professional life to working on infectious diseases and to working with the federal government for over 40 years and devoting yourself to science and protecting the american people. When you hear that quote, how do you feel . You know, i dont take those things personally. There is an aspect of that for certain people that are correct because if you look at the people that are politicizing me, theyre somebody that are all of the way over on one level, but there are other people who look upon me the way they should as a nonpolitical person that i am, as a public Health Person and listen to what i have to say. So if you have the extreme people, the very, very far off to one level, feel that they have politicized me. If you look at some of the congressional hearings that have gone on, its been a show. People Get up there like Congressman Jordan and senator rand paul, of course, they publicized me, but you know, it is what it is. You just go ahead and do what you have to do. You heard the breaking news a moment ago that facebook is upholding the Ban On Donald Trump, and im not asking you to be political. You know first hand, you saw first hand the power he has in messaging including spreading misinformation about the coronavirus. What is your reaction to this news . None. Im not going there. [ laughter ] you know what . That is entirely fair. Entirely fair. Dr. Fauci, thank you for joining me this morning. I appreciate it. Coming up, leave it to me. What do i do . Politicize him. House republicans now openly turning on congresswoman Liz Cheney. Our new reporting about her support slipping and the question is the party willing to say Trump Loyalty trumps policy . Im stephanie ruhle. More signs that congresswoman Liz Cheneys time as Gop Conference chair could be numbered. The number two house republican Steve Scalise is now backing new York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as a replacement for the Leadership Team this comes a day after Kevin Mccarthy was caught on a Hot Mike saying cheneys days were numbered and the audio obtained by axios. I think shes got real problems. Ive had it with her. Ive had it with her. You know, ive lost confidence. Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but i assume that will probably take place. Joining me now Capitol Hill Correspondent Garrett Hake and Bunch Poll News founder john bresnahan. I want to start with you. I think you have breaking news. President biden is going to back stefanik for gop to be Congress Chair and it will go public later Today And Stefanik has been telling her colleagues this morning that trump is backing her. So this is all about trump, in a way and now hes putting his thumb on the scale on stefaniks behalf. Hes not going public on facebook, but it does sound like he will make announcement. If former President Trump is onboard and we heard from Kevin Mccarthy, hes had it. It sounds inevitable. How soon could this happen . It will happen early next week. The house is out this week. Theyre back next week and the Republican Congress is supposed to meet wednesday and thats probably going to be it. Theres no shortage of House Republicans, happy to bring the motion that you heard from Kevin Mccarthy starting this process to have one more vote on cheneys tenure. I would be surprised if by this time next week were looking at that and by next Thursday Shes out of that role. Can you explain this for us . Shes not being removed from office and shes being removed from leadership. What does that actually mean . In the house, both parties, the caucuses elect their own leadership and the Speaker And Majority leader and the whip and the Conference Chairman and in this case, as conference chairwoman, Cheneys Job is the chief Messaging Officer for the Republican Congress and what you hear from some republican lawmakers is her feud from Donald Trump has made it impossible for her to deliver the rest of their message. This has become largely what she is asked about, and at least to hear House Republicans tell it they want Someone Else to be delivering their messages. These Leadership Positions have gobbled up a lot of the power in congress that used to be more spread among members and spread out to committee chairs. You see this in both parties you in, a half a dozen members elected by their own conferences and controlling much of what Gets done in the house . Why stefanik . It was Punch Bowl who was the first to report that Steve Scalise also backing her. Yeah. I mean, stefanik has been in ochs since 2014 and she was the youngest woman ever elected to Congress And Alexandra Ocasio Cortez beat her by a year. Shes smart, harvard grad and worked on the Romney Campaign and in 2019 she became should very active Trump Defender during his first impeachment proceeding and he dubbed her a rising star, and she office trumps Defense Team during the senate proceedings for the first trial and shes continued to speak out on his behalf and she became this big Trump Supporter and thats what they want in the house Republican Congress. So lets stay on it. A star in the show. I want to do something silly and actually talk about approximately see. Stefanik is a moderate compared to Liz Cheney and she voted against the Trump Tax cuts and to his point, she gained all of this attention during the Impeachment Hearings and shes in a regular and conservative media as a cheerleader for the former president. Is this a prototype, and it is not about policy and it is about the Trump Show and you support the claims that shell be in power. It appears that way and this is the challenge. House republicans dont entirely know what theyre for right now, but they know what theyre against and theyre trying to line up against the biden policy on the border, for example, and they know they still want to cast themselves as the party of Donald Trump. When cheney was first up for a leadership fight, Kevin Mccarthy defended her idea that the republican party, there should be room in the party for those who are critical of the former president and those who want to march behind him. That has clearly changed