troops ready for anything. sop critics call it a cya move by the feds after the botched response to january 6th. but who wants to be the person that lets anyone do anything like that on their watch? let's listen to the sound. >> what we should have here as long as they are needed and the silliness of this butting a day. a treat appears to be connected to a conspiracy theory that donald trump will once again rise to power and be inaugurated today. their so called "real inauguration day" on march 4th. first of all, he's not, but wait until you hear why they think he will. the big lie that the election was stolen, massive fraud that he won in a landslide, none of that is true. but the big lie is still to this day being pushed even by the man that the rioters wanted to hunt down and kill. you remember mike pence who was rushed from the senate chamber by secret service agents? the mike pence forced to hide as rioters came within 100 feet of finding him. the same that wrote an op-ed that says after a an election marked by voting irregularities, and officials setting aside state election law, i share the concern with millions about the integrity of the 2020 election. but he uses a touch of the big lie to do it. so what happens now? law enforcement continues to issue alerts and where ever else going into fortress mode? and we live this cycle again and again? is this the new normal? joining me now is leann caldwell and ben collins. and former republican congressman denver wriggleman of virginia. everybody, welcome. so i want to start with you you have done so much reporting on this. first up why march 4th, and are you seeing the same chatter online leading up to today as you saw leading up to january 6th? >> so we have to take a step back on march 4th to say why that is the day. so on the days before on the 5th in january, they say this is the day our prophesy comes true. donald trump is going to round up all of the democrats. they had an event, a big day, pushed by the president himself, and it was all deading up to that day. they still want to live in a reality where donald trump becomes president. they found march 4th because sovereign citizens, a 50 year old conspiracy theory about not paying your taxes, they say there has not been a legitimate government since the 1800s, and when ulysses s. grant in 1969. they think this could be a way out of it to make it so trump could be president again. they chose this date. but there are no events, there are no protests. it's not the same thing as before the 6th. the president was pushing this stuff. he was like a central organizing node. so now there is not a big event or protest, people say this is a false flag ginned up by the media and it's not real. that's what you're hearing today is more excuses for why they're guy is not president any more. >> let me ask you this. leading up to january 6th there was so much talk about what was actually going to happen on january 6th. what people were intending to do. are you seeing that same focus? that same laying out of what they want to do today as they did a couple months ago? >> yeah, it's not the same thing. one of the biggest messages was confirm trump or get lynched. they took pictures of the ammo they have that said they were patriots. for the 4th it is very different. they're very aafraid, they're not planning in public any more. a lot of people believed they were kicking off the lev rugs. that is obviously not the case, they were trying to decode what the president was saying. when it comes to planning, it's all on encrypted apps, and sometimes there is still some things on parler as well where people really go for it, but they don't last that long, they don't want to be associated with it. they don't want to run amuck or get a visit by the feds. >> how real is today's threat for law enforcement and the committee. or is this junction a moment where they don't want to take any chances at all? >> that's a good question. our sources are convinced that this is night and day compared to january 6th. interms of the chatter and the intell. the fbi officer on january 5th right before the attack on the capital had what they thought was routine chatter. they say people are talking about gathering ammunition, bringing ward to the capitol, and they sent it out like a routine e-mail. it could have been pretty relevant information if they saw it as important. so the march 4th day that is quite porm to the conspiracy theorists has been the subject of chatter. and no one will want to be holes up in concentrate to answer why they did not want to. the capitol was being breached, people were flowing into the doors, and they were talking about whether or not this was organized, appropriate, and optically the best mill tafr advice. no one wants to go through that again answers to questions that were quite painful yesterday. >> leann, you have been reporting that the capitol police asked the national guard to stay on for two more months. you also reported that it is pretty quiet there. is it a permanent fortress or is there talk of lifting the restrictions? >> yeah, these are ongoing and there is no resolution yet. it is extremely quiet. speaker pelosi indicated that she did not cancel session completely because of the because of the security. but it really has disrupted the operations of this. there are multiple investigations going on. there is frustration among law breakers. they are still receiving them on what the security threats are. would they want want plan to be in the future. that's the house side that is relatively empty here. on the senate side they took a different approach for the day. they but the that that this is still a constant source of conversation, hearings, and investigations on capitol hill and there is still a military fortress, a massive perimeter of the capitol pill. it is just snag is something that it is