Charlie Baker on Wednesday.Just hours after Baker celebrated the anticipated arrival of more than 100,000 doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the state next week, The New York Times reported that workers at Emergent BioSolutions' Baltimore plant accidentally conflated vaccine ingredients several weeks ago, spoiling about 15 million doses of the J&J COVID-19 vaccine in the process.The mixup, which federal officials chalked up to human error, forced regulators to delay authorization of Emergent's production lines and halted future shipments of Johnson & Johnson doses in the U.S.In a statement shared with NewsCenter 5, the Massachusetts COVID-19 Command Center said the news of the millions of spoiled vaccines does not impact current appointments or allocations in the state."We remain prepared to work collaboratively with the federal government to avoid any disruption in vaccine shipments," reads the Command Center's statement.The Federal Emergency Management Agency will help deliver 7,000 vaccines per day to the mass COVID-19 vaccination site at Boston's Hynes Convention Center by next week. FEMA will administer Pfizer vaccines for six weeks, followed by two weeks of administered Johnson & Johnson vaccines. It still remains unclear if the massive mistake at the Emergent plant will put the final two weeks of that plan into question.Despite the mixup in Baltimore, the Biden administration believes it can still reach its goal of shipping a total of 10 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine across the country next week.
