AND I'M DAN GREEN. WE BEGIN TONIGHT... WITH THE SECOND LARGEST INDUSTRY HERE ON THE CENTRAL COAST BRACING FOR MORE JOB LOSSES.. AS MONTEREY COUNTY IS JUST DAYS AWAY FROM ANOTHER LOCKDOWN.. ONE SECTOR EXPECTED TO BE HIT HARD.. THE HOTEL INDUSTRY.. WITH MORE ON THE IMPACTS OF A LOCKDOWN WE GO TO ACTION NEWS 8 REPORTE FELIX CORTEZ LIVE IN SALINAS..### DAN.. THE HOTEL INDUSTRY STILL HASN'T FULLY RECOVERED FROM THE LAST LOCKDOWN. AND COME SUNDAY NIGHT.. HOTELS WILL AGAIN BE LIMITED TO ESSENTIAL TRAVELERS ONLY.. this san jose couple left one county that's already in lockdown.. for a quick getaway to monterey county before it goes into lockdown sunday night at 10.. (GIRL 20:03 we're only here for one night :06 we're just going to enjoy being on the beach it's a really quiet beach there's not a lot of people here at all so we're just have a couple of fun days and go back to san jose and stay home :17/ a lockdown means just that.. stay at home and limit your travel to essential business only.. for hotels and motels that means accepting essential travelers only.. and for an industry already suffering from the pandemic.. it means another economic downturn and more job losses. (7:00 Uh, we have twenty seven thousand, um, associates in hospitality in Monterey County. Abou half of them are not working, you know, all the hotels. So that number is going to rise :14) travelers on notice from the monterey county convention and visitors bureua that hotels open to essential travelers only.. hotels on notice not to break the rules.. (6:08 the phrase that is overused is we're all in this together, but we are, you know, so if there is one particular operator that is not playing by the rules, uh, it's like somebody doing a party with fiv hundred, you know, guests in there and says, well, we don't care. Well, you should care because it's going to cost you lives and we need to get out of this. :25) but hospitality is monterey county's second largest industry.. and it'll be visitors like this san jose couple who will keep it alive.. (10:24 this industry is extraordinarily resilient. It doesn't feel like it at times. And right now there is despair. People are going bankrupt. They're losing their lif savings. But this industry will come back. We as human beings were born to travel. :39) MANY IF NOT ALL HOTELS AN MOTELS HAVE ALERTS ON THEIR WEBSITES THAT THEY'RE OPEN TO ESSSENTIAL TRAVELERS ONLY..