going around. and they want to know what the plan is to get people under control, katy. >> let's talk about why things are like this. they are pointing the finger of why it is there, but in the last two months since the insurrection we continue to have prominent republicans push that it was outside agitators. and we have prominent republicans including the backbone. cpac pushing the big lie. so when does -- what, what is going on with the respect party? is there a return to normal or are they just all about this big experience? because they this think it is benefitting them? >> i think they are flagging big lies in the narrative for the 2022 narratives. we could have a real issue, right? and i was listening to ben a little earlier. an incredible run down of where march 4th was important. i think crazy gets stuck in their own rabbit holes but you're seeing the fund raising and i will be really blunt, the fund raising is so good don't see that language going away at all. when you look at some people running in michigan or texas they're still pouting a big lie narrative. when you listen to ron johnson, that's idiotic. i just don't see how you can look at the data and say this is a false flag operation. we released a report on this and we know there was seven white nationalist groups involved. and there is people right now. and they know that trinls are going to continue to push this. this is well beyond president trump now and this is the fact that we as a government are not to be trusted and now the new rehash of the new world order coming out and i'm not as optimistic as other people that this is going away any time soon. >> you're saying that lawmakers know how good the fund raising is, and they're continuing to do it. that they're tearing everything down just for the dollars, and that they admit it. >> this is an answer, right? when you talk about getting reelected, you're talking about short-term memories of voters. looking at the fact that you're going to win the next time, but president trump's policy was working. the election was stolen, we need to get that back in 2024 and they're going to run on election integrity, are you supportive of him now, and those are the biggest questions that you will have them asking candidates. >> the question is how many people will continue to believe it and if they do, what else will they try to do about it? congressman, thank you for joining us and for being so blunt. thank you all for your exquisite reporting. still ahead dr. fauci says it is not time to take the foot off of the accelerator. but other states are already following their lead. >> and how ron johnson plans to fix it. >> what the new dhs secretary is going to do about. we have jay cobb and his exclusive interview, next. his exclusive interview, next. i'm g. i do motivational speaking in addition to the substitute teaching. i honestly feel that that's my calling-- to give back to younger people. i think most adults will start realizing that they don't recall things as quickly as they used to or they don't remember things as vividly as they once did. i've been taking prevagen for about three years now. people say to me periodically, "man, you've got a memory like an elephant." it's really, really helped me tremendously. prevagen. healthier brain. better life. verizon believes everyone deserves the best. that's why we start with 5g from america's most reliable network. verizon 5g is next level. then give families plans to mix and match. so you only pay for what you need, with 5g included at no extra cost. you get so much more than just a great network. and offer the best in entertainment on select unlimited plans like disney+, hulu and espn+. with a galaxy s21+ 5g when you buy one. there's no reason to settle for less than the best. only from verizon. ♪ ♪ - [narrator] if you're thinking about going to school online, southern new hampshire university is where you belong. we've been online for more than 25 years and have helped thousands of students reach their goals. as a nonprofit university, we believe access to high quality education should be available to everyone. that's why we offer some of the lowest tuition rates in the nation, and haven't raised tuition in nearly a decade. so no matter where you want to go, snhu can help you get there. visit snhu.edu today. we're still working to get our arms around that, katy. there is a tremendous amount, but we still don't really know, the model showed that the variants will continue to increase hear in the united states, and we have seen the percentage of the uk variant go from 1% or 2% to at least 10% of the total amounts that we're detecting now. i think it will be increasingly important that we double down on testing. rightfully so the country has been heavily focused on vaccination, but i think it will become increasingly important coming forward. we're approaching a opponent where we will have enough vaccine to vaccinate everyone that wants one. but if we get to a situation where we don't have enough peek vaccinated to get to herd immunity, and the testing could be very important as we work to open workplaces and venues. i think we will have a better handle on that soon, but not enough yet. >> the governor of alabama says she will lift her max mandate on april 8th, five weeks from now. is it enough to figure out if we'recreaing or plateauing? is it safe to say we can do it in april? >> i think it is safer than today, but we need to let the science guide the decision we make. it's good to set goalposts for reassessment, but it is hart to say that five weeks from now we're going to lower masks. we're at a key inflection point this week and we're going to see if case counts keep coming down or if they go up. that's why i think we should let the science and the data guide the decisions we make instead of a foregone conclusion. >> dr. mario ramiez, thank you