Mums receive extra rations for their children at the blue shed, Coldean, 1952 IN THE Fifties, Brighton mothers flocked to the “blue shed” in Beatty Avenue, opposite Coldean School, where baby products, were given out. This evocative Argus archive picture was taken in 1952, a time when rationing was still in force and times were hard. Pregnant women and new mothers received additional items to supplement their rations, including dried milk and orange juice. This site was where the old doctor’s surgery used to be.
