Bombshell news came out this week pointing to accountability, potentially even criminal accountability for the way that the former president S White House operated. This week federal agents conducted a raid of trumps personal attorney, Rudy Giulianis apartment, confiscating several electronic devices. All of this surrounds giulianis shady dealings with ukrainian officials, dealings that giuliani said he did on behalf of the former president. Nbc news learned the raid focuses on one key avenue in the investigation, giulianis successful efforts to have americas former ambassador to the ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch removed. Its the same law that got the disgraced and pardoned Trump National security adviser, michael flynn, in trouble. Much like the disgraced former general, the disgraced former mayor also received a warning that he might be the target of a foreign influence operation. In 2019 when giuliani was doing his ukrainian dirt dealings, giuliani was briefed that he was being targeted by a russian intelligence influence operation as part of moscows effort to discredit biden and elect trump. Giulianis personal attorney tells nbc news no such briefing existed and that the raid was legal thuggery and that he spoke to Allen Dershowitz about what he claims are constitutional issues. Whats at the heart of this particular investigation is whether he essentially successfully orchestrated the removal of a very distinguished ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch, in return for potentially money as well as dirt on the bidens from Corrupt Ukrainian officials. Rudy giuliani likes to claim he was noodling around on his own and when pressed he said he was there at the behest of donald trump. The question you asked in october of 2020, you said why does Rudy Giuliani have access to the highest levels of government to peddle this information repeatedly. He got disinformation, he spread it around, ron johnson spread it around, and apparently they were warned by the fbi they are being targeted by this. Thats right. I think there are two reasons why this is important. First of all, the fbi warned Rudy Giuliani that the information that he was peddling from very suspect individuals such as a russian agent and others, was to get him to stop and then to observe how he behaved after being warned. Did he continue to peddle the information even knowing it was false. If so, was he doing it again at the behest of foreign principals . So this is part of a piece where Rudy Giuliani may not be acting in the best interest of donald trump or the American People, but instead on the in the best interest of his foreign principles. Ukrainians and maybe even Ukraine Russian interests. Whats your sense given all you have studied about this, when you start pulling on this thread, where does it lead . Unfortunately, Rudy Giuliani was at the center of what i said during the Impeachment Hearings was almost a Shadow Government where he was the president s lawyer but directing a lot of policy including in ukraine and other places at the behest of foreign entities and foreign clients and so forth. And not only that, but hes also at the center of a lot of other issues related to donald trump. Remember, there are ongoing investigations of donald trump in new york related to tax fraud, there are investigations of him related to Money Laundering and deutsche bank, and we have to be concerned about the Counterintelligence Implications of Rudy Giuliani. What did he receive from the russians . What did he tell them . What do they know about him that we dont know or what did he say that might not be true about what they told him . So, this is all a very complicated web. And we have to get to the bottom of what happened. Congressman, you are from india. Florida is the latest state on a growing list to pass new measures aimed at restricting voting rights. Measures that appear targeted towards minority and under served communities. It places restrictions on voting by mail and gives new powers to the governor. That bill comes amid the ongoing republican led effort in arizona to overturn the results of the 2020 president ial election there. The state senate has confiscated ballots and Voting Equipment from maricopa county, which joe biden won, and turned them over to cyberninjas to look at. That company, and it, not the government set the rules of the recount. Rules it hid from the American Public until a court ruling this week forced more transparency. Among the revelations from the release of the cyberninja documents, an intense fear of an attack and breach by antifa and the use of uv light to look for fraud. You got some of those in arizona. Thats fine. I think we generally agree elections should be conducted by government is, and counts should be conducted by governments. When it comes to action items from the American Families plan, 64 are in favor. With that kind of popular support, you would think these plans would have a glide path in congress. But republicans may be so afraid of giving biden a win theyll block these wildly popular measures even if it means their own constituents lose. So far republicans oppose both measures. You know, we saw not a single republican vote for the American Rescue plan despite its popularity to the tune of 80 at the time that we passed it in early march. So what i turn to are democracy reforms. Making sure that we get people elected to congress who are going to be responsive to the electorate. It wasnt always the case that republicans were unwilling to engage in goodfaith assembly for the goal of obstructing the progress proposed by a democratic president . But that means we got to enfranchise more people in this country, end Partisan Gerrymandering so if republicans dont vote in the way their constituents would like them to vote, they lose at the ballot box. Im not of the mind we should be delaying progress to get one or two republican cosponsors when its clear their objective for the most part is to obstruct the progress President Biden would like to see. Mitch mcconnell made a statement about joe biden. He might as well have been talking about you and your progressive colleagues. The president talked about togetherness while reading off a multi trillion dollar Shopping List that was neither designed nor intended to earn bipartisan buyin. A blueprint for giving washington even more money and even more power to micro manage American Families and build the countrys liberal elites want instead of what future americans want. Its a remarkable characterization, representative jones. The idea that joe biden embraces a philosophy that flies in the face of 40 years or 50 years of antigovernment talk. The idea that there is a role for government right