over the last couple of months and it appears whether mccarthy wants it this way or it is boxed in here that theyre going to run in 2022 as the party of Donald Trump come what may. All right then, john, the Wall Street Journal Ed Board, rupert murdochs Wall Street Journal, the Ed Board theoretically comprised of actual conservatives who support republican policies wrote this. Republicans should find a way to speak this truth to voters in 2022 and quickly turn to running on an agenda with the future that will check mr. Biden and his great Entitlement State Purging Liz Cheney for honesty would diminish the party. If there is any fear among republicans that Getting too far away from approximately see, is that not a concern . The Wall Street Journal lays it out there. If you want to be a conservative right now you can talk about joe bidens policies and talk about his Infrastructure Plan and how much It Costs and theyre not talking about that. Theyre saying Liz Cheney isnt nice to trump. Yeah, you make a great point. Garrett makes a great point. This is still the party of trump. It will be party of trump in 2022. Loyalty to trump is still the barometer inside the house republican conference especially. Look at some of the candidates for senate also. Theyre going down to maralago to, you know, try to Get trumps endorsement and look at brooks in alabama and this is still the party of trump. Hes running and you are looking at trumps Policy And Trump sets the policy. I think the Wall Street Journal right now the mainstream Conservative Movement and the mainstream republican establishment and theyre still having to deal with Trump And Trump is still inside the elected establishment in congress and at the local level and look at whats having in arizona on the ballot thats already been declared that biden won. This is because loyalty to trump is still the test right now. Lets remind our viewers, it is an unofficial audit by a group called the cyber ninjas. Thank you so much. We will leave it there. I want to move forward because we are in the month of may and it is asianamerican and pacific islander heritage month, but developing this morning the Aaip Community is waking up to word of another attack against members of their community. San Francisco Police have arrested a man suspected in the Stabbing Attack of two asian women at a Bus Stop yesterday. The two women, age 85 and 65 are recovering at a hospital nearby this morning. Authorities have not determined a motive and have not called the attack a hate crime, but they say they havent ruled it out. Hate crimes against asianamericans surged more than 160 during the first three months of 2021 when compared to a year ago, and a justlaunched foundation is looking to tackle that on. The asianamerican foundation is giving a record 125 Million to the aapi causes in the battle against hate and to also promote understanding, equality and justice. Joining us now the Foundation President Sanal Shaw and daniel dae kim. It is a lot of money. Money doesnt necessarily drive change, though. How will you effectively spend this . Thank you for having us and thank you for having us on aapi heritage month. It is so important. This is such an important moment in our own Communitys History to tackle on these issues of hate. This is not new for us. This is what were seeing what were seeing on tv today, this is not new, its been happening for years and those of us saw it on 9 11 and today were seeing harsher attacks and yesterdays were horrific. So our focus is three parts. We are a convener, an incubator and a funder. We will fund organizations that are working on hate. There are organizations that are working in our communities and our communities havent been Getting that much money. They Get. 5 of resources from foundations,. 5, 0. 5 for 23 Million people and we want to make sure were funding those organizations and we want to make sure were supporting our communities on hate, responding to hate, collecting the information and defending the victims and making sure they have the ability to do that and thats critical for us to do. The second part well work on is data and research, and we have 20 different ethnicities and Pacific Islander Communities and what we do and where the issues are and finally, were going to fund education. Aapi History Isnt even a part of american History And Weve been here for generations and making sure our history is a part of the american story. Daniel, why are you doing this . What do you want to accomplish . Just to Dove Tail on Everything Sonal says, all of these efforts with the goal in mind to change the narrative about asianamericans, to change this idea that somehow we are conditional citizens. When things are going well, we are considered part of america and when things start to go badly we can be blamed that occur half a world away and suddenly were being attacked and its relentlessly so. There was one yesterday and another one in Mission Bay where a man was attacked and unprovoked while he was strolling with his 1yearold toddler. These things continue and its part of the narrative of who we are and we need to create the true narrative instead of allowing misperception to continue. Sonal, and were seeing this increase in Hate Crimes against asianamerican, but youve dealt with a lot of these issues your entire life. Talk to us about how this has impacted you personally. I was during 9 11 my family was affected all of the time. We would Get pulled out of line. We would Get called racial slurs and it happened on a daily basis and i see it with my friends now where so many of them, their parents are afraid to leave their neighborhood and its a vietnamese neighborhood and theyre scared to go out into the community. So we have to be able to stand with our communities. We have to be able to defend our communities and we have to make them not afraid. Just yesterday, we saw a story about a young child and this teenager being punched because he was asianamerican and this is ridiculous. This is not the country we are. Its not the country where we grew up and not the country we should