Reports. I got to get used to the new name. We begin with Breaking News in washington, d. C. , where this may day, thousands are on the National Mall Calling for real action from congress and the White House on immigration reform. Julie ainsley is there for us as she has been for the last few hours. Julia, talk about the message that youre Hearing Today from these protesters. What do you know . Reporter well, its a message of frustration. They want to see more action both from the White House pushing immigration Reform And Congress to actually take it up and take a vote on it, and were also hearing from a lot of people who say, look, these are Essential Workers, and were talking about 11 Million undocumented workers to the United States, theyre essential to bringing the United States through the pandemic and now those people need to be given some kind of assurance that they wont be deported under this administration. Ive also been talking to dreamers. In fact, i have one Id Love to introduce you to. She is a 20yearold Dreamer who came all the way here from pennsylvania. Tell me, what brought you here today . Yes, Thank You for having me today. Were here today to push and to show congress and the president that he did make a promise and were here to be heard and that he has to fulfill that promise. Like you mentioned, we are Essential Workers, and we need security that we wont be losing our jobs, not only for myself or 10, 20, 100 people but thousands of people. Reporter and youre a dreamer. Tell me your story. Yes, i am a dreamer. I was brought when i was 9 months old. Ive never gone to my country. I was born in mexico and i am a student, im a college student, im an essential worker, and i also am a paralegal in immigration law, and involving with all that, im a taxpayer. I work. Im doing everything thats right, and i still dont see a secure pathway to citizenship like tps holders and all my Essential Workers here and all the 11 Million undocumented folks here today. You are certainly essential. Thank you. So, as you can hear, there are a lot of people who want some kind of certainty, some kind of security, something that they really expected from this administration coming out of the last administration. And so far, they havent been able to see that from this presidency, and so theyre making their voices heard loud and clear today, alex, as you can hear behind me. Absolutely. Well, were 100 daysplus in, well see what the next hundred days brings on immigration reform. Thank you so much. Also this hour, new developments in the right leg investigation. The former Trump Lawyer tells Nbc News he plans a big statement sometime this afternoon on the federal raids of his home and office. Our camera was there as he left his new York City home this morning. Although he has made the rounds defending himself on conservative media, he deferred comment when our journalist asked. Reporter mr. Mayor, what do you think if the people want a statement about this whole thing, ill Break Something really big later this afternoon in New Jersey. Well, Nbc News confirmed manhattan prosecutors are looking into giulianis dealings with ukraine, his efforts to have former u. S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch removed from her position and whether those violated the registration act. Lindsey reiser is outside Giulianis Home in new York City. Lindsey, i guess were all waiting to see when mr. Giuliani will make this statement. Any sense of a timeline at least . Reporter hey, alex, yeah, our crew was the only one to talk to him this morning about that and were still working to figure out when and if that big Press Conference or breaking something big in New Jersey will happen. But we do know that we havent seen him back here at his residence since that happened. We know weve been getting a lot of reaction from lawmakers on all sides here and also giuliani himself. Hes been talking to newsmax a lot. Hes been on his own Podcast Professing his innocence here. And again, it all goes back to this raid that happened this week. His doorman let Fbi Agents up. Those agents showed the Search Warrant to giuliani, and they took a cell phone, a computer, and a laptop. They were here for about 45 minutes. They also executed a Search Warrant at his office. But its exactly what you had mentioned. Nbc news has confirmed this is in relation to potential evidence surrounding that 2019 firing of ambassador yovanovitch. Meanwhile, Giulianis Attorney is calling this entire Raid Thuggery here, organized thuggery. He says that giuliani never lobbied for any kind of foreign Official Or Government and also says he only publicly spoke out about yovanovitch because he believed that she was undermining then president trump. So, giulianis coming out to defend himself. Also, other allies are doing the same. Heres Roger Stone on newsmax last night. This is the this is the biden Justice Department, even under president Donald Trump, it was the obama Justice Department. It is an outrage what theyre doing to mayor giuliani. My family and i, we are praying for him, because hes a good man and hes being unfairly harassed. Reporter and giulianis own comments, hes been echoing that as well, calling the d. O. J. Unethical and corrupt but we should mention our Colleague Craig Melvin sat down with President Biden this week and he asked him, did you have any Advance Notice this raid was going to happen, and the president said, absolutely not. He found out at the same time the public did. Alex . Okay, lindsey reiser, Thank