I think were going to have a significant degree of normality beyond the terrible burden that all of us have been through over the last year. As we get into the fall and the winter by the end of the year, i agree with the president completely that we will be approaching a degree of normality. But getting a Recall Election could be easier than actually recalling him. Governor newsom won in 2018 by a landslide with 62 of the vote. Lately hes come under fire for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Holding a recall will require verified 180 signatures. They said theyve received 85 of that well ahead of the deadline. California only had one governor recall vote. They got rid of governor and replaced him with arnold schwarzenegger. Tell us how this would work if the signatures are verified. Reporter thats the key thing were looking at right now, the verification of the signature. The Secretary Of State has received a little over a million signatures. They have validated about 668,000, so there is a little bit of a ways to go there for the adopters of the recall campaign. Then in late fall, there will be two questions. There were 130 candidates on the ballot, including arnold schwarzenegger, and its really the person who has the most votes in that second question who wins. Achievement was my birthright because i knew what others had achieved. So you can imagine when she jumped in for her little girl. Her daughter was five at the time. Miss rogers learned that avas class was not teaching black history. So the lesson began at home with avas favorite game dressup. Since 2015, the mother and daughter duo have highlighted a historic black woman for every day in february. Posts include Photo Recreations and information on that womans accomplishments. I just knew ava would embrace it in this way. She had a creative imagination and she would make her own outfits and tell me what it was, so about, it would help her receive and return the information. Did you ever try to work through avas school to encourage them to teach black history . Was there any kmouncation about that . I didnt. At the time she was in prekindergarten. So i wasnt especially upset with the school. I just saw it as an opportunity for me to do it myself. As her parent, i am her first teacher. So i knew i needed to fill in the gap. In retro sfekt, it would have been a good idea to try to introduce a black history curriculum. At the time it didnt occur to me to get the school involved, ava, what was it like beginning to do some of these dresup photo projects . Did you understand early on when what they were about or was it more kind of just for fun for you . I think that it was a time of learning and having fun. Were there any projects that you like the most or are there any that really stick with you as strong memories . Well, my mother is one that i really, really, really like to keep with me, and i like the picture of tina turner. I think that picture was very great. You did tina turner . Yes. We portrayed tina turner in 2019. I am just this is the sweetest thing. I am prone to cavities. I cant have this conversation. Its too sweet. Tell me about some of the changes that you noticed, miss rogers, in your daughter. Did you begin to see kind of the importance of this click for her over time . Yes. Ava sees herself in the people she portrays. When we started early on she noticed that at the time she was 5, so she watched Doc Mcstuffins and heard Michelle Obamas voice and remembers thats the first lady at the time she was of the united states. I portrayed her. And she will see an Art Assignment from her teacher last year in 4th grade portraying the style of faith rin gold and she was excited, reminded me she portrayed her in 2016. So shell see women in different places or shell read a magazine or come across something and shell remember that thats someone she learned about and then she can base her career goals. I see you have a picture of Mariah Russell rns and she a chef. Thats one of avas career goals. So she really sees herself in the women that we celebrate. I was going to ask you about this, if doing this has helped you think about what he want to do or be when you grow up. Yes. Very much so. And a lot of these women i see and im, like, wow, i think that i want to do this. Yes. So, its very fun and i like to see what i can do with the women. Before i let yall go, miss rogers, for other parents when may be looking at your project, whether or not they are people of color and thinking i want to do Something Like that with may kid, what advice would you give them in terms of maybe how to go about it . I would say think of what you want your child to learn. Think of different areas where you want them to see representation and choose someone you can celebrate. I try to come up with different categories. Academia, military, medicine, entertainment, and then i just find people who have excelled in those areas. So i would just tell them to look up black firsts, look up black accomplishments and find someone. When you find that person, if you want to dress up as that person, just choose a picture and emulate it and just remember, if you are not brown, dont color yourself to be that way.