for joining us. check out the nbc universal's planyourvaccine.com initiative. go to the website or scan that qr code to go directly to the website. it offers a personalized state by state guide for all things related to the vaccine. >> coming up, you thought your family was dysfunctional, wait until you see this in prince harry say it's is no coincidence that his own family is trying to defame his wife at this moment. >> but first, what is the latest on what is in and not in the covid relief bill. d not in the covid relief bill. ne wolves of the great highway. all they need is a bike and a full tank of gas. their only friend? >> we're still in the process of having good conversations with the leadership and elements of the american rescue plan that we believe will give many americans relief, we see it as a lifeline that got the brunt of this moment of these two big crisis that are happening. the president wants to be helpful to families and he put in 15 week paid leave, medical leave for families right now who are truly suffering. one of the things that you're seeing is you're seeing women in the workforce that have left the workforce. and so for him he understands the pain that families are feeling right now and he wants to make sure that they have relief when they're dealing in this economic strife. we want to make sure people get their $1400 check. we opt a vaccination flam is paid for. we want a child tax credit here so we can cut the poverty rate of children in half. we want to open up schools safely. there is a lot here that we're still working through and that we want to make sure happens. one of the things that the president was very clear about is that 1400 check to make americans whole, we'll keep that, it is not gooding at all. so we had movement. the house that saw making it big and meeting the moment that was critical. and now we have to make sure that we get relief and give the lifeline to the american people right away. >> so you say you're having conversations about it, what are the conversations looking like and when you talk about it are you looking at a plan that might already be out there in congress? there is a few of them. a republican plan that would bar row from security. there is a bipartisan plan with a family tax credit, and also an offer by senator gillibrand and others that do it through a tax. when you look at what to do for this, because if there is bipartisan support for paid family leave, whose plan are you looking at? >>. >> we're having conversations. we know there is a chance to get it done quickly. we see more about this 11 million american that's are going to start losing their unemployment insurance benefits. so we're having those conversations, i can't say here and now who we will work with or plan as we come closer to this american rescue plan on the senate side, but here is the thing we have to get moving quickly. this is a message that the president is trying to send every day for the last few weeks is that we have to work really swiftly on. and you talked about bipartisan support, and that's the message that we're trying to make clear to congress and to republicans in the senate as well. this is something that has republican support as well as democratic support. >> let me ask you because when we're talking about going forward, unless you plan on getting something like this passed through reconciliation, you're finding no republicans signing on yet. are you cognizant of the fact that maybe you have to find a way to get republicans on board? the reason i brought up those three separate bills is that if you just go with the democratic one, it doesn't seem like that will get the ten votes from the republican party that are needed to pass that bill. so when you say you're talking to everybody are you talking to republicans specifically? the people that you would need to get that done? >> we have been pretty clear about that, katy. the first meeting that the president had here was with ten republican senators. so we're having the conversations, the president is, the white house officials, senior staff members are. so that is indeed happening. this is a process, right? we're going flaw process, having the conversations, listening to folks, but we're also really very crystal clear that the american rescue plan needs to move forward. we need to meet the big moment that we're in. we have to give the american workers a lifeline. we have to give american people a lifeline. i mentioned nearly 11 million people are about to start losing their benefit in two weeks. more than a million of the same people cannot put food on their table, katy to feed their children. we're going to continue fighting for a bill, katy that is incredibly popular. it has bipartisan support. the lost polling had 77% of support from the american people. so we have to meet the people where they are as well and not just in the american relief, but in supporting this piece of legislation. >> the democrats look legislation. >> the democrats look like they will pass it. i want to look at more policy that is coming down the pipeline. when you have some specifics on that, please come back to us. it is an issue that so many people care very deeply about. calling your in-laws the firm. that's not a good sign. more from meghan markle and the split with the royal family. this is a talker. hi, i'm debra. i'm from colorado. i've been married to my high school sweetheart for 35 years. i'm a mother of four-- always busy. i was starting to feel a little foggy. just didn't feel like things were as sharp as i knew they once were. i heard about prevagen and then i started taking it about two years now. started noticing things a little sharper, a little clearer. i feel like it's kept me on my game. i'm able to remember things. i'd say give it a try. prevagen. healthier brain. better life. you wanna win out there today?