You so much for that update. Lets bring in joyce vance, professor at the university of Alabama School of law and former u. S. Attorney. Joyce, welcome, my friend. Its good to see you. What do you make of this view being taken by Roger Stone, Donald Trump, others that giuliani is being treated unfairly . Well, as they know, its just talk. Its nothing more than that, because theres no One Person inside of the Justice Department whos making a decision to go, and as they put it, Raid Giulianis House and office. What really happens is the agents and prosecutors have to put together a detailed affidavit. The agent swears its true under oath, under penalty of perjury, and they have to present that affidavit to a federal judge who scrutinizes it to make sure theres probable cause to issue a Search Warrant. Its only after that judge, whos independent of d. O. J. , not, you know, no telling who that judge was appointed by, but certainly an independent actor, only after that judge signs off on the warrant is a search executed. So this is not a witch hunt. Its not the obama or the biden Justice Department. Its established procedure for investigating a criminal case. And Rudy Giuliani calling it a witch hunt, i mean, he surely knows better. He knows everything it takes to get some sort of a Search Warrant like this, right . Giuliani is the former united States Attorney in the southern district of New York. Theres No Doubt that he would have sought and executed Search Warrants against attorneys while he was in office. He is fully familiar with how this procedure works, and i think that makes it really even more heinous that he would try to lie to the american people about the Justice System that he was a part of. Well, heres something that he claims, and that is that trumps Attorneyclient Privilege is being violated by the seizure of his electronic devices. Do you envision the southern district of New York being sloppy enough to allow constitutional infringements to arise . Not only would they not be that sloppy, d. O. J. Has set procedures that are used when you search an attorneys office. Thats rare, and it requires approval from the highest levels of the Justice Department because of concerns about Attorneyclient Privilege. And so, prosecutors and investigators will use whats called a clean team or a Taint Team that reviews Evidence And Information to make sure that theres not any privileged information. Often material will be submitted to a special master, someone who will make that determination, and its only after that determination is made that the prosecutors and agents working on the case get to see the fruits of the search. Theres this hard, Big Wall that keeps them from seeing anything that might be privileged. Yeah, so, michael cohen, of course, another former trump attorney, predicts that giulianis going to flip on Donald Trump. First of all, are investigators hoping for that sort of outcome, and is there anything about Rudy Giulianis behavior, things hes said over the last few years that indicate to you, yeah, hes someone who might flip . I dont know the answer to that question, alex. I think it turns on what charges are prosecutors envisioning against giuliani, and are they actually going to indict him, because its most likely that at the point where they approached him and said, look, weve got an indictment, were ready to go to the grand jury, thats when there would actually be some effort to cut a deal by giuliani. If he has credible information on the president , the former president of the United States, that he could offer prosecutors, prosecutors are always interested in finding the most culpable participants in any criminal conduct and prosecuting them, right . Its you want to be at the top of the food chain. So, giuliani would certainly have that opportunity if he has information of that nature to offer. Okay. Joyce, i want to get your take on whats happening with the Judges Decision in North Carolina this week, Withholding Body Cam video in the Police Shooting of Andrew Brown jr. He said that the family should be allowed to view the video within ten days, but then he also allowed for heavy redactions to protect the officers involved. I mean, thats some kind of Needle Threading that hes trying to do there, yeah . It is, and these are difficult decisions, because theres the need that the family has for truthful information, and there is also, one hopes, an investigation going on into the officers conduct that has to be conducted in a way that preserves the ability of prosecutors at some point in time if there is an indictment to introduce evidence at trial. So, there are these duelling priorities, but what they point to is how important it is for Police Departments to maintain credibility with the community and if theyre going to talk about how a shooting occurred and if there is video, withholding that video is not something that promotes the credibility of that department. So this is a challenge. Police are going to have to meet if they wish to maintain credibility and in fact restore credibility that their community gives to them. All right, joyce vance, always appreciate your insights and expertise. Thank you. So, back to washington. New reaction to a bombshell daily Beast Report about the investigation into congressman matt gaetz. In a confession letter, reportedly written by gaetzs associate, joel greenberg, the Daily Beast says greenberg claims he and Congressman Gaetz paid for sex with multiple women as well as a girl who was 17 at the time. And