A man who wanted to walk the length of New Zealand for charity was hit by a vehicle just hours after police warned him to be careful.
The man, who had set off from Bluff with the aim of walking to Cape Reinga, was told by officers on Saturday afternoon not to walk along the main state highways because he “risks being run over”, Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said.
“Unfortunately a few hours later he was hit by a green saloon in Mosgiel, which continued on.”
