Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association selects Chippewa County for new center Kevin and last updated 2021-01-28 11:12:58-05 STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. â The Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association (MAMA) announced on Thursday the selection of Chippewa County in the stateâs Upper Peninsula as the site of its new command and control center. Chippewa was among four communities across the state considered for the command and control center, according to a news release. Site selection was based on several factors, including community support, constructability, existing communication infrastructure and established workforce and aerospace industry. Chippewa was chosen as the third and final site in the Michigan Launch Initiative, a public-private partnership expected to bring about 40,000 new jobs and help solidify the stateâs place as a premier commercial aerospace destination.