greenberg reportedly wrote the letter while working with Roger Stone to try to secure a pardon from then president Donald Trump. I want to make the point that Nbc News has not obtained nor seen this letter and has not been able to verify the contents. Let go right to Ali Vitali on Capitol Hill with the latest on this. What we can talk about is reaction from members of congress. What are you hearing . Reporter thats exactly right, alex. This is really the latest twist in the controversy surrounding Florida Congressman Matt gaetz, especially because you have the federal probe thats ongoing regarding these allegations of Sex Trafficking and whether or not he had sex with a minor, in addition to the ongoing house Ethics Investigation that was announced several weeks ago, but youre right, this latest twist includes a letter reported by the Daily Beast that joel greenberg, a friend of gaetzs, sent to Roger Stone, a trump ally, during the waning weeks of the Trump Administration. Now, again, its important, as you mentioned, Nbc News has not obtained or verified this letter, but in it, apparently, greenberg outlines a lot of the allegations that both he and gaetz participated in and lays them out so stone could hopefully get him a pardon as the Trump Administration was on its way out. Its important to note that the gaetz and that gaetz, through a spokeswoman, is, again, denying this and i want to pull up on the screen that statement and read from it. The spokeswoman says, Congressman Gaetz has never paid for sex, nor has he had sex with a 17yearold as an adult. Politico has reported mr. Greenbergs threats to make false accusations against others and while the daily Beast Reporting contains a lot of confessions from mr. Greenberg, it does not add anything of substance and certainly no evidence for the wild and false claims about Representative Gaetz. The statement goes on to say, in fact, the story goes some way to showing how Congressman Gaetz was long out of touch with mr. Greenberg and had no interest in involving himself in mr. Greenbergs affairs. Roger stone now, for his part, is calling this a smear attempt, adding, i made no effort whatsoever to secure a pardon for mr. Greenberg, and i took not a dime from him or anyone else seeking a pardon. I have seen no substantiation or actual proof of the wild accusations hes made against gaetz. Desperate men often tell lies in an effort to implicate others. In addition, alex, we mentioned the house Ethics Investigation is ongoing but reaction here is still continuing to poor in on Capitol Hill, including Congressman Clyburn just a few hours ago with you. Listen. We should keep all of these investigations sterile. We ought not have anybody sitting anywhere that could cause some doubt to be thrown on the investigations. I think Representative Gaetz has been seem to be activities that should be scrutinized and we ought not have anybody thinking that he is in some place that he could short circuit the scrutiny. Reporter so, again, we dont know what the ultimate results of the ongoing federal probe is going to be, nor do we know the results of that house ethics committee investigation. Those things are still ongoing. Gaetz, for his part, both in public appearances and through these statements, has consistently denied these allegations. Many thanks from Capitol Hill. President biden is preparing to travel next week and sell his proposals to americans. Lets go to Nbcs Shannon Pettypiece joining us from washington. Welcome. Whats next on tap for the administration . Reporter well, this Sales Pitch continues for this 2 Trillion infrastructure plan. The president is going to be making stops in virginia and louisiana next week and the hope is that this public pressure, the White House is trying to build will translate into pressure on members of congress who still havent been able to get a bipartisan deal together to counter this 2 Trillion Infrastructure Proposal which does not have enough support as it currently stands. Now, it does seem to be a matter of when, not if, and Thats Something that the president has reiterated, and alex, i know you asked representative clyburn about this a couple of hours ago and heres what he had to say about the timing and the decision to move on this. The Price Tag is big, but the Price Tag of not doing this is much, much bigger. And i think we ought to take that into account as we talk about what the cost is to this country. Reporter so, there is growing pressure in congress for biden to act unilaterally, just with democrat support. The White House is saying that theyre going to give it a couple weeks for republicans to come back with a counter proposal. Theres a few members in the senate trying to come up with a bipartisan agreement. But White House officials say that if they are not seeing progress by memorial day, so, by The End of this month, they will reassess this effort to go on a bipartisan route and look at other options, and one of those other options could be getting this through with democrats alone if, of course, they can get the moderate democrats on board as well. Okay. Shannon pettypiece, Thank You so much for all that. Getting the rich and big companies to pay for bidens new agenda. Is it really that simple . Hat sie the bowls are back. Applebees irresistabowls all just 8. 