New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (May 26) approved the `Model Tenancy Act` in a bid to help overhaul the legal framework with respect to rental housing across the country. The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The decision has been circulated to all states and Union Territories for adoption. They will have to enact fresh legislation or amending existing rental laws suitably. "It (the model act) will help overhaul the legal framework with respect to rental housing across the country, which would help spur its overall growth," an official statement said.
