MANILA-A total of 240 aftershocks have been recorded as of 4 p.m. Monday due to the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that jolted Occidental Mindoro earlier. Aftershocks had a magnitude ranging from 1.5 to 4.8. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the magnitude 6.4 tectonic quake struck 110 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Lubang at 5:05 a.m. Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr. told the Philippine News Agency that the earthquake was generated by the movement along the Manila Trench. "A large magnitude or a major earthquake from the Manila Trench is one of the earthquake scenarios that (people) need to prepare for in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces as it can cause strong shaking and tsunami," Solidum said. The magnitude 6.4 earthquake was 28 kilometers deep, and caused intensity IV to be felt in Occidental Mindoro; and intensity III in Nasugbu, Batangas; Tagaytay City, Amadeo, Maragondon, Mendez, and Alfonso in Cavite; Quezon City; Taguig City; Mandaluyong City; Makati City; Navotas City; Pasig City; and Plaridel, Bulacan.