99. Text Chime Text Chime Text Chime sighs Text Chime chuckles Text Chime its the biggest week in television. Watchathon week is your chance to finally watch shows you missed for free. Now you get to talk about them with your friends, no matter what time it is. Say watchathon into your voice remote and watch for free the Tax System Today is not fair. Flat out. Not fair. When 1 of the american public make more money than the vast majority of the american people combined, the idea you have 55 corporations as of last year making over 40 Billion and didnt pay a single penny in federal tax . Come on. President biden there doubling down on his plan to raise taxes for corporations and the wealthy after unveiling two new costly initiatives focused on Infrastructure And Child care. The price of those plans on top of bidens covid Relief Bill passed earlier this year, thats raising some eyebrows as the total cost tops 6 trillion, but the president says, investing in these initiatives pays off in the longterm. Joining me now, derek hamilton, founding director of the institute on race and political economy at the new school. Hey, good to see you. Thank you so much for joining me. And im curious, first question, what do you make of the president s plan and his plan to pay for it . Because hes essentially saying that these initiatives can improve lives of americans without unleashing years of inflation and slowing growth. Do you think thats possible . I do. I mean, i think its necessary, not only possible. I mean, we clearly need investment in our public infrastructure, private public infrastructure as it relates to physical, human, and environmental infrastructure. And the issue of capacity to pay for it, i mean, realistically, inflation has not been a problem in america for at least 50 years. The government has great capacity to fund these initiatives. What about the new reporting, darrick . They fear bidens going to close their favorite tax loopholes. Can taxing the rich work or will the rich and corporations just find more loopholes . I mean, even the framing of this, loopholes and finding more loopholes, how is it that loopholes are able to persist . Part of the beauty of Wealth Tax and other ways of raising corporate taxes is to rein in some of the plutocracy. We would be naive to not think that that impacts our ability to implement public policy. So, you know, Tax Reform is necessary, even to promote democracy. But theres also concern, darrick, as to whether or not the economys going to overheat, if you will, pushing up price increases, making it difficult for Middle Class Americans and families to afford the everyday goods. Already, used car prices, for example, look how much theyve gone up, nearly 10 . Look at meat prices, beef, pork chops, thats up almost 6 over the past year. And yet, the New York times reporting that diapers, cereal, toilet paper, all of its going to get more expensive. So, do you think, first of all, that these higher prices are here to stay . Or then do you think its realistic that these prices will come down after some sort of a blip . You know, it becomes a problem if were not spending on productive capacities, but again, if we start naming the aspects in which we want to spend, those surely are productive capacities. I mean, if we think about shoring up our Healthcare System so that when were faced with the next pandemic were better protected with more resiliency, when we think about our environmental concerns, frankly, 2 Trillion is not going to be enough. When we consider the fact that, you know, a place like miami is under threat that through a hurricane, theyre going to face mass flooding. Theres a lot of investments. And then, you know, ill say one last point. Thinking about spending in americas most productive resource, which is its people, promoting jobs, promoting people to go to work, that cant be conceived of as deficit spending. That is our most treasured resource. So the concern about inflation, i think, needs to be muted when we consider the fact that theres lots of productive capacities that we need to invest in. Yeah. And darrick, bidens Tax Hike, it does appear to be pretty popular with americans, overwhelmingly so to some degree. Investors, business daily, we should note thats a rightwing newspaper, found that Bidens Capital gains Tax Hike is popular not only with the general public but even with investors who favor it by a three to one margin. Whatever small number of voters democrats might alienate is offset many times over by republican leaning voters that they might appeal to. How do republicans, then, tell people theyre against taxing the super wealthy when its so widely popular . And this is what im so excited about. There seems to be a shift in the american psyche away from, i think, the past 40 years or so where we thought that the sole engine of growth was through corporate spending. That somehow if corporations were able to thrive, that would create something that trickles down through all of us. I think the american people and particularly Joe Biden is pushing back on that narrative. Theyre recognizing theres another way to invest in our Industrial Policy and our trade policy, and that is the american people directly. Put money into the american people and not only will that benefit them directly, but it will create a pathway for corporations to thrive. You know, imagine workers being able to go to work and not be so concerned about elder at home in their care. This is why we need to invest in a care economy. Theyll be more productive at work. Okay. Darrick hamilton, im glad to hear youre excited about all that and Thank You so much for the chat. Appreciate you. It is a simple solution to stopping the spread of covid around