be. How has this impacted you personally . It affects me directly because im in the media. Im in a job where my appearance matters. Whats going on with the asianamerican community will directly reflect on Entertainment And Vice versa and stereotyping. So its also very personal to me because my parents live here. My family lives here. My children live here, and they live in an area right now where there have been attacks and on a daily basis were checking in with each other asking whether we are okay. Regardless of what your socioeconomic class is, if you look like we do right now you are a tarGet and that is very personal to me. We see you. We support you. Lets head To Minneapolis where Derek Chauvins lawyer has filed a motion seeking a new trial two weeks after the former officer was found guilty of murder in the death of george floyd. Nbcs Megan Fitzgerald is in Chicago And David henderson joins us, a civil Rights Attorney and former prosecutor. What is all of this about . Im hearing a photo posted by one juror . Steph, good morning. A lot to unpack here, but first, important to note that many Legalec Perts will tell you that this idea that Derek Chauvins attorney Eric Nelson filed a motion for a new trial is expected. In this Fourpage Motion it talks about several grounds in which they believe that Derek Chauvin didnt Get a fair trial including this denial of a change of venue. The idea of the publicity surrounding this case in the media and it goes on to call the judges actions a failure to sequester the jury, but as you mentioned, Getting back to this juror, Brandon Mitchell thats standing out here. This is a guy that talked to nbc as well as other Media Outlets about his experience as a juror and there is a picture circulating showing him in a black Lives Matter tshirt saying Get your knee off our necks and it took place on a March Last Summer commemorating Martin Luther King jr. , and they were asked about their actions or not in participation in any marches surrounding police brutality, but this juror told the Star Tribune in minneapolis that he answered all of those questions honestly and also certainly worth pointing out, steph, that there was no mention of Brandon Mitchell in that motion that was filed last night by Derek Chauvins attorney. David, does the Defense Attorney have a good argument here . He chose all of those jurors. He asked them all of the questions beforehand, come on. Steph, i think youre hitting the nail on the head and honestly this goes back to something we discussed in the beginning of the trial and that was the Jury Selection was very short on this case considering how much time the lawyer his and they should have vetted them more. Everything you heard from megan is correct. The motion for a new trial includes everything in addition to the Kitchen Sink and thats to be expected. Cahill told nelson that representative waters gave Him Grounds For Appeal and she encouraged people to be more confrontation if a not guilty verdict came back for Derek Chauvin. What they have to prove is that he lied to Get on the jury to somehow sway the jury. People lie to Get out of Jury Service all of the time. Ive only seen people lie to Get on a jury in the movies. Bottom line, do you think were Getting a new trial . No. I think cahill may grant a hearing to explore these issues and hes been conservative for anyone showing preference for black Lives Matter and police brutality. I dont think Hell Grant a motion for a new trial. Thank you so much. Well leave it there. According to the brennan center for justice, texas leads the nation with 49 proposed bills that would impact voting rights. Pricilla is joining us, the ceo of Warby Parker is also joining us. Conventional wisdom would say more Voting Access is better for all voters. House bill six and seven may have changes that limit that access to voting. Just the applications automatically a state felony. As we know during the pandemic there was a number of counties in the state that automatically sent those applications to vote by bail to people who automatically qualify. That now becomes a non. In addition, people who are helping folks who News Extra assistance voting, so perhaps they have a disability or a language barrier. Those people helping them will have to fill out a form to detail why theyre helping. Forcing that person that disclose what that issue is. Another point that is Getting a lot of attention is that partisan Poll Workers are now allowed to film voters they suspect of doing something unlaw enforcement. This is a democracy. And it is supposed to be a government for the people, by the people, and if you suppress Peoples Ability to vote you tear at the heart of our government. Texas lawmakers are now threatening retribution against company thats are speaking out. Are you worried about that . We have 14 stores in texas, about 150 employees, and we need to speak up on their bha, and if theyre going to try to retaliate against the Business Community for doing what is right, then so be it. What could it cost your business . Probably more than what the Voter Suppression could do. When you start suppressing the vote and continue, right, these laws are now being proposed in 40 states, were going to destabilize the country and create a worse business environment. So there are long term effects here to the Voter Presentation Suppression bills. What is their rational. What is their reasoning why they would do this . The messaging is around election security. This is the most secure election we had. Right, youre exactly right that is something we certainly talked about on our network, but republicans continue to say this is expanding access and making these more secure. But what were seeing is direct backlash to some of the things that republicans did try to stop in the fall, for example, in hows voters were allowed to do drive through voting during the pandemic. They had 24 voting as a way to increase access. And republicans at that time if you remember they sued Harris County over that drive through voting seeking to throw out more than 100,000 ballots.
