The Oroville CHP Office said through investigation, they determined the driver of the Jeep Cherokee was involved in a speed contest with a Chevrolet Camaro just moments before the crash.
Officers say the Chevrolet Camaro was driven by 19-year-old Carlos Hill Jr., of Oroville. CHP Officers later located Hill and detained him for his involvement in the speed contest and collision. Hill was arrested and booked at the Butte County Jail for 10 felony violations, including three charges of vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, and illegal speed contest, CHP said.
Three of the four occupants in the Jeep Cherokee were pronounced dead at the scene, one of which was a 2-year-old girl, according to the Oroville CHP. The driver of the Jeep was identified by the CHP as 30-year-old Anthony Gaston, of Oroville. The passenger in the Jeep was identified as 18-year-old Andrew Lockner of Oroville.