the world, but can major Pharmaceutical Companies get behind it . Well Take A Look. Utical compant behind it . Well Take A Look. Thats jeremy, right there were literally riding together. He gets touchy when you talk about his lack of friends. Can you help me out here . We didnt stop at storage or cloud. We kept going. Working with our customers to enable the kind of technology that can guide an astronaut back to safety. And help make a hospital come to you, instead of you going to it. So when it comes to your business, you know well stop at nothing. Now to concerning new data in the coronavirus pandemic. A poll shows 20 of americans still say they wont get a vaccine. Last hour, i spoke with California Congressman and Emergency Physician Raul ruiz who thinks there is a way to convince skeptics. At one point, youre going to vaccinate that Skeptics Wife and their children and their children are going to tell them that before they need to before they can see their grandchildren, theyre going to need to get vaccinated, so the more you vaccinate the people around their community and their family, then youre going to help convince them. And that makes sense. Masks will now be required in airports and on airplanes until september 13th. The tsa extended the mandate, which was set to expire on May 11th and vaccines and supplies from the u. S. And russia are arriving in India Today as that country struggles to control the spread of the virus. For the tenth day in a row, india recorded a global record for new daily cases, adding more than 400,000 infections. And today, officials there are opening vaccinations to everyone above age 18, a move that wont mean much unless they have enough supply. Nbcs Molly Hunter is joining me from london with the very latest on this really difficult situation, molly. We know the u. S. , as i say welcome to you, my friend, the u. S. Is going to send about A Hundred Million Dollars Worth of supplies. More than 40 other countries have sent aid. Is there a sense that its helping yet . Reporter hey, alex, thats right, desperate, tragic situation. Now, you mentioned the Vaccine Centers and the age of eligibility. Thats good news, right, so 150,000 vaccines arrived from russia today. The u. S. , as you mentioned, sending 100 Million worth of aid. That includes Oxygen Canisters so 10,000 Oxygen Canisters, 4,000 oxygen concentrators, thats the u. S. And 40 other countries. The u. S. Has also sent ppe and diagnostic tests but this wave in. What experts say they need is more oxygen. They need therapies to start saving lives right now and alex, they need really skilled medics, manpower on the ground to start building Field Hospitals to triage and start saving lives on The Street right now. You know, i mean, its absolutely brutal. I mean, just oxygen. Think about people, patients that need oxygen, not even just for Covid Treatment but people that perhaps live at home and need oxygen. I mean, how are they even beginning to get this replenished . Reporter and weve seen really harrowing pictures, alex, in the last couple of days, people waiting outside for hours for a canister of oxygen, and its why medical experts say this is so crucial to get more Oxygen Canisters to the country. But Take A Look at these tweets, alex. Look, in crises, we see people take to Social Media to ask for help. Ive never seen anything like this. Take a look at these tweets. People are writing, the age, the clinic condition, the exact location, a 58yearold needs remdesivir. A 33yearold needs an icu bed. A 36yearold needs oxygen, and alex, Take A Look at this fourth tweet. A direct response, oxygen was delivered at 1 00 a. M. So, whats happening, alex, Hundreds Of Thousands of these tweets are going out, listing all of this personal data. People are responding. So, ngos, small organizations, religious groups, the Youth Arms of other Political Parties are actually responding and you saw in one of those tweets, they said, please amplify. Theyre talking to celebrities, so tv hosts, to bollywood actors and if you look at some of these twitter timelines, its just a sea of retweets of people desperately seeking basic medical supplies for their loved ones, alex. The Healthcare System is collapsing and people are dying because they dont have basic things like oxygen. God, its just heartbreaking but i got to tole you, it bring tears to my eyes that people are going to twitter and maybe something will come of that. Thank you so much, molly, for bringing that story to us. Appreciate it. Back in the u. S. , a much different Coronavirus Situation here in new York City. The mayor is moving toward a 100 reopening by july 1st. Lets go to cori coffin. Shes in Central Park with definitely the best assignment of the day today. Cori, lets talk about the other covid protocols. We look at july 1st, great, but will those still be in place . Are people still going to have to wear masks, Temperature Checks when you go into stores or restaurants . What do you know . Reporter yeah, i think for the most part, this is going to be a Play It by Ear Situation for many businesses, choosing what they are comfortable with. Now, we do know that many of the Mask Guidance correlations that we have, guidances, i should say, are going to remain. So, for example, the cdc talking about Mask Guidance outside, we have seen fewer people wearing it outside. But indoors, they will still urge even in new York City, once it becomes fully reopened, to keep your mask on at places in doors. It will be up to individual businesses to decide