now, and if there is ever a role for government, no matter how much of a libertarian or small government person you are, this is the role for government. Infrastructure is something government can lead on. Relief acts are things governments can lead on. The changes to legislation that allows people to work and allows child care and universal health care and tuition are things government can lead on. Absolutely. We know the federal government is the only government in this country that has the wherewithal to do this to scale. We have to make sure that we repair our roads and our bridges. We have to create millions of new jobs in this country. Jobs of the future and that means green jobs. We have to invest in our work force. We have to address the issue of Child Care Deserts and just the general unaffordability of child care for millions of americans. Thats what senator warren and i are doing now with our introduction of the universal child care and Early Learning act. It represents a 700 billion investment in child care and Early Learning. Significantly more than what the president has proposed. My goodness, what a wonderful start it is for this president to have said, you know what . We want to do 225 billion for child care alone. There are so many families, including in my district, who are paying huge sums for that purpose. In westchester county, 21,000 a year on average for child care. Thats not something that is affordable for many people. We know that child care as senator warren said during the Dnc Convention is indeed infrastructure. How can you work effectively without knowing or having the opportunity to have your kids taken care of. This is personal for me. My grandmother took me to work with her when i was younger because child care was so expensive. No kid should have to go through that in the richest nation in the history of the world. Its why im so pleased to see a foundation, a baseline that all americans can rally around and that progressives are excited about even as we continue to push for things like a 15 minimum wage, lowering of the medicare eligibility age and expansion of that, which he did talk about in his State Of The Union speech. And republicans generally think these issues could help them win the white house and the senate in 2022. I would like to start by saying i applaud tim scott for taking the opportunity to get out there, but i think he missed a real opportunity to talk about a vision. The other night we heard joe biden talk about a vision. A big, bold vision. And though conservatives and republicans like myself can have Policy Disagreements with them on what that vision is for america, a bigger government, doing things a certain way taxwise and going into infrastructure, thats healthy. Thats american to debate that. What senator tim scott did was not really take the time to talk about big things that i agree with him on. For example, school choice, opportunity zones, those are things hes known for in the senate and moderates like myself love him for that. He touched on them but he missed an opportunity to lay out a vision. I heard more alarmism and fear about the left, talking about who is woke enough. It was not enough for me and i think he missed an opportunity the other night. I was very disappointed. There were moments where he did talk about his own personal experiences as a black man in south carolina. The fact hes been pulled over for no particular reason. But i think youre right. I think this is a larger issue that republicans and conservatives in this country are missing an opportunity to have conversations on the merits. When joe biden proposed a 15 minimum wage, tim cotton and mitt romney proposed a 10 minimum wage, which may get us to a 12 minimum wage. The same thing could happen for health care and in the role of government. Why do you think republicans are moving towards wedge cultural issues as they are. When you get an opportunity that big to introduce yourself to the world, why not take it. It was good to hear about how he persevered through some really tough circumstances in his life. But i see problems across the spectrum. I see some people on the left saying lets cancel everything. People on the right saying theres no racism anywhere. I got to where i was on my own. Thats wrong. We need to come to an agreement about what is wrong in the country. I am with joe biden and senator tim scott when they say america as a whole is not racist. We as a concept are not racist. But there are things here in the country today that have come to the surface and when we saw the civil unrest in the streets start last year and flood into this street, we see people are hurting and in pain. I was just telling a friend like an oncologist who gets cancer or a dermatologist who battles skin disease i became the story ive been reporting when i lost my father in his 80s to covid. Though being of relative privilege in this country i was able to provide for him health care, get him a hospital bed and the best medical treatment, just to get him to hospital was a nightmare, to find a private ambulance, not the hospitals, but because the hospital was overstretched and busy but the ambulance that came was a ricchetti old car. It did not have the mask needed to administer the oxygen properly. When we went to cremate him, like so many other families ive been reporting on and youll seeing the images of the cremations you are playing on your screen, there was no space at the cremation ground. We had to seek the help of police to cremate him. I wish i could tell you it is only my story, but the truth is that my story despite the personal loss is a lot luckier than what hundreds of thousands of indian are going through while feeling that the state has abandoned them, that they are left to fend for themselves. I meet them dying on the street, at Hospital Doors that are shutting their gates. We have had in the capital minutes ago eight people die in an icu because the oxygen ran out. We have repeated deaths, casualties because theres a shortage of oxygen. As one doctor told me, thats not dying from covid, thats murder. To make matters worse, people are being made to sign consent forms before they get a bed, if theyre lucky enough to get a bed, to basically waive off any liability for the hospital if it does not have oxygen or ventilator. This is not the fault of our heroic frontline workers, theyve been pushed to a limit but betrayed by a government and policy that dropped the ball on preparing for the second wave. We are seeing today what was meant to be a big Vaccine Rollout for indians, there are not enough vaccines to go around. This is a humanitarian catastrophe and i urge the world to pay more attention to it. Im so sorry for the loss of your father.
