Putnam County Sheriff's deputies searching for a missing man who may have been kayaking earlier this week located the body of Joseph Thomas, 57, on May 2, 2024, in the Pocatalico River. A missing person report was filed, on April 30, 2024, for a man last seen in the area of the Country Roads Mobile Home Park, 230 Country Road in Poca. When deputies and volunteers from the Poca Volunteer Fire Department expanded their search they located the body downstream from the park.