if they want to continue to do Temperature Checks. Now, this is obviously it holds a lot of gravity for people in this city. You can see how many people are out here today. Its a beautiful day, and after more than a year of being largely closed, this really is some major news, but not everyone is on board. Some City Leaders are urging caution, and then governor cuomos going the opposite route, alex. He and bill de blasio, once again, publicly butted heads over this timeline, cuomo saying its irresponsible to set a Target Date. Listen in. July 1. You have may, you have june. You know, what happens in may, what happens in june . I would like to get the reopening hopeful, hopeful Reopening Date before that. I really do disagree with the governor on some very important matters and i think, and i have been clear about it, he should not remain in office after the things that he has done. But that doesnt change the mission. The mission is to get this city fully reopened. Our Healthcare Team worked to determine what was the date that we could do it the right way. They believe in july 1st. Reporter all right, so, whether or not the actual date is going to be july 1st, we do know that the Governors Office does have the ability to supercede the mayors wishes here, so well see what it ends up being, but alex, either way, that means 100 capacity for bars and restaurants and hair salons, nail salons, gyms, all of these quintessential places that have been closed for so long. But as i mentioned, the business to Business Decision Aspect of it, for example, broadway is not going to be open on july 1st. They have set a Target Date of september, and then even madison square garden, the ownership for them, they have said, you know, theyre going to urge caution moving forward. They dont know if they will have 100 capacity. This is all stuff that is up in the air, but making big News Today saying july 1, new York City is back. Yeah. Back and forth between those two leaders is funny. I could see Andrew Cuomo making it July 2 just because he could. Anyway, there you have it. Thank you so much, cori coffin. Joining me you is a physician, so were awfully glad to have you here, sir. Congressman, lets Take A Look first at the Covid Crisis in india. You know the u. S. Is sending the country 100 Million worth of supplies and that includes oxygen, masks, tests and the like. The biden administration will share its stockpile of Astrazeneca Vaccine doses with countries in need, and that of course likely will include india. The congressional India Caucus is urging the president to do more for india. What more do you think needs to be done . Well, alex, thanks for having me on, and our hearts go out to what were seeing happening in india, and its tragic. And as the senior indianamerican Member Of Congress and a member of that very same caucus, i think i applaud the biden administration for stepping up. I do think working with india to provide the raw ingredients for vaccines, so indias got vaccine manufacturing capacity. Thats not going to help with this immediate crisis. Getting ppe out there, getting testing, encouraging the people of india to really, to the extent possible, lock down. Its painful. Its tough. We did it here in California In January and february. But its really the only way to try to drive these Virus Numbers down. I want to pick up on something there, your democratic Colleague Ro Khanna is calling for companies to license their Vaccine Recipes, if you will, license that to india, but his call comes as africa expresses alarm, officials there are worrying about delays in Vaccine Deliveries and its certainly keeping an eye on india and its struggles with the deadly covid resurgence. What do you, sir, think of the idea of sharing Vaccine Recipes and do you think this is a clear example of the challenges in Beating Coronavirus on a global scale . Last question, what happens if we dont eradicate this virus . Alex, i think youre right on here. In this particular case, in this pandemic that is moving so quickly now, weve got to resource the worlds manufacturing capacity. Certainly, ive spoken with folks at johnson johnson. Thats, you know, a vaccine thats a little bit more easier to manufacture, and you probably could license that with others. The mrna vaccines are slightly different but again, we dont beat this virus until we vaccinate the entire world, so i think we do have to work together to just ramp up as much as we can. Yeah. And here in the u. S. , as you know, 100 Million americans now fully vaccinated, which is amazing, but as nearly half the country gets vaccinated, youve heard the concerns that are growing about those who are still hesitant to get the shot. Could this kind of hesitancy prevent herd immunity, and how best can we deal with skeptics . You know, it possibly could. The truth is, we are now starting to see fewer people sign up for some of these vaccine appointments, so weve got to go into the communities, almost on a door by door basis, find these folks, talk to them where they are, meet them where they are. Were starting to see Community Health centers and Others Partner with churches and trusted institutions in some of the harder to reach communities but then, you know, lets keep the politics out of this. Look at whats happening in india. So thats a warning to those of us here in the United States, lets get vaccinated, lets not go into another lockdown, and this is a race against time. Yeah, okay, well, dr. Bera, there ends the questions on that side of the coin in which the hat youre having to wear considering you wear two of them. Lets get to politics with the President And Vice president. Theyre on the road. Theyre selling their Infrastructure Package and families plan. How much selling do you think they have to do . Do you think americans want to see more in this plan . Do they want to see things like expanding medicare . Yeah, i think that were at an inflection point. I was listening to your prior guest, and you know, The End of reaganomics was probably occurring and might be this is the beginning of bidenomics where were going to build from the ground up, rebuild a strong Middle Class and those at the very top have done very well the last 40 years. Lets start investing in families. Lets start investing in ladders of opportunity, investing in making college affordable again and vocational and technical training, rebuilding america thats competitive and that requires investing in the broad swath of america and i think thats what the president is out there selling the country on. Let me ask if you think they can sell the senate on this because as you know, the president s going to plan to pay for all these packages with a tax on the rich and corporations and it may be a very popular idea with americans, but it faces stiff opposition in the senate. How does this get sold to republican lawmakers . Yeah, its going to get be tough to get ten senate votes. Love to see this happen in a bipartisan way. But i think the president s doing exactly what he did on Wednesday Night at the state of the union, selling it and speaking directly to the american public, and you know, theres all elected officials, at The End of the day, weve got to respond to our constituents and the people we work for. If theyre on board, then hopefully youll get some senators on board. Thank you for speaking directly with me, sir, i appreciate you. Governor desantis is expected to sign a bill into law that would limit ballot dropboxes, restrict third Party Voter Registration organizations, and make it harder to vote by mail. Joining me now is florida State Representative dan daly. Im glad to talk to you about this because i know youve called this bill unnecessary, confusing, antidemocratic. How could this impact the outcomes of floridas elections . First, Thank You, alex, so much for having me and for covering this important issue because we need to get the word out. This is the same tactic that you have seen in georgia and that youre seeing in other states, and all that we need to hear in florida is the Governors Signature and this thing goes into law. And i mean all of those things. I do believe its unnecessary, i do believe its confusing and i do believe its antidemocratic and what is amazing to me is republicans in florida, the governor included, came out after the last election and said, were a shining example. We are what every other state should be when it comes to elections. We did a great job. The bill sponsor himself had tweeted out that were a shining example of efficiency rather than the punchline, and yet here we are with this bill making it harder for people to vote. It really just doesnt make any sense. Let me drill down on that. Do you think this bill was designed to make it harder for democrats to win in florida . 1,000 . If you look at the numbers of people that requested Absentee Ballots in florida and then returned them, either through the mail or in a drop box, which are two of the provisions that are addressed in this bill, its absolutely looking to curb that kind of turnout in a nontrump year, right . In a trump year, Republicans Rnts as worried because people are going to go to the ballot and obviously, look, the republicans had a very good year in florida. They picked up seats in the State House in the body that i serve in, in the state senate, the congressional delegation and Donald Trump increased his margin in florida so theyre looking for the next election down the road where they dont have Donald Trump to top the ticket, whats that going to mean for turnout and how can they make it more difficult for democrats and people who are opposed to what they have been doing in tallahassee to vote. Is there anything you or constituents or fellow lawmakers who share your opinion there, is there anything you can do or do you need the federal government to step in, and can that do anything . Sure. You know, i venture to guess there are going to be a number of lawsuits filed, as there should be, as soon as this is signed into law and were going to have to keep an eye on it. Were going to need every single voter to pay attention and show up and request their ballots as they did in the past, and undo these this provision after the next election. But we need the opportunity to elect people if and theyre making it more difficult to do so. That unfortunately is the most we can do at this point because it only needs the Governors Signature. Think about how this bill was passed. This was passed during our legislative session that ended yesterday with no public access to the capital. The capitol has been entirely closed to the public. Actually, i think its almost an insult but the capitol reopens to the public starting monday so the public had no opportunity to come tallahassee, talk about this bill, Rally And Protest and everything else, and so they were able to ram it through. The latest version of this bill dropped at 1 30 in the morning the day before it was to be taken up and approved by the house. Thats a very sobering thing that you share.
